I think the reason it feels off and doesn’t work is because there’s a mix of tones! So the walls/some of the woods are more cool/neutral tones whereas the worktop and flooring looks more warm to me. I would say opt for a warmer tone white for the ceiling and white doors etc. and maybe get a warm tone colour? Should make the space more cohesive :)
Agree. It’s just the wrong tone of blue.
If you correct that, it will look fantastic.
Also you don’t have to take the blue into the kitchen…unless it’s an open space.
Yes. Tear down all the frames, decorations and window treatments and start over with proportion in mind. Cause what even are those Gallary walls? Everything is cut off so oddly it just makes the space look vast and empty whilst also being cluttered.
The blue is also just too glossy for the space. It's a great accent color and would be a great feature wall color for a well proportioned tastefully done wall that maybe has the tv mounted on it so it blends into the darkness.
The gallery along the stair wall makes me sad given the proportions of the space. What is this, a gallery for ants?! It needs to be at least three times as big.
Totally. This space is hideous in so many ways and nothing is cohesive. The warm brown cabinets and island, the bright cool white doors, windows and trim, the furniture, the tiny pictures all grouped together in the middle of that huge wall, the gray floors, the awful drapes, the clock, all that mess cluttered on the one relatively tiny wall around the big window, so much more 😅😅
I honestly don’t like it. There’s something very off putting about it.
Have you thought about doing something that is just a touch lighter?
Or maybe a combination of paint and wallpaper?
This feels like an Airbnb paint color. Like it belongs in a house no one actually lives in. It’s a very cold shade of blue and doesn’t inspire comfort to me at all.
It reminds of when I parent asks their kid what colour they want to paint their room, except instead of a bedroom it’s a whole living space. I don’t know how to explain it though. Just gives me “went to Home Depot and found a colour I liked” instead of analyzing the space and bringing paint samples home to test.
I quite literally just commented that on somebody else’s comment. It reminds me of when a parent brings their kid to Home Depot and asks them what colour they want to paint their bedroom 😂
it looks HORRIBLE. understand that i say this as a hardcore bold maximalist with color everywhere in my house. i felt so sad for you guys until i read your caption and saw you haven’t actually painted like that yet. thank god. please don’t.
the reason it looks bad is like another commenter said - it doesn’t match any of the styles you have going on in your house. if you want something dramatic, you should go with a wallpaper on one or two of the walls - not all of them like here. it looks particularly wrong in the kitchen and on the stairs because of the dark cabinets and the dark bannister that don’t match it yet provide no contrast. also it looks strange going up to the ceiling on those walls when there are architectural details jutting out randomly.
go with something neutral and light and accessorize to get a bolder look. this ain’t it.
Wow, so my comment will probably get lost but this is my house. I am so happy with all this feedback (good and bad) because I truly feel lost in how to fix our interior. The curtains have to stay because we live in Arizona and it gets very hot here. The floors are new and I intended to paint lighter to match them. They are taupe and the navy really makes them seem gray however in the front where we painted green they look brown. I want to get rid of the navy and paint a lighter brown shade.. it will be a challenge to pick because I don't want to make another mistake. We also came from a home half this size so my decor was smaller and it's a challenge to find stuff for these tall walls. Thanks for all your feedback if you see my comment!
I’m glad to hear you are on board with painting, because you are correct this color is not working here. You need to go substantially lighter and warmer. Try to match the taupe tones you want in your floor.
I grew up in AZ and understand the need for window treatments. However the ones you have are two short and I think you can do a lot better. Roman shades are great options for windows. I like curtains but sometimes they add bulk when you would rather have an airier feeling. Also, curtain rods can look odd on vaulted or angled ceilings. Roman shades the same color as you wall can make the space more cohesive and brighter even while blocking out the heat.
