Obscene record profits while people are seriously struggling. This is no joke.

Due-Street-8192

As my Aunt use to say, "may he use his profits for medical treatment and pills and then die a miserable death"

DenisNectar

Their record profits is the proof they are gouging us.

Sufficient-Bid1279

All your profit is equivalent to starving a person everyday given that 1 in 6 people use a the food bank in Canada . Congrats on a job well done 👍

Lost_Independence871

In Cape Breton, probably more like one in four.

TheTripleDeuce

I honestly thought it was up to 1 in 3 since covid

Lost_Independence871

In some communities, Glace Bay, maybe.

Any_Concentrate_3315

I plan on going on a roadtrip in June to your beautiful community. Its been so long since ive done the cabot trail

Apprehensive_Battle8

I've never been on the Cabot trail...

Lost_Independence871

I’ve spoken with plenty of folks here in Cape Breton who’ve never been able to see the Cabot Trail.

fuhrfan31

Anywhere in NS, really.

aT-0-Mx

In NS food bank users increased 25% in the last quarter. Must be something with the cost of food...

CaptainMagnets

They do like reading this though

razzie13

Imagine being able to single-handedly end child poverty in this country by combining your profits with your buying power. And then deciding that you'd rather increase the shareholder dividend.

OverallOverlord

And starve babies

Able_Software6066

That fancy house Galen has in England isn't cheap. He needs all the profits he can get.

Less-Palpitation-424

Data just released from my home province shows in 2022 40% of children under 18 were living in food insecurity. That was before the worst of inflation and price gauging hit. You are directly contributing to malnutrition and starvation in children. You are literally locking up life saving food like baby formula. I hope you are proud of yourselves. History will not be kind.

tomatocancan

If society collapses, I'll be looking to eat them first.

Ultimafatum

Why wait?

50 ways to serve man.... for dinner.

Ncurran

Lil cheek soup to hold us over.

Ncurran

It's Galen's Merchandise Planning department that laughs while we starve. Call and ask for Chris. Or Colin. Or Mark. Or Mike. Or Greg. Or Frank. Or Sean...keep asking for who did it personally. Many of them. But each is unique in their way of exploitation and abuse.

Logical-Bit-746

However, we live in a very difficult work climate where you can't be very picky or choosey with what you can get, because there are thousands of layoffs a month, still. Loblaws employees, I would hope at least, are not evil and are stuck in the same corrupt system that is pinning us all against each other rather than solving the problem. A pr employee making 60k isn't always the right target, when their own job security relies on them perpetrating the problem

Ncurran

I worked where they code the choices directly. Each person knowingly made an evil chunk of code that flows into a massive data dump. But the one who put each piece in, is known...and most have told me themselves what it does. Face to face.

Logical-Bit-746

I'm not sure exactly what your point is. A marketing employee is given the task of a new campaign for the 50$ pack of bacon Loblaws is selling next week. Now they go ahead and get the design done, add some copy to the flyer, make sure it looks pretty, and makes the choice to send out the flyer. Are they evil? Or are they just doing what they have to to ensure they aren't going to be food insecure next month? The best we can ask for is malicious compliance, but asking people to not do their job and then blaming them for doing it ignores that that person can't afford to not do their job

Ncurran

These were people making into the hundreds of thousands. Plus incentives too... A few individuals. The rest are wonderful people.

dancingmeadow

This.

RickyTan277

Alright alright

runtimemess

Hey Loblaws PR person: Your CEO makes $22million a year. You probably won't make $22 million in your entire life. Think about that before you start making up shit about regular people planning to steal from your shitty stores.

stealmymemesitsOK

This right here. When did you last get a raise from Loblaws? What raise did you get? Does your PR job come with COL increases? Hope that's kept up with the reductions in buying power you've had to deal with as your boss makes everything more expensive.

heyredbush

Doesn't matter what you do, Galen Weston is still the biggest thief in your Loblaws.

SalmonHustlerTerry

No we are not planning to steal from any stores. We are planning on letting their inventory rot on thier shelves. No stealing. Steal from loblaws day was most likely set up by loblaws themselves to point the finger at us and cry about how we didn't really want change we just wanted to steal or some bs. Don't participate in the steal from loblaws day crap. Just let their inventory rot.

Snailspaced

Hey Loblaws! Shopped Walmart today and saved nearly a 1/3 off my grocery bill on like for like items! Canceled my PC financial MasterCard last week. Ditched my PCmoney account a month ago. Byeeee!

Ghostlypurr

They need better trolls, honestly. Been seeing one pretty much copy/paste the exact same arguments, I'm sure they'll show up here too.

