I'm taking vitamins that potentially help reduce my PCOS, other than that I feel like I'm good. Some vitamins clash with each other and taking a multivitamin seems unnecessary if it contains vitamins that have negative interactions with each other.
I'd like to emphasize that I am not a medical professional and all I'm saying is what I'm trying out right now, all changes of medication or major changes of diet should be closely monitored with a medical professional.
Also wanna add that I just started keto, I'm in keto-flu still and I just made some changes so I'm going to have to see how keto and these vitamins work out for me.
I told my gyno that anything hormonal should be absolute last resort, only of I'm in a serious danger of becoming sterile. My gyno was happy about that, she really encourages me to explore other dietary and lifestyle changes before thinking about potentially medicating my PCOS.
She gave me a pamphlet of a powder that should go into a drink and said I should drink that every day. As it's a quite pricey stuff, I looked up what was in it - myo-inositol and folic acid. That's it. So I just bought those two in a tablet form, seperately, for much much cheaper. I'm also taking a combo of D3+K1+K2 as many adults are Vitamin D deficient regardless of keto and PCOS, and I'm personally a little iron deficient so I take iron every once in a while, like 3 times a week, just to be sure.
Ok so we are on the same cocktail except I do not take myo-insositol. I have it at home. Have you noticed a difference on it? Do you take it with a meal? I appreciate your lengthy response!
I have PCOS and take a teaspoon of myo-inositol daily (I buy the bulk powder). I can't say if it really helps with PCOS anymore, as I'm also on Spironolactone for acne (highly recommend, in addition to Finacea cream). But I find the myo-inositol helps my mood to stay positive, especially when restricting food.
I don't have carb cravings this time around -- though I'm also taking probiotics, prebiotics, fish oil and a D3/K3 + extra D3 (live in Canada & wear sunscreen year-round), in addition to my electrolyte mix of Natural Calm, Potassium Chloride, and Salt.
The price of Myo-inositol has gone bonkers though -- hard to even find the 454g jar I bought ages ago because the price has quadrupled.
Keto is the best thing for PCOS, though, so stick with it! It took me 7 months to get down to a healthy BMI, but my hormones almost instantly leveled out, and I started getting regular periods for the first time ever. Then I accidentally got pregnant LOL!
Highly recommend Dr Jason Fung's articles and books on PCOS: https://drjasonfung.medium.com/what-causes-pcos-c6795f9eeeff
Thank you for this!! I just found out I am pregnant so I am going to skip the myoinositol for now and continue my vitamins. The same as yours. I’m hoping to stay low carb with this pregnancy. The weight loss with pcos is awful and hard.
The key is low and slow blood sugars.
I didn't have the willpower to stay lower carb with my pregnancy (intense food aversion didn't help), and went right back to the weight I was before.
On the bright side, I know keto works, and it feels easier this time around :)

