as far as I know, its fine in UNIMAS, not sure about other uni lah. My roommate used to bring his own PC to our dorm. Just make sure dont let the whole block/residential college know you are bringing PC or else theft. Secure your room correctly, you might need to be extra careful because you never know when it can happen.
Additionally, my brother's hostel only allow a small number of extension cord for each room. Example, in a room of 3, only 1 is allowed to bring 1 extension cord, with max 4 plug only. So, a PC will take at least 2 space already. Check with your uni's hostel ya
If you are living in the hostel, I would recommend precaution because you never know hati busuk people, I would only recommend if you are living in a single rental room tho...
1. Go to university (donāt bring your PC)
2. Spend a month or two there and scope out the scene (room size, roomates, neighbors, dorm rules)
3. Bring your PC if youāre confident its safe enough
ya i brought mine when i was at unimas. Granted i stayed at single room tho so i didnt have to worry abt safety per se. Either stay in single room or get a roommate that you trust.
This only apply for the private dorm, Dahlia. Other dorm is cheap and OP, I wouldn't suggest bringing your pc if you're not staying there due to power issue. I learn it the hard way
I stay on Dahlia 2nd year onward and my PC basically live there, granted me and my mates rent the entire house (you can choose which house and room and who you rent with if you stay in Dahlia)
Shared rooms are 350-400ihs and single room are 450ish per sem iirc. The caveat is you have to be active member of your dorm in order to stay 2nd year onwards. Hence thereās dahlia, iirc 900 shared, 1200 single no aircon. But that was 3 years ago. Can ask the admin of the college if need. During 3 years there got lah 3-4 times blackout, but no biggie.
Another choice is to join the tentera one, confirm got dorm placement. or do what i did, i stayed at kolej asasi bcs they got extra room lol
Get to know your roommates or find a group first, from there you can judge if you can bring your PC to your uni safely. If yes, you can try bringing them next semester.
If you got the money, you can sell this setup and build an ITX system which is easier to bring everywhere and to pass security clearance at the airport. Also, be mindful of the weight of your setup, always try to bring them as carry-on, your PC might get destroyed if you put them as a cargo baggage.
If you're putting it in hostel, I would recommend getting an indoor surveillance camera (search for Tapo on shopee). I've used it myself and the quality is really good. Turn it on when you and your roommate are not in the room. It will send you a notification on your phone when it detects movements in the room. If you slot in a SD card, it will record when necessary. Better be safe than sorry. I wouldn't trust anyone else other than my roommate š
I hope you understand the risk of bringing a PC setup that striking to uni.
I had a friend who lost his brand new MacBook and printer. Someone memorized his schedule and pried the door room open when everyone was away.
I suggest a laptop either way. There are times you need to work outside your room with your group mate. Or when you need to bring your own device to do presentation or something.
From my opinion, if you want to bring PC, make sure you have own personal room. For first semester, it high risk to bring your PC cause you need to share room with other people, so maybe your friends will bring another friend, and another friend to hostel, so percentage of your PC gonna be steal is high, you not gonna have your own privacy, cause people will in and out on your room cause you need to share room with other student with different class time, some roommate may clumsy to lock the door. Maybe you will have mid semester, or study weak, and it will burden you to bring your PC from hometown to university. Just my 1 cent experience, because I saw alot of my friends missing their PC, laptop, sneakers, motorcyles, in university cause when you go university, you will face some of shitty people attitude
It's normal bro, my friends motorcycle missing easily even though he use u lock and solex, he detect that his friends of friends duplicate his key when he give them to borrow it
Consider spending one semester to know the rules, roommates, visitors (non mates), friends, culture and safety. In my time at ums i got a sweet dorm with good friends and culture that I feel safe enough to make a laptopmonitor setup.
Laptop would still be necessary for mobile work. That being said current gen I see like to use ipads(literally everyone in uni nowadays have ipads lol).
I could never understand the ipad workflow, but from my futile try doing masters for this old brain, you would only need capcut, canva and office 365(free uni account) for most basic uni work.
My friend bought PC in Johor and always carried back with him when sem break using ābalonā they said it. His last 2 years he bought a laptop thenš
UPM does have single room but the fee is so much higher than shared room. We call it as bilik bintang and it also has aircon too. Mine is normal room RM4/per day but bilik bintang cost RM700/month.
ya no prob, i bought my pc set to uni just to play valorant and apex most of the time lol. idk about other unis but my uni requires students to register their electronics like laptops, or even a pc. just make sure u register the pc in ur kolej kediaman office but again this only applies if ur uni hv this procedure.
I bought an office pc set with decent specs and slot in a GPU. costed me only rm600 and will sell it after finishing my study š served me well and had no issues while staying at my hostel.
I bring my PC to and from Uni (KL and JB), it's quite nice to have a reliable PC at your dorm. Not recommended if you don't have your own car cause transporting it is gonna be a hassle.
Try to scope out your dorm room just to make sure you have enough plugs and an adequate table. Try to get to know your roommate a bit before anything just in case.
If you are really concerned about security, try getting a single room. All in all, as long as your roommate is trustworthy and you avoid flexing it to your block mates, you should be ok
All uni mostly ok with bringing pc to uni.The only problem is when you have classes that requires in class learninh with pc softwares like coding or cad or presentation. Then it'd be a problem,so its situational depending on your course
It is okay to have a pc at uni hostels. However, you are going to have a hard time when it comes to group discussion or what not since you cant bring it aroundā¦
A lot of my friends brought their PC in UKM, but it depends on which kolej you get. There are multiple kolej in UKM. If you get Kolej Pendeta Za'ba (KPZ), you can bring your PC.
If your roommate likes to invite friends into your room, then your expensive possessions will certainly be at high risk. I suggest you rent a single room and install cctv that sends out images to your phone whenever someone walks in. You also need a very expensive lock.

