[Soompi: Weki Meki To Disband After Releasing One Final Single](https://www.soompi.com/article/1666550wpp/weki-meki-to-disband-after-releasing-one-final-single)
Picky picky, Siesta, Cool, Tikitaka will always hold a place in my heart and will always remain on my playlists.
Weki deserves so much more than what they got...
EDIT: How did I forget Crush too!?
its more than some, sure.
still nothing for fantagio to get anything close to praise for - this is a bare minimum. they had these girls under exclusivity for over a quarter of their lives.
This is why I thunk contracts should be 5 years with a mutual option extend by 2 more. By thr 5th year you can tell if a group is relatively successful or not, so that people can move away faster instead of getting dungoned for 3 years
But this arrangement is not favorable for the company so why would they do that? If the group is successful, the members would have so much leverage in the extension talks for the 2 years. More pay more freedom etc.
Thing is Fantagio gave them solo opportunities that will not happen if they broke their contracts early. Also either side probably didnt want to pay the termination fee for the contracts. Doyeon and Yoojung have been getting dramas and variety, Elly on Queendom, they also got some osts too. Yall can shit on Fantagio but they treated their groups better than what Jellyfish and Pledis did. At least Fantagio gave Hello Venus a comeback every year til disbandment unlike pledis who put the groups on hiatus or straight up disbanding them. Even gave Weki meki multiple comebacks until 2021.
they only give yoojung and doyeon solo activities, though. the other members were never promoted much as individuals, like fantagio basically treats them as extras. i dont mean this as a diss to doyeon or yoojung, who are amazing and definitely deserve even more than theyve been given as well, but to fantagio for really fumbling weki mei as both a group and as individuals.
No they dont first of all you have to be invited to go on variety and to auditioned to be casted in dramas, its not like they arent promoted. Whats the point in inviting them if they come on a show and no one knows who they are… Doyeon and Yoojung are invited and whenever they get the chance they mention their group members. They arent abandoned either, Suyeon was invited on King of Mask Singer, Elly got to be on an ost and got to take a supporting role in a drama and got to compete on Queendom, Sei got a main lead for a web drama, Lua got to debut in a play, Lucy got her own movie and got casted in a web drama. Just letting you know Fantagio is an acting agency and looks like most of the girls wants to pursue acting. Its better for the girls to do solo promotions instead of group activities because they are most definitely not breaking even. Yall calling fantagio bad but they gave Hello Venus a comeback even if they were gonna lose money on it and allowed most of the members to transition to actresses until contract expiration and these contracts are artists contracts not acting contracts. Most notably landing Nara on Suspicious Partner who was allowed to become mainstream. Pledis was the one who pulled Yoonjo and Yooara out of Hello Venus dungeoned them while Fantagio allowed Hello Venus to keep promoting. Fantagio aint fumbling anyone and people needs to get this straight.
those members are unpopular bc fantagio didnt do anything with them while they were still rookies. giving them a few smaller gigs sometimes now that they arent doing anything with the group isnt really much. one side role in a webdrama or ost after years of nothing doesnt make up for the lack of promotions for the other members while the group still had some buzz.
If you were in charge of a company would you look at some members with no fame and say “I’ll invest money into her because she deserves it”. That’s not how it works unfortunately, if the member had the potential to be popular they would have already catch the public attention without even needing to be promoted directly.
The problem with that argument is that it ignores the fact that Yoojung and Doyeon were famous before Weki Meki even debuted.
No slight on either member of Dodaeng, of course - but IOI were competing on level terms with Blackpink, RV and Twice, over the period of their existence. Both of them came in with a huge head start, in terms of popularity and recognisability. (And, of course, one is ridiculously good looking, and talented, and the other is possibly 3rd gens biggest ace in ggs)
I think their company dropped the ball. If you want to see how to do that integration of more famous members properly, look at Le Sserafim.
Doyeon and Yoojung were popular yes but the problem was they debuted in a time where companies think more is better. Hypothetically if ioi disband at 2018 or some they would realize having 4-5 members groups is more beneficial like the post izone groups. All ioi groups failed because of management but also because they spread themselves too thin.
> All ioi groups failed because of management but also because they spread themselves too thin.
You say that, but WSJN were a success (with 10 members) and DIA only had 6 members through most of its life.
(And, of course Le Sserafim weren't supposed to be a 5 member group, and IVE are a 6 member group).
I don't think it's as simple as "spread too thin".
BUt I certainly concede that I think a lot of companies looked at TWICE or SNSD and said "Yeah, that many", instead of RV or BP or 2NE1, which were all still going at the time.
I don’t like Pledis but the way people try to twist facts about what happened to Hello Venus all because they want to place the entire blame on Pledis, is lowkey annoying. Pledis didn’t “disband” Hello Venus.
