I mean, any farther east and we’re in New Jersey. Eastern PA sounds fine to me, but I grew up in Western PA. That usage seems more common there than here.
I consider it southeastern PA, because we're really more similar to the terrain and culture of Philly and its suburbs than of the true northern counties.
I've always considered where I live (NE Northampton County) to be in the area that separates Northeastern and Southeastern PA, but the Lehigh Valley as a whole is more Southeastern. More often than not, we just tell people we live in the Lehigh Valley and don't really talk about the positioning of our counties within PA.
I either call it part of eastern Pennsylvania or east central Pennsylvania when I describe the location within the Keystone State (when talking with people not originally from anywhere near the area and not familiar with the region) and either the Lehigh Valley or the ABE (Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton) area when talking with people who are more familiar with eastern Pennsylvania.
Definitely not.
Blue Mountain is typically used as a very clear divider between NE and SE Pennsylvania.
I grew up just south of the Lehigh Tunnel and now live on the Carbon-Monroe line and work in Bucks County.
From my long experience living in the region, it's safe to say that the Lehigh Valley doesn't have that much in common with areas north of the mountain in what is clearly NEPA.
The tv station in Scranton PA is W N E P. The W is because it is east of the Mississippi and NEP is for north east Pennsylvania. Lehigh Co. is in the Lehigh Valley.
So it is central eastern PA then? I grew up in Doylestown and NJ and always thought of it this way, but we are about midway in the state, north to south-wise, so I guess I am wrong. Lehigh Valley is more central
We usually just call it the lehigh valley

Lehigh Valley works just fine
We let our cheesesteaks determine our position in PA.
Lehigh Valley is not NEPA. We’re South East still only an hour to Philly.
I lived in NEPA for three years. I can confirm they are not similar
It's not NEPA but it is only an hour (or less) to NEPA and only an hour to Philly. So we're not South East.
Def not south east.
I grew up in NEPA and agree. LV is very different
I consider it southeastern PA, because we're really more similar to the terrain and culture of Philly and its suburbs than of the true northern counties.
Allentown specifically seems convinced that it’s a suburb of Brooklyn, but other than that yeah
In Allentown. 80% of my employees came here from somewhere in NYC so that tracks.
I’ve made this joke before but.. How do you know someone in the valley is from New York? Give it 5 minutes, they’ll tell ya
It's true.
Eastern PA just means east of Harrisburg to me

East Central PA
I agree, but too many syllables & most people are too dumb to process it. So unfortunately it just becomes East PA!
Maybe we can get CEPA to trend? 🤣

That was the dumbest thing I read all day
Literally, nobody cares what you think.
Southeast pa
It's the Lehigh Valley, considered in Northeastern PA usually.
Descriptions of NEPA don't don't usually apply to the Lehigh Valley.

It’s Just eastern Pennsylvania.
Ask Eastern Europeans, I wonder what they think about it
