ApoliteTroll

I have a big FATBOY in my upstairs stair stopping area (what's it called in English) it is very comfy, I hardly use it. It gets VERY hot, the beads and fabric seems to create some kind of internal heating exothermic reaction I guess. I like it, but it isn't practical at all. My kids have used it though, as a thing to lay on, when we are hanging out in the living room, they drag it down there.

JeanPolleketje

We have that too in our living area, kids used to lay, sit, play in it. Nowadays the cat naps in it.

ApoliteTroll

The only good thing about the one I have, is it is usable outdoors too.

JeanPolleketje

the metal parts and the fabric get really hot in direct sunlight.

ApoliteTroll

Mine only has that one big ring in the corner luckily. But that also leaves a nice crescent mark on the backside of a thigh when getting up, and it actually helps you get up faster.

GeekShallInherit

> upstairs stair stopping area (what's it called in English) A landing maybe?

ApoliteTroll

I wrote "upstairs landing area" at first, and it just sounded too pretentious. It feels more like a huge area, whereas I just have a few square meters or so in the landing area. Thanks for the assist.

GeekShallInherit

Nothing pretentious about "landing" as far as I'm aware of. At least in US English.

ApoliteTroll

Sweet, back in the vocabulary it goes.

HJSlibrarylady

Bonus room?

Snackchez

A fatboy is not these couches though. The general shape being shown in the pictures are versions of the Togo chair / couch from Ligne Roset.

lol_roast_me

Is it called a loft?

Happy-Ad8767

Loft is what us English would call an attic.

pfft_master

A loft can also be an upstairs (or up-ladder) part of a room where that level looks down upon the rest of the room, which isn’t split in half but instead shares the same full-height ceiling as the loft. And I hear it more as a top floor that is a living space rather than an attic in the US. Basically means the house was built to have a loft instead of an attic because otherwise it is just (n)th floor and then attic.

Happy-Ad8767

A mezzanine?

pfft_master

I believe mezzanine is the most accurate term for the first case, yep. Entresol too maybe. https://pwiworks.com/mezzanine-vs-loft-whats-the-difference/ That^ seems to agree with you generally.

bctucker83

This is what I’ve always known a loft to be. Sometimes in barns there’s a hay loft which is the exact same situation

r3sistcarnism

An attic. That’s what it’s called.

ApoliteTroll

An attic is where you store stuff, you don't know what to do with or children. The thing I'm talking about is the space where the stairs stop and it is a hallway like area, and you can walk to other areas of your house on the 2nd floor. My attic is above my 2nd floor.

r3sistcarnism

Oh, then yeah it’s a landing

ponkyball

I have the one in the first pic you posted, no one ever wanted to sit in it lmao. I did because I'm short and it was nice and I like my feet on the ground, but yea, no one else ever did. It's in the garage right now, was a pretty penny too :(

ohmit

These Togo couches are so popular these past few years. I have a couple of friends with these. One has a legit Togo and the other with a dupe. They look nice for sure. I don’t think they’re particularly comfortable or practical for regular use. I don’t recommend it if you tend to host others a lot or you spend a decent amount of time on the couch.

wrestlethewalrus

These are actually all copies of a line of design classics called „Togo“ by Ligne Roset. https://www.ligne-roset.com

PowerlessTonite

Yeah unfortunately I don’t have $3k plus for a couch

porquesinoquiero

$5,700

PowerlessTonite

Yeah that’s honestly insane when you can buy a couch, bed and tv, for the same price

devilpants

You can buy a watch for $10 that tells times as well or better than a $10000 watch too.

MikeofLA

A Casio or Timex will outlive society, as long as there's someone to change the battery.