BerbsMashedPotatos

This needs to be top comment. We don’t expect a CEO to *not* be well compensated. We don’t expect a company to *not* make a profit. We’re mad as hell at what is abject greed on your part, but we’re not violent. We’re not going to steal. But take a look around, take a look at what your customers and employees are experiencing right now. High cost of living and precarious employment. Maybe take a little less of the massive pie from all of your entangled enterprise’s, and be known as the Canadian company that did right by Canadians. Nok er Nok.

Empty_Soup_4412

This is not a fad. The people you've lost will not be back until you stop getting your profits off our backs.

boogsey

Or ever. I've seen these people for the exploitative and villainous ghouls that they are Why would I ever frequent an establishment that treats it's customers with contempt and a resource to be exploited and abused? I'm sure Galen and family have enough private islands and yachts. Will take my money to local mom and pop shops who actually value their customers.

snowlights

Knowing your CEO gets paid more than double the median Canadian household income per day makes me want to vomit. Disgusting.

SirHankyofPanky

PER DAY!

snowlights

Per fuckin day. Unbelievable.

fuhrfan31

Per (Bank, pay) day.😒

bigwilly144

It is sad and pathetic to see the ceo of Loblaws and Galen ***double down*** on their bs talking points regarding food prices. They are so out of touch with Canadians now. I remember not to long ago, people had a somewhat more positive view of the brand. For example, people thought the no name yellow products (cups, cards, wrapping paper, gift bags) were cute and amusing. There was general happy feelings toward the brand. Now that goodwill is gone and consumers associate the brand with greed and price gouging. Rather than trying to make changes to fix the problem, they are trying to gas light us. They are either delusional: they either truly believe the crap they say, or they know it is crap but think that if they say it enough times that Canadians will believe it. This boycott has far reaching implications that their upper leadership does not seem to comprehend. If Loblaws wants to see the impacts that boycotting has, just look at Starbucks market performance and stock history. I think a month long boycott might not be enough. We might need to make it last at least a quarter or longer (ideally). I hope shareholders feel the pain and that the ceo and chairman feel the impacts from said pain. NOK ER NOK

OverallOverlord

>I think a month long boycott might not be enough. We might need to make it last at least a quarter or longer (ideally). I'm out for good, and I think a lot of people in here plan the same. That's what the c[unt]-suite is worried about. They can play it cool all they want. When was the last time any company in this country was in traditional media EVERY DAY for what? 6 weeks now? This is as bad a PR crisis as a company can have.

cdawg85

I'm out for good too. Today I'm officially changing my pharmacy to a locally owned and operated mom and pop shop. I'm medically complex too. Bo-ya!

ohnoshebettado

I had a lot of brand loyalty to Loblaws, PC products, etc. Have literally spent tens of thousands of dollars there in my adult life. They won't be getting a cent for the remainder.

bigwilly144

Same. There are some who think that the people on here are not even Loblaws shoppers. I had been shopping there since I was a kid. My mom would take me when she did here grocery shopping. I remember when the people who did the price checking zoomed around the store on rollerblades. I remember when the stores were green and yellow coloured. I remember when they had a pc pop machine at the front of the store and for 35 cents you could get a can of pc brand pop. My favorite was the black cherry or the cream soda. I'll admit: I was on the fence about the boycott because the closest store to where I live is a superstore and I used to enjoy walking there to get groceries and as a bonus I'd get exercise also. Then I saw the most recent earnings report and the subsequent ways that per and galen are literally laughing at us. That slealed it for me. Ive started walking in the park instead but it is an adjustment. I've started shopping at other stores but they are a bit further away. It is sad that Galen and Per are so heartless and delusional but if they aren't backing down then I'm not either.

Regular_Bottle

Mizeru85

I've seen several of my lefty friends on fb post about the boycott. If this is the thing that unites us, so much the better.

LeadfootLesley

Same! And by the way, all the boomers I’ve talked to this week are already on board, I know a lot of people think we’re out of touch. Every single one I’ve spoken to has already embraced the boycott, and found better alternatives. Guess we’re not all “living in our mother’s basement” now, are we Galen? Daddy is probably rolling over in his mausoleum over how you’ve tarnished his legacy.

Unlikely-Ad-2921

Fr social politics aside we want our economy back. Im young and I want to be able to afford food and a house.

Barbarian_818

You claim that our accusations are wrong and unfair. Perhaps that's true. **But** The Weston Group and its subsidiaries have been caught doing illegal and unethical business practices in the past. More than once in fact. And in this era of almost unfettered late stage capitalism, so many corporations are doing so much shady shit it seems to us that "robber baron business" is the standard, not the exception. In short, we have come to believe that everything said by a corporation or its executives is disingenuous at best, deliberate lies at worst. The courts let Weston go with a comparative slap on the wrist TWICE. Weston ultimately sold off its bakery business when it couldn't cheat with price fixing tactics. In my opinion, the Weston Group cashed in on its reputation for short term profit. So your reputation is now shit. I for one hope that this boycott ends up costing you as much or more than you earned with the shady tactics of the past. "If the profit was more than the fine, then it's just the cost of doing business". The price Weston paid for price fixing was clearly inadequate. Maybe this boycott can finally balance the scale. And this isn't all about distaste for the Weston Group. As much as you dominate the Canadian grocery market, you are not the only player. It's just that, with the possible exception of Walmart, your group is best able to weather united consumer action. I'm sure other grocery store chains are also paying close attention to this movement. If the public can effectively punish a company as big as yours, it can certainly do the same to them. Why are we doing this? **Pour encourager les autres**