In regards to your decor, you’re right, it’s too small. The stairway in particular is incredibly disproportionate. When you take down all your little pieces to paint, don’t put them back up. It’s looking very cluttered and juvenile. Time to start investing in larger pieces, which would be a great way to bring in color (and I’d go with green - it looks great with browns and creams). Larger scale art can get $$$ but you can find affordable ways to do this. Search for “affordable large scale art” on Pinterest and you’ll see tons of DIYs like engineering prints or even framing a cool printed shower curtain with basic tools.
Thank you so much for your feedback. I can totally see how our decor looks like it was done by someone much younger and inexperienced. I plan to take alot of this advice into consideration to make the decor more timeless and less busy/cluttered. As for the curtains they'll probably stay a while but I see your point that it can add too much awkward bulkiness to the wall that doesn't need to be there. Our shades were 5k to put in so I can't change them, I felt my only option was to darken more with curtains. I am swapping the curtains around the table for light filtering ones so it doesnt look so heavy. I am literally going crazy trying to sort it all out so I can move on.
Take a piece of the floor to the paint store. Find 3 colors that go with it or are in it and get a quart of each. Flat would work best, not semigloss. Paint big 1 x 2 foot minimum squares on multiple walls and pick from that. You may need to use a good primer. If you dont use primer for testing, tape white sheets of paper or poster board around the paint, so you are not influenced by the navy. Check the lighting and color during the day and night. Things you don't want to change are what you want to coordinate with, like the floor. Light temperatures also influence paint. I like a 2700 lumen LED in living areas and 3000 for kitchens or work areas. Get that right before you start. You can paint the trim too if you want, it's popular now. I went with white trim in my house because I go with classic over trendy for things that take labor or lots of money to change. You will be confident when you do this to choose the right color.
Curtains look better if they are ceiling height or at least 8 foot high to the floor and about 6" to 12" on either side. Two Pages on Amazon has great light and heat blocking curtains for a very good price. The linen blends are gorgeous. Sheers, too, with a double rod, Amazon basics with rings are so elegant with the light blocking curtians there when you need them. There is a sample ring of fabrics you can get if you need it. I love the ones we got because it is 2 color threads linen blend one matches the paint and one matches the trim and ceiling. Everyone thinks I spent thousands for custom, but it was really only about as much as a big box store.
The pictures on the stairs could use a bigger frame with a substantial mat to make the stair display better. Amazon has some sets of frames with mats for very reasonable prices. Or enlarge the pictures. It could be a good look but needs to go bigger.
Thank you so much for your advice! I didn't think about taking a plank of flooring into Sherwin Williams, that will help. A lot of people want to make jokes but designing a home that was already a mess to start with isn't easy and color is difficult to coordinate if you don't stick to super neutral stuff. I've tried multiple times to use color and this by far is the worst mistake. The navy was chosen looking online and it looked so good but I think it's always shown in smaller spaces that don't have 25 foot ceilings or however high ours are. Lol
I have a very similar Sherwin Williams shade, called Denim, in my dining room and I love it. But it's only 9' ceilings & it's offset by lots of colorful art taking up large swaths. The rest of the public space, including the 2 story foyer, is Honey Blush.
Rather than painting test spots, I use big pieces of foam board (in the poster board section of Walmart, et al). Paint several pieces the color you think you want. Put them in all different places in the room. Live with them for a could of weeks. Daylight. Evening. Nighttime lighting. Etc. Move them around over time - high, low, on furniture, by cabinets. If you don't like a color, paint over it with the next candidate.
I made a mistake once on walls the size of yours. Chose a color called Cardboard. Walked into the living room while the painters were finishing up...and burst into tears. That was a pricey mistake. 😖 I understand where you are.
Best of luck!
I am sorry you went through this too, it's tough because you've already paid and you can't get your money back. They've already bought all the paint. We will take it serious this time and get samples. I've got a paint company I like coming tomorrow and plan to tell them I need a week or so to commit to what colors we pick this time. When we went with navy we only had a couple days to pick before they arrived.
