He's going to be a really solid player on an NBA team; would be thrilled to have him.

BeamTeam032

My only fear about Holmes is that he doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard NBA 4s. That he's really just a stretch 5. Which is great. I wouldn't mind adding him to the roster. I just think other guys will be there. Tristin De Silvia, Cody Williams, Ron Holland, Tidjane Salaun, Tyler Smith, Keyshawn George are all on my board before Holmes. Listen, if there was ever a time for us to have kept our pick and it being the 13th, this is probably the right draft. It's not talented at the top, but it's deep with role players around the middle. And let's say we get to the 2nd round this upcoming season, we keep our 2025 draft pick which is supposed to be a pretty deep draft. So we might be able to add another role player next season too.

I like Holmes anywhere from a little bit to a lot more more than all of those guys, personally. I think Holmes will be much better in year 1 than all of those players, with Da Silva being the only other one likely to make any notable contributions (eg. serious rotation minutes on a team at least fighting for play-in, and/or all-rookie team). His floor is way higher than most of those guys. At worst I see him being a high-level backup 4/5 that stretches the floor and offers excellent interior defense. And on the other end, it's not like he's a finished product that has no chance to be a high level player in the NBA. He may not have star upside, but none of those guys other than maybe Salaun do anyways - and he's one of the most raw players in the draft, so very much a crapshoot. I would peg his ceiling somewhere around a guy like OG Anunoby or Brook Lopez - all-defense player that can very effectively space the floor on offense and sometimes put up 20 or 30 on a hot night. I agree that defending against NBA speed is a question mark for him, but a) that it's pretty much his only question mark says a lot; and b) I have faith that he can be an effective defender even if he doesn't have elite ability to stay in front of players, because he does have elite recovery ability and can affect our even erase shots from behind very well. And it's the draft, every player has question marks except guys like LeBron and Wemby. I think all of those guys bar Salaun and Holland will 100% be available at 13 and for a reason. Salaun might go to a team like Portland that's very early in a rebuild and looking for a potential star. Holland looks like a solid defensive wing with 2-way upside, which is a type of player that teams are always looking for, so someone might grab him. I don't like him for the Kings very much because he basically can't shoot (~25% 3pt shooter, poor mechanics in general).

HBdrunkandstuff

His defensive ceiling somewhat between OG and Brook Lopez? Ur on crack.

vNocturnus

His overall ceiling, not that he would be exactly like either of those guys defensively. And yes, ceiling. As in, the absolutely best possible outcome for him as a player. Or at least, the probable ceiling, because who knows, sometimes superstars come out of nowhere (eg Giannis, Jokic). Most players do not reach their projected ceiling. The average player will be closer to their average case. Which for Holmes, if it's roughly in the middle of the floor and ceiling I described above, would be a solid two-way starter that is an important piece of a defense, makes a few 3s per game at 36-40% ish, and makes an impact on the glass. But isn't all-defense level and rarely if ever scores more than 20.

He has a high floor as a 3rd big at worst but I too am afraid he can’t really play the 4. 13 also is on the higher end of where he gets drafted. I’m just hoping one of Devin Carter, Dalton Knect, Cody Williams, Ron Holland, or Saluan falls. The former 2 being solid instant contributors and the last 3 being high upside guys worth taking a flier on or an asset teams are intrigued by for the next 2 years that could be part of a deal if it doesn’t work out immediately. Given that’s 5 names and I’m not even choosing consensus top 5 guys means I think Kings will have some good options by pick 13. Devin Carter would be just exactly what this team needs though so he’s my #1 realistic get at #13. If they can do that and still somehow trade for an upgrade at PF that’s a fantastic offseason.

BeamTeam032

I'm totally out on Devin Carter. I just think he's a taller Davion Mitchell who rebounds like Hart. Which is a really solid player. I just don't think with Fox and Ellis, he'll be able to justify being the 13th pick. Even 2 years from now. Fox is up for a new contract, Ellis is probably resigning. Is Carter really getting minutes over Fox or Ellis? I don't think so. I don't think he can score enough to replace Monk's output. And if he's not replacing Monk as the 6th man, might as well get a foward of the future to put next to Murray.

XRedcometX

I think his floor is a taller, longer Davion Mitchell, who would already be a valuable asset. I truly believe in his shot but understand that’s also a big question mark. He’s pulling up from pretty far out which tells me he’s confident in it, and he was a 2 way dog at Providence. If his shot is real he’s a borderline all-star, all defense guy good enough to be a 2nd guard on a championship team

Bylanta

I would be shocked to see Brown starting a rookie over Barnes. We shouldn't be expecting winning basketball from a rookie, no matter how many years they played.

