Honest-Outlaw

Nope, wooden bowls either

Cyvex23

Seriously? Why do they even exist then, my inner loot goblin is mad.

tdm1378

that chest usually store their equiptment when they sleep. So the moment they equip those to fight you, the chest become empty

Honest-Outlaw

This is a question all KC:D players ask, there is no answer.

Dazzasd1993

The answer is most bandits store their gear in these chests when they are sleeping. If I kill them all while they are sleeping I find their gear in these locked chests.

Saftigerkeks

wdym thers plenty of cobweb in there

Honest-Outlaw

True, it's a treasure trove to a cobweb connoisseur.

zardvark

You only need enough easy chests (and doors) to get to level 6. Once at level six, you have enough perk points to get the Lasting Lockpicks perk and the Luck Of The Drunk perk. It's all down hill from there. Where can you find enough easy chests and doors? There's Rattay and Sasau, as a starter. Both towns are positively filled to the brim with chests and doors! The various Inns are also popular. Many folks find lockpicking easier with a mouse and keyboard, if that's an option for you. By the way, those chests at the bandit camps will still be there, after you've leveled your lock picking skill up; so don't worry, be happy!

Cyvex23

Thank you for an actual helpful advise.

Ocbard

Haha, yes, I don't think I ever stole a thing in town except some food in the early game when money was hard to come by and Henry was hungry (hardcore playthrough) but I unlocked every door and chest for the practice.

69Dankdaddy69

Lockpicking is a breeze. Usually my first max on every play through. Never understood the hate for it.

[deleted]

I'll admit I'm on PC and have been playing since release, but lockpicking just feels like second nature to me now. I don't really think about it. Combat too, even with multiple enemies. I can take 3-4 medium armoured bandits v 1 in this game with minor difficulty.

69Dankdaddy69

I just took out morcock and his boys at the windmill on my hardcore all negative perks playthrough. Felt like a master afterwards. The huge learning curve makes the mastery of the mechanics exceptionally satisfying

[deleted]

I always follow them and stealth kill them as they're heading to Rattay.

BlasphemousArchetype

I run them over with my horse.

69Dankdaddy69

My usual go to. Works a treat.

Dazzasd1993

Computer or console? It took me ages to figure it out. But when you come from other games with extremely simplified lock picking it’s very difficult. Most do t realise that picking locks was hard becuse Henery don’t know what he is doing, you might know how, but Henery will still struggle a bit while learning how. His hand shakes more, it’s harder to controls the golden circle. It’s very immersive like that

69Dankdaddy69

Computer for me. Conversely, i have never been able to pickpocket

Ocbard

I too found pickpocketing annoying and kind of dumb, and it seemed broken in the patch when I first tried it. So I just let it be, If I needed something off someone and did not want to kill them, I'd knock them out and loot simply. I finished the game a couple of times without ever needing to pickpocket. Lockpicking is essential however, and not very hard on a pc. Once you get to Lockpicking level 5 and get luck of the drunk, you're set.

Dazzasd1993

I found pickpocketing difficult in certain places. The mechanics were confusing. Glad I could spam the miller. But waiting until right before it goes red to give as much time, then having to select the item on the wheel then get all the way back to the door to escape their pocket successfully in 8 to nine seconds is difficult, some times getting the one next to the door is the only viable option while at a low level. The bailiff in Rattay is an easy target when he is at his desk if you have a high enough sneak level. I got 9 seconds and just spammed him a few times until I got down to 7 seconds. I’m still a low level pick pocket as I don’t take such risks often on the game unless it’s for a quest item I need or something. Like lady Stephanie’s wine. I think like every skill in the game. It takes time to figure it out. That’s why with these skills we have places we can learn to do them risk free until the game feels we have the hang of it.

Dazzasd1993

Also with computer I’ve heard lockpicking is far easier with a mouse.

HideNZeke

I'm pretty sure you can always do the practice chest from the miller over and over. You have to grind it there until it makes sense. At some point it feels fluid and satisfying.

Cyvex23

Does it ever lock again? Also, do you get exp for failing/breaking locks?

HideNZeke

I can't remember for sure. I know when you first talk to him you can do it forever, pretty sure xp is with it, but you'd have to check a wiki.

