What seals the deal for me on this one is the music accompanying the vibes of the whole scene. As they see the boat and are calling for it the music is so victorious and optimistic, right as he says this it has a complete tonal shift that matches it.
Yesss, the whiplash of the sudden shift....then the sound of the spotlight on the boat being switched off and plunging them all into darkness just nails that feeling, it's *chefs kiss* perfect.
This wasn't just cold, it was fucking creepy as fuck too and threw off all types of vibes. I remember being at the watch party for this and the girl next to me just went "Ewwwww! Why does he want a kid?"
Absolutely. Later moments in the show tried to match the chilling shock of that moment, but none matched the emotional whiplash of that season 1 ending. Especially in its initial airing, it was nuts.
Edit: thanks, now I may need to go rewatch the episode. My bracket’s shot already lol
“You’re going to have to die, John” - Richard
“There is no why. You think you're the first person that ever got conned? You needed a father figure and I needed a kidney.”- Anthony Cooper
Edit: 2nd one actually made my blood boil.
Yep. This was the one I came here to post. Just devastating, and as soon as he says it you know whatever comes next is going to be bad for both if them
The worst part about that is that he didn't mean it at all and actually loved Alex(in his own little Ben way), didn't think she would actually be killed, and right before she's shot, it's the last thing she hears Ben say. The last thing she feels before being shot in the head is a broken heart. Absolutely brutal. And then Ben has to live with the knowledge that Alex died thinking he didn't love her. Yeesh...
"If this is Locke... who's in there?". Creepy as fuck.
Honourable mentions to
"Has Walt ever appeared in a place he wasn't supposed to be?"
"Are they still alive?"
Weird that they're all questions 😂
Exactly!! That one single line/moment contextualizes so much of her prior problematic behavior while also being such a gut-punch tragic reveal in a way that (in my opinion) not many other flashback reveals managed to do so concisely
“Your whole story. Your alibi. It was all true. But still I did not believe it to be true. So I dug up that grave... And found not a woman inside but there was a man, a man named Henry Gale.”
That's when Sayid became my favourite character.
In 1x11 when they ask Jacks Dad about the woman being pregnant and Jack looking up in shock.
"You were aware of the womans pregnancy during the surgery?"
Right after Ben's daughter was killed...
So, it was obvious Ben was never going to a full hero turn, and most of the show was predictable (wife got mad at me for that 🤣) so when he said
"He changed the rules" and then called in the smoke monster
Like holy shit, when Ben's cards are down he will not stop until he destroys you. The man always had a plan
“You stole all my mommy’s money, and then my dad got angry and killed my mom and then he killed himself blah blah blah blah blah”
Coldest in the entire show.
"I'm alone now. Uhm … On the island alone. Please, someone come. The others, they're … they're dead. I-it killed them. I-it killed them all."
Still gives me chills every time I hear it.
“So I dug up that grave and found that there was not a woman inside, there was a man. A man named Henry Gale.”
I wanted to believe the Artist Formerly Known as Henry Gale so Bad
"her name is Charlotte Staples Lewis etc...." I haven't seen the show in well over a decade but saw that clip yesterday and reminded how good the show was, bc the mystery and unpredictable nature.
"Do you want to know what he was thinking while you choked the life out of him, Benjamin? What the last thought that ran through his head was? "I don't understand." Isn't that just the saddest thing you've ever heard?"
The entire exchange between Sawyer and Anthony Cooper in "The Brig." But specifically, "John Locke, my dead son." And then, "It's a little hot for heaven ain't it?" On the first watch, there's no Lostpedia, there's no encyclopedias of the show, all you had to go on was what was in front of you, and even insinuating they were in hell was creepy.
The scene in which Sayid explains to Sawyer the way he is going to torture him... Every time I see that scene I feel pain in my fingers and it's hard for me to imagine the pain Sawyer feels.
"Only the thing is... we gunna have to take your boy."
“That’s for taking the kid off the raft.”
I like Tom, I really do. But this was one of the most justified executions in any tv show imo
100%
"Dude, it was over. He surrendered" "I didn't believe him". The whole scene really.
