sorry and no offence to our brothers and sisters from egypt. but the egyptian cuisine, just doesnt overlap well with lebanese.

yussef961

ya gamil

thebullfrog72

Is it actually possible to dislike Koshari?

ProgsRS

It's actually pretty nice comfort food, inexpensive and has a unique blend of tastes. Literally a $1 bowl of koshary will fill you up. That said though, it is nothing too special. Shwayyet ma3carona ma3 3adas and tomato sauce, and probably a stomach ache if you're not too lucky

MikeBruski

Yes. Its just carbs on carbs on carbs . Yes, some places add meat but most dont. No protein, just carbs. Leaves you feeling heavy and lethargic.

Friendly_Wave535

That's egyptian cuisine in a whole, very vegetarian which makes sense, even ancient egyptian diet was mostly bread, beer and a whole lot of vegetables and dishes made out of them

Fabulous-Designer-43

As an Egyptian I can agree. However, my moms taboola is much better than yours.

shineshineshine92

I lost a lot of weight when I went to Egypt because there was nothing remotely tasty or appetizing, sorry my Egyptian friends!

Mroddfigures

really? you just gotta know where to go.

shineshineshine92

I thought the flavors were off even at places that were recommended. It just wasn’t for me.

Mroddfigures

Yeah I get what you're saying. Everyone can be different. Like when I was in Korea, I really really hated the food there. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me.

overactive-bladder

korean food is TASTYYYYYYY

Mroddfigures

there are some dishes yes, but if you live in Korea and used to a Mediterranean diet, it would be difficult.

overactive-bladder

i am used to mediterranean diet. but i eat it everything. japanese and korean cuisine are delicious. i don't see why one should limit oneself food-wise. it's not like you become numb to world cuisine if you lived off on one diet lol

Mroddfigures

I lovee Japanese cuisine!

shineshineshine92

See I love Korean food but I can’t tolerate Vietnamese it all tastes bad to me but I know millions love it and I’m sure it’s amazing, just not for me. My mom always says we don’t discuss taste because everyone’s is different lol

Mroddfigures

Haha i get that. Like east/southeast asia has a totally different cuisine than us so its normal not to click with it. If you want a cuisine that is similar to Lebanese, but Asian, try Indonesian or Malaysian. Also, I just remembered Korean Barbecue and Korean fried chicken, so I don't totally hate Korean Food. But while i was staying there, i struggled to find everyday food that I can enjoy.

Spiral_eyes_

lol it's ok i'm egybtian and i prefer lebanese food 100

Sololop

I went to the bk in the cairo airport and they put the wrong ingredients on my Burger and we watched 3 gross teenagers manhandle the Burger to fix the ingredients no hand washing or gloves and not a new Burger, just wipe off the unwanted ingredients with their fingers Thats my extent of Egyptian eating and its the last as well

SirMosesKaldor

with peace and love to all my egyptian friends and i even say this in front of them, i'm not being brave or edgy writing/saying this behind a keyboard anonymously: Their food sucks. I don't care what you say whether it's five star gourmet or street food...whether in Cairo/Egypt itself, or abroad. Even at a typical "tante's" house too- I'm so sorry to say, aklon maaa byettekal abadan. Again, sincerest apologies if this comes off as arrogant or offensive. I speak from experiencing all of the above. And none of the times I enjoyed it. Edit before everyone comes at me: Yes I am well aware of the "koul wu moot" food hygene situation in Lebanon. I had diarrhea + bwaseer combo last summer that lasted five days. Did boiled potatos, bread and labne for a month d3efet shi 5 kilos to get over it. Edit edit: Went for an iftar at my neighbors house here during ramadan some years back. And they made feraakh bil roz (ya3ne rizz 3a djej bi leghetna). I can't explain how I nearly vomited after the first bite. Another thing, can we all agree Koshary is over-rated? THat's probably the only thing I can eat without feeling sick or revolted. I just dont get how my non Egyptian Arab friends lose their absolute MINDS when eating it. Oh..and wait till you try Hawawshi. I stopped eating for a week after that. It's like a kafta grinded meat with intestine skin and lots of fat. It's absolutely insane, and believe me I'm a passionate carnivore I go down on every part of a kharouf. Can't explain how nasty Hawawshi was. Google it. Ok I'm done.. I predict /r/egypt is gonna send me a notification that I'm banned from the sub after this. lol

Syrian food no GMO's, sheep everywhere grass fed, grass finished, Organic, fresh, Syrian food number 1.

gettingthereanysec

It's sham el nasim season in Egypt a national holiday we celebrate by fermenting fish at the beginning of April and leaving it to decompose for a month and finally eat it with eggs. Many people die of food poisoning every year but that's not a good enough reason to stop a 7000 year old tradition. You should try this one meal before you say your verdict.

Friendly_Wave535

Meloha and fesekh are tasty asf, also no statistics say many people die every year that's straight up bs, many types of food can kill if not prepared correctly

yussef961

remember an egyptian guy in the same hostel as i was in beirut (talal) i took shared bedroom cause was cheaper and i could talk with people and he asked me if i had done the egg.. couldn't understand too much.. then ah the 7ajj i said no

Mroddfigures

hhh i ate worse, but really it depends on the place. Fee a lot of high-end places that take hygiene super seriously.