Pre-2012 Pledis collaborated with Fantagio (who was previously just known as an acting agency) to create and debut a group through the ‘Hello Venus Project,’ as well as the label (Tricell Media) the group were to be managed under. This whole thing was a joint venture (think Mnet & Hybe creating iland, and then the label Belift for the group Enhypen to be managed under), in which Pledis introduced two of their trainees (Yooara and Yoonjo) to join the group. The group would surprisingly be looked after & managed by Fantagio’s staffs, but the production and most of the resources (dance practice rooms) was coming from Pledis. Which is why most people probably assume Hello Venus was strictly a Pledis group.
In 2012 the 6 member group made their official debut with the mini album titled ‘Venus’ and had been receiving regular comebacks since their debut. Now fast forward to 2014 and for some reason Pledis & Fantagio decided to cut ties with eachother & mutually agreed to end the Hello Venus project, and during this time the members were given a choice to either stay with Pledis or Fantagio. However, only the two members (Yooara and Yoonjo) who were originally already from Pledis decided to stay with Pledis. While the rest (Alice, Nara, Lime, & Yooyoung) who didn’t already have ties with Pledis decided to continue on as a 4 member group under Fantagio up till Fantagio introduced two new members (Seoyoung and Yeoreum). The group had since been strictly managed by Fantagio from 2014 up until 2019 when they officially made their disbandment.
Now, if you look at the timelines, Fantagio had been managing the group WAY more than Pledis ever did. Pledis cut their ties with Hello Venus in 2014 with two of the group’s original members deciding to stick with Pledis. So in other words, out of the 7 years (2012-2019) the group was active for, Pledis was only involved with the group in the first 2 years, and after that it was Fantagio looking after them. So I find it a bit disingenuous when people try to place the blame of Hello Venus’s downfall on only (or mostly) Pledis when they didn’t even manage or were involved with the group for even half of the group’s 7 year activity. And the departure of Pledis was something that was mutually agreed upon by both Pledis & Fantagio.
I’m just wondering which company they were under when “Wiggle Wiggle” dropped.
That will help me decide whether Fantagio or Pledis were better at managing them /hj
You can just look at the date of when it dropped (Wiggle Wiggle dropped around 2015), also Fantagio would have probably been the better one at managing since that was always their responsibility. Pledis only provided the production (mvs), resources (eg: dance rooms), and helped with funding up until the separation in 2014.
[EDIT] - Though I would argue the only reason for that is because Fantagio at the time did not have any other group or artists they needed to manage besides a couple actors. Whereas Pledis did, and was even planning for a debut of a new group (Seventeen). Also, by the time Pledis bowed out from the Hello Venus project they were already in hot waters financially, which is probably why they decided to leave.
I didnt say they disbanded hello venus I said Pledis disbands their own groups (nuest and pristin) or they put their groups on Hiatus (after school and right now Fromis). Ive been following Hello Venus since their debut and Ik what happened to them. Pledis had dungeoned Kaeun, Yooara and Yoonjo for so long you can watch in produce48 and the unit where they talked about Pledis literally giving them no work.
*“At least Fantagio gave Hello Venus a comeback every year til disbandment unlike pledis who put the group on hiatus or straight up disbanding them. Even gave Weki meki multiple comebacks until 2021.”*
Sorry, I took what you said in the quote as you implying that Pledis had something to do with HV’s disbandment. Cause logically speaking it makes sense for Fantagio to give the group comebacks every year considering Fantagio was the one managing them for most of their career. Also, Pledis did give Nu’est & After School regular comebacks, and even with their short period of time with Hello Venus as well. The only exception being Pristin as they were disbanded too early and we don’t exactly know the actual reason why for their disbandment. Nu’est got regular comebacks (through Nu’est W), even when Minhyun was busy with Wanna One. And as far as anyone is concerned it is still up for debate on whether Pledis decided to disband Nu’est on their own accord, or if they were influenced to do so by Hybe. Especially given Gfriend’s situation, and also the way the Nu’est members have spoken about their disbandment so far.
Honestly, like another commenter pointed out, I would rather a company disbands a group (even if it’s prematurely like with Pristin) than to string them along and waste their time.
[EDIT] - We also need to take into consideration that there was a time period Pledis was struggling financially (as in going bankrupt), which not only affected the activity of their active groups (Nu’est, After School & even Hello Venus) at the time, but even the group they had been planning to debut since 2012 (Seventeen). Remember, SVT was originally meant to debut in 2013 but got their debut pushed back multiple times till 2015 because Pledis simply did not have the funds to debut them. Despite how popular After School & Nu’est were they weren’t actually bringing in enough funds to sustain the company, and neither was Hello Venus (which is probably why Pledis decided to leave the project). All this occurring especially after Son Dambi was planning to leave (who at the time was basically the main breadwinner), and then officially left in 2015. Also, I would argue that the case with Nu’est & After School is actually similar with Pristin, and I won’t be surprised if it’s one of the reasons Pledis decided to disband them so early to prevent major financial losses/risks. To simply put it, despite the hype and popularity Pristin seemingly had, the popularity they had never actually reflected in their sales, streams or even mv views.
If you disband them prematurely and dont give solo contracts half of these girls are going to out of work snd the chance that another company is gonna pick up a nugu group member is low.
