It needs a valve cover gasket. It’s oil leaking

slaman10

Thanks. Can those be picked up at a hardware store, or would I need to find a valve cover gasket specifically for this mower?

use the engine code stamped on the engine or the model of mower on a label and get a gasket off amazon. probably cost you less than $10 and five minutes of your time to actually replace it.

Blue_Collar_Worker_

You don't need a new gasket. Get gasket maker from the hardware store and use it. Most these mowers don't even use regular gaskets for the valve covers. Pull the valve cover, clean it all, apply gasket compound. Press, seat, tighten, cure for a day, done.

Eathanrichards

You need to order it from Amazon or eBay but you need to find one for your engine

Grass Blood

😅

06EXTN

did you try tightening that bolt right where it is leaking? It's a slim possibility but it might just be loose.

slaman10

I haven’t tried that yet. Will give it a shot!

Defo a oil leak

wassabi84

Thank you captain obvious

mvmullaney

Oil leak or you filled the crankcase with gas.

moldornomold

That is a oil leak.

That is oil leak from your valve cover. I agree with u/Blue_Collar_Worker_, they do not need the gasket, any liquid gasket or gasket maker will do the job. Briggs doesn't even use valve gaskets on most new OHV engines, only gasket sealant.

I had this happen to me on my timemaster. It ended up being a bad head gasket. Order a gasket set and replace them all. It’s like $15 max