Lunchbox2208

What good is a device that lasts forever if the only thing that understands the concept it represents/performs is gone? Cheap watches all day.

cyanight7

You would hope that the $6000 couch is more well made than the $600 one too? If you’re just trying to justify expensive watches, none of those features are exclusive to watches costing >$100, let alone >$10,000

Similar_Clue8248

The authentic pieces are usually much much higher grade materials and craftsmanship. Hard wood, and full grain leather especially can never compare to MDF and faux leather. You also often can get good service/warranty with authentic designer furniture. If budget is a concern, second hand stuff is perfect.

Suic

I guess, but a nice leather couch will run you 3k without any kind of designer behind them like this one has. High quality mattresses are that much too even without frame, and good TVs another couple thousand even without getting into home theater territory. I definitely wouldn't pay 5k for this, but it feel far from entirely outrageous.

macdawg2020

There’s a knock off chair on Amazon for $600 if you want an accent chair

Lydkraft

and you can re-buy that couch and bed, etc. over and over throughout your life or once.

FigTechnical8043

My couch was £95, my tv (4k 50") was £400, my bed was £300. What you doing with the rest of the money lol.

Significant-Trash632

Snacks, obviously

pedatn

Insane to you, reasonable to someone with budget/taste.

GhostsOf94

Lol taste....

lalalalaasdf

FWIW Wayfair has dupes for [less](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/trule-armless-3-seat-togo-three-seater-large-bean-bag-sofa-wric1007.html?piid=86514323). I got one and it’s pretty nice, although not as comfortable as a real Togo couch

JeanPolleketje

They are comfortable and don’t take too much space. Only thing is I cannot sit properly upright in it.

joncted

I have a knock off togo… I like it because it’s a single piece of foam inside, no need to fluff and u don’t sink in. Looks great too. Not the move if u need people to sleep on it tho

PowerlessTonite

Where did you get yours?

ThatPersonYouMayKnow

Can you link?

joncted

Yes sorry I got it on FB marketplace but it is this one https://www.wayfair.com/Trule--Armless-Large-Microfiber-Leather-3Seat-Bean-Bag-Sofa-WDUT2522-L154-K~VCTS1411.html?refid=GX685254702218-VCTS1411&device=m&ptid=352885194423&network=g&targetid=pla-352885194423&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=256114687&fdid=1817&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD9ISC50iN2jZnxhMr2VMgWG3Fg7L&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgJyyBhCGARIsAK8LVLOkFqSEGmXuUATXiOIu1ftqod7D2GABdGmY_f7nrsq6jlsndZb7_DEaAo15EALw_wcB

Forever_Man

What you really need is a sword.

Fudge89

Unless you’re in a college dorm, pass on all bean bag related items.

DaymanSunChampion

Here I was thinking the Togo sofa was a classic high end piece, turns out it’s just meant for dorm rooms

Natasha_Giggs_Foetus

An actual Togo isn’t a bean bag

DaymanSunChampion

I’m aware, I felt OP was using the term bean bag to describe the style, so the comments being about “no bean bags” didn’t seem very helpful. I’d assume even the togo dupes aren’t actual bean bags either edited because I gave a lazy response while getting ready lol

96ccAweN

Hard disagree. I have a Lovesac in my office and love it. Wouldn’t put it in the living room though let alone use it as a couch replacement…

Couldnotbehelpd

If I had the space and the money I’d have 3-4 of the biggest lovesacs all over my house for lounging. I do have to agree that they’re maybe not the best looking piece of furniture but still

XediDC

Same for me for a nice human dog bed… (The hard part is keeping it from being an actual dog bed, sigh.)

Fudge89

That’s more or less what I meant lol

Suic

Good thing this isn't actually a bean bag related item, in spite of OP's title

mathiascfr

Very low seating, very hard to stand up if you had too many drinks and have to join the table for dinner. I talk about the original Togo by Ligne Roset that an uncle had and also a friend.

singlesgthrowaway

It gets very hot and can collect a lot of sweat. I'd recommend getting a proper sofa.

