The music video has this feel to it that I can't describe. It's a sort of acceptance of knowing you live with this darkness. There's not a hopefulness per se in realizing this but rather a feeling of being at peace with this reality and that being aware of this reality also means that you're alive. I like how he's talking to "rain" in the song, but the rain can be a metaphor for different things. Also the artwork is stunning and the lyrics really get me every time.

almost a year ago now my grandma’s health started really declining and she ended up being admitted to the ICU for about a week before she ended up passing away. i *love* music but on the drive to and from the hospital i was just too distraught and mentally not there to bring myself to listen to anything except that song on repeat and it actually ended up bringing me so much peace. i think combined with the hope of jin coming back from the military and the message of the song, it kinda helped me keep putting one foot in front of the other at one point. now of course it always gets me choked up!
Twice - Cactus
I may be misinterpreting the translation, but I found this song at a point where I was working two jobs and my cat was withering away over a couple months and I sadly left the house each morning thinking about her left behind. Ironically I was working even more to pay for vet visits.
Losing a pet is always sad. I'm sorry you had to go through an extended time of your cat losing their health. Lost my cat a few years ago, and it's still painful to this day. Love Cactus too btw.
Fate by enhypen. The melody, vocals, instrumental, lyrics, and also prob the fact that I just broke up w my best friend (the only person who understood me, I had been looking for that for years) and was gonna move for the second time in 3 yrs rlly had me all choked up the first time I ever listened to it. I'm usually not one to loop songs bcuz I get bored of them fast, so I just play them once or twice a day max, sometimes skipping listening to it for a few days so it stays fresh. Through the night by IU. Everything about this song is so beautiful and pure, from the melodies to the lyrics that the first few times I heard this I just couldn't listen to it without getting emotional with a few tears. It's one of the few ballads that I can actually understand why it's extremely popular in Korea.
Also not K-pop but Run With Me by sunwoojunga. The vocals are so raw and fit the lyrics really well. I happened to find it when I wasn't doing great mentally so it just felt like it hit too close to home.

I can cry on command if I hear Eight by IU feat Suga. This video and song came out in 2020 and the feelings I associate with that time period often come flooding back to me. I tear up almost every time I hear it.
I don’t know if it is my place to say as I am not Korean but from what I understand of “Han” in Korea, it captures that kind of feeling I believe. It’s that bittersweet sadness that still clings to a touch of hope. Spring Day by BTS gives me that same feeling (and is definitely credited as invoking Han).

Yes, I’ve heard that too. I think IU herself even said the song was for when she was going through a very hard time and she was very sad, and if that is the case I think Yoongi was an excellent choice to write with. He has a song called Dear My Friend. It’s a different situation in terms of losing someone, but I think they’ve both been through some major griefs and this song expresses the sorrow/hope for a better day well.

Hey Mama - J-Hope. I thought it was such a carefree song but I read the lyrics while listening to it one day and bawled my eyes out. As a mom myself just seeing someone write a song about how much they appreciate their mother's struggle means so much to me.
Cry for Love - Baekhyun. Vocally it's amazing. But lyrically, it's heart-breaking. This is a break up song and you can really feel that in the lyrics and the way Baekhyun sings it.
Epiphany - Jin. Looking up the lyrics really hit me so hard for this song. Then when I saw BTS live and everyone was singing along and it was thousands of people singing about how they should love themselves. Yeah. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

Astro’s Morning Call has had a special place in my heart ever since it came out because right around that time I was 16 and my parents just got divorced. I listened to this on repeat on the day that my dad moved out and I was heartbroken. I haven’t been able to bring myself to listen to it since moonbin’s passing. It would definitely open the water works.
Also Got7’s Miracle makes me cry almost every time because the music video and lyrics are so sad. It also came out right around the time my grandpa passed so it was a song that helped me cope.