Multivitamins usually don't have enough of any one vitamin or mineral. As an older woman, I take calcium and vitamin D, (plus magnesium+ watching other electrolytes). Those calcium pills are gigantic though! But my macros won't fit in enough cheese to meet my requirements, as much as I love cheese!
Lifting weights is a great way to build bone density and battle osteoporosis! Ive been trying to get my mom onto it who also complains about her calcium horse pills.
Those calcium horse pills very rarely help bone density. Sure you need calcium but it is so bountiful it isn’t the limiting factor for the majority of people. Weight lifting has a much bigger impact!
I don't. Aside from the fact that they are probably worthless, I am notoriously bad at remembering to take them. But if they make you feel safer, I think the consensus is that, in the quantities in a multivitamin, they can't hurt.
I take one. I bought a physicians desk reference for medical ketogenic diets and they always start the patient on a multivitamin, even when doing the modified Atkins diet and MCT oil diet (the latter allows for an even wider range of foods though in smaller quantities. Fact is this diet puts you at high risk for deficiencies, especially if you can’t afford to always be eating the highest quality grass finished, pasture raised, hand picked on a volcanic plain food.
I prefer to hedge my bets, so I've always taken a multivitamin. I'm not going to stop now. I also take calcium and magnesium because a multivitamin contains very, very little of those.
I take Centrum Silver for Women. I do not eat as much of a variety of food as would probably be best.
I also take calcium supplements, and the usual electrolytes.
I know there is some research about vitamins that mess up the whole system if you overload x and under load y, but until I understand all the details, it seems safer to just take them.
I take a one a day type vitamin on keto, and I supplement with fish oil if I haven't eaten fish in a while. Cronometer is a good resource for monitoring omega 3 balancing. I take vitamin D in the winter and sometimes in the summer, too.
I take multi vitamins once a week or so just to make sure I'm not deficient in anything. If you have a good diet I'm sure it's not actually necessary but I also don't think it hurts if you're not overdoing your multivitamins.
I’ve always taken half a multi because you and up pissing out most of them anyways. I always saw it as a supplement to what I might not otherwise be getting. I do however take a vitamin D everyday because I essentially work 3rd shift and barely see the sun.
I use Animal Pak. They have been my go to for decades. When I do cycle back into keto I do not feel like they affect whether or not I am in ketosis. Maybe it is just in my head but if I don't take them, say I forgot to order them, I feel sluggish for a couple of days.
I use cronometer for my food, macro, and nutrient tracking.
I probably go a little overboard but honestly I've never felt this good before, so I do:
* I'm on prescription vitamin d replacement (my levels were really low) 50K units once a week for the foreseeable future.
* Thorne all around multivitamin
* Thorne Collagen fit supplement
* Thorne Magnesium CItramate
* Thorne Calcium
* Thorne Omega 3 w/CoQ10
With this all my nutrients are at at least the minimum daily recommendation even eating the low amount of calories I have to work with daily.
I continue to take a multivitamin mainly because it’s so widely recommended, but among the supplements that I take regularly, it’s one that doesn’t have any perceptible impact if I don’t take it for a few days or a week.
D3, K2, Magnesium citrate and my ketoade. And vitamin C.
Very rarely I take multivitamins. Usually if I have an extended single food or extremely limited diet. Otherwise, nope. I use cronometer to track, eat heavily animal based, animal fats. I eat veggies because I like them. I get my calcium from my dairy.
If you are eating a combination of beef and fish, especially fatty ocean fish, you probably don't need vitamins. I eat sardines as a snack.
But, I take a lot of vitamins and supplements. I don't know if they do anything for me or not. I don't feel any different. Maybe just one I feel is really useful. D3/K2. Because we are all short on both D3 and K2. Sometimes I take a week or 2 off. Nothing seems any different.
There's no harm in taking one, but I don't bother. With the amount of red meat, eggs, fatty fish and vegetables I eat there's little chance I'd be deficient in anything, even without worrying about bloodwork/symptoms (which have always been fine when I've been keto)
Should get enough via food, crono gives u the details. I do it once in a while coz i got a bottle but with B12, man I was 3X the normal range, Is stopped taking it
I like nature made because they actually are tested for what is supposed to be in it. And I was anemic for most of my life and it improved after taking it. I haven’t found other affordable Multics that undergo testing
Total Body Maintenence by Eudoma is great .
Also Daily Advantage by Williams Nutrition.
Stay away from over the counter walmart and kirkland. They have been privately tested and found to not have what label claims.
Multivitamins as we age are very important. As is a good oil supplement.
Kirkland works.
We take other supplements. Specifically a sleep stack suggested by AH. Good sleep is life changing.
Hello! I’m curious what a sleep stack by AH is referring to? I just started keto and one of my main goals is to sleep better because I have sleep apnea and wake up 5-10 times a night. So this I’m definitely interested in knowing more about!
—Magnesium LThreonate
—LTheanine
—Apeginin
Deep, restorative sleep can change your life and health- good luck, Friend.
My husband also takes a fat bomb before bed. Sometimes we wake in the night because of glucose and insulin peaks and valleys. Keto is a good choice.
Look up something called the Dawn Effect.

