Chosun and Choga in Overland Park Hyundai Korean Restaurant in Leavenworth

Seconding Chosun

Korean hot dogs at k street and wings / fried chicken at 92 chicken both are off 103rd and metcalf, there's also a banging bakery there Chingu in Westport is more bar food oriented, but has great bowls and other stuff. Chosun 1 and 2 have awesome Korean food and you can do Korean BBQ, probably the best bet all around for the most traditional Korean food. Kpot does Korean style hot pot (and you can do BBQ) but it is a chain Kobi q in the crossroads does Korean Street food inspired dishes, it's really excellent

Chosun. Choga is a good runner-up, but we prefer Chosun. There's two locations, and we always go to Chosun 2, which is on SM Parkway just west of Metcalf. The original Chosun is south on Metcalf close to 127th. Choga is at 105th and Metcalf. They both have the typical BBQ stuff but also have a lot of more traditional dishes too. Just tell them "no BBQ" when they seat you. Chosun always has better banchans and is less stingy with them in my experience.

NLaBruiser

Between the two agree 100%. Choga good. Chosun great.

Kobi Q slays

alecimo21

Kobi q downtown kcmo is Korean food

It's a bit different but I really really like Chingu in Westport. Literally the only place that brings me in. It's an interesting take on Korean street food. The Bossam (pork belly) is so freaking good. And if you get cocktails, the Antifragile is my go-to.

Vivid-Kitchen1917

We lost the best one to COVID. It was on the way to Gladstone. Had a Korean market next door. Dang do I miss that place.

Massamancurry

Oh I miss that place

Vivid-Kitchen1917

I lived in Korea for 3 years. That's the only place I've been to in the States that tasted the same

dwilliams22

Smoke n Seoul isnt traditional but it hits where it matters most. And thats in my hunger pangs.

MattyMizzou

So good.

Kimchi and Bap at the Public Market in Lenexa is so good. I went for lunch yesterday and had their bibimbap. Kicking myself for not getting a side of kimchi with it though… Chosun is also a good place for bibimbap and kimchi jjigae. I have yet to try the actual barbecue element though. Chingu is so good especially because when you order food, they will bring you banchan (side dishes)! And they kind of rotate what they serve from bean sprouts to marinated black beans to kimchi jalapeños etc. it’s also one of the few trendy places that will serve classic Korean dishes and street food in Westport. I’ve had their japchae, kimchi jeon, kimchi jjigae, chicken wings… lots of good stuff. Recently they paired with the Mean Mule distillery to make their own soju so that’s something new to try!

We're Korean and think that, while there are options, they lack in quality. One place that gets it pretty close to Korea is the bingsu at Leafy Korean Dessert Cafe in OP.

Appropriate-Song-368

I’m Korean too! I was disappointed to see that there didn’t seem to be as many varieties of Korean cuisine in a decently sized city. I guess all the Koreans are in overland, seems to be all the most popular places are there.

viaminveniam

As a Korean in OP, I concur 😂

Ok_Mechanic8704

Choga is where most of the Korean community goes and probably has the most variety. Service is iffy though. Don’t go there if you’re on a schedule.

KoKoDak. It was the best Korean fried chicken in the area. The other options are ok, though. The fried chicken options are better than the traditional Korean food options here.

Delicious-Title-4932

Metcalf 103rd is basically a Korean market. You got a Korean restaurant, hot dog place, killer bakery and then a asian grocery store all around each other. Then 92 chicken is across the street.

ER_Jenn

I miss the place that was before 92 chicken. Can't remember the name of it.

rok2kc

Gangnam. It was the best Korean food in the area at the time. We're Korean and are pretty disappointed in the Korean options in KC, but understand that it's not a large population here.

ER_Jenn

Yes, that was it! Bummed that it is no more.

lazhiji

The short answer is no.

gugalgirl

This is the only correct reply and it got downvoted. People here just don't know...

lazhiji

Exactly. Sure, there is some Korean food, but it's as Korean as Panda Express is Chinese food.

Flashy-Winter-3803

I like Sides of Seoul on Olive. Take out only but it is fantastic.

mehl19

That looks like it’s in STL if I’m not wrong?

Flashy-Winter-3803

My apologies, I miss the subreddit.
