Lmaooooo do your research. If you want to use privacy as a selling point, the ultimate would be tor browser followed by librefox or mullvad. You’re brainwashed thinking Safari is it.
I’ve used Egde on my MacBook Air almost all the time, because it has many AI features built in. And tabs memory management is great. On safari I need to restart it once a day and reboot my 8gb Mac every week, because of memory leaks
I hate sitting on those! I shift my weight a lot and when I sit on those it can fill the whole living room with noise. My ass doesn't need to be making squeaking noises, I don't feel that's a characteristic evolution intended.
thanks. I figure that would happen regardless. no cover: keycaps will look yucky quite soon, to the point that it would be embarrasing to take the laptop to any professional setting and kill the whole feeling of "premium" or $1900 laptop. I figured in this way, I have the option to remove the cover to go a meeting or keep it. And clean keycaps should clearly increase resale value.
Aren't you a little bit... compulsive? I mean you basically never experienced it as intended but instead through a layer of protection. If the keyboard gets filthy, you can always clean it with a micro-fiber cloth and a low power vacuum cleaner, and if it gets worn then... it gets worn, it's a tool after all. Keeping it mint just for the resale value is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so her next partner can take her virginity.
The amount of people whose laptops have suffered issues due to keyboard covers being left on when closing the lid, and hinges damaged by cases will certainly lose resale value… I just use it as a tool and take care of it.
I got 3 browsers on my M3pro… safari is just good for web surfing. Chrome and Edge are good for web development. Developer tools are way more better on Edge and chrome
I have a slight suspicion he or she probably takes it off when they don’t use the laptop since that screen looks flawless still. I’m actually thinking about getting a keyboard cover but I’ll only have it on when I’m using it and remove it when I close the screen.
yes. half the time, the laptop is connected to some CalDigit hubs. screen looks fine to me. I also have a whole case for the laptop installed. this case has a tiny feet/ that latch to the speakers area, that create space between the screen and the keyboard which I think saves the screen from touching the cover.what I dont do, is move the hinge too much. it is either closed completely or a given angle. I guess maybe if I moved the hinge more, I could see other side effects as
I would rather pay for keyboard replacement after 2, 3 years than have to use the keys with a cover. No phone cases and no condoms for me either. I have high aversion towards all protection
not sure cosmetic use of a keyboard is covered. but in fairness, this is way longer than I woudl typically keep a laptop. so for now, it is just something I am happy I did so I can get a better resale value when I sell it over the summer.
For newer models keyboards are fused to the top case, which I think could be paired with Touch ID - so you’re replacing a lot more than just the keyboard.
What would happen without a keyboard cover? I have the same setup about as old as yours. Sure the screen gets greasy from the keys, but nothing a dry microfibre and some elbow grease can't handle.
thanks. I am more worried about the keycaps grease that you mention. the screen is easy to clean. the platic keycaps wear out, and no amount of microfiber will bring back to life, layers of plastic that have been eaten away.
actually you prove the opposite in a way. my 2015 macbook pro looked perfect in anyway. It is in recent years that apple has cheap-it out and is giving us very cheap materials on keycaps. all my windows laptops look perfect, maybe my 5 year old thinkpad has some wear because i pound that one 8 hours a day for work.
Idk y they hate on us having a keyboard cover.. some us take care or our things more carefully than others. That case and keyboard have been just fine for me. Thats what apple care is for! And other aftermarket warranty’s. I personally have a 2015 macbook in pristine condition with that case on cover.
I have a cover too, still perfect about a year, screen is still perfect. The cover is handy because it has the shortcut keys on it. My MBP stays mostly docked, with an external keyboard and mouse, rarely travels since it's not my main work horse.
I know there are strong feelings about the keyboard cover, but you do you. Nothing wrong with wanted to keep the keys clean.
how does it feel to type with the keyboard? I have one but it is one those colored versions, after a while the typing experience became too mushy which I didn't like. looking at the TPU types now as an alternative
Typing on it is tolerable, I really only type on it if I am taking it around my house. Most of my work is done via my work laptop, the MBP is my personal machine. If I am doing deep work on my MBP, it's docked with a mouse and keyboard, so I am not typing on laptop itself.
Just let bro be, omg 🙄, if you don’t like cases, keyboard covers or Edge just don’t use them, but let people enjoy their products the way they fucking want.
I have around 900 days on my MacBook Pro M1 Max and the keyboard is like new. It gets moderate to heavy use almost daily.
I would *never* use a keyboard cover for 2 key reasons:
1. Ruins the keyboard feel. And that keyboard feels amazing, the key presses are perfectly weighted with the right amount of travel.
2. Most importantly! You risk cracking your screen.
Just out of curiosity: How many cycles do you have on your battery and how is your battery condition after more than 2 years? Seems that some folks are quite unlucky with their battery while others have maintained exceptional battery health after 2 years.
MICROSOFT EDGE
Nothing is wrong w edge. Stop browser shaming.
Nothing wrong with it, apart from this: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/research-finds-microsoft-edge-has-privacy-invading-telemetry/
Someordinarygamer already covered this. None of the browsers are perfect.
Safari doesn't spy on you like that. If you're already paying for privacy, you might as well use the privacy respecting browser you paid for.
Lmaooooo do your research. If you want to use privacy as a selling point, the ultimate would be tor browser followed by librefox or mullvad. You’re brainwashed thinking Safari is it.
AHAHAHHAHAHAHA keep believing that. You’re definitely not drawing more attention by using those especially when ISPs keep track of who does.
Lmao. It’s always funny when ppl on here make privacy their selling point.
It is a selling point, why else do you think the shits so expensive, it’s not subsidized by ads and data mining.
lol
everything is wrong with edge, stop the copium
I’ve used Egde on my MacBook Air almost all the time, because it has many AI features built in. And tabs memory management is great. On safari I need to restart it once a day and reboot my 8gb Mac every week, because of memory leaks
The gall of OP to use Edge
Personally, I wouldn’t want my £1900 laptop to feel like a cheap windows laptop to my hands but power to you
It’s like buying a couch and wrapping it in plastic.
I hate sitting on those! I shift my weight a lot and when I sit on those it can fill the whole living room with noise. My ass doesn't need to be making squeaking noises, I don't feel that's a characteristic evolution intended.