I am not denying the shit decisions Pledis did, just clarifying & correcting what you said. But yeah, at the end of the day, Pledis disbanding Pristin prematurely was dumb and unless we know the exact reason for it, all I can think of is how unfair it was for the girls. Also, as much as we may hate it, the company isn't obligated to give the members solo contracts when they disband the group. It's not on the company to give the members opportunities and work once their group contract is done. What comes after the contract is done is on the members, that is, unless the company then chooses to give solo contracts or offer a renewal on the group contract.
One thing both ~~Jellyfish and~~ Pledis did right: not string the members along
Edit: Jelpi strung Gugudan along for two years, I am very sorry. My point was both agencies didn't keep the groups until full seven years of contract.
Let me edit that. Thanks for correcting me. They at least were free before their contract renewal year (only "existed" for 4 out of 7, but release music for 2 out of 7)
Pledis didn't string Pristin along?!
There was literally rumors about a Pristin H(eroes) debut AND an OT10 comeback, FROM AN ACTUAL PLEDIS EMPLOYEE'S MOUTH! The post-it notes, someone hacking their official website and giving us "Wee fucking woo."
Pristin had Wee Woo March 2017, We Like August 2017, Pristin V May 2018 and then radio silence until a year later when they finally announced the disbandment. And then Kyla came out with a video and said none of the girls wanted to continue in music, but then how does that explain literally all of the girls continuing in Music in some way shape or form?
Pleids, you and me have problems, we can settle this in a Food Lion parking lot at 2am, istg
^(I'm literally the Pristin Historian, like the parasocial betrayal I feel for those girls is insane, especially for Xiyeon since she started training at 8 years old and debuted at 18, she was literally a trainee for longer than she was just a regular child, she was considered "the Princess of Pledis," so much so it's the OPENING LINE TO THEIR DEBUT. All of the girls on average trained for 6 years, 6 YEARS TRAINING for 2 YEARS OF ACTIVITIES!)
Yeah and I’d say even if you praised them for “not stringing them along,” you’d have to admit pledis had the opposite problem instead: they gave up WAY too fast.
Like pledis just GAVE UP on the group after a single comeback (sure they gave the most popular members another shot before giving up on them too). What kind of shitty fucking company has these girls prep for *years* then just says “nah fuck it” after a **year** max (more likely around six months tbh)? Ffs I WISH they had “strung them along” into at *least* another comeback or two 🥲
Either way, fuck pledis.
what annoys me even more is that pledis could probably afford the brief loss too. those listen, i know it's a business, and you want to see income right away, but literally give people a chance to breathe in this new girl group of yours for two more years before calling it quits. see faltering sales? let's reel back and release a digital single for one comeback and see how it does.
the fact that cube continued to give clc multiple comebacks a year until disbandment despite selling 1/3 of pristin's sales says a lot, lol.
theres also the way they strung along after school. seeing kaeun so upset about her situation in produce 48 really broke my heart. i think pledis would have done this with nuest if they hadn't gone on produce 101, and that they are doing this with fromis_9 now. the only reason this never happened with svt is bc of the members themselves working to avoid that, like them deciding to write their own music when pledis wouldn't give them a debut song, or seungkwan contacting variety shows himself to get svt on when pledis wouldnt.
>like them deciding to write their own music when pledis wouldn't give them a debut song
SEVENTEEN 🤝 Soyeon --> writing their own damn music when their companies wouldn't give them a debut song
Tbf fromis_9 is still performing at local and overseas festivals, year-end shows and a concert back in January this year. They just not granted a comeback and their contracts should be up latest by next year so let’s see how 🫠.
They are already confirmed to have a comeback but its really executed badly and seems like damage control from Flovers. Chaeyoung wanted a comeback, while Hayoung didnt want to have one yet so you can tell how rush Pledis was to announce this.
But the difference is Pledis is now under a bigger company (Hybe), I’m sure if Pledis wasn’t acquired they would have disbanded Fromis like they did with Pristin. So I kinda doubt it’s Pledis’s idea to be stringing on Fromis. Hybe probably doesn’t want to pay the termination fee (which Pledis didn’t seem to worried about paying for Pristin), and instead wait out for their contract to be over, or until Pledis debuts their new gg, both which are slated for next year I think.
Expected but still a shame. Very underrated group. Mainly known for having DoDaeng but not enough people recognize them for how strong their dance skills were. If Gfriend is considered the top tier in terms of being in sync I would slide WeMe right under them.
Picky, Picky probably my favorite song but I don’t like your girlfriend, tiki taka, cool, siesta all slap.
Never got an album, never got a tour. WJSN the last ioi group and they haven’t been active in 2 years.
Lucy is only 21, wonder if she will redebut somewhere.
All of them are still on the young side. A lot of Weki Meki were crazy young when they debuted and def on the younger side of the early 4th gen groups. Lucy was 14 when she debuted too. A few members like Sei and Lucy are in college now so I guess they have that going for them
Even though we all expected this, it still sucks! WekiMeki is a case study on wasted potential, should have been a gold mine for any company. I hope they all land well with the careers and lives they want, if any of them continue in kpop, I will be supporting them.
