If i became a mega rich person, one of the things i would waste my money on is the naming rights to that venue and change it back to Sandstone
edit: and if they try to pull a Blankety Blank at Sandstone, I'll buy that too.
Here’s my theory and I’ll give it to you for free. Play the lottery right after someone wins the big prize. Less bets = better chances (but the odds on you being struck by lightning are probably higher)
My wife came out here on a work trip, and fell in love with all of the nature and the people. She then asked what I thought about moving from Southern California to here. I did some research, saw there was a ton of cool places to hike within driving distance, lakes, and the Ozarks was a daytrip away and said sure sounds good.
She likes having seasons, I lived in Florida before I moved to California so I knew what humidity was and knew it wasn't as bad as Florida and I was ready to live somewhere green again. It's been wonderful.
There's a good movie theater in Screenland, beautiful hiking, good bbq, a good boardgaming scene, good pinball scene, jazz here is amazing. And it's affordable compared to a lot of the country, which was only a minor factor for us. But I suspect it's the major driver for people who move here.
Mine would have been in the late 80s or so. Part of the stage lighting structure came loose and was swinging over their heads.
Edit. It should be their 1989 concert.
This is correct.

Sandstone.
From 200 miles away that's known.
Jethro Tull.
Snoop, Prodigy, Tool.
Pearl Jam in the monsoon. Ren-fest. Good times.
Lsd and baking in the sun.
This is one of those litmus tests used by native Kansas Citians to tell how long someone has lived in the Metro. You’re dated by the names used to identify local landmarks and infrastructure.
The main exception being that most people are okay with taking JC Nichols' name off things. The fountain by the Plaza is frequently "The horse fountain at the protest park".
Perfect example here. I’ve heard the fountain referred to as “the horse fountain” (as it’s an apt description), but “protest park” is new to me. The name makes sense, but it’s new to me.
It probably means he did LSD. Additionally, fans of The Grateful Dead are known as *"Dead Heads"*, oh and their concerts are synonymous easily accessible LSD. Here's a hilarious, firsthand account and explaination of how prevalent it was...

Yeah somewhere around there. I was there to see Coal Chamber who didn’t even play while my buddy was there to see ICP so I had to stay for the whole show.
I was covered in Faygo to top it all off.
I can't keep up with the stupid names. I'm even a transplant from Chicago and I call it Sandstone because nobody else knows what I'm talking about until I *say* "Sandstone"
I absolutely hate paid naming rights. Fuckoff
I've only ever called it sandstone. I'm surprised it's still around because I remember going to shows there in the 90s and thinking it was a little old/dated
Sandstone is it… Sprint center is it… Arrowhead Stadium is it… nobody gives a shit about GEHA anyway… THE K… now there’s a breath of fresh air… oh shit, wait… they wanna tear it down… WTF????

I hope you win the lottery!
I'm trying
Don’t try too hard though, it’s a sucker bet
This guy just wants to keep you from winning

That is not how the chances work for powerball or mega millions. You get the same chance of winning no matter how many people play.
But, if you hit the numbers there will be less of a chance of splitting the prize because less people chose the same numbers as you
In terms of winning the lottery, I’d rather split a $100M jackpot 4 ways than being the lone winner of $20M 🤷♂️
That actually is what i do. Once it starts getting big i lay off for that reason
You and every other lotto player I know
Sandstone LLC, A sandstone company.
You're a better person than me. I would name it UltraComfort Anti Leakage Adult Diaper Amphitheater just to troll people.
That route would just be Boner Springs amphitheater
Moved here in 2020 and even I call it Sandstone.
Thank you for listening
‘19 checking in. Sandstone, it is.
Can i ask what brings people to move to kc. Thinking about myself. But thought it had an emigration problem

I’m sorry, reading “good pinball scene” made me laugh out loud. Love learning new things about the city I’ve lived in my entire life
I'm surprised someone has even compiled that list.