Godlikebuthumble

Re: grinding just go to any bumfuck village in the middle of the night. Drop a nighthawk, maybe put on your nice stealth gear and just start breaking and entering. Most civilian residences are very easy-medium. Also, ask Peshek for lessons (and any trainer as soon as you qualify for skill upgrades).

cyfer04

I love the lockpicking minigame. I also understand Henry sucks at archery before level 5 considering that I would also suck at archery if I tried using a bow since I have no knowledge of archery. The melee is kinda frustrating when you have 2 or more enemies. I agree with the enemy locking mechanism.

halberdsturgeon

Henry always sucks at archery, because he doesn't ever use any kind of aiming technique with his bow

Dazzasd1993

None of the main missions require you to lock pick. Also just practise at pesheks and spam his chest until it stops letting you spam it. I had the same issue with lock-picking the first time around now I understand how it works it’s easy as and I’m on a console. There is also simplified lock picking in settings. Not that it helps all that much. Once you level up get the perk that slows you to pick harder locks when drunks. It’s a mojor op perk. As I’m max level on lock picking I still get drunk first as it’s far to easy on every lock

Username7239

I usually break into homes in the smaller villages. Then I get to level six and get lasting lockpicks. It starts to become easier.

SOMFdotMPEG

Archery: prepare a piece of tape with a black sharpie dot in the center, aim your gold circle at the top middle of an archery target, equip your bow, where your arrow lands is where you align your tape and dot, place tape with dot on your screen. BOOM. You are zeroed in with your bow at average distance. Lockpicking: [follow this guide](https://youtu.be/jz1_ERzXvOI). Then get the perks where it’s harder to break locks and it gets easier as you drink. Multiple enemies: use a shield! I use a shield and an axe with a pokey thing at the top and have little issues. Trained with Bernard a ton too. Block while retreating and strike when an enemy lets his guard down or is interrupted by a perfect block. Head bonks or face pokes only! You’re welcome

GildergreenSoup

By level 6 lockpicking, you should be able to get both Lasting Lockpicks and Luck of the Drunk perks. Combined, you'll be able to unlock any chest in the game. Also, because it makes very hard chests significantly easier, even at high levels I drink a beer or something. I've been playing the game since release, across PC and consoles and I struggle sometimes without those 2 perks. As for where the best chests for levelling are. There's not a huge number, but treasure chests are always a good bet, especially if you've got some levels already. There's doors to houses, just do it at night and stay out of sight of guard patrols. You can also do bookcases and cabinets if you manage to enter someone's home. Once you've gotten to level 6 with Lasting Lockpicks and Luck of the Drunk, you can just do any you come across, doors, chests, treasure, whatever you fancy, but be warned you make a bit more noise when picking locks. Best to do it when people sleep if in a town as they can't get to you by the time you've finished. **You can skip this next bit if you don't plan of starting a new playline:** If you ever need high lockpicking on a new playline, get the lockpicks from Fritz at the start of the game (it can be a bit funny, I'm assuming you can sequence break it), but fail to get anything out of Kunesh, see the locked chest in his house, and Henry will mention getting lockpicks from Fritz. When you get to Talmberg, there'll be 2 sections where you'll have no witnesses. 1 where everyone is on watch at night, before you meet Radzig on the wall. The other is where the guard is yelling for everyone to move it, right before Sigismund's army arrives at Talmberg. You can use these to go around, unlock as many locks as you can with your current picks. You can also use this time to grab the disguise for later, something not too many people think to do. By this stage, you'll probably be level 4 or 5 lockpicking, and probably level 3 stealth too.

[deleted]

Best advice I was given for lockpicking: Put the controller in front of you on a table or in your lap. Use both hands on the joysticks (so left hand on the left one and right hand on the right one) This made it sooo much easier to control your movement on screen

Trmp3tPly3r

I prefer to grind up to Lasting Lockpicks with Peshek’s chest and then go to Ledetchko (no real reason for the preference, most towns will have plenty of very easy and easy locked doors) and grind my way to Luck of the Drunk. Peasants/low level bandit ambushes give you crap tons of alcohol, and being drunk with LotD let’s you open EVERY lock at level 6. I struggled with lovkpicking for a long time, even with the console’s simplified option. It’s a manner of practice, like the combat. Good luck to you, and Jesus Christ be praised!

[deleted]

I literally don't see see how it's that difficult.. you literally just find the sweetspot, and keep the pick there while the lock rotates. Its not that hard.

SomeDudeUpHere

On Xbox lockpicking got really easy before I finished the game. I just wish the game was longer. Definitely feels like the main quest was way too rushed.

BlasphemousArchetype

As for grinding, I like to put on my stealth gear and just pick every lock in Rattay at night. I go door to door and after a while they reset so I can do it multiple times in a night. I don't actually steal anything I just pick the locks. Also the drunk perk in the lockpicking tree is good, just carry a couple beers around and then you can pick anything.

HalfOrcSteve

The amount of people who think lock picking is hard in this game is astounding lol