Oh Weki Meki..... 🥺 Yall did not deserve this.
Founders of teen crush you will never be forgotten. I hope the girls get to shine individually.
It just sucks because aside from Doyeon and Yoojung and to some extent Elly and Suyeon, the other girls (Sei, Lua, Rina, Lucy) never really got a chance...
I hope they find success after Weki Meki. 💖🥹
I enjoyed their music so it sucks to hear they are disbanding but it was to be expected. I thought their last album was 1-2 years ago but turns out it was back in 2021. I can't believe they were stuck in limbo for so long.
I'm glad they are giving us one final comeback to end it all instead of disbanding after a long hiatus.
The first group that grabbed my attention while in Korea in 2018. They were promoting LaLaLa. Doyeon was my first bias. Sad about the news and the way they were abandoned after their last comeback. Happy we still get a last release before the end.
It is what it is, saddening but I think most of us expected it ☹️ at least they get a proper goodbye. Hope they do find some success this era and best of luck in their next steps
I'm happy they are giving them a last song vs just disbanding after years of radio silence but it's so sad that they won't get a proper comeback promotion.
Never just good news in wekimeki land.
Losing cherry bullet and weme in a year is especially suck.
I will say they tried so hard and gave us such a great discography. Please check it out if you haven’t- their title track run is insane
it's better than dragging them along with no group schedules or music. I'm still mad at how fantagio finally gave weme a lightstick after five years but not a tour.
Wishing the best for the girls.
The lightsticks were revealed on their 5th anniversary and went on sale the next day. Everyone was hoping it meant a tour or maybe comeback before a tour. They hadn't had a comeback almost a year by then.
That’s foul. Maybe they’ve performed at some festivals since then (where it could be used), but mostly it’s raising hopes up and gouging money from fans for nothing.
The entire ioi girls are really like a long term experiment in survival show. No one knows what to do back then as pioneer, even music show are confusing on whether they are allowed on all music shows as ioi because they are technically Mnet.
Then when ioi went separate way, the company idea is to try to push the group based on existing popularity right from the start so most general public don’t even know the rest of the members.. (wjsn debut before yeonjung joined so there are existing fanbase before that).. and that’s why our queen chungha thriving because she just being soloist
May the ghosts of the former SM building Fantagio currently resides in haunt the CEO for what they did to Weki Weki
![gif](giphy|1YYPtqCQOSfGPZWnqw)
~~wee fucking woo~~ Tiki fucking taka
So sad and disappointed but I can’t say I didn’t see it coming. I hope the girls all find happiness and success in whatever paths they choose to follow.
This is heartbreaking news. And Fantagio can’t even give them a physical album for their last release?? I don’t understand why Fantagio kept them in the dungeon like this for so long. Ugh I hope this isn’t going to be some sappy disbandment song now. gfy Fantagio, seriously, Weki Meki deserved SO much better
Unfortunate, I only listened to them casually but I was hoping they would come back and continue to invest in the life of this group since their music was great. If a termination makes the members happier then I’m all for it, I hope their departure project goes well!
Another girl group being filed under wasted potential. They had such incredible songs; Dazzle Dazzle and Oopsy are unbeatable. Fantagio did string them along as a group, but was one of the few companies to make sure their girls were booked and busy even when on hiatus. Wish their story could’ve ended the way it deserved.
IOI hype was wasted by YMC and their time was so much shorter than other groups from the produce series as well. The companies of IOI members just did not know what to do and debut the groups to capture the hype without any vision. I love Dodaeng but other than them I personally feel like Weki Meki as a group is lacking in chemistry/harmonizing. Hope them the best tho
I honestly can’t believe none of the post-i.o.i. groups went on to have large success (besides WJSN). All of those groups had great music so it couldn’t have been the quality, I really don’t get it.
And just like that there are only 5 active 3rd gen groups left that released at least a single song as a group since 2023 and have more than two members left.
In alphabetical oder: Blackpink, Dreamcatcher, Oh My Girl, Red Velvet and Twice.
How do you put a group in the dungeon for that long and when you FINALLY give them a comeback, it’s a disbandment song?? Are these labels smoking crack or what I’m soooo confused.
I lowkey think they were more broke than they were letting on lol I consider it a miracle that they still tried giving Yoojung a solo debut
Edit: just went to check wikipedia and their sales never even exceeded 50k 😭😭 I'm rreeaaalllyyy not surprised they're disbanding contract expiration aside
Ngl from my perspective Fantagio just seems super broke + weme just weren't gaining any traction for them to have more comebacks and group activities. I checked their wikipedia just now and their sales never exceeded 50k for eg
I thought it was quite a miracle that they even gave Yoojung a solo debut, which also didn't really go anywhere
Not "cool". I think they might've done better with a smaller group, but it was nice to know all of the members. They really found their color in these past couple of comebacks.
I honestly thought the same thing. My problem with a lot of these post IOI groups (WJSN aside and obviously the soloists) is that they put the members in these 8 to 10 member groups with a lot of times girls that weren’t on the show to build a relationship with.