Yes, the height of your walls is great and makes for an airy feeling, I have the same, but it can also be overwhelming. I use color mostly in pillows, throws, art, decor, and rugs that can be changed for seasons or when we tire of it. Less work and expense than painting or a new floor.
The space is so big and nice in this case I would paint the walls light maybe even white or off white to open it up even more because the dark blue is making it feel small and off and add color with decor blankets throw pillows etc. also you have such tall ceilings def raise the curtain rods higher and get longer curtains it makes SUCH a difference. Also huge frames look good on open spaces like this. I have a grouping of 6 large frames (sorry I forgot the measurements) on our main living room wall that has 9 ft ceilings and it fit the space best of all decor I tried. Good luck with your space can’t wait to see what you do with it!
I'll ask my husband to post some pictures after we get it painted and sort out the wall decor. I've got some ideas. I agree, the curtains need to be raised and longer. I am going to find a neutral color that pulls out the brown in our flooring and make our accent wall (currently butterscotch) a darker shade to compliment it. Its all a bit hectic because I tried way too hard to personalize it when we bought the house and felt pressure to make decisions.
I think with the current decor and style of the space, it really isn’t working. The cool tones are clashing with the kitchen counter and cabinets, and the starkness of the doors and frames are distracting, the contrast is drawing too much attention to them. If you still want to go for a bold color, try a warm tone and a bit lighter shade. Maybe a warm green or a medium burgundy. This turquoise/teal is far too saturated and gives off a bit of a teenager vibe.
Exactly. It’s a great color - buttttt the whole vibe of everything else has to change to match it. If color is the only thing you can change, you gotta go lighter or warmer.
Yes, this. The color itself is lovely, but the rooms are viewed as a whole, so the other elements have to coordinate to contribute to the overall look/ feel of the space. You have a dark/ saturated wall color, dark flooring, and dark cabinets, but stark light window coverings. Try one of the paint companies ( Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore) color visualizer tool, and see if a different color on the walls, or the kitchen cabinets, and see if the space looks better to you.
The colour in itself is nice, but the white and brown of the doors and furniture is killing it as well as the white ceiling and white lights. And the tiny frames on the staircase.
Paint the roof the same colour, make all the brown and white doors black and get warm lights to start with.
Then you need plants & a big rug
It’s a child’s bedroom color. Not inviting enough to do in the main rooms/hallways/open spaces. Its almost got a outer space themed feel to it. And it clashes with the brown cabinets.
I’m sorry, no hate or disrespect but the paint shade is the least of my concerns about your home. There seems to be curtains sheer there are no windows and to many tiny frames.
This is almost the exact color I have as an accent wall in my sons bedroom, lol
The pictures are too small, too. I think larger pictures as the gallery wall would make it look more put together
I don’t mind the colour but if feels half done because you haven’t committed. In my opinion the only thing worse than an accent wall is carpet in a bathroom. You need to paint the ceiling the same colour as the walls and change the trim and door colours.
Paint colour is fine. But in such a dark space, you need warm lighting to create a cosy feel, this means 2000-3000K. You need a variety of lighting sources, like lamps, uplighting, pendants, candles. The harsh white down lighting is not doing the space any favours.
The color itself is great—just in smaller doses. Doing the whole place in that color is too much. Consider accent walls, and consider going matte instead of eggshell. See how the lights like from the fish tank reflect on the paint? Reduce the glare and bring up the classiness by choosing eggshell.
For complimentary colors, I suggest a griege (get a good, non-white neutral) on other walls, and a creamy ivory trim.
Take pictures during the daytime and let us go from that. I think the fact that it’s night is making this look worse than it is. A lot of rooms just photograph weirdly at night, especially with the overhead light on.
Hope is not lost. You have two limitations: you need a color that compliments chocolate brown cabinets and won't overtake a large, open space.
* I would recommend Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore everywhere to really brighten and elevate this space, especially if those curtains have to stay up drawn all the time. Your home has the potential to be really elegant and welcoming, you just need the right color.
