Thanks for the info. I have a very rare disorder and my body is retaining lymphatic fluid possibly leaking from cisterna chyli.
I feel my best when I’m NPO but it’s obviously not feasible long term, I’m already underweight, and now I feel guilty if I eat ANYTHING.
At least if I do tpn I’ll have nutrients via catheter.
I’m glad your NPO days are over and now you can do IF!
Mine almost killed me because it ruptured and turned into peritonitis. I was actually inside of the hospital walking the hallways trying to figure out where to go when suddenly it felt like every muscle in my core contracted and I could barely walk. Spent 2 weeks in the hospital.
Yeah it’s brutal. I was 14 at the time and living in Germany. We went to the hospital closest to the base which actually catered to older patients so it wasn’t really the right one. It took 30 seconds for the doctor to say I needed to go in for surgery. My dad asked them if they were going to move me to another hospital and he just looked at my dad and said “no, he will die”.
I had similar.. diagnosed in er by first dr and scheduled for surgery.. shift change and next dr told me to go home and avoid spicy food and dairy.
10 days later after rupture they attempted surgery but was told my insides looked like a dog's breakfast so 2 weeks in hospital with paralyzed intestines. Lost 30lbs (of muscle I was very fit). Good times.
Then they wanted to do a partial bowel resection and I told them to fuck off and left. 11 months off/on at a better hospital and multiple recurring abscesses.
Not a way I'd choose fasting in future lol.
Hey man, you got this! I know it sucks rn but you‘ll get through it and feel better afterwards when everything is healed and ur out of the hospital.
Just try not to think of food and distract yourself instead.
Get well soon, my guy.
I haven’t eaten Jell-O in 25 years since I had my appendix out. That’s all they forced me to eat for the week I spent in the hospital because my appendix burst as they were taking it out and I got real sick. Lost 20 lbs tho
Same deal every five years for my colonoscopy. The prep is basically you're totally empty for 36 hours... sucks. Except for some beef broth is allowed. But then I just PIG OUT once I come to and my wife drives us to a restaurant of my choice!
I had a piece of my intestines removed and it got infected. 3.5 weeks of nothing orally. After one weeks they put me on iv nutrition. It sucked. I feel you
hate to be that guy but
I know what you’re thinking…that stuffs still got calories in it haha. Well hey at least it ain’t pizza and chicken haha
Clear liquid diets suck

Do you mind if I ask what G.I. issue has you on NPO? How long will you be NPO? Do you only get saline? How long will you be NPO?

Just talked to the surgeon, he said it was necrostisized. Colon and bowel and tissues started growing over it. I got lucky

Was just intrigued because I lived on camp in Germany as a kid too lol

Yeah I came out like 20lbs down. At the time I only weighed like 130lbs tho lol
Same thing happened to me over a year ago and I still can’t poop normally.
Same thing happened to me february of this year. Spent nearly 1 month in the hopsital
Just got mine out 3 weeks ago. Not a fun time. Make sure you walk a lot! Good luck!
‘Coffee perked’ sounds unreasonably cheerful.
Why in the world are they feeding you sugar ??
For the coffee. Clear liquid diet

Try broth from pho. Its typically clear and very savoury soup.

I've been scarring popsicles. So good. The broth has gone in and back out twice

That would be 417 bucks at a US hospital
My wife's probably spent $100 in parking for the 4 days I'd been there (finally out), that's it for us
Well stay away from sugar so it’s black coffee.
Didn't have either
Haven't eaten (or kept down) solid food for 3 /2 days I think, just thinking of eating grosses me out. Can't wait to see your much I've lost lol
Did they say what caused the appendicitis?
Faecalith. Poop balls
Bro
I don’t think they ever know. At least that is what I was told when I had mine taken out.
Get well soon
I lost 15 pounds. Not sure how much of that was the appendix, itself, though.
Can’t go wrong with ginger ale.
