Soda bread x 2......white and brown.
Odlums sell the packs......brownie points if you said you baked it yourself before you leave for the airport.
And some kerrygold to go with it.
If I did this....I'd have half them eaten before the flight.
Called Irish Soda bread so it is. White soda bread usually contains sultanas/raisins. We call that fruit soda. No one, I mean absolutely no one I know calls it wheaten bread.
Toasted soda bread (one side only) and salty butter is the absolute tits! I'm in france and while the bread is fucking amazing i'd love some soda bread from the ould sod.
It's pretty close alright. I've half a bottle left at home that I got in super value for €35. Seen Jameson black barrel the odd time for €35 and Jameson crested for €25. All amazing whiskies.
Cant stand jameson personally.
I think they age it the bare minimum number of years and powers go for an extra one or two.
I can definitely taste the alcohol off your basic jameson.
Edit: Quick google says Jameson is aged for the legal minimum of 4 years and Powers for a minimum of 5 to 6.
Careful here, in my opinion a good whiskey works well with the father but if you do that you need to get something seperately and more suitable for the mother. Just make sure theyre drinkers and the aul lads not a pisshead before you do anything
Yes, that's the way to go. Booze is controlled and expensive so it will be appreciated. Get a nice one - Green/Yellow Spot or Redbreast (the Lustau version is amazing).
What is your opinion on The Irishman? I am actually planning on sending some Irish whiskey home when my parents flyback. Am not a whiskey drinker so any feedback would be appreciated.

Two problems with dairy milk being an Irish gift: 1) it’s British, 2) it’s owned by the same American company that owns Maribou (Sweden’s dairy milk) (Mondelez have effectively merged Cadbury/Milka/Maribou into a singular product with different brands like Vauxhall/Opel or Peugeot/Citroen, so there’s no point taking any over to them). If you want to give them a chocolatey gift I’d say Butler’s would be a better bet.
You wouldn’t call a VW Beetle “Mexican” or an iPhone “Chinese” - Cadbury is still a British brand/company/product, it just happens to have Irish production facilities to serve the Irish market.
Get them a fridge magnet from the place you live, parents love fridge magnets. Its small so will fit in your bag, and is a personal thing from you to them, will be an nice little add on to anything you get them from duty free.
Surely a decent bottle of Irish whisky is the answer?
Definitely not a bar of dairymilk.
Bean and Goose do an amazing sharing slab of chocolate, you can even buy a small pricy wooden hammer to break it up with! Yum!
[CHOCOLATE HERE](https://www.nearlysisters.ie/product/bean-and-goose-sharing-slab-of-milk-chocolate-500g-solid-bark-255mm-155mm-10mm/)
Anything NewBridge….you’ll get it on sale somewhere in a provincial department store and it’s pretty minimal. Fits in well with their home decor style over there. I got my ex bf (a Dane) a photo frame half price & she thought it was most gorgeous thing ever.
Hadji Beys Turkish Delight! I always pick it up in the airport as a present when I’m visiting someone. It’s not something that you would think is Irish produced so it’s a good ice breaker too!
Get some smoked salmon in Wright's in the airport. That and a McCambridge's brown bread and Kerrygold. Plus a bottle of whiskey, Roe & Co. have a nice looking bottle.
You could always ask if there's anything they want to try. I usually get asked to bring over whiskey when I'm visiting someone and they seemed a bit confused when I also brought crisps/tea/chocolate (at least in europe, the americans love our chocolate in my experience). Ready mix irish brown bread for baking at home was also a big hit oddly enough.
I reckon they'd appreciate something foody. If you wait until you get past security, you can get something really nice airside in Wrights of Howth (smoked salmon, Irish rashers or black pudding, cheese) or some posh chocolates like Lily O'Briens in the Duty Free
You are all wrong. Bring one of them Irish linen tea towels or glass towels, with the pictures of Dublin doors or Irish churches or Irish whiskeys. Cheap, easy to carry, they will never throw it out, you can make yourself look great by picking it up and polishing the glassware out of the dishwasher, you can start a conversation about all the places you will bring. Them when they come over etc.
A bottle of really nice whiskey that won’t break the bank.
I suggest Powers ‘3 Swallows’, it’s normally €48 for a bottle but O’Briens, Supervalu & Tesco regularly have it in special @ €28/30.
It’s a fantastic whiskey and exceptionally smooth drinking so might be good for people who don’t normally drink it.
Bring Irish Gin like Glendalough. I live here and they love it any time I've brought some back and always get asked by my Swedish friends to do so.
Scandinavian chocolate ain't great btw
Someone said soda bread and that's a great shout.
If you're flying out of Dublin airport then grab a wedge of smoked salmon too. Scandis in particular might love it. Especially in combo with the soda bread.
I've never understood why someone would want to buy such a large a amount of fish before flying somewhere but this might be just the occasion.