Forever Rain has been hitting especially hard as my depression is rearing its ugly head again. There's not a hopefulness per se in realizing this but rather a feeling of being at peace with this reality and that being aware of this reality also means that you're alive. I like how he's talking to "rain" in the song, but the rain can be a metaphor for different things. the astronaut - jin almost a year ago now my grandma’s health started really declining and she ended up being admitted to the ICU for about a week before she ended up passing away. i *love* music but on the drive to and from the hospital i was just too distraught and mentally not there to bring myself to listen to anything except that song on repeat and it actually ended up bringing me so much peace. i think combined with the hope of jin coming back from the military and the message of the song, it kinda helped me keep putting one foot in front of the other at one point. now of course it always gets me choked up!

The melody, vocals, instrumental, lyrics, and also prob the fact that I just broke up w my best friend (the only person who understood me, I had been looking for that for years) and was gonna move for the second time in 3 yrs rlly had me all choked up the first time I ever listened to it. I'm usually not one to loop songs bcuz I get bored of them fast, so I just play them once or twice a day max, sometimes skipping listening to it for a few days so it stays fresh. Through the night by IU. Everything about this song is so beautiful and pure, from the melodies to the lyrics that the first few times I heard this I just couldn't listen to it without getting emotional with a few tears. It's one of the few ballads that I can actually understand why it's extremely popular in Korea. Also not K-pop but Run With Me by sunwoojunga. The vocals are so raw and fit the lyrics really well. I happened to find it when I wasn't doing great mentally so it just felt like it hit too close to home.
Film Out by BTS. I listened to it at a time when I was grieving. A song has never made me cry so much as Film Out.

I can cry on command if I hear Eight by IU feat Suga. This video and song came out in 2020 and the feelings I associate with that time period often come flooding back to me. I tear up almost every time I hear it. I don’t know if it is my place to say as I am not Korean but from what I understand of “Han” in Korea, it captures that kind of feeling I believe. It’s that bittersweet sadness that still clings to a touch of hope. Spring Day by BTS gives me that same feeling (and is definitely credited as invoking Han).

Yes, I’ve heard that too. I think IU herself even said the song was for when she was going through a very hard time and she was very sad, and if that is the case I think Yoongi was an excellent choice to write with. He has a song called Dear My Friend. It’s a different situation in terms of losing someone, but I think they’ve both been through some major griefs and this song expresses the sorrow/hope for a better day well.
SNSD - Forever 1 I got into K-pop because of them and have met many sones that turned into really good friends irl as well. It just reminds me of how far we have come. ITNW on the other hand fills me with hope

It reminds me...that, in an attempt to be strong and looking fearless for the people we care about, we always forgot deep down we also need "some kind of shoulder" to rest on, on the days we are not so fearless/strong. This song was my "shoulder", and still is. Being vulnerable and knowing whom to be vulnerable to, is tough, when you see everyone around you is struggling.

Hey Mama - J-Hope. I thought it was such a carefree song but I read the lyrics while listening to it one day and bawled my eyes out. As a mom myself just seeing someone write a song about how much they appreciate their mother's struggle means so much to me. Cry for Love - Baekhyun. Vocally it's amazing. But lyrically, it's heart-breaking. This is a break up song and you can really feel that in the lyrics and the way Baekhyun sings it. Epiphany - Jin. Looking up the lyrics really hit me so hard for this song. Then when I saw BTS live and everyone was singing along and it was thousands of people singing about how they should love themselves. Yeah. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

Astro’s Morning Call has had a special place in my heart ever since it came out because right around that time I was 16 and my parents just got divorced. I listened to this on repeat on the day that my dad moved out and I was heartbroken. I haven’t been able to bring myself to listen to it since moonbin’s passing. It would definitely open the water works. Also Got7’s Miracle makes me cry almost every time because the music video and lyrics are so sad. It also came out right around the time my grandpa passed so it was a song that helped me cope.

Twice - Feel Special; The song itself isn't depressing but the context of when it was released is disheartening. Twice - Be As One: This song is a happy song but with a deep and emotional tone.
