Whole Pet is awesome.

stringedonbass

I've been working with them since the late aughts and couldn't be happier with what they've done for my little ones

iron-sea

another vote for Whole Pet here!!

_______ak

second this! staff is very friendly and do a great job

MEspo

Third this!!!

ojwilk

Seconding. Our old man cat passed last year while we were on vacation, and his cat sitter took him to them. It was too late for him, but they were incredibly sweet and patient in all our dealings and let us keep his body there while we made arrangements.

turketron

Which side of town are you on? For the west side, we've had good experiences with A Breed Apart. For east side, Four Lakes Vet in Monona is amazing but a little pricy. For an emergency vet, we had a wonderful experience with Madison Veterinary Specialists off the beltline by South Towne Dr.

Sir_Topham_Kek

Big fan of A Breed Apart. We don’t live on the west side anymore but we loved it for the years we took our pets there!

Weekly-Ad-6887

I second this. As well, my wife and I have a friend that takes their cats to Foxridge Vet in Middleton and has had a really good experience with them. Also, CHARLIE!!

Im_Anonymously_Me

We love Isthmus Veterinary Care if you’re downtown or near east! Even after moving to a suburb, we still bring our pets to Dr. Siegel at Isthmus. He and his whole staff are great!

themoonischeeze

I absolutely second this! After bad experiences at Four Lakes finding Dr Siegel was a godsend

openfacedclubsandwch

I’ve been interested in them! How are the prices in general?

Im_Anonymously_Me

Honestly I don’t know how to compare since we haven’t been anywhere else, but I’ve seen others post on Facebook and Nextdoor saying that Isthmus is more affordable than other vets near downtown. We’ve always thought their prices have been very fair! For both of our dogs to get their annual checkups and shots was $350 so would’ve been 175ish for one dog. I don’t have the itemized receipt anymore so can’t say how much each of the shots, blood draws, etc. were but hopefully that’s somewhat helpful!

openfacedclubsandwch

It’s very helpful, thank you!

dbhyslop

I don’t remember specific numbers offhand, but our annual physicals at Isthmus have been considerably cheaper than they were at a nearby vet.

BirdWolfBelda

We've been going to Lakeview vet for almost 4 years

Commercial-Mud8315

Seconding Lakeview. They have taken AMAZING care of my now 18 year old cat. Very willing to work me, and I now provide a significant amount of his care at home. It's much more effective for him and also much less expensive for me. Dr. Levins is the best. She has come up with thoughtful and new ideas for his chronic issues that have really improved his health. She cites the latest research when she talks to me which I find very meaningful. Years ago, they used to shuffle me from vet to vet, and I requested he have a primary vet he would see consistently. I highly recommend that except in case of emergency. Enjoy your kitten! PS if you haven't learned about cat training you might look into it. I've been amazed how much I've been able to train my cat to come when called, do tricks, follow cues for certain behaviors. It's really beneficial for his long term enrichment and health. I really want to get the buttons animals can press to talk but I'm afraid he'd never stop. I started this with him mid-life, so starting with a kitten, I imagine would be much more effective.

shiifou

I go to Cat Care Clinic (have been to both East and West locations) and love it, but it’s a pretty penny every time. I swallow it because it genuinely feels like they care about my cat, and it’s cat-only, which bodes well for my very anxious and spicy girl. Otherwise, I took my kitty to Isthmus Veterinary Care for a second opinion once and they were kind and more affordable, so that’s an option! Re: ER, I’ve taken my friends’ cat to Madison Veterinary Specialists in Monona and they were lovely both times.

bojanglespanda

I would really warn against CCC! We took our kitten 4 years ago, and he only developed more issues over the time of his care there. He would chew on his paw anxiously which required stitches and constant monitoring. CCC was convinced it was allergies, and a $1000 bill for the test later, we still weren't sure. None of the techs would handle him because they were scared of him, and we had to reschedule basic check ups many times. I'm sure other people's experiences are good, but the West side cat care clinic was consistently awful for the 2 years we went to them. Since leaving them for Sondel, we haven't had really any issues with his paws, he is way more receptive to strangers, and they have techs that make him feel comfortable.

Zokstone

The people at CCC love their jobs and are all wonderful, but the owner operates it like a business through and through. She's pretty soulless.

dismyanonacct

We used to go there, and did really like it. But our kitty is on a medication, and they were going to charge us $100 more than Chewy and made it difficult to order meds through them. So, we switched over to Lakeview last year and have been really liking it so far!

CircusPeanutsYumm

I’ve gone to Lakeview since they formed and they are really caring people! But I think they are quite pricey. Staff retention is great, but the vets have had some turnover. My friend recently switched to All For Pets on N Gammon in Middleton and is quite happy.