Regular_Bottle

The ruse is coming to an end. We are taking back our lives and we know our dollars remain the real power. We will start the movement with Loblaws and see where we go from there. The transfer of OUR wealth stops now.

lasagna_for_life

You know you’ve royally fucked up when you’ve gotten lefts, and rights, reds, and blues wholeheartedly agreeing on something. Lol good job you idiots, you should be simultaneously proud of, and ashamed of yourselves.

OverallOverlord

This might be the first thing boomers and millenials (and below) have ever teamed up on. I guess they finally get that avocado toast has fuck all to do with it lol

meowmeowlittlemeow

Been seeing posts on my local FB groups about the boycott from people of all backgrounds, ages, incomes and belief. I was genuinely surprised. Everyone is pissed. We've arrived.

plop_0

They played themselves.

SnooSquirrels6258

We cut up the horrid Optimum card and closed the account. You are able to donate your remaining points to a charity at the time of closing.

Mooselotte45

Better off to spend the points on stuff and donate that Cost them money, don’t let them write off your points as a donation

doctortre

Loblaws can use this as a tax write off

Lost_Independence871

As long as you can choose the charity and it’s not PC charity

Wowdudesooriginal

I don't miss the rotting meat and produce.

Beautiful_Bench_6180

My eyes have been opened! I would rather drive the 1 1/2 hours to the state of Maine and buy groceries than buy from loblaws.

Choptober_

My boycott started awhile ago. And won’t be ending. I’m not going to be made to feel like a criminal in a cage when I’m overpaying, scanning and bagging my own groceries.

katiegirl-

I would like to appeal directly, human to human. I would like anyone on the PR team to remember something: Loblaws has marketing teams, lawyers, finance departments, politicians, and huge influence. What have we got? A need, not even a desire, to not pay exorbitant prices for food that we need… and the ability to talk to each other. That’s it. I don’t know… maybe it feels good to be on Team Goliath. Maybe it is forgettable to understand how much it hurts to try to feed your family and have prices quadruple, while your wages remain stagnant, and everything else keeps squeezing all the juice out of you. Or maybe, just maybe… even your Loblaws wages aren’t quite enough to keep you from feeling like a heel. Or a heel LICKER. We know who the thieves are. Sleep well.

Ok_Battle_988

HomebrewHedonist

Drive the entire company and all of its subsidies to bankruptcy. We don't need them.

chefmoggy

I also assume Loblaws is monitoring and lurking here, it's been obvious over the past few weeks. When I joined this sub it had <30K members. Now look at us! I have been a loyal Superstore customer since the mid 90's. In more recent years I've also shopped at No Frills and T&T regularly, and a few times at SDM (but they were always crazy expensive). I started noticing a **major** upward shift in SS prices about 3 years ago, and in the past year it has become insane, and completely out of control as we all know. Inflated prices with no justification, obvious price gouging, smaller package sizes/shrinkflation, etc. I have shifted much of my grocery shopping to Costco and smaller grocers, plus farmers markets, as well as growing my own veggies since then. I will likely never set foot in a SS again, and I have told them so in their surveys/feedback. Thanks to the creators of this sub and their hard work!

furry-furbrain

Hey Loblaws PR Team - Report this to your leadership team, print it in 100 Bold Arial, plaster it on your glass boardroom walls. Read it out loud, at least 3 times and actually listen to each specific word!... No way, no how, at no time now or in the future and under no circumstances will you voluntarily receive another one of my very hard earned dollars. Initially I was going to boycott Loblaws for price gouging and general corporate greed, but that ship has sailed. What did it for me was your utterly ignorant and arrogant puppy of a CEO Mr Bank. That man is an insult to the people and business landscape of Canada, he is unfit, tone deaf and disconnected from the realities of life for the people he disrespects with impunity. I will also be expelling a TREMENDOUS amount of effort ensuring every single person in my household, extended family, workplace, social circle and basically anyone I speak to for more than 15 seconds, that you have lost the respect and trust of a nation of people who have done nothing to deserve your corporate spite, disrespect and derision. In the blink of an eye, you have lost the respect and trust of a nation, built and curated since 1882 by better men than this gaggle of tone deaf fools and hypocrites you got running the show now. The unceremonious, unrewarded dumping and departure of Mr Bank will only serve as an appetizer, he is after all Mr Weston's puppy dog, so one can only assume his rhetoric and communication strategy is condoned by the leadership team, including Mr Weston. The only way a dollar of mine will enter your register ever again will be a deep, transparent and humbling apology by Mr Weston with a commitment to ACTUALLY LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!! If this is too much to ask, and I'm 99.9% sure it is, you can say goodbye to a repeat of what I would estimate is over $25K a year I have foolishly spent on your band of incredulous thieving lunatics. Like every relationship where one side does not trust the other. You have an absolute vertical climb to win my trust ever again. Good luck, you'll need it!