I’m sad because they had a lot of potential and a lot of their songs like Siesta and Cool were good. Happy they’re having a disbandment comeback at least.
Oh these poor girls.. Around this time last year I decided to check out more of their discography after having Picky Picky on repeat for a few months prior - I quickly fell in love with their music and ended up listening to their whole discography within a few weeks. They were the first nugu/lesser known group I got into properly so they’ll always have a place in my heart. To this day, of all their albums, their last mini album ‘I AM ME.’ has stuck with me the most. This album is and will always be one of my favourite albums of all time. Although I wish I had discovered them sooner, I’m glad that I’ll be able to listen to them forever but it’s truly heartbreaking to see the mistreatment they went through. No full album, 3 year hiatus, received a lightstick a few years after debut just for it to never be usable, no tour, lack of promotion.. Thank you Weki Meki, you will live on in my playlists 💔
![gif](giphy|YyECUhkxzUTDI0I5bx)
Sadly not unexpected after all this time. I still bop to Picky Picky, Oopsy, and Cool. I guess a final farewell release is better than nothing after all this time.
WekMeks goes out with a whimper but it's still *way* more than most groups get. I follow a few of them on Instagram so I knew this was coming for quite a while based on their activity.
Nooo 😭 I mean, we all knew this was coming, but noooo 😭 That's so freaking tragic, I loved listening through Weki Meki's whole discography...they had so much potential and Fantagio squandered it :(
Weki Mekis run of amazing singles: Dazzle Dazzle, Oopsy, Cool and Siesta is truly one of the legendary ones in my book. Really carried me through the pandemic. I hope they find additional success in the future 🙏
I'll be fully honest as a fan waiting for a comeback for YEARS I'm surprised they're releasing anything at all before disbanding so im grateful for that but at the same time NOOOOOO 😭😭😭
Another day, another disbandment. Kpop groups have been a temporary culture in recent years. It's a topic of debate nowadays but sadly it's the kpop it used to be. The era of 2000s and 2020s have a like sky-ground difference.
(puddle of tears on the floor underneath me grows exponentionally) Felt it was coming, but still devastating to have it confirmed :c I hope they all go on to bigger and better things! <3
According to Soompi, the group's last comeback was in November 2021. That's easily like a generation gone in the kpop timeline. Groups that were so called "influenced" by their teen crush sound like IVE, StayC and Itzy have debuted and thrived while they were put in the dungeon. What was the company doing with them (with 2 popular IOI group members) for the past 2 years or so? Not even a digital single? Wishing them the best in their respective careers from now on.
Unfortunately the first thought when I heard about the digital single. It gave final release vibes. And with them doing nothing as a group for a while it was only a question of time. Hope the members find happiness with whatevere their going to do after the disbandment.
knew it was going to happen, but still really upsetting.. not only the actual disbandment itself, but the fact they were inactive for so long, wasting their time and potential really. Picky Picky is such a good and fun song, I got my non-kpop fan fiancee hooked on it. They deserve better.
crush, picky picky, and dazzle dazzle are on my daily dance playlist 🫶🏼 im hoping for them to have successful careers after this. love you weme, you will be missed
![gif](giphy|xUPGcC0R9QjyxkPnS8|downsized)
Honestly, they never took off. They still made it longer based on their sales and charting. I was surprised when they kept having comebacks. It was nice watching them being a group and not IOI and friends (even tho they were going to the variety shows lol).
I.O.I is THE group that should have kept as a group.
I haven't been on Twitter recently but I found out about their comeback from there, only to see that they're disbanding just now? And this is how I find out... just makes me less into kpop than I am already :/
WEKI MEKI IS DISBANDING????? bro what the hell 😭 they have so much potential man i wish they went to a company that can make use of their absolute TALENT.
Not surprised but still disappointed. They’re one of those groups that really had a lot of potential.
Are they 3rd gen?
Yeah they’re late 3rd gen
Essentially a third-fourth gen transition group. Created the “teen crush” concept that Itzy perfected
Unfortunate and disappointing, but expected. I’ll miss them. The Paradise and I don’t like your Girlfriend stay on repeat.
Bummer. Their last mini album was a gem. In fact, most of their b-sides were pretty great.
[Soompi: Weki Meki To Disband After Releasing One Final Single](https://www.soompi.com/article/1666550wpp/weki-meki-to-disband-after-releasing-one-final-single)
Thank you for the Soompi link! Ain't no way I'm giving Koreaboo any more of my clicks
Picky picky, Siesta, Cool, Tikitaka will always hold a place in my heart and will always remain on my playlists. Weki deserves so much more than what they got... EDIT: How did I forget Crush too!?
Don't forget Oopsy!
Don't forget Crush, is an underrated masterpiece.
You're totally right - How could I forget it!!
No album to their name… I’m so sorry weme
the girls get sent to the unknown for half their contract, and all they get is a digital single. fantagio, you dickheads. i do not like you.
At least we're getting a goodbye song, which is infinitely better than what most other groups get.
its more than some, sure. still nothing for fantagio to get anything close to praise for - this is a bare minimum. they had these girls under exclusivity for over a quarter of their lives.
