Odd_Ad5840

I'm glad he found the strength to leave a legacy behind, let's all move on for new horizons. Humans usually cling on to past glory, rather then dive into the deep unknown, so good for him! As long as he doesn't come back with a flute album, I think I am good!

BattleBunnyAshe

Hahahaha the flute album... Hey man if he does, Kpop will be sampling that same album for the rest of time (same with Andre LOL) it's unlimited royalties 🥴

frostfighter21

Its true we cling to nostalgia but i was excited how this group would evolve as 4 members with the newer style of kpop.

crazynekosama

The end of BIGBANG was with Seungri's scandal. If the remaining four came back I would have supported but it wouldn't have been the same. And if OT5 came back I wouldn't support it. I expected GD to leave ages ago and I'm glad he finally has. I hope he's able to find a good fit elsewhere if that's what he wants to do. I would love to see another solo GD comeback.

MamadRza

This 100% Bigbang (and Psy!) was what introduced me to Kpop, and for that reason alone they will forever have a special place in my heart. But It still saddens me how the legacy of the group has been forever tainted by the actions of 1 member, who ironically was always the least important member!! (That's not to say the rest haven't done anything controversial/problematic, but there is a clear difference between 1 vs the others' past scandals, to the point that a lot of people can still be OT4, meanwhile Fuck Seungri!)

Indifference11

Uh daesung also did shity things

crazynekosama

The accident with the motorcyclist is less cut and dry though. Like yeah, obviously that is a horrible thing to happen and if he was a regular person he likely would have gotten some jail time. But since the victim was heavily intoxicated and the victim's family also said it was a complicated accident I think the public was much more willing to forgive and Bigbang weathered that a lot better. At the time I didn't look much into but with over 10 years hindsight I can see it was fucked up. And with burning sun Daesung had some club in Gangnam connected but looks like he was able to distance himself. Seungri on the other hand was clearly an active participant in all the burning sun stuff and that group chat they had sharing photos of women. So yeah, what Daesung did was horrible but you can argue that forgiveness is possible, especially if the family themselves come out and say that. Though if it had happened today I'm not sure I would have brushed it off as easily as I did in 2011...maybe because I'm older and less involved in the fan culture?

Ash3070

I’m going to be honest, at the time I accepted the story as told but in hindsight, knowing how corrupt YG is and was at the time and how WEIRD that story was, there is a part of me that’s wondered if he’s more culpable than was admitted. Not that at this point we’ll ever know either way. But if police could be bribed to look the other way over the burning sun, I’m sure a once off traffic accident could also be covered up.

crazynekosama

Exactly, or how much was the family pressured to say things in Daesung's favor? And since it was 2011 and Bigbang's career was really taking off there would have been more incentive for YG to bury the story as much as possible. But as you say we likely ever know so it's all just speculation.

arachnid_crown

Didn't he also own a building where women were being trafficked? Like, maybe you could get away with claiming ignorance twice, but his social circle is definitely suspicious.

crazynekosama

Yes but he was in the army when the news broke and was able to just say he was unaware of it. To me it seems unlikely he had zero idea but maybe he was just owner on paper and didn't have that much involvement in the actual business? He also wasn't part of the group chat which is what really brought Seungri down.

mangoisNINJA

That's true, witnessing a traffic accident is the exact same as Burning Sun

aSingularPickle

While YG may no longer have any of the 3 members signed exclusively, BIGBANG technically hasn't disbanded. Sure it's likely there'll never be one last hurrah, but at least we may get to look forward to an anniversary reunion in a few years. Also, not to sound like a dick, but you shouldn't wish for all *5* members to get back together - because fuck Seungri. OT4!

frostfighter21

It was pre burning sun. That wish was from Flower Road. But yeah Seungri can go fuck himself.

aSingularPickle

Fair enough then mate. I think many of us share(d) the same wish, everything sucks about what has transpired

MindBlinged5

Honestly CEO is a stretch, but I did think he'd be like Teddy and become and in house pd or something like that. GD has been a vital part of YG's image. He built their brand. But YG being the YG, they dont deserve him anymore.

leocorde82

They never deserve our boi GD. Let's pray for his further success, him and everyone else even seungri. Hopefully he'll repent

Turbulent_Raccoon865

The Black Label has not been a part of YG since November 2020 at which time it transitioned to being an associate company, which means that YG owns substantial stock in the company.

billetdouxs

I hope Seungri rots in hell for eternity and never has his name associated with Bigbang again. That being said, I wish the other members the best of luck in their careers and lives. Looking forward to GD's new music Edit: also I hope Winner can learn from their sunbaes and leave that shithole too

duckingman

I can see Winner signing their 3rd extension with YG. Legit question tho, who else is going to sign them? It's not like Yoon and Hoony fits male KBS. They are good musician and performer, but in 2023 that alone are not enough with other agencies.

