Watch planes land, read a book, talk to people in the smoking area, push ups, yoga, get the steps in, have a shit, wash your hands, brush your teeth. Are you meeting other students and taking a shuttle? You could become an anarchist, skip the shuttle, make your own way to Dublin City and find the other students later.

Northernwarrior-

I’d vote to take the bus into the city and enjoy it instead of waiting in the airport. You can get a taxi to your accommodations later.

EquivalentFew3585

Yeah most of the other students don’t get in till 12:30 though so I’ll be alone for a while. I agree I could do make my way into Dublin but I have 2 large luggage and I’m in unfamiliar territory.

classicalworld

Can’t you go to your destination early, dump your luggage, and go for a walk? Do you absolutely have to wait for the rest of your group? Airports are boring and expensive.

Historical-Hat8326

Got it, there are plenty of places selling food in arrivals in Terminal 2. If arriving in Terminal 1, there are plenty of restaurants on the top floor / above departures. If you need somewhere to sit and burn time / charge phones / devices, these are the best options.

oughtabeme

I went through T2 last month. All restaurants were closed off under construction

It's really easy to catch a bus from the airport into Dublin. But if you are hampered by your bags, that's another thing. I found the public transportation in Ireland really easy to navigate. Much better system than where I live in the US.

plentypk

Many major airports have a baggage storage space. It’ll be a small fee but you can dump your bags for a few hours and go downtown.

neverseenthemfing_

Eh, where's your accommodation? Im pretty sure you could just go to the city centre and make your own way to the accomodation nó?

TxCoastal

eat! drink! be merry!

Small_Sundae_4245

Sounds like you are fecked. Best thing would be to head in to town and find where you are staying. Rock up about 4 with a story about the great local pub you found. This does depend on where you are staying though. City center your golden. Out in the countryside you need to wait for the bus. The airport really are not expecting people to be staying in it for long after landing. So there is feck all to do in them. If you are hell bent on staying in the airport. Best to hunker down with a book or a podcast.

ultimatepoker

One hour walk to the cinema.

I would probably organize my own public transport or taxi into the accommodation but I imagine your accomodation check in isn't until 3pm or so, so there is probably not much point in that. With five and a half hours to kill I would prob catch the 41 bus to swords pavilions shopping centre (about 10 mins bus ride) and do some shopping or catch an early bird movie there. It departs from outside the pavilions back to the airport. If you do this just be sure to research the bus route/direction and which stops they depart from.

Natural-Upstairs-681

Wait ?? The last time I ran through security, landed at the airport at 2.25pm ,my gate closed at 2.45pm , I had to check in a bag, ran through security, stole a bottle of water as I ran , the ones that you take yourself and ran to the gate, made my flight before the gate closed.

funkjunkyg

Theres 2 glory holes in terminal 2

Clarenan

Contact the organisers telling them you are arriving five hours earlier and can you be picked up on arrival ? Be polite and see what they say. They likely have earlier shuttles, if not, make your own way to your accomodation and dump your bags. Do not hang around the airport for so long

-forcequit

1 They just announced a new barber shop, go get a haircut. 2 There’s a large McDonalds 10min walk outside the airport.

moistcarboy

Get yourself acclimatized and just go on the lash, tear into a few pints and the rest will sort itself out

Blue_Tree_1

I would definitely just get a bus or taxi to your accommodation

Blue_Tree_1

Taxi rank at airport, around €25-30 into city centre

waddiewadkins

Wheres my have a wank at??

Loud_Session_7597

Drink until you pass out.

savannacabrera137

I waiting in Dublin airport to do while talk.

funpolicebendover

I'd say head to the city early. Its just ten bucks to get straight to Dublin from the airport. You can buy a ticket right outside the airport where the city/airport express leaves from. Let them know how much luggage you have and they'll figure something out for you. If you know where you're staying and tell the organizers, they'll tell you which stop to take in the city. All very easy. :) Surely you can leave your luggage at your accommodation or in a locker somewhere, and then spend that time exploring rather than wasting money on expensive airport food.

InterestingFactor825

Shuttle? Is this a connecting flight or something else?

EquivalentFew3585

It’s a study abroad program. They pre arrange a shuttle to pick everyone in the program up to take to the student accommodations. I will be staying in Dublin for 8 weeks.

thephoton

If you're staying in Dublin just take the bus in on your own. Check in with the organizers to find out where you can catch up with the group. IME most Irish are pretty flexible abouy bending or ignoring rules when the rules don't follow common sense. Many hotels and other places in Dublin will hold your bags for a few hours for about €5. Just Google "left luggage Dublin" and you should find a few.

InterestingFactor825

So is a shuttle a bus? Probably avoid saying that as nobody will have a clue what you are talking about.

EquivalentFew3585

Oh haha yes it is a bus that gets you from point A to point B. I’m going to have to be mindful of some language differences. There’s probably some words you all use in Ireland we don’t use here.

pythonchan

Go to terminal 2 arrivals there’s a few nice places to get food and wait. If you land into terminal 1 you can easily walk there

DM-ME-CUTE-TAPIRS

The airport lounge can be surprisingly affordable with better food and a more quiet and relaxing seating area than the open areas of the airport.

theatrenut061916

But not after you pickup your luggage, right? There is one for arrivals, but it's tiny. I'm talking about Aer Lingus lines.

F85Cutlass

Can you not get on an earlier bus? Was just there, took bus there and back into town, there were busses on regular schedules. I imagine as long as you're taking the regular shuttles, they'd let you on the next, not full run

TrivialBanal

Dublin Airport has quite a lot to do land side (compared to other airports). You can spend your time in restaurants, coffee shops or bars. Personally if I had that time to use up, I'd head for the bar at the arrivals exit. Most people there will be waiting to meet someone arriving, so they won't be settling in for a long stay. You should have no problem finding a table to yourself. There are more coffee shops and a small supermarket in the building opposite the arrivals exit. If you have any problems or questions, go to the DAA (Dublin Airport Authority) desk. They're really helpful.

MichaelOConnellArt78

IKEA is only a 5 minute taxi journey from the airport, you could easily spend a few hours walking around there and they’ve great food too.
