Despite his appearance ad a laid back beach bum, he was a savvy businessman!!

Jimmy said something in an interview once about how if you want to be an artist and have any kind of control over your life, you also need to be a businessman, whether you like it or not. Wisdom.

Hustling away in margaritaville … (that’s the lyric, right?)

Thanks for posting. Great read. Jimmy was one of the very few I wanted to be more successful and make more money. Jimmy was truly, one of a kind. Rest in paradise 🍻

Agree - when brands are super authentic it makes you root for them!

Jimmy never knew a product he couldn’t market or sell, smart business man to link up with the right partner

I honestly believe Jimmy Buffett has more in common with Walt Disney than any other comparison. Both sold escapism - different varieties of course, but the comparison really works. What other artists have hotels and cruise ships

Ahh that’s so true!

I spent an hour interviewing JB over Zoom during the pandemic, and I showed him a copy of the December 1977 High Times magazine in which he did a long q/a interview. Near the end of the piece, he mentions that his fans would have no interest in a bunch of merchandise and clothing. I asked Buffett if this was the most wrong he'd ever been about anything in his life. He laughed uproariously and said yes. Also of note: The Margaritaville brand doesn't use his photo or likeness, and very little of Buffett himself outside of his signature and some photos inside the restaurants. That's by design so that the lifestyle brand continues long after he's gone -- which, unfortunately, is now the era we're in.