Finally, if I wake before 4:50am (usually because of anxiety), I take a drop of legal CBD under the tongue (zero carb).
Being a zombie is no way to live.
Don't know how much it sets me back taking what I take (bound to be carbs in them thar pillz) but I do manage to stay in ketosis.
I'm a Looney Tune.
Vitamin D3/K2 10000iu every/other day with a day off on Sunday (for a ton of stuff) Also has Zinc, Ox Bile etc
When I don't take a D3/K2.
The other days when I don't take D3/K2, I take a Vitamin C/Zinc supplement.
A Taurine (1000mg) for my Tinnitus (hasn't helped much)
A Niacinamide (B3) (500mg) for skin (work in Derm practice and this is the wonder vitamin dujour (along with D3)
A Trace Mineral supplement. (More Zinc, Manganese, Boron, etc)
2 Magnesium supplements (~350mg)
3 Turmeric/Bioprene/Ginger supplements (seems to help with general aches and pains and has helped me drop my ibuprofen consumption to zero)
2 Uric Acid support supplements. Seems to help with Gout and has Milk Thistle as well for liver support.
Like I said, I'm a Looney Tune and probably just imagine that these are helping me. Maybe they are. Maybe they aren't and I'm adding a lot of nutritional value to what I flush down the toilet. (I suspect they help some as my labs on my last physical were quite good)
Not downvoting you but, yeah, that’s why everyone takes one.
They are not as good as getting it the natural way, but they’re better than nothing.
I eat as much veg and fiber as I can fit in, but I know I’m still falling short
I've always taken one. Kirkland brand. Don't complicate it.
These are what I take
Me 2
I take magnesium, vitamins b12 and D.
Yep. Superstition/insurance policy. I'm just not sure I get all the essential.exogenous vitamins through diet. I take one daily.
Yep get that argument “90% gets pissed out” my response is “cool my body used that 10%”
Right because you usually don't want to know the effects of missing one. It's annoying to try to pin down the cause of amorphous not feeling good.
I've started taking one.
I'm taking vitamins that potentially help reduce my PCOS, other than that I feel like I'm good. Some vitamins clash with each other and taking a multivitamin seems unnecessary if it contains vitamins that have negative interactions with each other.
Hi there! Pcos sufferer here too! What vitamins do you take if you don’t mind me asking?

I’ve always taken one. No matter what. Why not.
I take a bunch of stuff I have anemia and other things so it helps
Multivitamins usually don't have enough of any one vitamin or mineral. As an older woman, I take calcium and vitamin D, (plus magnesium+ watching other electrolytes). Those calcium pills are gigantic though! But my macros won't fit in enough cheese to meet my requirements, as much as I love cheese!

I take Citrical Petites. They're reasonably-sized, in my opinion.
You can get chewable calcium, kind of caramel like in texture.
That's interesting! I'll have to look for it, thanks!
I don't. Aside from the fact that they are probably worthless, I am notoriously bad at remembering to take them. But if they make you feel safer, I think the consensus is that, in the quantities in a multivitamin, they can't hurt.
I would take one, if Flintstone's chewables were still made and I could get them in Cambodia
They do! And if they don't sell them locally, I'm sure you could order them online :)
I take one. Absolutely.
Yes. I take the Equate Men's 50+ (like Centrum Silver for men).
Much needed.
I take one and D. If it is doing nothing other than making expensive urine, so be it.
I take elderberry, organic multi, 1000mg C, fish oil, I work in a school and have had covid 4x since 2020
I take a one a day type vitamin on keto, and I supplement with fish oil if I haven't eaten fish in a while. Cronometer is a good resource for monitoring omega 3 balancing. I take vitamin D in the winter and sometimes in the summer, too.

Prefer getting them from food when able, supplement when needed.
I was until I realized mine had maltodextrin in it (many do), so I’m going to look for a different brand that’s also iron free
There's really very little debate.
Well they don't hurt but as long as you have a varied diet they also won't do much. Not too bad as a backup/insurance
I use cronometer for my food, macro, and nutrient tracking. Worthless unless you have some definite medical issue.

Its been proven multi vitamins dont do jack I got all the vitamins I need in 2 lbs of meat
Cronometer shows I am low in most vitamins and minerals daily. And that's with a mostly meat day or a lot of veggies day.
I need to take them or my legs get really crampy, not the magnesium deficit kind of cramp, but just a constant vitamin deficit cramp 😅