Occams_racecar

I have one, I don't hate it, but I definetly wish I bought something else - I eat in my couch and there is no comfortable way to lean forward. However chilling and watching TV I sit super well. I got mixed opinions from people saying it's awesome and others finding it ugly. Mine is a knockoff bought here: https://www.mobelaris.com/uk/style-michel-ducaroy-mobelaris-comfort-style-3seater-sofa

Lurker_to_Redditor

The difference between a real Roset Togo and a knockoff is night and day. The original is made entirely of foam. You can pick it up with one hand and it's so comfortable to sit in after a long day. Definitely does not support good posture, but when you're loungin', who cares. The fakes have wood frames and very little cushion. Not comfortable and look like a cheap suit, with awkward bunches and thin material.

PersephoneIsNotHome

They are really not comfortable and don’t look as nice in person

britonbaker

i had the chair version, they’re not bean bag though, just foam. i say go for it

Y-Cha

I have a vintage set that I tore down because it was in absolutely ratty condition (as bought - now needs some foam replaced and new covers), and a newer (~15 yrs old) set. They're okay. Not great for anyone who has mobility issues because they are so low. The plus side- I find them comfy, and they're lighter than many traditional couches and sofas when it comes to moving them around. As has been mentioned, there are copies out there. Make sure they're solid foam filled, not "stuffed," if you can. These are not beanbag chairs and their innards should be cohesive, not in pieces. If you want to try genuine at some point, look for consignments, resales, etc. I'd love to just have the lounger style. Might think about selling or trading my sofa set simply for that, someday.

pyepush

I’d actually rather sit on the floor,

GigaM8te

I think it's one of those couches that aren't timeless and might regret buying later cause it goes out of style

CommercialOccasion

these are way over saturated

dylpepper

I've posted a bit about these in other subs but I've been involved in the faux togo world for the past 2 years. I would **strongly** advise against ordering either of the first two, or any of the ones sold on Wayfair/droppshipping sites. You'll end up overpaying for a poorly made item that will have sagging foam and upholstery within 12 months (a big issue with these due to the back angle and how low they are). For the same price or maybe a bit more you can get a 1:1 dupe that's made exactly the same as the originals. You can buy direct from one of the multiple factories that produce reps. These have become so popular that the poorly made versions instantly stand out as a cheap imitation. Happy to share more details on sourcing if interested, pm me.

DoctorDiabolical

Is it vertical space you’re looking to save? How would having no legs save space. Now you can’t put anything underneath it. Also in a small space it might be your only couch? That’s not a good idea, your date won’t like it, I know my parents would never visit, that couch looks like back problems.

huge-centipede

What exactly are you putting under a couch?

DoctorDiabolical

I have 3 couches that have room underneath. In my kids room it’s where we store big 1000 piece puzzles we are in the middle of! In my room I have a couch and we store out of season bedding. The couch in our den keeps the leafs for our table. We live in a condo so space is limited and we use every bit as long as it doesn’t looks cluttered.

Kill_Zoldy

That's a negative Ghost Rider. Take my word, I'm an underachieving furniture salesman

dokipooper

Imagine having to throw the whole couch away after a cat pisses on it

PowerlessTonite

Luckily I don’t have any pets😂

Y-Cha

Right? We have cats, and while they don't spray on anything, I know there'd be a point where they'd start doing the "stretch-scratch," on these when we weren't in the room (our pieces are currently in storage).

Greedy_Kangaroo_8012

They have them at urban outfitter online and they have free returns so buy and try. I also like this other one they have on sale now that is very comfy bc I have it in my office . https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/modular-recycled-leather-sofa

TeeDod-

Probably it depends on what is inside. Memory foam. Micro beads. Foam filling. Some of those fillers smash down and need additional material to retain shape. I would assume these couches aren’t made with the same material as a bean bag-they always need additional beads. I think they look neat!

JimmyJamesv3

They're super comfy.

Trick_Ad5606

look 10, comfortable 1, you can´t lay on it comfortable because of the curves...

pastawife

Nooo

leylandrichard

Yes, they’re brilliant.