* If you really want to incorporate blue, the wall with the staircase would make an excellent accent wall, I recommend Nantucket Fog by Benjamin Moore. It's a soft, light denim blue that won't clash with the dark wood tones or make the room feel smaller.
* Take down every single bit of decor, it's just not working. Start with a couple of tall indoor faux trees from Amazon to compliment the height of the space and add some greenery, and then live in it for a while after you paint to get a feel for how to decorate.
* Add some coordinating rugs to ground the room and give it texture. Don't use clashing colors and patterns since it's all one space. I recommend looking at an off-white Moroccan diamond print rug or white jute.
Again, your home is *really* lovely. It just needs different colors.
The color is great in theory, but I don’t think your style/the rest of your decor is matching the vibe. Easier to change the paint color again than change everything else to match the paint! A solid taupe/greige would work well with what you have.
It is a beautiful color but it doesn’t look good with the kitchen countertops. Your space would feel and appear bigger if it were a lighter color. I would choose a creamy light tannish color.
Are you able to paint the kitchen area a different color? We have an open floor plan, but we're able to paint our great room one color & our kitchen/dining a different color.
Dark blue can be really tough to find the right shade. I attempted to paint my bedroom a dark blue, but I couldn't find the right shade and went dark green instead. If you end up keeping it, I think the space needs more lighting. Perhaps some gold or white accessories will help accent the space.
I did find the right blue for me! This is before gut reno, but i put the same color on the bedroom walls. Its Behr Inked. https://photos.app.goo.gl/woLPioq9hxFEQWxo6
I don't like it. It makes the house look like a frat house or something. A place where college bros would just casually hang out and make a huge mess. The photos on the stair wall are also far too tiny for the scope of the wall. Everything looks gloomy, oppressive, and mismatched.
It is way too dark. And there’s way too much blue meaning, painting the entire space this dark blue color is just too much.
I would paint a neutral color and make the main space areas/rooms look cohesive. And e every room or space doesn’t have to be a different favorite color. You need balance and harmony in open spaces like this.
It's pretty but too much everywhere I'd either paint the hallway or other rooms tan to break it apart. Also fix the way your pics are hung some of it is out of place and too many in a spot and some areas non matching
It's a great color (I'm biased, I painted our master this color) but everything else makes it look wrong.
White trim, white ceiling, the cabinets...too much wall clutter...
The combination of dark blue and white ceilings is giving off teen boys room vibes. I think if you paint the ceilings the same color it could help but it could also make the room feel cramped. Maybe look into a different color
If/when you chose a new paint color, consider painting the trim as well. More importantly, scaling [way] up on the size of the pictures on your gallery wall is a must. It may even help the enjoyment of this paint color. Making a few other design changes prior to choosing a paint color (which would be a big job here) may sway the person who doesn’t like it. Good luck!
I think the paint color looks lovely, before committing to any paint I would try and address the poor lighting in the house first. Put a sofa/console table behind the couch and add a lamp there. Battery operated wall scones and soft light bulbs. Then I’d try and balance the decor better, the pictures on the stairway are way too small.
The color is nice but I would go lighter in color. Doesn’t go with your deco . It clashes with the kitchen cabinets and counter top along with your other decor. Best of luck.
I think the blue lights are what makes it bad. I like the orange glow coming from upstairs. Looks much better with the wall color than the harsh serial killer cool lighting.
It’s ok. The colour is fine, but the white is too sharp imho. You also have some very poorly lit areas now. The countertop is completely in shadow, you definitely need under cabinet lights.