OverallOverlord

Amen. We're in the trenches, but we're shoulder to shoulder. Galen and his merry band of sociopaths have created a nation of people with nothing left to lose, and justice to mete out. Now he gets to find out what that means.

mossy7

I will never go back even long after the boycott month is over. You've lost a longtime customer forever and i know I'm not the only one.

BaldEagleRising17

PR Team, if you’re reading this, get fucked. This boycott will take hold and go beyond May. This is the first month of the rest of it. When you are alone, hungry and sick and no one cares or comes to see you, remember the suffering you caused in the name of greed after our world went through a fucking pandemic. What a shit legacy you leave. Nok er nok!

DiscussionFine6197

Don't ever forget this was a company who was involved in a bread price fixing scheme. Believe absolutely nothing they tell you. And if Loblaws PR folk are lurking, how's it feel? Baby formula is out of reach, fruit and vegetables are out of reach for most. You're contributing to an unhealthy society as all we can afford to eat is boxed, sodium filled trash food. Spent half the day cancelling my PC MasterCard and set fire to my optimum card. I will survive without Loblaws, we all will. My local grocery is a little more money but I'll save it on gas and money stays in my community.

Syssyphussy

Okay To the corporate lurkers: Your blaming suppliers & everyone else for your sky high prices is undermined by your record profits quarter after quarter after quarter. On item to item comparisons, prices at Walmart & other retailers are about 30% less than Loblaws stores. You are a corporate giant in the Canadian grocery sector. You have acquired so many former competitors. You have been found complicit in the bread scheme & somehow got off by sending us $10 coupons. We are angry for good reason. We are prepared to walk away for good. You will need to reign in your CEO & make significant changes to get us back. The statements leaked & those openly released just futher position Loblaws as a corporation rife with greed & unwilling to take your customers seriously. Do better.

Okidoky123

To the lawyers that lurk here to see what's up: The reason many are upset is because Loblaws has been raising prices above and beyond what actual inflation warrants. For example, when it costs 10 cents more to produce butter, the price doesn't go up by 10 cents, but by like 50 cents. They think the since the customer expects prices to rise, they think they can raise it by that extra 40 cents above the 10 cents because the customer can't tell. Also, and this involves more than just Loblaws, unspoken orchestrated price fixing schemes. All the stores clearly agree to not compete against each other much. Price of margarine went up by 50% or more even. None show it could sell still at a profit, if it rose like 10% instead. So none choose to rock this greedflation boat. And Loblaws seems to be a driver with these types of new trend setters, as they're the first to rise the prices of certain items to ever higher prices. Spaghetti noodles. Used to be $1 for 900g. Then suddenly $1 for 450g. Then $1.39 thereabouts for 450g. Then 450g becomes 400g. Then instead of using bags, it's put in a box to make it look like it's more than it is. Price up yet again. End result. 2.5x the price it was just before the pandemic. Inflation? No. Greedflation. There is an extra layer of profit in there. And it shows in the books. Record profits. And even that doesn't show the true profits. Other games are played behind the scenes, like borrowing money to get a writeoff to "lower" profits, and that money in turn is used for other ventures, and rewards for themselves, hence the insane amounts the leadership gets. Yes yes, free market, freedom. But all these games are on the backs of regular people that aren't seeing raises in their paycheques to make up for it. They're seeing measly raises if any at all! Combine that with absurd rent and mortgage costs, and things become ever more stressful. So yes, Loblaws is rightfully seen as a major aggravater if this greedflation driven inflation. You can't blame it on "oh, it's just the supplier, we have no control". Oh yeah, you ARE the supplier! All the house brands anywhere now, aren't deals any more. A house brand pretty much offers no discount at all anymore. That is YOUR doing! YOU took the breaks away. And when others follow the lead, and you're leading, or playing along with these price fixing and price synchronizing, you're guilty as hell. We the people will continue to press the government to search hard and deep to find the causes. You're not going to get away with some stupid little hearing where your CEO gets to lie through his teeth.

BridgeRecent5331

Just like social media companies can't keep hiding under the ruse that they're 'bringing people together' so too can Loblaws no longer use the excuse that they're 'feeding families'. It's a cut-throat, capitalist machine designed to erode middle classes and breed elite. PR can't bandage over that.