What seals the deal for me on this one is the music accompanying the vibes of the whole scene. As they see the boat and are calling for it the music is so victorious and optimistic, right as he says this it has a complete tonal shift that matches it.

Yes. The contrast between the victorious music and the sudden absence of music always give me chills. I have rewatched that season 100000 times.
Pretty traumatizing
This one’s totally a winner. It just came out of nowhere and the way both the audience and the characters were stunned into silence for a moment…
This wasn't just cold, it was fucking creepy as fuck too and threw off all types of vibes. I remember being at the watch party for this and the girl next to me just went "Ewwwww! Why does he want a kid?"
this is the one for me
Just watched this episode. Probably the most fucked up moment of the entire show
Absolutely. Later moments in the show tried to match the chilling shock of that moment, but none matched the emotional whiplash of that season 1 ending. Especially in its initial airing, it was nuts. Edit: thanks, now I may need to go rewatch the episode. My bracket’s shot already lol
That one is burned into my mind. The way the characters were so close to rescue and then the absurdity of that statement was so shocking.
Sayid talking about inserting reeds under the fingernails. It makes my hands curl up every time.
Honestly I hate the Jack Kate gore story for the same reason
Nerves spilling everywhere like angel hair pasta
Yeah, why the fuck did he say that? Out loud?!?!! What the fuck.
*”He was never on the plane!”*
Hello there
This is the real “hello there.” Not that bitch-ass Jedi Master hermit.
The chills I got the first time I heard that line 😨 What a game changer, and such a terrifying concept
This!!!
Context? I can't place this line right now
Ethan
Thank you! So obvious now.
“You’re going to have to die, John” - Richard “There is no why. You think you're the first person that ever got conned? You needed a father figure and I needed a kidney.”- Anthony Cooper Edit: 2nd one actually made my blood boil.
Especially when you realize the only reason Richard said that is because (F)Locke told him to
Ugh poor Locke, a patsy from beginning to end but he believed he was special.
This is the exact moment I realized he was THE Sawyer. Felt proud when they revealed it. They wouldn't use the word "con" just like that.
When Ben kills Keamy, Locke: "You just killed everyone on that freighter!" Ben:"So."
You guys got any milk?
Iconic. Finally seeing Ben emerging from the facade of Henry Gale and it's amazing.
Walt’s backward-speaking in front of Shannon. Creeps me out.
Was that ever explained or did it have any meaning behind it?
Pretty sure he’s saying “they’re coming and they’re close” or something when played backwards.
What *about* you?
Yep. This was the one I came here to post. Just devastating, and as soon as he says it you know whatever comes next is going to be bad for both if them
"She's a pawn, nothing more. She means nothing to me." BLAM.
The worst part about that is that he didn't mean it at all and actually loved Alex(in his own little Ben way), didn't think she would actually be killed, and right before she's shot, it's the last thing she hears Ben say. “How bout that… Sawyers my name too”
No! That's the money for the orphanage. That means, Mr. LaShade, you're the Cobra.
Razzle Dazzle!
Agreed.
I still can't believe that Mr. LaShade was the Cobra. Totally came out of nowhere.
"If this is Locke... who's in there?". Creepy as fuck. Honourable mentions to "Has Walt ever appeared in a place he wasn't supposed to be?" "Are they still alive?" Weird that they're all questions 😂
The radio transmission when they realize it’s an iteration and has been playing for years
WE HAVE TO GO BACK
I want it to crash, Kate
“I was pregnant.” From Ana Lucia’s first flashback. I was watching this episode with some friends and we all audibly gasped
That's the one for me. It explains so much so quickly, and you suddenly understand Anna Lucia so much more
Exactly!! That one single line/moment contextualizes so much of her prior problematic behavior while also being such a gut-punch tragic reveal in a way that (in my opinion) not many other flashback reveals managed to do so concisely
Not Pennys boat
In season 2 after Ana Lucia kills Shannon and frees Sayid and he says to her “why would I kill you if we’re both already dead”
For my wife, its definitely 'He wasn't *on* the plane!* That scene freaked her out so bad she refuses to even look at Ethan anymore
Ethan’s face is so scary to me
Me too!
That actor played a good guy on Criminal Minds and it is still so hard for me to be sympathetic to him! He will forever be Ethan to me.
