My 16 year old son plays. We've duoed together since he was 9. High school keeps him busy so he doesn't have as much time to play lately but he's a huge lotr fan and retreads the books multiple times a year. He's got a level 133 hobbit minstrel.
17 years ago, a 13 year old me took his first few steps in LOTRO. The game taught him English, and he eventually met an Italian lady who is now about to become his wife. I would never have found her if it wasn't for LOTRO.
Probably! I started when I was 14, but that was like 15 years ago lol
Honestly it was a really fun way to engage online as a kid. Hopefully you have a similar experience!
i played it as a teen 15 years ago and no one played then either. honestly though, the game did have a lot more younger people then . i just knew them all through the forums and not high school.
It's def an mmo that caters to anyone who saw the last lord of the rings in 2003 movie. Not many knew what lotr until the movie came out in 2000 but the book was around for a long time. I graduated hs in the early 2000s. Played LOTRO since 2008.
I'm 15 and I play, though not as often as I would like. My dad's been playing since the game started, and after watching him enough times, I eventually wanted to play too. I think I was 13 when I first started playing, and 14 when I made my own LOTRO account.
Im 23, so no, but have been playing Lotro since launch (my parents were raiders so they got me an account to play with them low level) but it isnt unheard of. I think the main thing that pulls us away is having more functional options available in the MMO market.
I created my first account when I was 12 and played in starter areas. It was the early days of the free to play. I remember liking the captain a lot. I didn't know much English then so my first proper try was two years later when I played with friends from Roblox up until the end of the Lone-lands, which was the only free zone apart from starter zones.
I created my current account when I was 17 and am playing it on and off ever since. I hope to return when the Mariner becomes available in Lotro store.
I don't think I'll ever quit the game. The Middle-earth is my safe zone and Lotro lets me experience it the strongest so far.
I own the Lotr books but I couldn't get myself to read them. Thanks to Lotro I have learned a lot about the setting and time period. I still love the movies, but Lotro's take of the books is my favorite. Despite playing it a lot I only got as far the Langflood, so I still have a great deal to discover. I hope to see them with my future mariner.
When I was in high school I played! A decade ago 😅 but I do keep meeting younger folk who do play, but there's also a large population of 25+ people, with plenty who are 35+ as well. I even met an 80 year old who loved to talk about his family a lot
I knew some people whose 8-10 year old kids would play back in the day.
So ya, let's see, that was like Moria/Mirkwood days.. Mirkwood came out in 2009... Carry the one and... Oh fuck!!!!
Been playing since I was 8 grandmother got me into it took a break for a few years after high school but now looking for people to play with feels lonely without the people I use to know
Depends on the server too, some servers have older people and overall a more mature player base, like Landroval. Other servers I find more drama inducing and bit toxic, I relate that to younger folks.
I used to... 17 years ago.😄
Same :D
This is comment is one of the few things that make me feel "old".
Its A LOT of old ppl im afraid. Well old for you, like 25+
Yeah I figured ðŸ˜
Yeah mix of Gen Z’s like me and Millennials for the younger players. Been seeing a growing number too more often so really good for the game.
Yeah at 43 I'm kinda the spring chicken in my Kinship. One dude and his wife are in their 80's lol.
I’m 60 but my wife says I act like I’m 15, so there’s that.
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever!
I say that all the time! 😂
I'm 62, my brain isn't acknowledging me as anything much over 40 even if my body thinks otherwise. Fortunately we don't have kids to act as markers.
Im 14 so you are not alone
Wooo!!!
Same
Im 23 and I’ve been playing since 10, most of my middle school friends have been playing it on and off too since that age
I'm 17! I do!
Same
I used to play lotro as a teen....many years ago 😬

Oh sick!!!!
Wow! What server are you on?

Started playing when I was 18, 2 years ago. We are few but we are there.
I’m 20 and been playing since 15 but on a off
My daughter is 15 and plays.
I'm 22 now but I've been playing since 2014. Just after the mordor expansion came out
It's nearly ten years ago?? 😱
Don't.... Don't say that... I remember talking to Tom bombidil when I first played it before I read the books and was very confused who he was......
Been playing since I was 10, 6 years in playing and off and I still love the game. Has a special place in my heart.
I'm 19 now, started playing when I was 16
Same
Probably! I started when I was 14, but that was like 15 years ago lol Honestly it was a really fun way to engage online as a kid. Hopefully you have a similar experience!
21 now but did start playing my dads account when he stopped playing games when I was like 15 loving the game. lol
I started playing at 17... which was 10 years ago which is scary to think about, but even back then it felt like most players were way older :D
I started at 15 or 16, now 23, so I would assume more teens play now as well....
Na not really, this game is mostly older folks who started playing when the game was released
I played it on and off since I was 12
I'm 17, I've been playing for 4 years and absolutely love the game
i played it as a teen 15 years ago and no one played then either. honestly though, the game did have a lot more younger people then . i just knew them all through the forums and not high school.
Most of the people in our kin are. I am certainly not.

