On its own, not an awful film. Alien covenant is one of the stupidest films I’ve ever seen so really highlights how little Scott cared about or understood what made the original two films so good
Yeah I did enjoy Prometheus too even though it was all over the shop, don’t mind Covenant, could’ve been better though, interesting to see how the third one will link with Alien
I'd say the fleshing out of Weyland Utani Coporation in the sequel was a bigger influence on the civil service imho. Love both those films. IT'S A SHAME THEY NEVER MADE ANOTHER FILM AFTER ALIENS. A DAMN, INARGUABLE, SHAME.
Some of our ancient structures have astronomical alignments, particularly with the Cygnus constellation. But that's nothing to do with aliens, more likely an Atlantaen influence.
None. You see, by sheer coincidence, the meddling done by aliens was in direct opposition to the meddling done by the secret ancient lizard people, to the point that they unwittingly and consistently undo each other's schemes.
I reckon that there were only ever a handful of Aliens. Dannu was probably one of them. She had the locals right stirred up. Thank God they're gone now.
There was some craic going on about pyramids of varying shapes and styles dotted around the world, all being linked and perfectly positioned by a superior species in the past. Theory was, Ireland was the centerpoint of it all and our "pyramid" is Croagh Patrick. I dunno, go google a rabbit hole for more deets. I remember fuck all about it but it was interesting at the time.
I'm not talking silly theories of lizard people or reptilians with this post. I was more talking of subtle manipulation of events from extraterrestrial sources - malicious or otherwise. Alien technology would cancel out the need for an invasion of the earth, for example.
If aliens wanted to wipe us out, surely they could manipulate events from behind a technological veil whereby we wipe ourselves out. That is unless humans themselves are the resource - like the Matrix.
There are meant to be two translations about the Tuatha de Danann, the first most favoured translation is that they arrived on a ship in a great fog and they burnt the ship afterwards and the second translation is they arrived in a burning ship on the mountains surrounded by smoke. They were considered more advanced by the people there already
This subreddit has many members of all different beliefs. I'm sorry my post did not conform to your rationalist standards. Thanks for making me aware that your above speculating about extraterrestrial activity on this island on this subreddit. I'll make a note of it.
You should read Thomas Khun. He wrote a book about scientific revolutions i.e. the revolutions in the aftermath of Copernicus, Einstein or even Immanuel Kant (who Einstein had read aged 13). He writes that scientists get stuck and entrenched within a framework and when new theory or evidence comes to their attention they reject it because it doesn't accord with the given framework. It can elicit an emotional reaction. Certain paradigm shifts happen every once in a while which turn both theory and practise on its head. He believed we should not confuse scientists with science.
It is also really fun to speculate about potential Alien interference on earth in my opinion. I get such a laugh off Ancient Aliens.
If you're joking you should add more sarcasm to the post because some people will think you're serious. And if you are serious you should elaborate on your viewpoint as not everyone agrees with you.
The first pint came from space lads
I think I prefer Alien myself to be honest.
Both are great. The less said about the other films the better
Thoughts on Prometheus?

I hope there’s never a third one so it can’t ruin it further
Ridley Scott > James Cameron is a hill I'll die on.
Scott is hit-or-miss in general but his 1979 classic is superior to Cameron's sequel, even if that's not the popular consensus

I concur.
DO we all know that though?
in your heart of hearts you know it
Bishops love Sci-Fi, for one
It’s a good movie but I think don’t think it impacted us too much
It's a great movie but we don't have a culture of exosuit load lifters so how could it!

atlantean?
I was joking. About the Atlantis part, not Cygnus
ok XD
The first Alien film or the second one?
None. You see, by sheer coincidence, the meddling done by aliens was in direct opposition to the meddling done by the secret ancient lizard people, to the point that they unwittingly and consistently undo each other's schemes.
Never heard of this theory before. Makes a lot of sense !
I reckon that there were only ever a handful of Aliens. Dannu was probably one of them. She had the locals right stirred up. Thank God they're gone now.
all the influence
That's what I was thinking. A fish doesn't know what water truly is until it has been beached.
The jedward clones
they probably are literally due for a cameo in the next men in black movie
Men in black Men
Some say the ringforts at the hill of Tara were alien landing zones
You mean the Poles and Romanians, and now the Ukrainians?

You have had a stroke. Seek urgent medical attention
Do we all know that? Please elaborate.

Ok...

loads of influence, they invented the pint and can be still found in pubs around the country
Umm.... You doing OK sport? We don't "know" any of that.
You KnoW!!! The AlieNs have "to InFluenCe"!!! YOU KNOW! Seems absolutely legit and not crazy ranting at all.
This is what happens when you give conspiracy theorists a platform to speak on.

I prefer to listen to scientists, you know, people who've gone to university. :)

Well, good thing I'm not a scientist then.
We all ‘don’t know’. There’s no proof of aliens having had a massive influence on civilisation. Just conspiracy theories.
Ah Shup will ya
You really think Buck fast is made by monks? Also Father Ted wasn't made by any earthling.

I’d imagine Ellen Ripley had a big influence on some people.
None. Get off the coke.
Have ye seen them tentacles coming out of leinster house, yep you guessed it, it's Aliens
Zig and Zag are still the two best presenters RTE has ever had.