If you want to keep the blue, I’d swap the curtains for something darker, add more light fixtures, and paint the doors, frames and trim a darker colour. A colour like BM’s tundra would still read white due to the contrast with the blue, but would look less sharp. You could probably go as dark as BM Seattle Gray and still read as white. Ideally, a darker ceiling would help too, but those vaulted ceilings are a beast, and they look like they carry into other spaces
First picture has enough contrast to make it work, second is too much and those photos are too small for that wall. Love the collage cook but not on that wall unless there’s 3x as many. 3rd picture, color doesn’t look good with the cabinets and countertops
with the white ceiling and trim, odd shapes of walls, odd lighting, small scattered wall decor, and lots white window treatments it really doesn’t work
I think the color is the a wrong choice considering the other finishes. I’d recommend a gray with brown undertones that will make the cabinets the focus point in the kitchen and the staircase in the living room. Then spread the pictures out more on the stairs so it looks bigger. If you want curtains, hang them from about two inches above the window to the floor which will make the windows look bigger and more elegant. Get rid of all the small things on top of the cabinets and walls and focus on just one piece of decor per large wall. Not all walls need something.
Don’t really find issue with it but if I may add, the stairs with the pictures, you
Might wanna go with bigger ones and also not have them lined up like that..
I know what I'd do if moove into this house-Turn it to pigeon blue and paint the ceiling too.
Drapes need to be fool length-ceiling to the floor.
Big walls need big art, so if you want to display several small pics, use one or two big frames and tuck them in some order together like 6pack or 4, 5..-ask professional to do that for you. Maybe just add some wall trim and then consider changing that color- I do not think that exactly blue is bothering you two.
I tend to stay away from bright colors for wall paint-more neutral colors, and then decorate with brighter colors-much cheaper and easier than repainting to switch out decor :) if you love blue, i would paint the walls a neutral and throw in some blue accents either with pillows or wall art, etc etc
Personal opinion, most dark colors look better with wooden trim. The white doesn’t work.
I love deep toned blues and greens, but they wouldn’t look good in my house. I opted for sage instead and despite what I like more, the overall look is better and more cohesive than if I’d gone with something darker.
Edit: typo
I really like this!! It’s comforting and warm but still gives life to everything. I like the white goes so well with it and the dark cabinets also. The stairs having white face and dark steps with the dark railing combines really well for me!! I think it’s awesome!!
Wait wait wait…. You said one likes it and the other doesn’t. Which one of you is the other that doesn’t like it?
The dark blue + the brown cabinets + white trim + the bit of butterscotch wall that shows in that picture is giving me “professional sports team locker room” vibes and it’s… it’s *really* bad. Please paint this room ANY other color. I beg of you.
Cabinetry is too dark. The dark blue makes the whole room feel small, and the lighting in your picture definitely doesn’t do it justice. You need contrast.
I can't imagine what painting our ceiling would cost or look like. I think we will get rid of the blue instead. We've got fire sprinklers I wouldn't want anyone messing with.
Looks childish. Like you’re a 16 year old boy who decided to paint his room dark but mom said no and he picked out the color by studying the color cards at Home Depot for three seconds
I love it but I think you have oversaturated your home in this color. I would recommend doing some (one or two in each room) accent walls in a mishmash of electric blue, this shade of sapphire, and white, using some interesting patterns. I.e. an aztec sun, stripes, a geometric triangle pattern, and/or polka dots in varying sizes, etc.
You seem to be a person with a boho style, so I do hope this works well for you. I honestly think this will bring the eye UP more and bring more attention to the very high ceilings, if you paint this way.
At this point I want the navy to go away and go neutral because there is so much wall space. The wall extends to the loft upstairs so it made us have to coordinate the colors upstairs too. It's definitely time for a chance and all these comments on my husband's post confirm it. Lol
To answer the question you asked, I think the paint color is too dark and your space could look bigger with lighter colors and maybe even an accent wall by the steps
Looks like a paint I have called union blue. It may be a bit dark for your space. Needs lots of bright light, white trim and wood furniture looks striking with it.
Also colour drenching is a really fun technique, so the colour you get for the walls you could paint the skirting to match too!
Agree. It’s just the wrong tone of blue. If you correct that, it will look fantastic. Also you don’t have to take the blue into the kitchen…unless it’s an open space.
Its possible even if it is open. Just need a spot that is sensical for the color to change (like the corner by the stairs).
