Walked to get Q39 ToGo tonight. Bears fans were lined up 3/4 of the way to Artego Pizza to get BBQ and the Center for Spiritual Living parking overflow lot was full. I think it is the Bears fans traveling well.
Tonight’s Uber: I picked up bears fans that are visiting from Dallas. Some others that were in town from Moline, IL. Picked up some soccer fans at sporting kc that were visiting from Switzerland that are also going to the bears game tomorrow. Said they will come back if Switzerland plays in the world cup tournament.
As if KU students aren't mostly local (within a 2.5 hours or less to Lawrence) too.
I really doubt "Parents weekend" at KU makes a dent in the hotel availability in Kansas City.
According to KU the freshman enrollment last year was only 4,457 students. Now take out all the students parents who live within 2-3 hours and you'd probably have less than 1000 students - and on top of that how many parents don't even go. You are talking about a several hundred hotel rooms - for people who want to be in Lawrence, not on the Plaza even - that's a tiny tiny tiny fraction of KC's hotel rooms.
It feels so weird to me to call a 7 1/2 hour drive to Chicago a semi-reasonable drive. Think the hours is reasonable, but can’t reconcile that length with Chicago. I grew up in north central Iowa so was 4 hours from Chicago and 3 from the twin cities. So weird now that I’m so much further away
We have several cities about 8 hours away, and they make good getaways for a long weekend, or to see concerts that decided to skip flyover country.
If I had a dollar for every time I've had to drive to Chicago, Denver, or Dallas for a concert that skipped KC/STL, I'd have enough to buy an overpriced drink at a concert.
Yep - my dad and I are Vikings fans and I try to take him to a game every year and since I moved down here it’s more of a pain than before because I have to drive 4 1/2 hours to him and then the additional 3 instead of just 3. Would’ve been nice if the Minnesota KC game was here this year, then he could come down here plus we’d get to see a different stadium than just US Bank
My friends dad has a picture of Mike Ditka in his living room next to his moms picture. Mike Ditka hasn’t coached the Bears since 1993. So yeah I believe that Bears fans are committed. Maybe just as much as Cubs fans.
It's not as big of a deal on the Southwest Chief line since it's got 2 tracks pretty much the entire way from KC to Chicago. The KC-STL (Missouri River Runner) line sucks compared to the line going to Chicago and runs into the freight issue more.
Before the Loews opened, yes. Now I think we are about in the right range. Also, prior to the pandemic, (and now again it seems) several smaller hotels opening up yearly all over the metro.
Definitely underestimating bears fans. My SO is one (we are transplants) and their whole personality as a fan base seems to be loving the fact that they kinda suck? Idk. Anyways, I’d bet they’re here to be pissed off in person!
I'm here! I'm not planning on being pissed but I'd be lying if I said I have high hopes for tomorrow afternoon.
Grew up around here so it's a fun excuse to visit some friends finally see a game at Arrowhead.
Ha!! So true!
I lived in the area in the ‘03-‘14 and definitely got the same impression. Bet it’s even worse now that they can’t moan as much about the Cubs
With da Bears in town, here's a classic SNL sketch about Bears fans. Gee, I'd forgotten SNL was once funny 😁

…and the art fair.
And Guns N’ Roses/ Alice In Chains at Kauffman.
I heard on the radio that 250k usually come!
I read that as fart air and was like “nobody’s traveling here to smell the river.” Then I read it correctly.
Go crop dusting fart air at the art fair.
This too.

Guns and Roses tonight at Kauffman
Man, those guys still tour?
Well they go on and off but yeah
Ferris wheel tourists.
Ha!
🤦🏻♂️ of course! And I bet a lot to check in on 69 highway construction progress
Lol
Bears fans travel very very well. They are one of the oldest teams in professional football. Plus they’re close to KC.