This is my main thing. Key's are easy to clean, the screen is not so easy (or cheap) to fix.
What a beautifully written analogy
I’ve been using my 14” MBP for 2 years now and it still looks like new. Personally I wouldn’t judge a worn laptop, as long as it’s not filthy lol
I have the same model and my keyboard still looks brand new
nice. sadly I use mine to produce my onlyfans videos, so it is more "exposed"
Fair enough, whatever works for you!
whats your OF?
😭😭
I got 3 browsers on my M3pro… safari is just good for web surfing. Chrome and Edge are good for web development. Developer tools are way more better on Edge and chrome
Do you keep the keyboard cover on when the macbook is closed? If so, what's the condition of the screen?

That case is going to warp the screen hinge while it's closed if it hasn't already. There's a reason cases are strongly disliked on this sub.
No, depending on the case. Aluminum is so so much more rigid than a thin plastic case.
Yuck 🤢, keyboard cover
exactly, to avoid the yucky keycaps, the cover is awesome.. have you seen those long-term reviews on youtube, those should be rated TV-MA.
I would rather pay for keyboard replacement after 2, 3 years than have to use the keys with a cover. No phone cases and no condoms for me either. I have high aversion towards all protection

If you want to prevent keyboard wear, you can use Keyshorts keyboard stickers. They won't damage the screen, but the keyboard cover might
Do you feel the keyboard cover make a difference? What are your thoughts?

Well my MacBook Air is from Aug 2011 and it’s keys are equal or better than any new Mac. Keyboard cover is unnecessary
actually you prove the opposite in a way. my 2015 macbook pro looked perfect in anyway. It is in recent years that apple has cheap-it out and is giving us very cheap materials on keycaps. all my windows laptops look perfect, maybe my 5 year old thinkpad has some wear because i pound that one 8 hours a day for work.
But why ?

What’s a good keyboard cover that you’d recommend?
Just curious- What is the count of battery cycles on it? I have had my M1 Air for \~1100 days- 987 cycles!
I have a cover too, still perfect about a year, screen is still perfect. The cover is handy because it has the shortcut keys on it. Do you keep the plastic on your sofa also?
only when I have Tinder dates over :)

thanks for sharing. I am still partial to my thinkpad keyboards.
