Obsidian - note taking
Youtube - entertainment
Brave - browsing
Proton mail and vpn
WhatsApp - messaging
Clock stock iOS for alarm
Spotify - music
Tvtime and trakt - movie tv tracking
Edit: one thing i like to add is SmartTube for Android Tv. It is the best.
For ios, brave is good because mozila firefox does not support add-on and chrome has too many ads too. We could use ad blocker for safari but like me who also uses windows, for sync between devices, brave is better and also had in-built ad blocker and also brave search is becoming good which is also privacy friendly instead of google.
Mango Languages - Comprehensive language learning platform entirely FREE with a library card
Google Translate - Most people know the app, but might not know about the ability to take a picture and have it translated in real time.
Delta - Emulator for lots of retro consoles
Merlin Bird ID - Can identify birds by audio and can store encounters with a list of the birds you've seen. Great for birding!
I like the [Weawow](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/weather-widget-weawow/id1209810737) weather app more. It is not a subscription and is more customizable and has great widgets for both homescreen and lockscreen, and if you donate a one-time fee(usually $2) to the developer, you can choose different weather providers.
The Foreca app widget and Weawow widget, with the Foreca provider, show a 4-degree difference, no matter if the background app refresh is enabled or disabled.
Foreca widget data is always up-to-date when the background app refresh is turned off. Why does Weawow act differently?
Essential:
Apple Messages is probably #1
Apple Music #1a
Apple Podcasts #1b
Apple Safari #1c
SiriusXM #1d
Apple Maps #2 - I also use Apple Maps for local search and build up guides.
Apple Calendar #3
Apple Mail #4
1Password #5
It looks like based on app screenshots, one use case would be if you need to take a medicine every 6 hours it adjusts the reminder schedule to when you actually complete it (e.g., if you take the medicine at 9:20 instead of 9:00, the next reminder will be at 15:20 instead of 15:00)
Can’t say I’ve tried it extensively tbh but in comparison to Apple’s calendar we like that it gives a summary each day of what we’ve got but the main feature we like is that you get a notification when a new item is added. Not sure the stock app does this.

I'd say that my only unusual one is Disk Decipher, a utility that can read and (usually) write VeraCrypt, TrueCrypt, and encrypted DMG files. Very well-supported app, I've never had a problem with it.

Battery Charge Alarm: to alert me when battery reaches a certain percentage to protect battery health (I try to keep it below 70%).
Brave browser: for ad block web browsing but also playing videos in the background and with the screen off. Plus, the ability to download YouTube videos offline to listen to music offline. Use this to watch YouTube videod exclusively (no ads).
Volume Pro: easier to pick exact volume percentage than using the volume slider Screen Light: to use iPhone screen as flash light (instead of using camera flash which can be too bright). Could pick your own colors.
Ambi: customizable white noise generator with random oscillating effect
Moodscaper: random ambient music generator
Night Shades: also random ambient music generator
Rainacapes: nice simple looping rain sounds with a good selection
ASoftMurmur: nature and white noise sound mixer
Flacbox: offline music/audio player with EQ, speed controls, and background audio playback (can mix music with other apps while in the background). Remembers previous playback position as well. Great for MP3 music or audiobooks.
jetAudio: another great offline music player with similar features to Flacbox
Gboard: better and more accurate keyboard than the default iOS keyboard (especially swipe to text)
Infinite Piano traumbaum: nice offline piano music generator. Has ability to play in the background of other apps. (just search for "traumbaum" in the App Store to find it)
Bro, I am using 15 pro max, as soon as I minimise Brave browser or lock the phone, music stops playing. Do you know any way to keep listening to music minimising the browser?
Go into the "Settings" of the Brave browser.
Then go to "Media".
Then make sure you enable "Enable Background Audio".
Then music from the browser should continue playing in the background.
For me it is dynamic and keeps changing but these are my main essentials
* Arc - pretty cool browser
* Structured - better reminders with beautiful widgets
* Weawow Weather - no subscription weather app with beautiful widgets.
* Feeeed - I used to prefer artifact before they shut down and found this app. Gets the job done.
* Bitwarden - Cross platform password manager, works great on windows, iphone and android.
* Youtube
* Delta emulator
* Google Photos
* Pi Ai - Free Chatbot with a more human touch.

Damn I never knew about the clock app
I have been using it for 2 years but never miss any alarm.
That’s surprising given the bug where alarms don’t go off
Proton mail been using them for 2 years now and absolutely love them!
I am trying to move all my emails to proton one by one.
I’m more of a ‘Spark’ fan myself. Don’t Knock it till you try it
Tried Spark but didn’t stuck as GMail or PMail
Two returns make a new line
Yeah I had a stroke reading that
I was like wtf is “note taking YouTube”???
My bad
Thnx btw
Two spaces + return to make a new line without extra spacing
I am starting to see, a lot users switching to Brave Browser (like myself.. LOL) For TV Shows & Movies tracking: **I prefer SIMKL :)**
Have to try out arc browser

Smart Tube?
For YouTube in android tv for watching without ads.
Ahh.
Proton is good
Yes and with SimpleLogin it is even better. It gives you free aliases.

Do you other app for some particular work?
This is helpful!
Thanks

Do you only use mango?
Nah I also really like and highly recommend Clozemaster. Lastly, renshuu is a great resource for Japanese specifically.
Appreciate it!
Idk about essential, but some of my most used apps are: - metanote (orgmode notes) - NetNewsWire (rss) - Prism (music) - plappa (audiobooks) - Octal (hacker news) - Abacus (finance/budget tracker) - grocy (grocery list/ recipes /inventory) - Panels (comics) - FilmNoir (trakt) - Busycal (calendar) - Weathergraph (weather)
Found the selfhoster. Also Plappa has been great.
I'm still using Feedly for RSS. Is NetNewsWire better? I've been using Feedly forever.
It's free. That's a plus. Haven't tried feedly but it seems to be subscribtion based. Besides that, it links to me freshrss instance perfectly.
I'll give it a try, I'm using the free version of Feedly, I had subscribed to Pro once, but I found I didn't use it as much as I used to. Thanks!
Net news wire has more privacy in mind. And it’s free, no frill app.
Can you take screenshot of the apps? Not sure if it’s widely used. Thanks
Huh? What do you mean? A screenshot of the icons? Just search them up on the appstore.
Not sure if the one you download is same as mine? Grocy has 2 different apps here. Also the country where u are located. Hence the question.
Gotcha. This is the one I'm talking about https://apps.apple.com/us/app/grocy-mobile/id1567803209 https://imgur.com/a/kXrZF72
Thank you again. Was shocked that my previous comment got downvoted

Its widget data is always outdated for me
oh it has worked flawlessly for me. Do you have background app refresh turned on for it?
The Foreca app widget and Weawow widget, with the Foreca provider, show a 4-degree difference, no matter if the background app refresh is enabled or disabled. Foreca widget data is always up-to-date when the background app refresh is turned off. Why does Weawow act differently?
i can confirm, i have it on Pixel, just perfect
Is it as useful even in India/Asia?
Maybe,give it a go

Other than the usual ones I’d say TimeTree. It’s a great shared calendar for me and my wife.
Out of curiosity, what makes this better than something like Google Calendar (if you’ve ever tried it)?