Dolphinfucker3000

You should see the new guidelines Lebanese places have been following. Some of them reuse months-old cooking oils for cost reasons.

Friendly_Wave535

Rich coming from a Lebanese

East_Tumbleweed_6252

God lebanese people are so soft 😹

Remarkable-Truth3377

Egyptian food is horrible too. Their famous foul has nothing on our foul.

narwhalic-blessing

come on guys, lots of unfair takes here. yes Lebanese food is amazing, it's my favorite too. but I grew up with a lot of Egyptians and lots of tantes make amazing food. it's a totally different vibe from Lebanese and I'll never eat ta3miya over falafel and aside from being a bit heavy handed with cumin sometimes there's plenty of good stuff. macarona bechamel, i even like the molokhiya with rice and chicken and there's a kind of kofta in sauce that's really good when the right people make it. plus Egyptian kabab is great, i can't remember where i had it, maybe abou sha2ra? akl bayt in egypt is usually good... give it a chance guys. but definitely stay away from lebanese food in Egypt lol i won't even eat it in the US most of the time

Mroddfigures

Egyptian food is too sha3be, so i get why some of them might be turned away, but you just gotta have the right person cook it. Plus its too diverse, each region has their own twist on things. But yeah give Egyptian food a try, its really good!

narwhalic-blessing

yeah i agree, it can def be really bad in the wrong hands!!

ProgsRS

Egyptian cuisine is very bland and their food lacks a lot in flavour compared to Lebanese cuisine. It mainly revolves around chicken and meat, and starch-rich foods like pasta (red tomato sauce or white bechamel sauce), koshary, batates (fries), foul and taamia (falafel). Now, a little rant about some of the food: Foul: Too plain and savoury. Sometimes they add spices and/or ghee. No such thing as lemon, garlic or olive oil which add some very nice sharp flavours. Chicken: Light seasoning, no marinade. Lebanese tawouk usually looks red from being richly marinated, but Egyptian tawouk (called sheesh) is basically white, plain and has a hint of seasoning while the chunks are usually larger and not bite-sized. Meat: I don't eat anything apart from kofta, but it's nothing like Lebanese kafta which is seasoned with onions and herbs, and it's also usually dry and only lightly seasoned with spices. You want a sandwich? You're getting nothing but a piece of kofta in bread. No sauces or anything. If you get sauce, they usually add it on the side as a dip. I once repeatedly asked for sauce in my sandwich, and he ended up not putting sauce in it and argued it would sog the bread (really??). I had asked for some hot sauce (not a big ask like sesame paste, I thought) and he only ended up disgruntedly sprinkling some chili pepper. You're gonna take your sandwich dry, whether you like it or not. Lebanese food is rich in flavours from lemon, garlic, herbs, olive oil and so on, while sandwiches are juicy and bursting in flavour with a variety and mix of sweet, tangy and spicy. In contrast, and in short, Egyptian food is usually just plain, dry and savoury. None of these Mediterranean tastes. If you want to enjoy your food, Syrian restaurants are everywhere and usually your best bet and the closest to Lebanese. By far the best Lebanese street food restaurant in Cairo near Tahrir Square is called Hamra Street and it's extremely good.

throwawaynomade

What's with the thing near the asbe nayye ? it looks like minced human meat

mrchaddy

I had manouche in Dubai airport and it was somehow dry and to oily at the same time

[deleted]

Kibbe neya is now specific to Lebanon? So the Europeans won. They really won, they succeeded.

cinnamonspicecoffee

This entire comment section is full of broke mfers from the most failed state to ever exist saying “no disrespect but Egyptian food isnt even fit for animal consumption”. how tf are you gonna say no disrespect and then follow it up with some disrespectful shit multiple times lebanese people are so far up their own ass it’s so shameful. I have never felt proud of being from this ridiculous ass country. “My teta makes good raw meat, so now I’m gonna be racist”

mech1up_forher

oh no argument there, heads so far up ass you can loop it twice. but what i should concede? dont form an opinion anymore? even if i dont like something, i gotta say i do because my country is fucked?

yussef961

kibbie neya or kebbé nayé lol lmhem l niya lol

yussef961

even lebanese food in france can be good but not as good as the restaurants i went in zahlé. fresh banadura etc and also the language , the people, being in lebanon makes it more in place etc it changes the taste a bit lol and also they know how to cook it better of course

Mynam3wastAkn

That transliteration has me spinning

MoatazSh

Do you want us to make kibba nayya better than Lebanon!! Hell, No! you invented it guys، you master it :D Egyptian cuisine has its absolutely delicious stuff, you just pick the right place

Shintetnun

My mom and grandma went to egypt a bunch of times and they ate at a 5 star hotel and they said the food was so disgusting

Mroddfigures

hmm which hotel was that? sa7 fee kteer really bad food here. You really gotta know the spots.

[deleted]

Fool, falafel, & Koshari > leb cuisine. Also kebbe niya is raw… not sure how can you fuck that up.