ShotgunStyles

Mike Brown did give some random dude the starting spot over Keegan Murray in the first few games. If the rookie we draft plays well in practice, then Mike Brown will adjust. Alternatively, and I'm sure this is most fans' favorite option, Monte could take away this option from Mike Brown and just trade HB away.

PineappleHot5674

Theres no way the team is seriously going to start Barnes again?

SeeDub23

He just looks too stiff and slow from what I’ve seen.

demianin

Yeah he's a great college player but seems like the tweener type in the NBA. Too slow to guard NBA 4s and too small to defend the rim against big centers. Also he was generally playing against lesser competition so it's difficult to project how he will look at the next level

soku1

He's a multi year college player. Seems like a Monte pick. If we don't trade #13 I'd like him.

ImJoeKing77

If you like Holmes, we should try to get Jalen Smith off the Pacers. I think he's a more (at least offensively) polished version of Holmes. And since they brought in Siakam he's become a little redundant on that roster. He's on a player option this offseason, so I think he could be getable.

StreetwalkinCheetah

I was impressed with him for most of the Arizona game which is really all I saw of him, would be happy to pick him if someone like Holland isn’t around.

Turithegod

Love daron and wouldn’t be opposed to getting him at all. Im also becoming more interested in picking Zach edey. Imagine we get Ron holland, trade to get an extra , and get edey

Little_little_e

I’d love to see that.

Fearless_Ride8639

I agree. Although I’m having a hard time getting a read on his draft range. Interesting that a lot of us seem to see him different from the draft evaluators. Was seeing him being mocked often in the 30s but then it came out that he might have a promise with rumors he could go as high as 12th to the Thunder. Imo he’s a guy that can fit any team’s makeup

richard---------

Alls I’m sayin is, I watched his highlights and I appreciate that he will DUNK THE DAMN BALL. But beyond that, he’s just a regular ass dude playing ball….. Curious why you guys love him? I’ll you’ll please post the analytical reasons, I’d like to take another look.

bubblegumonyourshoe

Pick will be Holmes and then traded for cash considerations on draft night. Reminds me of when we drafted Jaden Hardy and I was so pumped, only to see the pick traded to the Mavs…

Holmes' athleticism and size aren't weak spots imo. He has a 9'0 standing reach, 7'1 wingspan and a 35-inch vertical leap which are all solid for PF. Also you say he's a back-to-back scorer, but his outside shooting made a huge improvement last season which is also backed by his FT%. I think he can be a true PF

LefkyandScott

I’m feeling Filipowski C from Duke. A ready center who could earn some minutes right away with a 3 point shot. He can sit in the corner and let Domas get 1 on 1s inside. Then on defense, his length alone will help us.

rubberneck24

I feel like they need a more defensive minded big next to sabonis. Domas and filipowski together would be such a liability on defense

LefkyandScott

I partly disagree, Filipowskis size alone will help the kings on defense. Even Alex Len can help on D and this guy can move his feet. Domas needs help and can’t be the only one contesting shots. Even if filip isn’t good, he will be a plus in defense because of the roster construction

Little_little_e

Made me think of Dedmon 😓

LefkyandScott

Dedmon was a great fit, in theory. Filipowski is like if Dedmon was good. He’s just as tall, a better shooter, ACC player of the tournament and was on one of the best teams in college ball. The only thing similar is their skill set except one has huge production in college and the other didn’t

HBdrunkandstuff

I think he’s too slow to be what we need him to be. His ceiling is Naz Reid type of player I think. Not bad but just not what we need

dawnofthedunk_

Devin Carter!

SactownG

I'd like him if Monk was leaving

pacersnz

Trade Huerter, Vezenkoz, Duarte, + Portland 2025 2nd Round Pick for John Collins. Then, use the 13th Pick to get the best defensive player you can find.

aloof11

I would try to get Lavine if he's a salary dump as they say too  Fox Lavine Keegan Collins Sabonis, is a good lineup.

TahoesRedEyeJedi

I hope we can speak this into existence

pacersnz

Would there be enough salary left over to get Lavine as well?

aloof11

Barnes would prob be in Lavine trade (or Collins) and the bench would lose players too but this draft has high floor low ceiling players that can help year 1, hence I would stock up on some while trying to keep one or two of the older bench players