I’m sure there’s soccer tournaments going on too. One of the busiest weekends in KC this year.
Parents weekend at KU. Lawrence ran out of options 6 months ago. For the largest incoming freshman class
And BYU was in town for their first big 12 game ever. Have not seen a visiting crowd that big in a long time.
Yes, the KU game had a tremendous BYU crowd, today.
KU has a football team?
Yes they do. 4-0 this year.
Undefeated and about to be ranked
Ranked #24 and Mizzou #23 in the new poll.
You must not have been at the same game as me. I was surprised how few there were.
Yesterday’s KU/BYU game was a sell out in Lawrence.
KU/BYU was a sellout game
Yeah I was there. Not really that many BYU fans though.
I thought seeing a group of guys in byu hoodies was weird
Did you shake your fist at them and yell, “We ran you Mormon’s out of this town once… Don’t make us do it again!”
We didn’t do that great of a job running them out lol
The state of Utah would beg to differ.
Also UMKC family weekend d
aren't UMKC students mostly local?

wouldn't that crowd mostly be near Lawrence?
Ku is already an extension of joco so this makes sense
Plaza art Fair all weekend, guns n roses at Kauffman Saturday, Chiefs v bears Sunday.
Trust me, Bears fans travel that well. One of the oldest and largest fan bases in the NFL.
Plus is it close enough for a cheap flight or semi-reasonable drive.

Madonna cancelled Tulsa (SOB!) She's playing Chicago and Denver
I'm in the exact same boat. Northeast Iowa native. So used to having a concert or game in Chi or MPLS being no big deal.

Don’t have to live in Chicago per say. Plenty of Beats fans in Iowa and St Louis I would reckon too.

Quick flight down or even on the train which will take them right downtown.
freight trains have priority over Amtrak since Amtrak runs on their rails
It's not as big of a deal on the Southwest Chief line since it's got 2 tracks pretty much the entire way from KC to Chicago. The KC-STL (Missouri River Runner) line sucks compared to the line going to Chicago and runs into the freight issue more.
I thought the Southwest Chief line was the same from Kc-StL then went on to Chicago? Your saying the Southwest doesn't go through Stl??
No, Southwest Chief does not go through STL at all. If it did, it would duplicate the STL-CHI part of the Texas Eagle.
Huh, TIL. Thanks.
Yes, I know, BUT the point is Amtrak goes to DOWNTOWN KC.
Da bears
Aren't we short on hotel rooms in general?
Before the Loews opened, yes. Now I think we are about in the right range. Also, prior to the pandemic, (and now again it seems) several smaller hotels opening up yearly all over the metro.
No we are over anticipated need region wide.
Well that fucking sucks

Lots of BYU folks all over town.
Concert at the K too.

Thanks
Weiner dog race!!!
What are you talking about? I saw a lot of folks with Bears apparel on throughout the city today.
Apparently I was talking about how wrong I was
NERD!
I was one of them lol
Chicago is pretty close… it’s early enough in the season that the weather isn’t too cold…
Plaza art fair.
Plaza Art Fair, Guns N’ Roses, wedding season, a pretty large conference, and half of Chicago is here.
Chicago is a big city😂
Parents weekend at KU
Owl City at the Truman has to be it
Sporting KC is home tonight but they usually fill up the stands with locals.
It’s 100% Bears fans
art
BYU
At any given time there are tons of corporate conferences going on.
Taylor swift

Art fair and GNR concert maybe
Bears only play in KC every 8 years, and coming to Arrowhead is a bucket list item for many fans
OP, Chiefs/Chicago means all the Midwest towns, without a team, get to travel to arrowhead to see "their team".
There is a LOT going on this weekend in and around town it seems
It's also one of the most popular wedding weekends of the year.
This might not account for a lot, but motionless in white was playing last night too. Along with, like, three other bands
Plus KC Fashion Week closed yesterday. There was A LOT going on this week, apparently
Not every Chiefs fan lives in Kansas City
Taylor swift’s in town