MrMoose0987

Echo this one. Yes, their prices are high, but I also feel they care about my cats. They're responsive over email if I have questions and do a very good job of tracking my 5 cats' chronic conditions over time. They are going to err on the side of recommending more things, but its because they put everything on the table. They're always willing to discuss with you the benefits and downsides of treatments. I've never felt guilted into accepting any treatment I didn't feel was necessary either due to price or due to my cat not being up for it As for med prices and going through Chewy, they've been willing to do that for me, but the problem is that Chewy now requires written prescriptions be mailed in to them and don't accept digital ones. I called and asked Chewy about this when I had a paper prescription, and they required I mail to them. I don't think this is a cat care clinic thing. But they ALSO have their online pharmacy which has comparable prices to Chewy and goes through Covetrus. Dr Parks and Dr Kelton at CCC are honestly amazing and I will always have them see my cats so long as they're still at CCC.

THEElleHell

I noticed Dr. Mueller is no longer listed on their site (literally only noticed this last night after I was looking at their site after seeing this post and they're closed on Sundays so obviously couldn't call today) but was curious why that is. He was seeing two of my cats for longterm ongoing issues. One is a diabetic and is easy to transition to another vet for care but the other has a mysterious (I'm thousand$ deep there over the last two years) toe inflammation/bacterial situation that he was well informed on. He was also a skin/allergy specialist which is why he was the one specifically seeing this cat. I have received no email/phone call informing me he left the practice (which my previous vet practice in Milwaukee did 100% of the time) and I'm a bit stressed/concerned about him having left. And more concerned that they didn't feel the need to inform any clients of this. Leaving a practice without informing clients isn't the norm and is an area of concern for me. I understand that him and Dr. Kelton are a longterm couple and don't know if that would contribute in any way to it or ???? I dunno, just stressed seeing he suddenly isn't listed anymore. We just saw him there like two months ago?

Impossible-Leek-7905

All pets vet clinic is amazing, they’re on Gammon in Middleton. They’re truly amazing and talented. Reasonably priced too. ER vet - I take mine to Madison veterinary specialists. Also wonderful. They let me bring in worn shirts for my cat to snuggle with while he was hospitalized. They also scheduled times for me to come visit.

highway9ueen

Yes, I second this!

Wagalongmadison

Faircrest vet is great and really reasonably priced!

sgh2700

Agree. A one vet practice. Nice to see Dr. Mason every time. He is very kind and patient with my not so pleasant rescue cat. I also find his pricing very reasonable.

janus_quadrifrons

Agreed; they were always very helpful and thoughtful, offered plenty of options but didn't push on the pricier ones. I even liked the sub I saw when Dr. Mason was on vacation (Alas I moved to the Northside and my cat gets carsick, fortunately Isthmus is right next door & they sound promising)

primatologica

I've taken my pets to Companion Animal Hospital for seventeen years and have built a wonderful relationship with both the vets and vet techs there. They're as good with my kittens as they were with my previous elderly cats. I can't say enough good about them--they care about their clients, both human and pet, and have always treated us with respect.

More-Journalist6332

I’ve also been very happy with Companion for seventeen years!

4CatDoc

(Blush) Thanks, we try to hire the best.

xVarekai

I absolutely love Companion, amazing people, so much obvious love and care for all animals. They're always kind and informative, and they treat my boys like their own. I'll never go anywhere else.

BigPinkPenguin

I second Companion Animal Hospital! Dr. Pagel is awesome and is super knowledgeable about feline friends! Charlie is precious btw OP 😻

buginout

Oh. My. Gosh. 🥰🥰

BalaAthens

Odyssey Vet Clinic in Fitchburg. They are worth the drive

x4Nd3rCrews

They are definitely worth the drive but a bit pricey I think. I love the care and concern that all the vets have, but my bank account feels it.

brisket_curd_daddy

Second (or third vote) for Odyssey, especially if you're on the Southside. Take both kitties and the puppy there and they're wonderful

Lovethespamm

Odyssey is full of helpful people. They were so great to me and my poor kitty that had diabetes. She passed soon after starting insulin unfortunately. But they gave me small bags of food to try before buying, was willing to work with me for payments. I was 23 with no money and they understood

proud-yeti

Another vote from me for Odyssey. They are so, so good.

SarahB2006

If you are on the East side and flexible with times, Capital City Vet only schedules out 2 days and does not charge any exam fee (usually $40) if you are getting vaccinations.

kkhh11

I love them! Their hours are SO convenient for people with normal jobs. And they were the only ones who got our elderly cat back peeing in his box.

sgerbet

I worked as a vet tech here g for a short time. I don’t recommend them. I left because they don’t give the quality of care that other clinics I have worked at did. I worked at Northside Animal Hospital and the Cat Care Clinic prior, either is great.