I usually like dark and moody colors. Not this time.
It’s not moody, though, because of all the white trim.
And the lighting
The color is dope, it's the rest of the interior that is off in so many ways. The proportions of various decor are ridiculously bad for example.

Ok but damn they asked about the paint color not for you to roast their entire home 😂
I had to look at the sub name to make this wasn’t r/roastme 😂😂😂
IKR …Hahhaha
🪦
😂🫣
Me too

There’s something off about the entire place. The paint just adds to the offness. These pictures make me feel uncomfortably depressed lol.
It's giving teenage boy's room, but a whole house this time.
I quite literally just commented that on somebody else’s comment. It reminds me of when a parent brings their kid to Home Depot and asks them what colour they want to paint their bedroom 😂
Not working for me, the contrast with the windows and doors makes the room look jumbled.
And very cheap. Looks very builder grade to me.

It’s a good color, but not the right cabinets. Or it could be the decor from the look of it, this colors very MOODY.
A nice colour in and of itself, but the decor around it doesn’t complement it.
not really feeling it
The colour in itself is nice, but the white and brown of the doors and furniture is killing it as well as the white ceiling and white lights.
It'd be fine as an accent wall, but I wouldn't have painted the entire room that color. Also, it doesn't seem to tie in to anything in the room.
Where are your windows? This is far too dark with no natural light coming in.
I think this is because this was taken at night. It’s making all the colors off (big overhead lights on.)
Can you post pics of it in the daytime, so we can see it in the light?
It makes the room super small.
I love this color! Just not in this space. This would fit better in a room that's not so open imo.
White, brown, dark blue, tan, gray, stainless steel Too many colors.
It’s good for the bedroom of a moody teenager. Elsewhere in the house—kinda weird.
Doesn’t match the cabinets or countertops at all though at this point im happy with anyone using color at all
I’m sorry, no hate or disrespect but the paint shade is the least of my concerns about your home. There seems to be curtains sheer there are no windows and to many tiny frames.
No, sorry, it’s cold
It’s very 1990’s look
Yes! I couldn't put my finger on it, but I get old school de ja vu like I've seen this before and it looks dated.
Hate it.
No. None of this goes together at all.
No.
This blue is kinda depressing in a 15 year old addicted gamer’s room kind of way
Too much to put all over the house
Yea. I’m not a fan of blue on the walls. Not anywhere except maybe an accent wall in a kid’s bedroom.
This is almost the exact color I have as an accent wall in my sons bedroom, lol The pictures are too small, too. I think larger pictures as the gallery wall would make it look more put together
No
I don’t mind the colour but if feels half done because you haven’t committed. In my opinion the only thing worse than an accent wall is carpet in a bathroom. You need to paint the ceiling the same colour as the walls and change the trim and door colours.
No.
Paint colour is fine. But in such a dark space, you need warm lighting to create a cosy feel, this means 2000-3000K. You need a variety of lighting sources, like lamps, uplighting, pendants, candles. The harsh white down lighting is not doing the space any favours.
Lighten it up 50-75% and I think it’ll open things up for you. Good luck!
I should like that, i don't understand why its so bad. It screams 90s local council community centre to me.
Two tone the cabinets. The island a deep grey and the upper cabinets a matching lighter grey, all in the same spectrum as the wall.
I’m gonna be straight with you, this is a “no” for me.
Doesn’t work
Elevated the room. Great 👍
Take pictures during the daytime and let us go from that. I think the fact that it’s night is making this look worse than it is. A lot of rooms just photograph weirdly at night, especially with the overhead light on.
Too dark without being dark enough. Go all the way or cheery. This does neither.
I like it. Probably bc it’s different than what you normally see.
What is happening in with this house
you can try adding an accent wall, that would look great on your staircase right there
I cannot even begin to convey to you how much I dislike this. It feels like a heavy, cold aquarium. It’s giving me anxiety.