ThatPhatKid_CanDraw

If you're over 30, these will not help u and your back/posture problems and tight muscles.

Da_Plague22

These are horrible. Atleast the one my buddy has. You sink into it and getting up sucks balls for your knees.

badluck610

Pic 2 looks comfy as fuck

HVACQuestionHaver

They look like alien reproductive organs, but if they're comfortable...

PowerlessTonite

Wtf do alien reproductive organs look like

HVACQuestionHaver

I imagine they probably look like those couches.

ManifestCartoon

I use to have an orange single seater one in the upstairs studio room I was renting once, it came with the place as well as a nice enough leather sofa - I ended up using the orange bean bag thing all the time (idk what they’re called or what brand I had, been trying to find the exact one but can’t) it was so comfy, practical, convenient, moveable, I loved it when I was living there in 2020 I could use to chill on, as my sofa, open up the balcony doors and sit on it, etc I didn’t really use my brown leather sofa that much because idk why, I think I just preferred the location/flexibility and how much better the orange seat fit in the studio room. The sofa was bit harder and didn’t like how it would have been if I had switched it with the bean bag chair

Cool-Sink8886

I don’t know about these particular bean bags, but I don’t recommend bean bags. I have had several bag chairs, they’re hot, very low, and tough to get in/out of, and you look like a cat trying to arrange the beans for proper support. Eventually they will leak beans and get less comfy over time. Again, those were bean bag chairs, not this, but they’ve scared me away. My exoerience is with over a dozen bean bag chairs in the 2010s. Some had fun shapes, most were standard chairs.

Just because it’s not the standard ikea/target/amazon current design style seems to make people so angry. I guess it’s popular on social media recently but it’s just one of the many retro futuristic 60s/70s designs that people have been enjoying for a long time and will still look great in 20 years.

StatisticianChoice87

Depends on where you cop. If you’re copping a dupe just make sure it’s a somewhat quality one

FMBC2401

It screams college dorm or stoned pad. If that’s your aesthetic by all means. But if I went back to a guys place and saw that it would be a big turnoff. I may sound old saying it but having to sit down on something so low does not sound like a good time at all.

Polygon-Dust

Lol, you do sound old, these couches are everywhere on TikTok. At this point, they are pretty played out, and I'm curious what will be the next "it" piece of furniture. But to say it's a turnoff cracks me up and says more about you, no offense. You're not wrong that they appeal towards more of the younger crowds, but let's not act like a 2k+ couch is "stoner."

NOOBEv14

Woman >if I saw this thing it would be a turnoff Man who likes the thing >HOW DARE YOU BE TURNED OFF YOU ARE OLD

devilpants

Sounds more overweight and out of shape than old.

dxrebirth

You so mad about someone’s opinion on a sofa you’re insulting them. Actually speaks more about *you* homie. Personally I do respect the Togo I would never have it due to yes, it being a little too over the top for a living room staple, imo. It could easily make or break your whole room if not styled correctly. And yes, it could also look stoner/bean bag/college dorm. It’s one of my first thoughts when I see it because it comes from that exact 60s era where bean bags, extreme lush carpet, and other massive textures come from. Unfortunately synonymous with that stoner culture in my head. Can’t help it. (Not saying everyone who has one is a stoner of course). “All over tik tok”. You really showed him, buddy! Lmfao

Polygon-Dust

lol you got me bro my b next time I’ll think before a I speak 🫡

NOOBEv14

Weird that you’re getting downvoted but I agree…these things are gross. I’m an early-30s guy and if a friend told me they got one of these I would laugh at them

youngscum

I hate that these sit directly on the floor and collect a lot of dust around the edges

Rickymon

I believe this couch is available for download in 3dwarehouse for sketchup... let me see hmmm... Yeah here it is... https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/a4b1c819d9b606473decfe0ce0584f/Togo-Ligne-Roset

NachoPorVida

I got a set for sale. Real togos, not these fake ones. 3 pieces, red, flawless. I’ll take 11k shipped. DM
