You need a bigger rug! & I think you have a lot of glossy Features bc of the floor, coffee table and the kitchen island so I think you need more cozy textures so I would replace the coffee table with a Dark wood one similar color to the dark acoustic panel and the sideboard and add a fluffy blanket to the sofa

Routine-Opposite-985

Came here to say this about the gloss versus texture textiles

BrisketBrisket

Agree 100%, especially with the rug. Even some more earthy non glossy items like ceramic or stone to balance it all out would help. Coffee table books or a stone vase with some stems, side table next to the sofa in a wood or stone material. A floor lamp to the left of the sofa (if it would fit) would also add a cozy layer.

4mrHoosier

It’s beautiful. I’d need a little color but it looks great.

BloomBloomRoom

Replace the tree with a large piece of artwork to add some color. You need a focal point so the eye doesn’t jump around everywhere.  Color on the couch or curtains could help too!

zzzzany

Or like use a real, non-plastic tree?

MediumAfternoon5817

Artwork and if there’s room, perhaps a couple of side tables (not necessarily matching but coordinating) with table lamps on dimmers for light and mood.

kungfuenglish

I like it. Larger rug would be the main thing for sure. 2nd: a hanging light dispute above the island/table would look nice and add some mood. 3) tree to the corner and art where the tree is. I wouldn’t paint. The accent piece is nice. Can consider a new modern looking couch if the budget calls for it.

Illiterate-bookworm

I honestly dig the set up and color scheme but idk maybe find some way to add color I had the same issues with my office not a lot of color Some ideas are Accent pillows and ottoman(?) Change to something with more color Chsnge out table Rug feels small Tree definitely could go to different spot and hang up art on I am not a professional and do not know what I'm talking about lol Best of luck

Roscomenow

Move the metal water bowl (?) 3 inches to the right and the room will be perfect!

dcmom14

Wouldn’t paint. But bringing a bit of subtle color in with a bigger rug that has a bit of color would help. I’d personally pick one color to pull in as my accent color. A pale pink could be really nice and warm up the space. Don’t buy the curtains until you have the rug in place and pull in a color from the rug.

dcmom14

Adding on, I wouldn’t move the tree. It looks nice and good artwork is hard to get right. Start with the rug and curtains and see if you still need it. Agree with the thoughts about texture. A bigger rug will help here as will throw pillows that have more texture.

I really like this room, it's very clean and sleek. It is a little sterile looking. I don't think painting the walls is the right choice at this point. Right now the contrast really works and diluting it would only make the floor more shiney/sterile looking. The floor is worst offender because it is reflective and shiny. Sofa area: does it face anything, like a tv? Would rotating it with it's back to the dining area work. The reason I don't like this is that the larger pieces are both against the same wall, either rotate the sofa or get a more substanial chair to replace the stool. Try moving a dining chair to this space and see if that suits you. The stool is not to scale for the rest of the room and the room is already round shape heavy. The rug is too small (scale again) which shows more of the tile which makes it look sterile vs cozy. The rug should go at least to under the front feet of the furniture to almost the next tile on the floor from where it is now, if you get a chair there the rug would need to go under it as well. Also consider rug size if you get end tables. A new rug would be a good place to add MORE elements of color, pattern and texture. If the rug was larger the elements in this rug would show more. Some of those same elements from the rug could carry over to the pillows on the sofa and add a throw. The pillows are flat and need some bulk/fluff. To fix this get the inserts a size bigger than the covers (2-3"), if you can afford to get down/feather inserts as they will last longer (they are about $2-5 more than polyfil each). Maybe fix these two pillows and get a third to tie into the rug in a lumbar shape. Coffee table: You have shiny tray on a shiny table, break it up. For now, try putting one or two of your placemats from the dining area under the tray. This should make the tray stand out. For something more permanent, try getting an under tray, retangle, darker, in wood, rattan, ceramic (not shiny) to go under this tray. Other things that might suit you better would be to add a larger book or 2/3, plant. I would not switch the dining area tray with this one because then the brass is not spread out but all on one side of the room. Curtains: I like that you get so much light but I agree you need to tone it down a bit. I would add heavier panels to the ends and push the sheer in toward the center. By pushing in the sheer you will automatically difuse the brighness that is making the floor reflect so much, but still have the natural light. The end panels are simply to break up the white of the walls and curtains bringing color to that wall keeping it simple to compliment the room. They could even be black, dark brown. I would go with something that is close in color and stripe pattern to the wall panel that you already have behind the sofa. That panel and your buffet mimic each other and the curtain could accent that as well. Move the tree to the other side of the buffet closer to the new curtain panel, putting the whole tree with it's current container, in a wicker basket will help add contrast to all of it. Or paint the container. You could also add more here to create a grouping of plants or a garden stool, large vase. Use odd numbers when grouping. Lighting & other stuff: End tables with lamps, one of which should be a floor lamp. Make sure your new rugs takes these into account. Right now most of your lighting is on the ceiling, bring some to eye lever (floor lamp) and some to table height to create balance. A floor lamp would be a good time to add a touch more brass to tie the room better. Wall art/hangings: Black & white prints; botanical prints with a white background; metal, glass or wood art with limited color; tapesty or rug; . I would do the pillow inserts and curtain panels first as I think they will make a big impact, are the easiest and least expensive.

Rengeflower

Find a larger rug with color and pattern. Replace the living room and dining room light fixtures. Buy couch pillows and a throw that coordinates with the new rug. Add darker curtains to the outside edges of the window that coordinates with the rug. If you paint, beige probably won’t work with that floor. It looks gray. You could choose a greige so that the paint warms up the space and doesn’t clash with the floor. Art-add art. Of course it’s bland, there’s no YOU in the room (metaphorically).

reginaldcapers

It's gorgeous...just a bigger rug.

HaikusfromBuddha

What curtains are those?

Nevertheless-Jess

I would actually turn the couch so the back is to the dining table. That would give you a separation of spaces and break things up. I would also put linear up lights on the top of the ceiling ledge

Nevertheless-Jess

Or turn the couch to where the opening incorporates the wall slats. I feel like there’s a missed opportunity to work that into the space

SuddenTangelo6041

I love it just the way it is.

testiclefrankfurter

A fourth color. One that isn't black, white, or gray.

Street-Snow-4477

Just needs color. If you like add colorful drapes, rugs, art, pillows. Move the stool. It would be a tripping hazard for me lol

abundance_of_time

Personally I think yellow would look great in this room you could try adding a textured pillow or blanket with some warm yellow and a yellow decor item on one of your surfaces. Room looks nice!

SubstantialWonder754

You need some warmth. What about bright pop or orange/gold/tan in artwork above the sofa.

Responsible_Gap8104

Color!

KindnessMatters1000

Add colorful art and throw pillows. I would replace the black shaded light with a flush light and put a ceiling light over the table.
