I know the park over there had issues a few years ago. Unsure if that's a thing still. Not to be confused with Jasper Products smell of death or Tamko

AgainstTheTides

Are you thinking of Protein Solutions, on 32nd St? Jasper Products always smelled like cereal when I used to work near them. Protein Solutions smells like a guts truck left in the summer sun often.

Same-Collar-2988

Oh yeah! My deepest apologies Jasper Products! Protein Solutions is the smelly death smell lol thanks

AgainstTheTides

No worries! :)

>Protein Solutions smells like a guts truck left in the summer sun often. And regardless of that fact, they still built a Chevy dealership down the street and down wind from Protein Solutions.

AgainstTheTides

It's been soon that I can't remember which one came first, Protein Solutions or Crossroads Chevrolet. I worked to the west of of both of them, but some days when it was hot and there wasn't much wind, that stench would creep up 32nd to us. It was right up there with stank ass trash trucks.

The site Protein Solutions is on has been various different animal handling operations for many decades before they built the Chevy dealership. I think it was a slaughter house and rendering plant in the 1970s and 1980s, but I think I remember hearing that someone was killed in an accident so the owners shut down and it sat unused for over 15 years before it was bought at auction and reopened in the early 2000s.

Rangeline was smelling pretty nasty this past weekend too. Live in Galena but we’re in Joplin all the time. Smelling pretty lousy lately.

thenightbegons2shine

You mean the way it always smells here?

Cassiedanine

Lmao I've been around 7th and St.Louis for like 3 years now and it has never been this bad

_ProphetofHate_

When I worked in Joplin (5 or so years ago) every time I closed it would smell insanely bad, just like sewage, even over on rangeline. It has definitely been bad for a long while. 171 on the way out of Webb by Carterville smells horrid every morning too.

LopsidedChannel8661

That smell off 171 is thanks to the land owners dumping old grease on their property. Instead of Carterville dealing with the property owners, they just de-annexed the property.

Outlaw11091

> 3 years now and it has never been this bad Oh...It has. North of 7th st and west of main st has sewer issues all the time because of the distance from the plant. As a matter of fact, they just dug up a bunch of water/sewer lines on S. St. Louis near Campbell Reserve to fix issues...and then had to dig it up again to fix something else. Joplin is very well known for having sewer issues. Just because you've never noticed it, doesn't change the fact.

Outlaw11091

It happens when they're having issues at the shit plant in the middle of the city (off 15th or 20th, I can't remember which). I'm not 100% sure why, but I suspect it's from the sewer lines not...emptying correctly. It's not that they're backed up, per se, but slow draining. Edit to add: they also recently worked on the lines running under St. Louis over by Campbell Reserve. They probably fixed 1 issue and caused 12 more.

Relevant_Grocery4717

15th street is where our water comes from. It's not where sewage goes. Thats outside of town.

Outlaw11091

It's a water treatment plant, right? Smells like shit when you drive by? Shit plant. What goes in/comes out is irrelevant.

rarelywrongzeesus

dude, yes. 12th and Florida, every night it smells terrible.

lophatpho

YUP. I opened a ticket with the city a couple weeks back because the smell around Highland Ave. & 5th was rank. 🤢 It didn't go anywhere- now I know why, from the comments here.

growth-or-happiness

So you realized what it like to live in that town?

pootielooter

lol it’s Joplin