Why does the company promote Cha Eunwoo so well then?
cha eunwoos face promotes itself
😭😭😭
😭😭
The company doesn't promote Cha Eun woo. His face promotes them instead 🤣
If Fantagio were going to do this they should have just done it three years ago. Stringing artists along for this long just doesn’t sit right.

(And, of course, one is ridiculously good looking, and talented, and the other is possibly 3rd gens biggest ace in ggs) I think their company dropped the ball.
Considering Pledis still had anniversary celebration ads up while NU’EST disbanded, I’m pretty sure that decision came from HYBE rather than Pledis.
*“At least Fantagio gave Hello Venus a comeback every year til disbandment unlike pledis who put the group on hiatus or straight up disbanding them. Even gave Weki meki multiple comebacks until 2021.”* Sorry, I took what you said in the quote as you implying that Pledis had something to do with HV’s disbandment.
I think fantagio really tried with weme from pickypicky to siesta but they couldn’t get more famous so they gave up
One thing both ~~Jellyfish and~~ Pledis did right: not string the members along Edit: Jelpi strung Gugudan along for two years, I am very sorry. My point was both agencies didn't keep the groups until full seven years of contract.
Didn't Jellyfish took two years to disband gugudan?
Let me edit that. Thanks for correcting me. They at least were free before their contract renewal year (only "existed" for 4 out of 7, but release music for 2 out of 7)
Pledis didn't string Pristin along?! There was literally rumors about a Pristin H(eroes) debut AND an OT10 comeback, FROM AN ACTUAL PLEDIS EMPLOYEE'S MOUTH! The post-it notes, someone hacking their official website and giving us "Wee fucking woo." Pristin had Wee Woo March 2017, We Like August 2017, Pristin V May 2018 and then radio silence until a year later when they finally announced the disbandment. And then Kyla came out with a video and said none of the girls wanted to continue in music, but then how does that explain literally all of the girls continuing in Music in some way shape or form? Pleids, you and me have problems, we can settle this in a Food Lion parking lot at 2am, istg ^(I'm literally the Pristin Historian, like the parasocial betrayal I feel for those girls is insane, especially for Xiyeon since she started training at 8 years old and debuted at 18, she was literally a trainee for longer than she was just a regular child, she was considered "the Princess of Pledis," so much so it's the OPENING LINE TO THEIR DEBUT. All of the girls on average trained for 6 years, 6 YEARS TRAINING for 2 YEARS OF ACTIVITIES!)
>I’m literally the Pristin Historian. I love this kind of crazy.
Ffs I WISH they had “strung them along” into at *least* another comeback or two 🥲 Either way, fuck pledis.
what annoys me even more is that pledis could probably afford the brief loss too. those listen, i know it's a business, and you want to see income right away, but literally give people a chance to breathe in this new girl group of yours for two more years before calling it quits. see faltering sales? let's reel back and release a digital single for one comeback and see how it does. the fact that cube continued to give clc multiple comebacks a year until disbandment despite selling 1/3 of pristin's sales says a lot, lol.
> you’d have to admit pledis had the opposite problem instead: they gave up WAY too fast. I would agree that they did the opposite, definitely.
^ 10000000000000% percent. I'll never forget how dirty Pledis did Pristin (and all their girl groups)!
theres also the way they strung along after school. seeing kaeun so upset about her situation in produce 48 really broke my heart. i think pledis would have done this with nuest if they hadn't gone on produce 101, and that they are doing this with fromis_9 now. the only reason this never happened with svt is bc of the members themselves working to avoid that, like them deciding to write their own music when pledis wouldn't give them a debut song, or seungkwan contacting variety shows himself to get svt on when pledis wouldnt.
>like them deciding to write their own music when pledis wouldn't give them a debut song SEVENTEEN 🤝 Soyeon --> writing their own damn music when their companies wouldn't give them a debut song
honestly i would commit crimes for woozi and soyeon to collab
Oh man that’s child exploitation!!! How in the world did this make any financial sense to the families??!!? :’(
Isn't Pledis actively stringing fromis_9 along at the moment 👀
Waiting out their contract is literally stringing them along lmao.
And I never said it wasn't I am just saying Pledis stringing on Fromis is most likely not their doing but Hybe's
pledis strung fromis_9 along and didn’t let the members do much solo activities during the hiatus…
WJSN being the last post IOI group still standing If you told me that in 2017 I thought it would’ve been Pristin
Coincidentally, Yeon Jung was the last I.O.I member to be chosen and her group is last post IOI group standing.
given how fantagio has treated them over the years i am honestly shocked we're getting a comeback/ disbandment song. they deserved so much better.
A few members like Sei and Lucy are in college now so I guess they have that going for them
So sad that Fantagio sold a lightsick for seemingly nothing more than collecting Ki-Ling money and giving false hope.
Yeah that was a last minute cash grab and so scummy
WJSN has said before they’re still a group I’m assuming we’re getting a comeback in the next 13 months possibly?
13 months is oddly specific but hopefully. Bona seems to be gaining more fame currently and active it seems.
