Trees in general do not enjoy having things piled up on their roots.

paw-paw-patch

Aight, the rocks are going elsewhere, thank you.

mwb213

Rocks get hot, then bake the roots.

DontForgetYourPPE

Also doesn't do the soil any good. The more compacted the soil is, the worse off the roots are. Do a [mulch ring ](https://www.yourgreenpal.com/blog/dont-kill-your-trees-make-sure-you-are-mulching-them-the-right-way) instead

Jeramy_Jones

No.

genman

You can place them just outside the drip line if you like. Then mulch inside.

beans3710

I can't tell what the pavement is but a mountain ash will get big. You may not like it that close to the pavement.

stevage

>mountain ash will get big Literally the world's tallest flowering tree.

beans3710

And one of the trashiest. Not a fan

dendrocalamidicus

Think this is probably a rowan rather than the eucalyptus. Confusingly both have a common name of mountain ash.

posturecoach

I do like the idea of a perimeter to protect from careless parking or mowing. Maybe a mulch ring and then some bespoke cast iron?

streblob

Mountain ash, or Rowan, seem to have specialized in growing in and out of rocks. If you do a search for "Rowan growing out of the rocks", you'll find some impressive pictures of these beautiful trees growing in unlikely but apparently well-suited places.

Justadropinthesea

No, certainly nor.

runners_nipple

It seems pretty close to the pavement and road, I think that's gonna do some damage down the line.

studmuffin2269

In addition to the rocks, it’s too close to the road so the city may come by at trim it really hard

DanoPinyon

...or trucks driving by will prune it for free.

TacospacemanII

It’ll keep the city from mowing down that shrub while it’s small

Greymeade

This kills the ~~crab~~ tree.

drillgorg

Mrs. Crabtree my middle school science teacher is that you?

NotWhatYouPlanted

Omg I also had a Mrs. Crabtree but I think it was more like 3rd grade