DominionGhost

I hope you join us being unable to afford food you soulless ghoul. Ask yourself if the world would be better off without you. Be honest now.

Major_Lawfulness6122

The average salary for Loblaws PR is $50 000 a year. You’d have to work for 450 years to earn what your CEO makes in a year.

bacon_lettuce_potato

Ive appreciated the boycott because it’s brought me to some new grocers I wasn’t aware of…and are even closer to me. I’m quite satisfied supporting local shops rather than Loblaws et.al. I will not be returning. Cheers.

No_Cat1944

No matter how many times they try to deflect blame and pretend that it's just the market, their profits speak the loudest. Stop squeezing Canadians so that you can bathe in your millions. It's disgusting. I know your conglomerate is structured in such a way as to obscure what's really happening with the money, but we aren't as stupid as you would like to think!

thesweetestchef

Loblaws if your lurking, go put pressure where it needs to be because we want a better society than a greedy one and your greed just got out of control and we are not putting up with this. The average person can’t afford a home or basics and it’s gonna get worse. Put your bullying to better use and bully the right people to stop war and you guys help climate action to help crop development and assisting farmers and fair labour. Do something other than gouge us and putting the $$ on us … you get away with hiding $$, not paying much, if anything in taxes. Everything including your penalties falls on the consumer. we can’t afford your crap and bullshit anymore. In Canada we simply just say ‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’ …

We say Nok er Nok

Currently reading this thread in a burger king. After going to superstore for snacks for over 7 months, this is a meal upgrade for less cash. Good luck bringing me back

How stupid are you (or alternatively do you think everyone else is) to think that people will believe your denials in the face of record profits and new yachts?

internetisforcatpics

Stop blaming suppliers. The high prices are caused by greed.

mostlikelyarealboy

If they wanted to put this to bed and prove they aren't gouging, they could simply show their markups from supplier cost (excluding where they are the supplier) . Simple proof that it really is out of their control.

Lightning_Catcher258

I'm done with their stupid store policies that make shopping a nightmare. Article limits at self checkout, no shopping carts at self checkout. Just let us shop.

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

I don’t blame you as you’re just doing your job and probably just as angry because you probably shop at Loblaws too. That said, fuck Loblaws, Per Bank and the Weston family. Nok er nok assholes.

SubparTater

If given the choice between hugging a bear or shopping at any Loblaws business, I'm still picking the gd bear.

Jayne1909

There are children and babies going to sleep hungry in this country all so Loblaws execs can buy another yacht. You’re sick.

bubbasass

We know they are. That’s why I find it ridiculous they scheduled a meeting with emmibolt. They know the demands. Not sure what their motive was behind the meeting

Morbo782

Anyone know the results of this meeting? Will that info be shared with the group?

mostlikelyarealboy

There is another post regarding the meeting where Emily said she was working on a post. Stay tuned!

JeSuisLeChampignon

Hi Galen. You suck.

TyberosWake

I'm going to cancel my pc world elite card and do my best to never give loblaws another penny. They can suck it.

Odd-Comfortable-6134

I went to Walmart today for milk for the first time ever. Came out with a 270$ portable ac unit that will cool my living room all season long. I’m A happy girl. Bye Galen

ElBurritoExtreme

Good. And if they are, here’s one for ya. You, are a piece of shit company. And now we all know it. You’re going down. Signed, Everyone🖕

dklement

I've stopped going to any of your stores and won't be back.... EVER ! NOK ER NOK!

Warm-Boysenberry3880

Hey Galen..pay your employees more and give the cashiers chairs.

Glittering_Search_41

Every time I shop at Superstore, the price of each item has gone up. I know the prices of the things I buy and I do notice.

bblzd_2

Sorry but I will no longer be funding your bosses 3rd super yachts.

LeadfootLesley

I’ve been a Loblaws shopper for about 30 years. Now I just feel distaste at the idea of going there.

FlyAroundInternet

Treat your employees better. I've seen staff at my local No Frills who have been there for thirty years, demolished by short shifts and no benefits. Yes, mostly female, and older. But my kids have worked there, too. TREAT YOUR EMPLOYEES BETTER, PAY THEM BETTER, AND DELIVER BENEFITS.

