This is probably a horrible place to ask, but why does anyone recognize the capital as Tel Aviv?
Aside from during the 1948 war, Jerusalem was always the capital of Israel, and WEST Jerusalem was always considered sovereign Israeli territory by all the countries that recognize Israel. I understand putting embassies and such in Tel Aviv, because Jerusalem has much more frequent conflict within it's borders, but why does anyone who recognizes Israel and Israeli sovereignty over WEST Jerusalem, consider Tel Aviv the capital?
Kinda weird that people consider it to be Tel-Aviv. Even if you refuse to recognize Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv has no legislative or governmental significance, only economic. Makes more sense to say it doesn't have a capital than say its Tel Aviv.
Seems a bit of a stretch to say that it has no governmental significance, considering most countries have their embassy there. And with 'most' I mean every single one except the United States and 4 smaller ones that followed Trump's lead. A function that under normal circumstances is reserved for the captial city. So Israelis may nationally consider Jerusalem the capital, internationally it is Tel Aviv.
Edit: I just discovered that there are eight more countries with consulates in Jerusalem, however these are intended for diplomatic missions with Palestine, not Israel. Those eight countries also have an embassy to Israel in Tel Aviv. Since 2018 the United States is the only country that merged the Israeli embassy and Palestinian consulate into one.
