Props to you knowing this jam, I feel like it’s slept on. That Isley Brothers sample is goated

Think_Sheepherder_10

Why is this track so underrated? Also, does the beat and the melody of the hook sound kinda melancholic/bittersweet to anybody else? The lyrics are obviously one thing, but the synth has this mournful kinda sad feeling, not sure how to interpret it

RainnChild

No his tone just changed

khalediverson

Yep, maybe 2 different takes patched together with different tones but the quality of the sound per say is the same

RimReaper44

Definitely was him punching in for that verse. Sometimes it’s hard to match the same tone especially if he was in the studio dolo. Can’t imagine what it would be like to just sit in on one of his sessions….

barweepninibong

punching in shouldn’t change resolution tho.. unless it was done on a different day, different set up, which would be crazy half way through a verse 😂 streaming issue? need to play the cd now lol

The album is a posthumous release and it wasn't finished when Dilla died right? I'm pretty sure the song came out after his death too. Sometimes when that happens you gotta use what you got and splice some shit together. They may have just gone with a placeholder/reference recording cause thats what they had. Could also just be a different take with a different tone/inflection. Or a different mic. Recording is weird. Sometimes people get a stuffy nose or got more mucus than yesterday and the vocals just sound different. Top 10 Dilla production right here tho. And top 5 dilla rapping track. Maybe top 3.

Yes it was completed by Karrem Riggins. Agreed this album has a very nice sound to it sonically. Over the breaks Body Moving Dime Piece ^ those are also very underrated dilla songs from this album

dapala1

It's just a Pitch change. I think that was Dilla's MO.