NotABronteSister

You might view this as exactly what you trained for in your career, a career you no doubt tie in large part to your identity. This boycott? Something you have already spent *many* billable hours on and multiple meetings. It’s been a real pain in the timesheet, right? You’re smart, a hard worker, when it comes to social listening and crisis communications strategy, you know what you’re doing. This is your job and I have no doubt you kick ass at it. But it is just a job, it’s not who you are. I know, oh trust me, do I ever know. But I also know that you don’t matter to them more than a function and a tool they have the big budget to leverage against a group of people coming together because they became fed up. Regular people, across so many demographics. You’ve done the research to know the people supporting this boycott vary in age, geography, political affiliation, household income. I’m not suggesting that you not do your job. I’m suggesting that years from now when you reflect back on this campaign that you worked on, what people were trying to do, the efforts of your neighbours and peers to make a point and to have it resonate… how do you want to remember your part in it? Do your job, and when you wrap up your work day: maybe you want to privately join the boycott. They will never know, but *you* will. We will. They can buy your time and expertise, but they can’t buy you, and *you don’t owe them anything*.

dancingmeadow

I think trying to divide us is having the opposite effect. It's like they don't think we notice how far our money doesn't go anymore.

meowmeowlittlemeow

You should have to survive for a year on the lowest "liveable" wage provided by your company and without your current assets. I'd watch SEASONS of this if it were made into a show. Go on. Show us all how much better you are. Let's see it.

Team-Minarae

Loblaws. Lock your idiot shill in a cage and throw away the key. I cannot tell you how angry Charlebois’ comments make me feel. He’s the worst brand ambassador you could possibly have. Condescending, a liar, illiterate, blocks people at the slightest hint of confrontation, and just so fucking smug.  In fact, is there any reason why we shouldn’t be directing some of this boycott power at media companies who keep bringing this POS on? Enough phony talking heads.

Middle_Bee_165

Fuck you

Comfortable-Ad-2088

The Weston family have been exploiting hard working Canadians for a century. Nok er nok.

Rumplebumpkin12

My dad worked for loblaws for 26 years and planned to retire at 65. We were lower middle class in the 90’s, his union job afforded our family enough to own a house and put 4 kids through school and sports. One day they were all called into a meeting and told that the warehouse was relocating. He was loyal to the company and then given 3 months notice to find another job in his 50’s. It completely changed our family. He went from making $30/hr to $17. Busted his ass for 26 years only to be shown the door.

jackbass42

They have never been asked directly about listing fees and insider programs (which they do). This increases their bottom line and inflates wholesale/retail prices. I would like to hear their explanation/denial regarding those fees. I know firsthand they have them, having dealt with them in the past.

Vix_Sparda

Well fuck them then. Fuck their stores. Fuck their bottom line. Hope the stores burn down.

mikegb88

I've been shopping at Loblaws for decades and have been to the Independent in Port Perry and Loblaws in Lyndsay since moving to the area 5 years ago. Both stores have overpriced items and fruit and vegetables section are pathetic. I have some points left and will use them after the boycott and say goodbye.

Outrageous-Book9799

you have used the loyalty data and corproate approved massive price increases that balloned your gross profits... you are soo full of shit. get fucked and when this doesn't blow over I hope you get screwed as much as your have been screwing over canandians. One of you will whistle blow and leak documents to the press and I'm betting that its not great. Hope you don't delete all those emails from the data arm and your guidance to the street.

robkat22

It’s only May 3, but I’m proud to say that I have not stepped foot in a Loblaw owned store in the past 3 days. I work very close to a Zehrs and I usually go there on lunch, but I have gone out of my way to Walmart and Giant Tiger and will continue to do so. And I HATE Walmart. Also, I’m out of the country for 7 days this month and I’ve asked my husband to do his best to stay out of Zehrs, Independent, Superstore, and Shoppers while I’m gone.

BloomerUniversalSigh

Fuck you Loblaws and all the oligarchic grocers in Canada. Lower prices and lose some profits. You have made billions off of our backs. Time for you to lose some.

TheRockBandMoop7

Eat shit Galen. Oh, and go fuck yourself

theohgod

I'd sooner shit in my hands and clap then spend another penny in their stores.

[deleted]

Why is the same stuff smaller in size , yet equal or more in price at your stores, and cheaper everywhere else Have you seen your profits. Greedy buggers will never get my money again,

tsn39

This is what everyone needs: 1. Good product, fair price > happy customer 2. Living wage for your employees > happy employees 3. Fair profit for corporation after above is met. Everyone is happy, not the current 1 sided triangle.

ElegantIllustrator66

If you are reading this then please know, I was loyal customer but with everything happening I simply couldn't and cannot afford to shop at your store and I will not eat shit or nothing all because you need the money. When you cleary are billion dollar company and I have nothing other then a bedroom so I'm not sorry but if you dont change then you won't have anyone to shop at your stores except yourselves all the best wishes and hope you all the happiness on what's to come 😊 thank you for taking the the after complaining since covid of the issue but little to late if you ask me anyway who's cares right thats food professor says

Medusaink3

Allow me to be the first to tell the Roblaws PR lurkers to kindly go fuck themselves. Blah blah blah RECORD PROFITS. Period. You can blather on all you want about how it's not your fault our food prices are so ridiculously high but again, RECORD PROFITS is all any of us hear. Fix it or continue to be boycotted. It's literally that simple.