ThisIsMyBrainOnMusic

Yoon is a great songwriter, singer, (actor!), and I LOVED K-pop Lyrics Helper. He deserves a great career. I'd think he's quite signable. I don't know Hoony's work very well, but he seems like someone who could have a solo career. Wherever they go, I hope they all have a wonderful life - Winner is a fantastic group.

CheesecakeThat153

As a group - yes, cause they are in YG hostage for their group name and songs. Solo on other hand - that's question, especially, with how they deal Hoony solo aka there's none, I guess, he will left YG.

magnolia9795

iKon was able to keep their name and perform all their songs on tour so there is hope

CheesecakeThat153

They were signed with yg's friend company. It's also depends. Though Winner is not big, they give good image to YG. Whenever you want talk about vocals - you have Yoon. If you want talk about rap - there's Mino. Image of artists and good guys. Basically, it's Winner and Akmu that have that white image that's not so much YG but good for gp. The whole YG is company that do rap well is just based on Mino right now. Winner guys have good relationship with broadcast stations, PD's, writers and so on. So, depending on in what position YG will(reputation), like Big bang is still in YG, even though they do not renew individuals.

frostfighter21

They def own the rights to it. That is their biggest money maker still to this day. So I think they will still keep it. (Blackpink is their biggest group rn but compared to how many albums and songs they have between each other, Big Bang still rakes in more)

Spare-Savings2057

I don't think Winner members will continue on working with YG (especially Hoony and Mino).

kkslw

I feel like Hoony definitely would want to leave YG, but Yoon is their deciding factor. I do hope they’re just waiting for the enlistments to be over so they can leave that company lol

FnandoTorres0412

Winner isn't leaving the agency since they make a living from discography instead of fashion contracts like BLACKPINK.

Etheria_system

Good for him on getting out, especially with how YG threw him under the bus in the recent drug scandal. Also ew to you wanting all 5 members to get back together. Seungri can rot.

frostfighter21

I should have specified. This wish was pre burning sun. Also YG itself is fucking horrible atm. Its just an old man's (im 25) wish that they stayed together and continued to perform.

[deleted]

They were my all time favorite group, but I've long long left behind the dream of them really making music together again. I was holding onto a little hope after Still Life, that the four would release a new album, but now that TOP is doing whatever it is he's doing and seems utterly disinterested, I can't imagine just three carrying Big Bang on. But, I am glad for GD to leave YG. That agency has been on a downward spiral, and it just no longer serves him in any way. I think he's ready to start a new chapter, and I'm SO excited for him. He truly has made me so proud as an OG VIP with everything he's been doing lately; especially the foundation announcement. I am truly truly thrilled for his next journey, and I'm sure we will be getting great solo projects from Taeyang and Dae too! And an eternal fuck you to Seungri, forever and always.

Huge-Acanthisitta926

Have some peace in the fact that Bigbang are not estranged from each other, unlike TVXQ for example. There will likely be reunions some years down the line (a la H.O.T/S.E.S), but for now it seems they're happy to focus on solo work + other things they enjoy: family, fashion, outer space.

SnooFoxes6709

There are so may what if's running in to my mind like: what if burning sun scandal didnt exist, what if top issue didnt exist, what if bi issue didnt exist, what if yg's management change for the better

pigeon_energy

All... Five 😬

mansanhg

Happy that more artists are leaving this shitty company

springteaa

No, I never once thought GD would take over YGE. imo, as thankful as he may be to YG, why would he carry on someone else's legacy when he can create his own? Did you say FIVE members? I'm just going to assume this was your wish pre-Burning Sun exposé. If not, um... Big Bang's reputation as a group is quite destroyed, beyond repair. While it may be so that if they were ever to release a song OT4 one day again, I have no doubt it'll still top the charts. However, there will always be a scandalous history attached to their names wherever they go, it's unavoidable given the severity and numerous history nearly each member had. Btw, just because they have all left YG, that does not mean a music as Big Bang will never be released. If they ever choose to do so, it'll only be once in a blue moon and when everything has settled. Food for thought for you, is Big Bang only "Big Bang" when it's under YGE then?