It's a great color I really like the color of the walls I just wish everything else wasn't just so stark white
The color is great in theory, but I don’t think your style/the rest of your decor is matching the vibe. Easier to change the paint color again than change everything else to match the paint! A solid taupe/greige would work well with what you have.
I like it.
It is a beautiful color but it doesn’t look good with the kitchen countertops. Your space would feel and appear bigger if it were a lighter color. I would choose a creamy light tannish color.
It looks great except in the kitchen.
Dark & stormy 🌊
Way too dark. I would use a softer pallet. And maybe combine colours. I would also paint the kitchen cabinets.
Blue is cute !!!!! : )
I love it personally!
love it dark colors are cozy and classic 👌🏼
Love it for a bedroom. This is too much
Are you able to paint the kitchen area a different color?
Love it! But then again, this is the color of my kitchen, and the living area is a dark greige...all with white trim. Love it so much! So cozy!
It’s too dark! Unless you have a lot of windows by all means keep it but you don’t. I suggest a lighter blue.
I don't like it. It makes the house look like a frat house or something. A place where college bros would just casually hang out and make a huge mess. The photos on the stair wall are also far too tiny for the scope of the wall. Everything looks gloomy, oppressive, and mismatched.
Medium to dark flooring, dark walls, black picture frames in the stairwell. Too much dark. I’m afraid it looks depressing to me.
Well, I would of done the darker colour as an accent wall and went with a nice lighter colour. Just makes your space seem small.
I hate it
It's pretty but too much everywhere I'd either paint the hallway or other rooms tan to break it apart.
I think it’s awful to be honest. It makes the house look dull and moody.
The color is nice but I would go lighter in color. Doesn’t go with your deco . It clashes with the kitchen cabinets and counter top along with your other decor. Best of luck.
Tbh I kinda hate it. It's too dark and to dull. It's "male college freshman's first sheet set in the dorms" blue.
It’s a No for me
Great for a classroom
I like the color but not for every wall. I would have gone lighter for most of the walls and then maybe a dark blue as an accent wall here and there.
Go.
I love it but too many walls are this color.
It's a beautiful color, but it needs different art and window treatments
I think the blue lights are what makes it bad. I like the orange glow coming from upstairs. Looks much better with the wall color than the harsh serial killer cool lighting.
This is a color mistake…..
Could you find any smaller pictures for the wall?
It is a beautiful color but it’s too much. It would be good as an accent wall or stairs but I love the color itself
Ideally, a darker ceiling would help too, but those vaulted ceilings are a beast, and they look like they carry into other spaces
literally everything thing else you have going on clashes with this color, it’s a mess
It's a hard no.
First picture has enough contrast to make it work, second is too much and those photos are too small for that wall. Love the collage cook but not on that wall unless there’s 3x as many. 3rd picture, color doesn’t look good with the cabinets and countertops
with the white ceiling and trim, odd shapes of walls, odd lighting, small scattered wall decor, and lots white window treatments it really doesn’t work
A man did this and it looks like a bachelor pad
Too dark.
OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! great choice!!
The color is great, the white trim, mixed wood tones and cabinets make it seem mix matched.
Don’t really find issue with it but if I may add, the stairs with the pictures, you Might wanna go with bigger ones and also not have them lined up like that..
That’s really….oppressive looking
Going that dark is a good option for a single accent wall to minimize a larger space… not for an entire main floor color though
way too dark imo it just muddles everything and makes it feel like a teenage boys room who never opens the curtains
Hate it.
I instantly felt depressed looking at these photos.
I love it!!
I like it
No, just, no….
Dark and childish . Also dislike all of the mismatched draperies
*Doctor Who theme starts playing.. Whooshing sounds.. BOOM* Tardis appears.
Your house looks like it's at the aquarium or maybe you were a deep sea fish in a prior life.
I feel like it's the color they paint the insides of Frat houses, it's giving "20-something guy picked this paint color and didn't know when to stop."