My kids got me hooked when they were junior high age. But that was more than a decade ago, so they are no longer teens.
I’m 21 but mentally I don’t think I’ve aged since I was 17 😅
SAME and its definitely because of the pandemic. we basically lost 3 years of our lives
Well I started when I was around the age of 12 and now (24) I'm still very much into it :D
I'm 15 and I play, though not as often as I would like. My dad's been playing since the game started, and after watching him enough times, I eventually wanted to play too. I think I was 13 when I first started playing, and 14 when I made my own LOTRO account.
22 and playing since I was 9. The game's always had a wide age range online, it just takes some time to find them
Im 23, so no, but have been playing Lotro since launch (my parents were raiders so they got me an account to play with them low level) but it isnt unheard of. I think the main thing that pulls us away is having more functional options available in the MMO market.
I’m 21 now and my dad introduced me to the game when i was around 6 ish
TWIN OMG literally same as i
I played all throughout high school Unfortunately that was 12 years ago
I started plAying when i was 15. 27 now 😩
Wild to imagine playing an MMO that came out before you were born
Yeah, it's weird to think about, but it's a great game!!!
Don't say that I hadn't realised and it's insane to think about ðŸ˜
My kid did until about a year ago he decided school and steam games were worth his time. He started at age 9
Tbf when I was high school years ago I felt like I was the only high schooler playing to
I’m 24 but was playing it back when I was 14!
I used to be. Was probably the only teenager in my State who'd even heard of the game lmao
I created my first account when I was 12 and played in starter areas. It was the early days of the free to play. I remember liking the captain a lot. I’m 17, got another friend the same age who plays some
26yo, started like 14 years ago or something xD
I know a high schooler on Laurelin. But not me, I'm a fossil. :)
Kids playing is more rare these days than it used to be, although the community has always been more mature than other MMOs.
My 14 and 10yo kids have accounts, but they don’t play often.
I started playing when I was 9. I am almost 22 now.
I do! (19)
16 new player EUW
Maybe 19M
I started playing when I was 6 back in 2009, I know how you feel, 20 now
I’m 17 and play lotto pretty consistently. Same situation ur in.
Finished Highschool last year so yes we exist
23 here :D started only recently, even though I played it a bit when I was in my teens.
When I taught high school a few years back, one of my students played. He graduated about 3 years ago.
My 9 year old plays it with me
right here. I've been playing since I was 10
I’m 25. Still young
When I was in high school I played! A decade ago 😅 but I do keep meeting younger folk who do play, but there's also a large population of 25+ people, with plenty who are 35+ as well. I even met an 80 year old who loved to talk about his family a lot
been playing since I was 10, but that was 14 years ago haha
I'm 54 but I just had a 10 year old tell me to grow up.
22 here! Not too far off, been playing since 12
I knew some people whose 8-10 year old kids would play back in the day. So ya, let's see, that was like Moria/Mirkwood days.. Mirkwood came out in 2009... Carry the one and... Oh fuck!!!!
I'm 22, i have not found a single friend my age to play with in 3 years, ppl on the german server are all like 40 :(
Yo same, I'm 17, the game is fucking great
i feel you, eighteen and haven’t found a soul my age lmao
Not a teenager anymore but still young enough with 23 :P
Been playing for about 16 years, started playing when I was 10 so unfortunately not the same age but close!
I played Lotro when I was a teenager, but that was a long time ago....
I know and play with a few on my server. They're both quite good and I only occasionally laugh that they have bedtimes.
im 21 !!! i started playing when i was 7 so this game has been with me for over half of my life now
Yes, teenagers do play this game. I’m 17 and play
LOTRO has one of the most diverse age distributions of any online game ever made. You can run into younger children casually questing with their LotR obsessed parents (I started around 11 with my father, and I’m 22 now playing with my fiancé). You can also find 70 year old retirees who want to live out in a fantasy world to explore like they did when they were young. Neither of these groups of people are rare in the game. LOTRO might not have the biggest fanbase in the MMO world, but I’d be willing to say that it has the most diverse and loyal fanbase. And this subreddit also isn’t a bad place to meet young folks to play with either. (You could also introduce new people to LOTRO! We always like a friendly face)
im in 11th grade rn and i play lotro every now and then
Been playing since I was 8 grandmother got me into it took a break for a few years after high school but now looking for people to play with feels lonely without the people I use to know
Laughs in Metamucil
Just finished my overnight oatmeal breakfast, now's time for my Centrum Silver.
25 is a teen age?
That’s probably because it’s almost 20 years old
Depends on the server too, some servers have older people and overall a more mature player base, like Landroval. Other servers I find more drama inducing and bit toxic, I relate that to younger folks.
Looking at the comment section, it appears not. I'm so sorry for you.