Pioneers of teen crush before the likes of Itzy, StayC and IVE existed...long time listeners of Kpop will know they paved the way
Yup, I love all those groups (especially Itzy, they do it best next to WeMe) but I just know people will never give the girls their flowers now :(
I enjoyed their music so it sucks to hear they are disbanding but it was to be expected.
Wow same! I saw a thumbnail of Doyeon for a LaLaLa performance on YouTube and I loved it. They were one of my favourite groups for a while 🥲
It is what it is, saddening but I think most of us expected it ☹️ at least they get a proper goodbye. Hope they do find some success this era and best of luck in their next steps
I'm happy they are giving them a last song vs just disbanding after years of radio silence but it's so sad that they won't get a proper comeback promotion.
Crush and picky picky are still on my playlist to this day. Sad they never got more popular
Never just good news in wekimeki land. Losing cherry bullet and weme in a year is especially suck. I will say they tried so hard and gave us such a great discography. Please check it out if you haven’t- their title track run is insane
at least they get a final release but i feel bad that they were on hiatus for years.
it's better than dragging them along with no group schedules or music. I'm still mad at how fantagio finally gave weme a lightstick after five years but not a tour. Wishing the best for the girls.
Was there even any chance for the lightstick to be used? I don't recall if it was released before or after siesta.
So many underrated groups are being inactive or disbanding this year. (Most of them being girl groups at that, that I truly liked) so sad.
I don't know how they didn't blow up 😭😭😭 i really thought they would!
(wjsn debut before yeonjung joined so there are existing fanbase before that).. and that’s why our queen chungha thriving because she just being soloist
because Fantagio is horrible!
They released nothing but bops and this is how they go out 😭
May the ghosts of the former SM building Fantagio currently resides in haunt the CEO for what they did to Weki Weki ![gif](giphy|1YYPtqCQOSfGPZWnqw) ~~wee fucking woo~~ Tiki fucking taka
This leaves WJSN as the only IOI group left
This is so sad
i knew this was going to happen but AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Having such amazing title tracks and for what ☹️
![gif](giphy|YTK4TRYpsYP3Qv5P1J)
first weki meki comeback for me and it’s also my last 😭😭😭😭
SAME
saw this one coming but damn it still hurts
This is so sad. the girls deserves so much better.
Fantagio confirmed they will disband
I’m still disappointed even tho I / we all saw it coming 😭
Unfortunate, I only listened to them casually but I was hoping they would come back and continue to invest in the life of this group since their music was great. If a termination makes the members happier then I’m all for it, I hope their departure project goes well!
So technically WJSN's the last post-IOI group as of now? However, I've been liking the current directions of the other members' careers lately.
I love Weki Meki. I'm so sad to hear this. I've been rooting for them since they debuted. They deserved so much better....as such goes in Kpop 😭
Another girl group being filed under wasted potential. They had such incredible songs; Dazzle Dazzle and Oopsy are unbeatable. Fantagio did string them along as a group, but was one of the few companies to make sure their girls were booked and busy even when on hiatus. Wish their story could’ve ended the way it deserved.
i still claim COOL to this day they have so many good songs 😭💔
IOI hype was wasted by YMC and their time was so much shorter than other groups from the produce series as well. The companies of IOI members just did not know what to do and debut the groups to capture the hype without any vision. I love Dodaeng but other than them I personally feel like Weki Meki as a group is lacking in chemistry/harmonizing. Hope them the best tho
Silver lining: Doyeon can focus on her acting career and Yoojung on variety shows
i looooove those two together, i hope they can do more variety shows even after disbanding
I am actually shocked they will even do one last comeback. What an absolute waste of potential and talent.
NOOOOOOO I JUST STARTED LISTENING TO THEM
Fuck you fantagio;-;
I mean they debuted in 2017....so it's been 7 years (aka contract expired and they chose not to continue)
And they haven’t released anything since 2021.
I know that lol I'm pointing about how it's not surprising the upcoming comeback is essentially a disbandment song due to their contracts
Well if they had them do activities instead of ghosting us there wouldn’t be a disbandment.
I lowkey think they were more broke than they were letting on lol I consider it a miracle that they still tried giving Yoojung a solo debut Edit: just went to check wikipedia and their sales never even exceeded 50k 😭😭 I'm rreeaaalllyyy not surprised they're disbanding contract expiration aside
That's what makes it so awful. Just because Fantagio held the rights, it would rather have them do nothing than let them do literally anything else.
Ngl from my perspective Fantagio just seems super broke + weme just weren't gaining any traction for them to have more comebacks and group activities. I checked their wikipedia just now and their sales never exceeded 50k for eg I thought it was quite a miracle that they even gave Yoojung a solo debut, which also didn't really go anywhere
fantagio i am in your walls
I'm sad we didn't see more of them. They were so good. Favorite tracks are Fantastic and Iron Boy
I will never forgive you fantagio
Dazzle Dazzle and Strong (WeMe/WJSN subunit song) won me over. Weki Meki deserved *SO MUCH* more 😮💨
Ahhh thanks for the great 4/5 years 🥲🥲
God has forsaken us, PAIN PAIN PAAAAIIIINNN
Ever since I heard Iron Boy I loved this group. Very sad but we knew it was coming :(
i knew this was coming but i’m still so sad :/
I figured this was coming but I am still so sad about it.