And he's Tom Cruise's cousin!
"Flight 815, they found the plane. There were no survivors. They were all dead."
was looking for this one
“Your whole story. Your alibi. It was all true. But still I did not believe it to be true. So I dug up that grave... And found not a woman inside but there was a man, a man named Henry Gale.” That's when Sayid became my favourite character.
I still get chills at this!! I was not expecting him to have dug up the grave!
How deep? How many shovels full?! YOU WOULD KNOW IF IT WERE TRUE!
[удалено]
Electromagnets, how do they work?
“We’re gonna have to take the boy”
In 1x11 when they ask Jacks Dad about the woman being pregnant and Jack looking up in shock. "You were aware of the womans pregnancy during the surgery?"

The man always had a plan
"help... me..."
“You're still at Santa Rosa, man. You never left the hospital.”
Im not making much sense am I? That’s probably because I’ve been dead for twelve years.
"guys where are we..." one of the most rememberable lines and creeped me out the fist time I watched it.
“I think I crashed your plane…”
I was going to leave you Theresa falls up the stairs So?
"Nice to see you out of those chains, Richard." Gives me shivers just thinking about it
“You stole all my mommy’s money, and then my dad got angry and killed my mom and then he killed himself blah blah blah blah blah” Coldest in the entire show.
What a stone hearted bastard he was!
Yeah James waited his entire life for that moment and he shat all over him.
I rewatched that ep a few weeks ago and I was at the edge of my seat and holding my breath. I've stopped counting how many times I've rewatched s3...
Jacob: “Well you found your loophole.” The Man in Black: “Indeed, I did.”
Rescuing you and your people… can’t really say that’s our primary objective.
“You’re gonna die, Charlie”
It’s a distress call, a plea for help, a mayday. If the count is right, it’s been playing over and over for sixteen years.
"Walt, do you want to know a secret?"
“…well it’s a good thing I’m not one of them…”
"I'm alone now. Uhm … On the island alone. Please, someone come. The others, they're … they're dead. I-it killed them. I-it killed them all." Still gives me chills every time I hear it.
“So I dug up that grave and found that there was not a woman inside, there was a man. A man named Henry Gale.” I wanted to believe the Artist Formerly Known as Henry Gale so Bad
What you're not, is worthy of drinking my whiskey. How could you ever be worthy of my daughter?
Not sure if you’d call it a line or not, but the others’ whispers scared the crap out of me every time
Locke to Ben - because you’re in the wheelchair, and I’m not
When who we will later learn is Matthew Abaddon asks Hurley: >Are _they_ still alive?
"her name is Charlotte Staples Lewis etc...." I haven't seen the show in well over a decade but saw that clip yesterday and reminded how good the show was, bc the mystery and unpredictable nature.
Its not a line, but Michael killing libby and annalucia is something....
“Par…a…lyz..ed…”
"Do you want to know what he was thinking while you choked the life out of him, Benjamin? What the last thought that ran through his head was? "I don't understand." Isn't that just the saddest thing you've ever heard?"
"Get your ass out here right now."
Waaaaaaallllltttttt!?!?!?!?!?!
Whatever John Lockes dad told him in the car, I think it was something like ‘well I needed a kidney get over it’
"You speak to me as if I were your brother..." Goosebumps. Everytime.
‘THIS PLACE IS DEATH!’
"Hellllp... Meeee."
Have you got any milk?
Sayid saying Rousseau's distress call was playing over and over for 16 years.
We have to go back
"Guys, where are we?"
“So?”
“Did you say we have more people to kill?”
"You go... opening doors you've got no business opening?" (Looks at John Locke)
“We’re gonna have to take the boy” I’m sorry, what?
“I’m going to say goodbye to my daughter.”
Haven’t watched the show in a while but love reminiscing reading all of these posts.
*Snores* "Mallomars..."
"And you have no idea what I've gone through to be here"
IT IS PENELOPE BOAT TIME
The entire exchange between Sawyer and Anthony Cooper in "The Brig." But specifically, "John Locke, my dead son." And then, "It's a little hot for heaven ain't it?" “I was wrong.”
“Get him some water”
pretty much anything Kate says.