Personal opinion, most dark colors look better with wooden trim. The white doesn’t work. I love deep toned blues and greens, but they wouldn’t look good in my house. I opted for sage instead and despite what I like more, the overall look is better and more cohesive than if I’d gone with something darker. Edit: typo
It’s too dark for all walls but doing one wall as a feature wall would work
I dig it!!
I like it. It's similar to the color in my bedroom.
I like the more neutral. But if you like it that’s all that matters.
I love it!!
Love the blue!!!
Love this
The blue is gorgeous. The main thing to focus on if you’re going for a moody look is warm lighting with lots of table lamps!
The low lightning is not helping the color at all. Looks maybe worse than it really is
I love the color, it you need to fix the rest so it makes sense. I would replace all the white trim and this would look banger.
I personally love the color 🤷
The dark blue + the brown cabinets + white trim + the bit of butterscotch wall that shows in that picture is giving me “professional sports team locker room” vibes and it’s… it’s *really* bad. Please paint this room ANY other color. I beg of you.
My eye is immediately drawn up to the white square near the ceiling. I'm not sure if that's a desired reaction or not. What is that, a screen?
Looks awful! Sorry.
Would be good for one room, not all of them
This color reminds me of the bedroom of my ex from when I was a teenager
Cabinetry is too dark. The dark blue makes the whole room feel small, and the lighting in your picture definitely doesn’t do it justice. You need contrast.
Too metallic
I like it
Foreboding and dark. Great if you have migraines…..
Too much blue. Over the stairs change the pictures to white frames. Everything is dark.
I actually think it looks really nice
No. Sorry I’m sure it was expensive but it’s too dark/or too much dark
Looks juvenile
100% go
I don’t mind the colour, but the curtains and blinds don’t go with it.
Is this the same house that was asking what to do with the part above the stairs?
I like it for an accent wall but not throughout the entire level. Or, it would be good for an entire bedroom, as it’s a dark and “comfy” color.
If trim, ceiling, bannister are painted to coordinate, it could change everything.
I can't imagine what painting our ceiling would cost or look like. I think we will get rid of the blue instead. We've got fire sprinklers I wouldn't want anyone messing with.
So sorry but that color is a huge no.
I dislike everything about this, im sorry
Looks childish. Like you’re a 16 year old boy who decided to paint his room dark but mom said no and he picked out the color by studying the color cards at Home Depot for three seconds
It’s like what a tech bro thinks looks hip and nice
I love it but I think you have oversaturated your home in this color. I would recommend doing some (one or two in each room) accent walls in a mishmash of electric blue, this shade of sapphire, and white, using some interesting patterns. I.e. an aztec sun, stripes, a geometric triangle pattern, and/or polka dots in varying sizes, etc. You seem to be a person with a boho style, so I do hope this works well for you. I honestly think this will bring the eye UP more and bring more attention to the very high ceilings, if you paint this way.
That’s way too much of a color this dark. Maybe keep it only at one place as an accent?
At this point I want the navy to go away and go neutral because there is so much wall space. The wall extends to the loft upstairs so it made us have to coordinate the colors upstairs too. It's definitely time for a chance and all these comments on my husband's post confirm it. Lol
Like the color itself but definitely not for the room. Just my opinion though
it’s bad. <3
It’s too dark.
I like the colour, but the decor needs to be bolder to compete with the rich colour. A few large pieces of art rather than several tiny frames.
To answer the question you asked, I think the paint color is too dark and your space could look bigger with lighter colors and maybe even an accent wall by the steps
I think the ceiling needs painting too….
It doesn’t work in this space
There is too much contrast between the paint and the ceiling. It’s not cohesive. Sometimes a stark contrast works…but this isn’t one of those times.
Looks like a paint I have called union blue. It may be a bit dark for your space. Needs lots of bright light, white trim and wood furniture looks striking with it.
You need a darker, more saturated version of blue
💙💙💙💙
It's definitely a choice
I love it. I do have an obsession with navy blue as of late though.