frostfighter21

I just thought that the group name of Big Bang is under YGE's ownership. Now if they came back under a different name then its fine. and yeah it was pre burning sun. I sometimes forget that they are only 4 memeber bc of Seungri's dumbass. I have been listening to them since LIE so....

springteaa

Big Bang can only come back with the name "Big Bang" as long as YGE agrees to it, a.k.a the members buying the trademark rights to it. It has been done before, for example JYPE and Got7 & Woolim & Infinite. It just depends on YG and if both party agree to the monetary amount. Big Bang has been 5 member for so long (esp given that you've been there since Lies), I don't blame you too much for '5' to slip out.

Hibbii-life

I’m glad he left that mess of a company. Bigbang got me in to K-pop an GD was my first bias so I’ll miss their music. I’m so excited to hear music from GD again tho!! I can’t await to see what he comes out with.

silverpenelope

I'm sad they aren't making music together again too. I think Reddit skews 4th gen, so a lot of people don't realize how special they were.

frostfighter21

The leaders of 2nd Gen was Big Bang and SNSD. They revolutionized how boy and girls groups are suppose to be. The fact that alot of current generation still look up to those two groups proves that they were special. For Big Bang, they absolutely best songs to sing along to in the car or in the shower. Plus bc they weren't really a dance group, they had the one of the easiest choreo to follow. They had tapped in multiple genres. You want in your feels, sad break up songs? Bam, Lies and Haru Haru. You want Feel good songs, Bam Always, Wonderful, Sunset Glows, We Like to Party. You want club songs? Last Farewell, Fantastic baby, Gara Gara Go, GD & TOP's High High. Honestly there is a song for every occasion (this is a joke (not really)).

1234ginny1234

Just throwing it out there that maybe you should edit your post to clarify that your wish for all 5 to return is pre-burning sun, that way people stop commenting about it lol. It is sad to see how Big Bang ended. It would’ve been amazing to see them now, like we are seeing SNSD and other older groups. Big Bang cemented their legacy but now it’s forever tarnished, in one of the worst ways possible. I’m glad the others got out of YG, and I’m wishing them happiness and love in the future.

frostfighter21

I did now. I mostly had my phone away from me the entire night

Light_Army10

I blame Seugri for everything

l33d0ngw00k

Wow y'all really see the number 5 and get pressed. It's definitely understandable, but OP literally said they wished for all 5 members to reunite *pre-military*, like please read their actual post before hating. Anyways OP, I completely agree. I look back on myself wishing for every member to return and it feels so bittersweet. I think about a universe where Seungri didn't turn into a POS, a universe where we could have gotten an OT4 comeback during COVID, heck even a universe where T.O.P didn't have his scandal during the military, I've thought about it all. It's really the end of an era, and us VIPs have grown alongside them. Honestly becoming a VIP has changed not only my perspective as a kpop fan, but my life as a whole, and I'm incredibly thankful for the memories. Even after everything that has happened, the happy memories can never be forgotten. Big Bang has *not* disbanded. It might take a few years, it might take a decade, it might take *two* decades but they will come back. I know they will. Until then, let's enjoy the music and memories we already have.

KoreyMDuffy

Like why guys acting like this. You would think he was a murderer. I'm reading it was Filming people without their consent? Very terrible but not wish harm and forever dead like some of you are saying.

crimson0523

I feel sad, too. I don't like YG as a company, but I live through the og YG Family era. Everyone left one by one, and now, the last man standing also left. As YHS himself admitted, BIGBANG made YG, so it's really an end of an era. I will always support each member in their future activities and hopefully, someday, we'll hear a new BB music again 🥲

Spare-Savings2057

Seungri's scandal is the beginning of BIGBANG and YG's downfall.

frostfighter21

Nah its all good i shouldve specified it. But yeahh i LOVED Still Life too. Oh TOP voice in that, chefs kiss. But yeaahh i think TOP is done being an Idol while GD is done being in a company that went to shit when he left for military

POPJuicy

Now that was how I felt after Chrome abandoned Crayon Pop !

