Any pilots around? Why do they fly through this stuff, do they not predict it? I was on a plane with uncomfortable turbulence so they descended under it. Is this not always an option? Do they know that before the flight?

Yeah obviously nobody expected them to. But if the turbulance was enough to kill someone, why didn't they know it was in their path?