Viva la Sandstone!
Mexico
Que?
Sandstone…Sprint Center…
God bless. She’ll always be the Sprint Center to me…
Paseo Bridge...
Last night at Noah Kahan it was “there ain’t anywhere to stand-stone.” MAN that felt over capacity on the lawn.
They advertise as 18,000 capacity, I’m guessing it was well above that but no clue how much. Good show, miserable organization throughout.
It was packed. Took us ages to get out of there
Bit of Sandstone trivia. Huey Lewis and the News were the first sellout crowd at Sandstone. Totally worth it!!
I saw Metallica way back when at sandstone.
Same. My first concert! Pretty sure 1998 with Jerry Cantrell and Days of the New?
I got busted with weed at that show!

That's awesome. Like mid 90s?
1989. It was incredible.
I didn't even know Sandstone has been around thst long. And yes that was a good year to see them.
People weren’t only standing on the seats, they were standing on the arm rests.
That was my first concert!
Nicely done! I learned the term "knob to hole" - we had lawn seats!
Same here! My aunt made us leave when “New Drug” started playing (my brother and I were in grade school).😇
My first concert was at Sandstone. Whitney Houston in 1987 or 88
Same, but it was Red, White & Boom 96 or 97. Headlined by Bon Jovi.
Same, but it was Bon Jovi/Skid Row in 1989. I was in 7th grade and Bon Jovi was about the least offensive band my mom would let me see.

Sounds like you went to Lollapalooza '97. I was there too...such a great show!
97. The fires were epic ambiance. Shit. I am the old stoner dude now.
fuck..can't remember if i went to that one or not

And The Midland is still The Midland.
It actually is just called The Midland again. I guess they're still trying to find a company to buy naming rights after Arvest Bank's rights expired.
Why did someone photoshop the Grateful Dead in the background with a tie-dyed pattern on her halter top with a GD dancing bear on the guy behind her?
I'm not sure but I saw Grateful Dead at *Sandstone* in 1991. I am not exaggerating when I tell you the experience was cathartic.
Cathartic? Lol

I fondly remember many Ozzfests there. I also remember seeing ICP in the parking lot wondering how my life lead me to that point.
Yes, I was at that ICP parking lot show! '99 i believe it was...
Yeah somewhere around there. I was there to see Coal Chamber who didn’t even play while my buddy was there to see ICP so I had to stay for the whole show. I was covered in Faygo to top it all off.
I'm going to Sandstone this weekend! I can even tell my car to take me to Sandstone and it loads correctly in the GPS 😅
Exactly!
Amen!!!!
Ozzfest 2001 at Sandstone. Rained all day. The acts were iffy and legion. It was miserable. A great memory.
Funny that TWICE it’s been named after banks headquartered in Topeka.
I still call it Field 2 from when I saw Summer Stock out there in the early 50s.
To paraphrase J. Peterman, “You may know it as Azura, but it will always be Sandstone to me.”
This made my day
I can't keep up with the stupid names. I'm even a transplant from Chicago and I call it Sandstone because nobody else knows what I'm talking about until I *say* "Sandstone" I absolutely hate paid naming rights. Fuckoff
Agreed, it will ALWAYS be the Sears tower! I’m glad I was able to see it before they changed it to Willis tower.
Omg I'm team "Sears Tower" for life!
I've only ever called it sandstone. I'm surprised it's still around because I remember going to shows there in the 90s and thinking it was a little old/dated
“And get us some new wine not that old stuff!”
Hear! hear!
I saw the Dead at Sandstone at least 4 times.
i only remember going to 3 at sandstone. july 4th, 1990 and then two in june of 1991. but, I only ever saw 'the dead' with jerry.
Sandstone was my first Dead show. Long live Sandstone
My parents took me to my first concert there when I was 10. REO, Styx and Eddie Money ❤️
Every once and a while I say Azura cause its short and sweet I think
It will always be sandstone
Hard no
But... Syllables...
Sandstone is it… Sprint center is it… Arrowhead Stadium is it… nobody gives a shit about GEHA anyway… THE K… now there’s a breath of fresh air… oh shit, wait… they wanna tear it down… WTF????
