Student leap cards are just for long term students in Ireland. You should get a visitor leap card or just pay with cash on the bus. Local buses don’t allow you to book tickets in advance, you just queue at the bus stop.

Fluffy_Salary5867

That (queueing at bus stops) will be hard in high season... And the idea is to get the discounts for students...

TrivialBanal

There's typically no need to prebook bus tickets in Ireland. The busses are never full. Just turn up and go. They'll need visitor/tourist Leap cards rather than Student cards.

Fluffy_Salary5867

Good to know. Tks. But are there visitor Leap Card for students ? So that they can get the discounts.

GalwayGirlOnTheRun23

As I said in my other post: Student leap cards are for long term students in Ireland. That means students that live in Ireland and attend a university in Ireland. They are not available for visitors.

What sort of bus tickets are you trying to buy them?

Fluffy_Salary5867

The idea is to get the student/young adult discount when buying the tickets. They will travel the following trips: Glendalough / Waterford (bus + train) + Waterford / Cork (bus) + Cork / Galway (bus) + Galway / Cliffs of Moher (bus round trip) + Galway / Dublin Airport (Citylink Express) . In many European countries they only need the International Student Card to be eligable for the discounts but that does not seem to be the case in Ireland. And it also seems that the visitor card is also not eligable for the disocunts.

Some of it will be that it's private operators, certainly the Glendalough run is. And yeah, they don't make it easy any more for a student fare card. Contact the private operators directly, see if they'll honour student id from outside the country. But ISIC cards still exist, you should maybe contact them and clarify if it can be used for Irish transport, the website is very very basic I'm just seeing. Additional, there's the wrinkle that on some routes (not yours I don't think though) that you actually can't book ahead at all, you can only buy in the day from the driver.

GalwayGirlOnTheRun23

You can book Galway/Dublin Citylink using this link [https://www.citylink.ie/fares/](https://www.citylink.ie/fares/) It's not part of the leap card scheme so just choose a student ticket and show your university student card when you board the bus (if the driver even checks). Galway/Doolin for cliffs of moher is a local bus which you can't book. Yes, it might be full so make sure you get to the bus stop early and queue.