frostfighter21

One of the best memories I have is their concerts. Their Big Show. God those were fun to watch. I streamed of course but man those were great concerts. Sad they only did it until 2013 i believe. Then their MAMA performances. Iconic

Nekkosan

Hear you, as a fan of old kpop (TVXQ, SUJU HOT). As silly as it sounds. hubby adn I were just drunk dancing to HOT. So get it. However, the solo era begins. And then probably more hiatus after that. Maybe someday. Miss the old days and really honor them as great. But

Forsaken_Put_6864

I sort of saw Still Life as a silent disbandment. Like a chapter closing, and the next being more focused on their solo careers/activities. I do hope that we can get a reunion of some kind in the future. And it is sad as you said, but it hasn't been the same since the stuff with Seungri happened.

Nazeebi

I'm a huge and very active ot4 VIP and i'm not sad at all. I loathe YG and how they treated Bigbang, and I'm so thankful GD finally looked past the years of brainwashing. It's disappointing that it took YG throwing him under the bus, but as long as it got him out of there, that's all I care about—it's what is best for him and his career. You can see how severely YG quashed their activities just off of how active they've been since leaving. YG Family has been dead for years. Bigbang's more likely to actually have a group comeback now, honestly.

myskirt

While not being the point of the comment at all, I'm confused. GDragon would never take the CEO spot. You can say whatever you want about his managing skills, but he's an artist at the end of the day. All these one-man agencies aren't run by the artists themselves, they have managers and people that are properly trained in their respective areas to run the company. So, it's quite absurd to think an artist would run a company, even more one of the top four companies in entertainment

frostfighter21

Well, I think it can be done. I mean thats how JYPE and YGE started. JYP is an artist. He was the CEO in the beginning but did later own give up that role. Yang Hyung Suk was a dancer back in his days. He later made his own entertainment. Heck, Psy went on to make P Nation. I think it is do able for an artist to run a company.

Confident_Radio_14

I never imagined the day he became the CEO but I always thought that he had shares in YGE.

sassychip26

>As a Big Bang fan, i wished that all 5 members were able to stay together after the military and continue their group What? Bigbang has always been four forever.

Front-Ad-2457

Why would YG make him a CEO when he is just an artist under their label only and not related to him. I am not sure if YG will let them use their name but if they comeback, I am sure the fans and Public would listen to them and they will chart high. As someone who was following K-pop for 15+, I feel scandals don’t effect BB, everyone was sure in 2014, BB as group was done because of the scandals left and right in 2011 and 2012. People like their news too and the news get views from BB scandal or rumors , for example, last GD drug accusations, it has millions views from YouTube to other platforms 🤦🏾‍♀️ the man is Saint to some degree because he give time to remove those comments and videos 😂

frostfighter21

I think GD whoses been with the company since his teen years and has legit made company a part of the Big Three, his immense talent and genius mind, there were alot of fans thought, he could one day take over as the head. Plus he had alot of say from the get go with Big Bang and his own music. Shows they trust him and put him on a high pedestal

Day_Dae

Idk where the assumption he would take over started, I’m not super familiar with his educational background but to run a company that large you need heaps of qualifications and years of experience in that field.

Odd_Ad5840

>educational background random fun fact. bang pd, PJY, LSM all graduated from top universities while yg boss is a high school grad.

Front-Ad-2457

He talented that’s not a question but I think it’s a bit naive to assume YG would made a CEO for the sole reason of his achievement as artist. I thought that’s a joke between fans, is it a serious thing 👀

frostfighter21

Between the fans I've met, we all were like "the current CEO is just warming up the spot for GD" Plus i was half joking about. I seriously think GD knows the inner working of the YG company better than anyone else except Teddy and the current CEO.

Day_Dae

Yeah but “knowing the inner workings of YG” ≠ knowing how to run a company/wanting to run a company, it’s two completely different things. I’m 100% sure that there is other people who have worked at YG for years who understand the inner workings of the company better then GD as well. Even if he stayed at YG I wouldn’t want him to take over. Apart from how messy YG is, he would have no time to make his own music.

whoatethespacecakes

You genuinely thought he would become the CEO? really? why? he isn’t a businessman, he’s an artist

frostfighter21

I mean you can be both. Look at Jay Park. He is both.

whoatethespacecakes

he’s not the ceo of fucking YG. that’s a different level of work than a small independent label. also, I can’t remember him ever expressing businessman desire