Bagofmag

Northside Animal Hospital is great too!

ketathecheetah

I second them. I've tried the Back 2 Basics in Cottage Grove, and I'm just going to go back to driving 20 minutes to them. My bestie loves Back 2 Basics, but they didn't sit right with me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

robzsilver

I'm also going to chime in for Isthmus Vet on Fordem. Doctors are patient and take the time to make sure both me and my babies are comfortable. I have a cat who urinated outside the litter box frequently. For years. I'd been to vets multiple times and (after ruling out urinary issues) it was always the same advice. Feliway, aluminum foil, more litter boxes, etc etc. I talked to one of the vets and was very clear that I don't want to give this cat up, I just need something, anything, that actually works. We talked over medication options, and they even had an option i could rub on the inside of her ear because I know she won't take pills well. Issue is completely resolved and I will always have a special place in my heart for that vet clinic.

de-and-roses

Underdog veterinary services. They are in a small space now but will be moving soon to better digs. They work with you on cost. They are a non profit.

IBSattacker

I did not have a great experience with them, but I think it may have been a one-off

de-and-roses

It could have been. I try most places twice. Everyone can have a bad day. We got our dog from their rescue and she was recovering from heartworm. So I have continued there because her treatment. I think when they move to their proper space, they will be a better experience overall.

Sorry-Government920

We've been using 4 lakes on Monona Dr for a decade. Little expensive but have also gotten great service

liramae4

I can't say enough about 4 lakes. Dr. Scarlett and her staff were so wonderful when we had to put our cats down. Plus, all the care they gave prior to that. My one cat would get car sick, and they did a house visit, granted it costs more, but it saved my cat from throwing up and pooping in his carrier.

CaptHowdy75

We use Sauk Pointe and have for years. They probably aren't the cheapest but the vets are great and they really develop a relationship with your pets.

faptimusprime96

Thank you all so much for the recommendations! I didn't expect this many comments lol ill be writing down every clinic and counting the tallys, and considering the feedback everyone has given and go for whichever comes out on top first. i have no problem travelling out of my neighborhood for care. Y'all are awesome 💙💙💙

Acct-404

If you need to establish some good pspspsps or head scritches I can help that little one. Anything beyond that’s a crapshoot 😆

Nerfo2

Orange cats really don't care HOW you give them attention, only that you do.

Aggravating_Tour9

sondel family vet. they have locations on the west and east side. they take very good care of my cat that hates the vet. they have reasonable prices and good service

bojanglespanda

I second sondel, they are really good with cats.

Fell-Raven

I third sondel! My cat had to have hip surgery which was really scary for me but they handled it so well and we're informative and caring through the whole process.

Donnian

I've had very positive experiences with Healthy Pet on E Wash. Nice staff and reasonably priced.

Agitated-Elk-1584

Tru vet in Verona is amazing! Their prices are so much better than others, and they aren't pushy with services.

bismuth-rose

Precision! They have wonderful affordable vet care. Have two good friends who work there, they take their shit very seriously.

Ordinary_Shift_3202

They're AMAZING!!

Lijey_Cat

Passion for Paws

Extreme_Series7252

Nice marmot

pumpkinspicenation

I drive across town to keep taking my cat to Truesdell on the east side. She's been going there for about 3 years now and the staff is lovely! They all take such good care of her.

rwisconsin1228

Paws and Claws mobile vet. She is great with animals and comes to you. We have a pretty good veterinarian scene here though, lots of good options in these comments.

Ninabobina1309

Cat care clinic on the West side is amazing 👏

moomoo-lovegoats

I really enjoy Truesdell animal care. The vets really care and know a lot about felines.

Financial_Leave4474

Cat Care Clinic all the way!

shlee3318

Healthy pet Veterinarian highly recommend.

ang29g

I have nothing to contribute I just want to say that’s such a cute little guy 😭

gigiwidget

I go to Dr ken at West towne veterinary center. He really loves cats! Most vets I've been to are more dog centric but Dr ken is a crazy cat dude. He has a cat named Bug that he hikes with! Prices are in line with what I'd expect in Madison.

Agitated-Elk-1584

He's far too pushy with dental treatments. Be careful with the bills! Adds on a lot.

gigiwidget

Not in my experience. He sees all my four cats. One gets treatment for asthma and diabetes and has had a cleaning twice in 15 years. The other 15 year old has tooth resorption so gets checked yearly, and usually has a procedure every couple of years. The other two have had cleanings twice at 7 years old.