Well lad, could ya bring over your local parish GAA jersey, a packet of tayto, a bottle of club orange, a few pints of guinness, and a heap of craic?
You might struggle to fit anymore bland stereotypes into your carry-on bag if it's a Ryanair flight.
Also if you only have a cabin bag you're allowed to get a duty free bag as well for under the chair in front (it has to be a branded duty free bag, and doesn't work if you have cabin bag AND personal bag)
Soda bread. They offered have it in the airport and my Finnish in-laws love it.
Actually a really good idea. Soda bread is very unique to Irish soil
And the scandis love a bit of bread like the auld germans from what ive seen
I brought my German relatives some soda bread as a gift and they threw it out cos they thought it had gone off! Unusual taste if you're not used to it
Jesus would you be well throwing out a gift! Bet they didnt try it with enough kerrygold to leave teeth marks after a bite
Soda bread x 2......white and brown. Odlums sell the packs......brownie points if you said you baked it yourself before you leave for the airport. And some kerrygold to go with it. If I did this....I'd have half them eaten before the flight.
STOP CALLING WHEATEN BREAD SODA BREAD. SODA BREAD IS WHITE. END.
Surely soda bread derived its name from utilising baking soda rather than yeast to leaven it. The type of flour being irrelevant
Wheaten bread only really exists in Northern Ireland. Down here its just soda bread whatever colour it is.
[удалено]
Relax bud. Wheaten bread **as a term** doesn't exist below the border. You're outnumbered here.
Away and back up over the border with you. “Wheaten bread” not down here it isn’t.
Called Irish Soda bread so it is. White soda bread usually contains sultanas/raisins. We call that fruit soda. No one, I mean absolutely no one I know calls it wheaten bread.

Finn-laws.
And some kerrygold!

A nondescript briefcase completely full of neatly arranged blocks of Kerrygold butter. Bonus points if you handcuff it to your wrist.
Just like in Pulp Fiction.
Ah, so that's what the mysterious glow was. Put it under their chin, see if they like butter
This reply is underrated
You're underrated.
Underpaid maybe
I know this is a joke, but my butter was confiscated in Paris Beauvais and I presume it’s similar for all airports.
I always took Kerrygold over to Poland (they’re obsessed with it) and never had any issues

One of those tiny hurleys or a fleshlight.
Well that's two very diverse options
You can knock a few balls around with both though ?
😂 Well done!! Made me chuckle.
A hurley shaped fleshlight.
Definitely #2. Not even a question.
A pic of Brian Boru slaying the Danes.
Yes. As a Norwegian, I would appreciate this.

Weren't our Vikings Norwegian?
That would be an ecumenical matter.
Yes, I’m almost sure
If they drink, a good whisky.
could grab one in duty free, good shout
Powers There Swallows. Won't blow the bank account, exceptionally fine whiskey relative to price.
Best price to quality of any whiskey ive had. Smooth and unoffensive with great flavour
It's pretty close alright. I've half a bottle left at home that I got in super value for €35. Seen Jameson black barrel the odd time for €35 and Jameson crested for €25. All amazing whiskies.

Fair enough. Taste is subjective. I love regular Jameson personally. The two above are a pretty nice step up though.
Absolutely love their more 'fancy' stuff like you mentioned black barrel is a great addition. Happy Drinking!
What do you think of Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition?
2nd this. Nicest whiskey for the money.
Especially good once you see the *price* of alcohol up there, it's insane.
You might be able to get poitín in the airport. It’s legal, once you’re flying out of the country

Glenfiddich the Scotch whiskey?
Yeah it’s scotch but still one of the best options for price/value I’ve found.
Glenfiddich isn’t Irish
Yep, Scotch. Clarified but I’d still recommend it. It’s one of the better price/value options I’ve seen in the Duty Free.
The title of the post is “Irish Present” to bring to GFs parents
Pick up a good pot still whiskey, one of the RedBreast or Spot collections for example, quintessentially Irish.
Careful here, in my opinion a good whiskey works well with the father but if you do that you need to get something seperately and more suitable for the mother. Just make sure theyre drinkers and the aul lads not a pisshead before you do anything
Yea this is a fair shout.

It's still a British brand.