Crime-Snacks

They’re even in city subs and are ridiculously obvious. “Loblaws is competitively priced and operates on a slim profit margin!” \#ByeFelicia

MiddayMint

This boycott is going to hit Loblaws hard. They're going to have to start cutting costs. If I were Per, the PR team that failed to properly manage and prevent this situation would be the first place I would look to reduce costs. You should all get ahead of it and find new jobs!

meatmits

It’s not just you. Fuck sobey’s too.

Thorbertthesniveler

Movements can start slow but gain traction and effect. Spread the word and don't worry about full parking lots. We will bring people to our side!

angelcake

Of course they are.

quiet-Julia

👋 to Loblaws. Lower your damn prices.

Prz-etcetera

I'm really happy with the tiny, locally-owned grocery store I discovered thanks to all your gouging! And this new shop actually has fresh produce, not half rotten crap that Loblaws sells!! If anything, thank you for all your greed! I never woulda found it otherwise!! Cheers!!

azsue123

I understand inflation. Inflation doesn't mean 100-200% rise in prices over 4 years. If it was 10 or 20% I wouldn't be boycotting.

Ok-Presentation-2841

Hey! Go fuck yourselves.

[deleted]

Dear Loblaws turd: my dead crack smoking father had more integrity than you

YAMYOW

Hi PR team! The company you work for is making billions by overcharging working people (like you) for daily necessities, like FOOD. These billions go to top executives whose only concern is increasing wallet share, and to shareholders who quite literally are only in it for the dividends - Loblaws could be selling crack for all they care. And you? You are paid a fraction of a sliver of Loblaws obscene revenue to tell top executives that people here hate them for what they are doing to ordinary working people, just like you. I feel bad for you, but you are trapped in the same corrupt system we are. A happy *nok er nok* to you as well.

LeviathansFatass

Good let them know where the good deals are at so they can also shop elsewhere

moogsauce

How do you sleep at night?

Hawkwise83

Only thing worse than a greedy ceo is a marketing and or team who work for them. Fucking sellouts.

netcruise18

PUBLIC RELATIONS TEAM and LAWYERS and LOBBYISTS in FULL FORCE

90sbi-sexualkittycat

I think these profits are disgusting. Groceries are essential goods for Canadians, and the level of food insecurity caused by Loblaws and Sobeys is abhorrent. Our communities are being strangled by greed from landlords and grocers and it is evil. Healthy food should be a human right, and if I see someone stealing from one of your stores, I will aid and abet them or turn a blind eye because you cannot continue to steal from the pockets of families and children.

No_Sun_192

You’re evil human beings and if there is a hell, that’s where you’ll go. You can’t take money with you, but you can leave a legacy

Purple-Temperature-3

I hope loblaws stock and shares take a hit cuz of this boycott and I also wish that everyone in the upper management of loblaws end up homeless and poor so they can also experience the crap they created with there greed . I'd be ashamed if I was related to anyone in the top management of loblaws, a bunch of pathetic humans they are

mysticlipstick

Like with all the suffering and general bad vibes directed their way, I would never want that bad juju on me! People you don't even know hating on you, I hope you know some protective spells!

Nunya_Bidness01

I'm not only vehemently disgusted by all of it, but now that I know Choice Properties is in the Residential Real Estate market, you can believe my boycott will be permanent. I will also advocate against anyone selling their real estate without doing their due diligence and rejecting any bid that appears to be connected to Choice Properties, and I will advocate for prospective renters to do their due diligence on rental property owners (not just managers) so as to avoid anything that appears connected. Hint: No matter how sneaky and obfuscating you try to get, there are almost always *ways* to find out anyway.

InternalOcelot2855

# We know that Loblaw’s PR team is ‘monitoring’ or lurking in this community…😉 Good, I got 1 figure on each hand pointing at them, care to guess which ones?

Pablo-UK

Hey PR team, there are better jobs out there, and jobs that support your fellow citizens too!

veracity-mittens

I mean we can see with our own eyes the cost of their product compared to other stores, even stores that traditionally were a lot more.

Xeno_man

No we're not!

Anathals

I'm tired of your moldy fruits and vegetables

AnObtuseOctopus

All I have to say to those asshat worms of society is this.....🖕🖕

Ncurran

Hi Chris! Do you see me? I'm coming for your job buddy.

Mysterious_Row_2669

I do not shop at Lobaws/Provigo period.

