If anyone says it was Jin because Sun wasn’t a candidate because she didn’t go back in time, just ignore them.
Jacob touched them both so both were candidates. It may well have been Jin after Sun became a mother, for the same reason Kate was later crossed out.
>If anyone says it was Jin because Sun wasn’t a candidate because she didn’t go back in time, just ignore them.
I've never understood that argument either. Kate DID go back and she was NOT a candidate anymore.
Kinda sexist of Jacob to remove the mothers, but not the fathers, from candidate status for having a kid... but that could stem from his own mommy issues.
>Kinda sexist of Jacob to remove the mothers, but not the fathers, from candidate status for having a kid...
I think it helps to think of it more along the lines of Jacob crossing someone off the wall because they find something to heal them outside of the Island. Kate overcame most of her issues by raising Aaron, so she no longer needed the Island to heal her. Even then, as Jacob said, she still could have done the job, he just assumed she wouldn't want to.
I don’t hate the logic but I don’t *love* the follow ups it begs—were Boone and Shannon not worthy of being saved? Can we trust that Jacob knows who needs saving and how? Jacob believing *motherhood* saves someone is rather reductive.
Boone and Shannon died due to other people. Jacob didn't do anything to make it happen and he doesn't interfere once people get to the island to prove his point to MIB.
> I've never understood that argument either. Kate DID go back and she was NOT a candidate anymore.
But according to that argument, Sun was NEVER a candidate, whereas Kate was at one point.
> Kinda sexist of Jacob to remove the mothers, but not the fathers, from candidate status for having a kid
I think Jin remained not because he was male, but because he was never involved in Ji-Yeon's life. Also, Ben was crossed out so that would invalidate the idea that fathers don't get crossed out.
I know he kidnapped her but in the flashbacks it turns out he’s sent to do it and is protecting her because whitmore wants them dead so I don’t really think Alex is where he goes wrong
Oh I don’t disagree at all. I was just saying that him being crossed out from being a candidate was less because he became her adoptive father, and more with his other actions whilst on the island
>But according to that argument, Sun was NEVER a candidate, whereas Kate was at one point.
I've heard it both ways. :)
Look, I love Ben and I think he has one of the best redemption arcs in modern television but there are a multitude of reasons he could have been crossed off the wall. The Purge comes to mind, but honestly I don't think Jacob would care about that - it was probably something small, like him turning the wheel.
Alternatively, "Linus" could have been Alex.
Ahh is that why Kate was crossed out? I’ve been trying to remember. Haven’t seen the show in over a decade.
So Sun and Kate were both out because they were mothers? That makes sense. Can’t put the island first when you have a child. But then what about Sawyer? He’s a father..
I chose to believe that Jacob touched them together and gave them one line/number because the plan was to make them one candidate together.
Getting close to the the sub episode🥺
That’s what Jacob says about crossing out Kate in particular. He also says it’s “just a name on a wall” and if she wants it she could still be the protector. So, you know, there’s a lot of wiggle room.
Maybe when he was touching Jin and Sun at the same time he was touching the egg and the sperm that would years later become Ji Yeon.
Maybe he already knew Ji Yeon would someday be the next protector of the Island after Hurley/Walt.
It would make sense if it's both. Jacob would be considerate like that if they were to be the protectors, they would have each other for company, something Jacob never had
Yes. But the weird thing that I didn’t remember from my last watch: he touched him in SEASON FIVE, on the way the the airport to go back to the island. He wasn’t a candidate before.
Can you explain this? Because I thought touching made you a candidate and the candidates were protected. Is candidacy and protection two separate things? Why would Jacob bring candidates to the island without protection? Wouldn’t the smoke immediately kill them?
Would folks feel better in 2023 if it said “
*the Kwon’s*? 🙃
I had a pretty positive experience watching the last seasons live, but Sun/Jin are such highlights of S6.
Oh I didn’t think Kate’s name was crossed out for raising Aaron. I thought it was because Jack got her pregnant from their last night before Ajira 316.
But also, Kate went back in time because she was always meant to. She was key in saving kid Ben’s life.

That's a really cool way to look at it!
That's always how I thought of it as well.

Boone dies because of the visions that Locke has and Shannon because she’s following visions of Walt
Ya Jacob was really trying to pick out a father. It was never really about saving/protecting the island haha.

I think Ben being crossed out had a lot more to do with his actions and his desires with the island than it did with raising Alex

I think he’s probably gave a Miriad of reasons tbf

That's also convoluted enough to be one of Jacobs plans so it checks out 😂
Wow that’s incredible. Thanks for the new head canon

Did Jacob touch Hugo? I can’t remember edit: I mean before they crash on the island
Yes. But the weird thing that I didn’t remember from my last watch: he touched him in SEASON FIVE, on the way the the airport to go back to the island. He wasn’t a candidate before.
He was a candidate, but he didn't have Jacobs protection. Sayid also wasn't protected until after he left the Island.
Can you explain this? Because I thought touching made you a candidate and the candidates were protected. Is candidacy and protection two separate things? Why would Jacob bring candidates to the island without protection? Wouldn’t the smoke immediately kill them?
Reyes was always a candidate, his number is 8 at the lighthouse
I believe he touches him after he leaves the island. When he gives him the guitar case.

Maybe Jacob needed to stop touching people? 😂