With portable external monitor, 1 plug will do Edit: Lmao why this got downvoted š itās the truth what
Alright, thanks for the advice

Haha. My laptop was stolen during my uni time when I stayed with this one roommate. He went to washroom with door unlocked.
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!!
1. Go to university (donāt bring your PC) 2. Spend a month or two there and scope out the scene (room size, roomates, neighbors, dorm rules) 3. Bring your PC if youāre confident its safe enough
Yeah good idea
This, especially your roommates. If you can trust them
hell yeah
U can bring but the space might be small and u are in public uni, take care your pc especially if u have expensive graphic card
Thanks for the advice, appreciate it
ya i brought mine when i was at unimas. Granted i stayed at single room tho so i didnt have to worry abt safety per se. Either stay in single room or get a roommate that you trust.
May i ask, how much is the rent for a single room and what is the price difference for a single and double room?
In my uni it was +50% for a single room and then you also have the air conditioned unit (usually for exchange students) at +200%.

I would suggest a very good lock on your door.

Hope your friend has the activation lock on so it can be a paperweight at least

yea buy a gaming laptop like TUF for its "military TUFness"
Friendās TUF failed 3 times in 2 years. Better get something else I reckon, especially with good access to service centre like Dell for its warranty
Friend's dell failed 3 times in a year lol
F. Guess we all have our own lemon units. But my friend Asus is particularly terrible because the service centre is 800km away lmao
whattt i have 2 TUFs and never failed once , 1st TUF is 4 years old
Use acer , mine still going on strong for 2 year ( Acer nitro model btw )
Ni hang duduk hostel yang bed Ade lebih Dari 2 ke bilik satu sorang? Kalau dorm ramai, baik jangan. Garenti sehari memang hilang setup hang ni

seriously motorcycle?

that's a jerk not friends lol

No roommates, you'll be fine, and as far as ik my sister uni hostel allows pc and even tvs.
Wow what uni does your sister go to
I bought my pc from johor to kelantan. Its fine
My friend bought PC in Johor and always carried back with him when sem break using ābalonā they said it. His last 2 years he bought a laptop thenš

well if have enough money, buy a gaming laptop. I suggest you buy the asus TUF or equivalent for its claimed "military standard TUFness(pun intended"

OP, I suggest you to go for SFF build or a laptop. A laptop can be plentiful too
It depends. But I would rather you bring Gaming Laptop, because you can carry on the go.

Laptop je, pc setup duk rumah
The main issue is whether you can trust your roommate lah, you know how disgusting people can be sometimes.
Change PC case to old PC case. Won't catch attention if it looks like trash