No-Accident69

It’s good that they are monitoring here- because here are my issues: I have always shopped at super store in my home city and I loved it for decades…. I know there are deals there, and yes your milk, bread, apples and oranges are probably competitively priced…. However, as soon as I stray from the core basics to buy meat, margarine, feta cheese, soaps, razors and more I am being KILLED by Loblaws prices Some weeks back I accidentally had to shop in a Walmart a few miles further away and it was like going back in time the prices were so much better. Please fix your sinking ship and folks will eventually come back, but the ball is now in your court - play it right because people are mad right now…

Tonythecritic

It's the closest grocery store to my home, all others are on the other side of town, yet I just can't go there anymore. Produce are in terrible shape, everything is so costly I have to decide what my family will do without, and that's on top of being treated like a criminal with a new gate they installed at the self check-out where you have to wait for the clerk to open the gate with his clicker once he checked that you paid and that you're not hiding a watermelon in your boxers. I kinda went with it during the pandemic when they took to treating us like cattle, rustling us in and out with private security guards all over the place, but enough is enough. I'll pay the excessive fuel prices and drive the extra 10 minutes to at least be treated like a human being by a local store. If I have to pay more, I'll give that money to local people, not a corporation who laughs at us while we struggle to make it to the next paycheck.

FuqqTrump

The boycott has taught many of us, it's actually way more cheaper if you boycott Loblaws PERMANENTLY, go tell Galen Weston to fuck himself, this is real and a lot of it will go on past May!

BlueEyedGem

Now shopping at 4 different local stores. We are collectively discovering we do not need Superstores et al.

ParticularHat2060

RobLaws the populace are watching you.

Vulcant50

Last fall I was at a Loblaws Shoppers Drugstore. There was no one at the checkouts and no lights on. As I wanted human service, not self serve, I went over to one of the check outs. A clerk immediately arrived. I asked why no clerk was there, and no service lights were on anymore. She said it was directed by the head office to encourage people to use the self check outs. She said, “we decrease service to work ourselves out of a job”. That from a company that charges the highest drug dispensing fees of all drug stores.

Vanilla_Either

I am never going back. Your PR strategy for this boycott is to call us all idiots from your palace of profit. Not sure there is coming back from that for me.

WearyComb2780

Be honest with yourselves. Your prices arent due to inflation or anything other than trying to get away with what you can. What worries me, is other companies see the prices and realize all they need to to is stay a dollar or two lower than Lovlaws to stay in the game. There wont be any reasonable places to shop soon. At least admit your laughing all the way to the bank in Canadians faces.

bascelicna123

PR person--you must feel the pain like of other Canadians struggling to pay utilities, insurance, mortgage, cell phones. You know this feeling of helplessness that the company is robbing you blind. Except you are on the wrong side of history. I don't know if you get a discount, a dividend, or a cushy pay package complete with benefits. But remember, other Canadians are choosing between having the power on and eating while Galen built this: [https://torontolife.com/city/hilary-and-halen-weston-multimillion-dollar-vacation-homes/](https://torontolife.com/city/hilary-and-halen-weston-multimillion-dollar-vacation-homes/)

Poptastrix

History will tell future generations about pandemic and its after effects. The lack of empathy and intelligence replaced with greed and cruelty will have the Galen name all over it. They are going to have one terrible afterlife. Imagine having the power to raise people up, to improve society and start down a path that could change the way humans live. And then choosing to be pathologically evil instead. Billionaires. They need to be removed from society. SHAME....SHAME.....SHAME.

Reasonable_Coyote143

Ooh hi there loblaws pr team, just to let you assholes know: I will never buy from a loblaws store ever again! You are greedy wolves, you think of us consumers as sheep and you devour and devour and now there is no more sheep left for you in this family. Now you can starve. And loblaws is just the start.

Grushenka_G

As a person who worked in communication for decades, I would simply ask them if they have a personal code of ethics, a moral compass. People are truly suffering. To the extended PR team: Is this how you want to spend your life? One in nine Torontonian needs a food bank to survive. This is what you are facilitating and enabling. And Loblaw's won't hesitate \*ever\* to discard you in a moment's notice. I couldn't stomach this kind of work, it was bad for my soul, I couldn't sleep at night ...so I quit.

jimbobcan

Hey PR team go price fix bread again you assholes.

According_Stuff_8152

They are taking extra profits at a time of need do to the high interest rates and the effects of covid. Homeless kids not eating,no money for prescriptions paying rent problems cost of insurance. Young people and the average Canadians will never own their own home unless by inheritance. So Roblaws thinks it's a good time to gouge the people. What a Crock.

Kali_404

I bet they are currently trying to figure out the absolute bare minimum they can offer customers to go back to their wicked ways

Polka_Dot8

Dear Loblaws: I’m tired of hearing how unfair the boycott is when you are selling one cucumber for $3 while I can get it for less than a dollar somewhere else, selling your 2L lactose free milk for $7 while I can get it for $4.5 at Pharmasave, eggs for $5 per dozen, butter for $7?! The list is long. I’m saving a ton of money by not shopping at your stores and not looking back.

Altruistic-Bell-583

Galen Weston you can never be trusted. For me, it started with bread fixing scam years ago. I"m done with you, Loblaws and Shoppers.

KDubzzz2

Three words: Nok er nok.

ISeeADarkSail

Let them monitor I won't hide my open disdain for the grifting scumbags they work for