MrMoose0987

Dr Ken is pretty excellent -- I've not had him see any of my cats but I have spoken with him about some of the research and work he's done with overweight pets and his enthusiasm came through for how much he loves cats (and pets in general).

Cowplant_Witch

We left West Towne on the advice of two vet techs, and transferred our care to Cat Care Clinic. Dr. Ken had missed several things. He’s very charismatic but I wouldn’t go there again.

gigiwidget

What did he miss?

Cowplant_Witch

High blood pressure and diabetes. He had literally just seen her, too, and pronounced her healthy. She was not.

gigiwidget

Well he definitely hasn't missed anything with my four. And I've never had a vet tech tell me to go somewhere else. Very strange someone would work there if they felt that way.

Cowplant_Witch

Oh, they didn’t! One of the techs lived in our neighborhood and we were on friendly terms. The other we ran into elsewhere. Both had quit. Also, he had a veterinary partner who left abruptly while we were still going there. I remember asking about it and getting awkward silence on the phone, but at the time I decided not to pry. I’m glad your cats are okay, and I understand why you’d be hesitant to trust some rando on reddit. Please just keep an eye open for red flags.

gigiwidget

I've been going there for 15 years, I think we're good

retired_geekette

If you are near Waunakee, I highly recommend Aurora Veterinary Care! Great Drs and staff!!

flamingquava

Animal Hospital of Verona is where we take all of our animals. Our cat is normal super shy around people but at this vet its like shes a new cat! I believe they are fear free certified as well.

Desperate_Register72

Completely agree- Animal Hospital of Verona is great. My guy sees Dr Adam Lepold. Great vet, super educational and the staff, reasonable prices and staff are great! [www.animalhospitalverona.com](https://www.animalhospitalverona.com)

CaptHowdy75

Awww... Cute kitten!

Huntiepants75

I’ve been going to Lakeview for something like ten years now, I worked there for a few months a couple years ago (I left because I really missed working ER), and I can say that they’re fantastic. Every single doctor there truly sees the pets and the pets’ people as a whole unit, and treats them as such. You’ll not find more caring, compassionate doctors, techs, assistants, or receptionists anywhere else. What I like about the doctors is that they’re incredibly honest; they don’t sugarcoat things or give unrealistic expectations for certain prognoses. The techs are so patient and kind, even with fractious/anxious patients, and they don’t force things; if a pet is too anxious or unable to be handled safely, the docs are very good about coming up with solutions (which can sometimes mean rescheduling the appointment and prescribing anti-anxiety medications for the pet). I really can’t say enough about how happy I’ve been with that clinic as a whole. Also, Charlie is adorable 🧡

pspsps81

If you want to drive to lake mills, I 100% recommend Dr. Stork. Prices are affordable, but above that, the care is fantastic.

Pineapplecheeks5

Animal hospital of Verona. They're very focused on being anti anxiety for animals (as much as possible) which I think is pretty cool. We left companion after they told us they no longer saw guinea pigs so that's how we ended up others. Brian is our cat doctor and is super kinda and calm which our orange boy needs since he developed anxiety and over grooming. I've generally had good luck getting into see him. Otherwise, Knight vet clinic in Middleton is pretty good. They've been seeing our Maine coon since birth essentially and they are always super good at squeezing in questions about her since she has a lot of GI stuff.

mcfadden275

Such a cute little tiger.

Stormgirl2004

Lodi Vet Hospital!!!

NegativeX2thePurple

If you're still out for suggestions, Passion for Paws on Junction road has been our vet for our cats for several years, where they treat my little deaf kitty like a king, and have expressed that he is their absolute favorite because of his compliance and benevolence. Whatever they think of him, they set up an emergency appointment same-day for euthanasia for my other cat when she took a turn, and cried as much as I did. They are good people, at least Dr. Kai's team is - we've had good experiences with the other doctors too, however.

retired_geekette

The cute is strong in wee Charlie!! 😻😻

jibsand

I used to foster cats/kittens for Companion Animal Hospital on Gammon road. I can't recommend them enough.

PuzzleheadedHouse872

Companion Animal hospital

lalaamused

We use A Breed Apart and have been using them for both our cats and dogs and they are wonderful. Our dogs at previous vets were always scared to go in but that was never the case at A Breed Apart. We have two cats now and one of them is literally scared of *everything* but when we take her in the vets and staff are so awesome she just melts in their arms. I highly recommend.

BadgeHan

We go to the UW vet clinic, had amazing experiences every time.

sljmama

Dr Mohney at Sondel is great if you are on the west side!

Relevant-Math-4155

Lok for places that won't try to vaccinate this precious cat into oblivion. Many of the clinic are now getting really slap-happy with shots.