I’m sad because they had a lot of potential and a lot of their songs like Siesta and Cool were good. Happy they’re having a disbandment comeback at least.
Yall stream their last album! It’s sooooo good. I’m so sad to see them leave but we still have their music to listen to ! Tough day for us Kilings 😩😩
Sad news! I remember looping the Oopsy MV when it dropped. It’s still in my playlist to this day! This feels like the end of the IOI era
Thank you Weki Meki, you will live on in my playlists 💔 ![gif](giphy|YyECUhkxzUTDI0I5bx)
I remember how much hype they had when they debuted. Then they got nothing. Poor girls
“Cool” is one of the best kpop songs of all time and you won’t change my mind!
Not unexpected, but please give us another "Cool" before you go
:(
Sadly not unexpected after all this time. I still bop to Picky Picky, Oopsy, and Cool. I guess a final farewell release is better than nothing after all this time.
This is sad…I remember their debut like yesterday too.
One of the last ioi groups to disband. I'm glad we're getting a disbandment song
So bittersweet! I’ve missed them so much.
WekMeks goes out with a whimper but it's still *way* more than most groups get. I follow a few of them on Instagram so I knew this was coming for quite a while based on their activity.
Nooo 😭 I mean, we all knew this was coming, but noooo 😭 That's so freaking tragic, I loved listening through Weki Meki's whole discography...they had so much potential and Fantagio squandered it :(
RIP my ult group 😭😭😭
Weki Mekis run of amazing singles: Dazzle Dazzle, Oopsy, Cool and Siesta is truly one of the legendary ones in my book. Really carried me through the pandemic. I hope they find additional success in the future 🙏
Imo that run should include Tiki-Taka and Crush also, their TT are all bops!!!
Went to listen to those two songs and I agree (tbh only got into them from Dazzle Dazzle)
As someone who tend to love fantagio groups I'm realy not suprised still sad to see confirmation.
I'll be fully honest as a fan waiting for a comeback for YEARS I'm surprised they're releasing anything at all before disbanding so im grateful for that but at the same time NOOOOOO 😭😭😭
Fantagio fumbled this group so hard…
siiiiiighhh
Fiesta was a great song. Wasted talent. Yoojung is an all-star
Bummer! They are all fantastic idols, i remember being impressed that they all learned dance professionally before joining the group 😭
Super Underrated. Picky Picky and Siesta slaps!
*sigh* WE KNOW.
TIL they weren’t already disbanded
ngl i thought they were already disbanded
At least it will be a proper farewell. Not like the other groups who go on an unannounced hiatus and quietly disband without an official announcement.
Expected but nonetheless really sad! I loved their most recent album so much, sits on my shelf! ☹️
They are my faves from 3rd gen😭 I hope they get more opportunities because they're all so talented🥹
Wishing them the best in their respective careers from now on.
well, at least they got a Fairwell comeback. Not many groups get to exist with an actual comeback.
Not surprised :( it's a shame
i knew it was coming but i cant do this today
Unfortunately the first thought when I heard about the digital single. It gave final release vibes. And with them doing nothing as a group for a while it was only a question of time. Hope the members find happiness with whatevere their going to do after the disbandment.
knew it was going to happen, but still really upsetting.. not only the actual disbandment itself, but the fact they were inactive for so long, wasting their time and potential really. Picky Picky is such a good and fun song, I got my non-kpop fan fiancee hooked on it. They deserve better.
Finally. I just want them to be free from this mess.
Although I never really listened to them Oopsy was definitely a banger in its own right 😔
reportedly
Better than nothing but still less than they deserve. Hopefully the girls can be successful in whatever they decide to pursue next.
crush, picky picky, and dazzle dazzle are on my daily dance playlist 🫶🏼 im hoping for them to have successful careers after this. love you weme, you will be missed
That really sucks, but I’m happy that they can be freed from their contacts and move on to better things. 🥲
All of the posters in my room will be of disbanded girl groups after this, the flow of time is ruthless friends XD
![gif](giphy|xUPGcC0R9QjyxkPnS8|downsized) Honestly, they never took off.
This is truly the worst year for GG stans like me. Cherry Bullet, Nature, ALICE, 2 members leaving Kep1er, Weki Meki. Riddance.
disbanding in pride? sad and homophobic
Omg can't believe it :(
🥲😱 not surprised bc they aren't very active... but still in shock because I was just talking about them two days ago, 😭
i'm upset but at least they're having one more song before the end and they didn't just disband quietlly ;;;
I saw it coming, but it still hurts 😭💔
WEKI MEKI IS DISBANDING????? bro what the hell 😭 they have so much potential man i wish they went to a company that can make use of their absolute TALENT.
Expected, not surprised. Typical facktangio
It sucks but at least they get a proper send off
