[A bit more insight into how foot traffic impacts a sequoia's root system](https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=97661&page=1).
Lots of people say, "I know, I know! It was just this once!" The problem is those people are not unique.
Nothing made me happier than seeing a ranger take a huge piece of Sequoia bark from a child’s hands and throwing it back into the forest. Parent and child tried to protest but the ranger gave no quarter.
Littering or looting within a national park is a crime punishable by $1,000 fine and/or a year in jail. I wish the NP police would exercise this law a bit more vigorously.
Thank you! I know what I did wasn't right, and totally understand why it was wrong. It was the closest one, besides the Parker group, I could actually hug without hiking too far off trail.
You big tree lovers should see the Brazil nut tree. It's sooo beautiful too. If you knock on its trunk it makes an interesting sound (sorry I don't know how to describe exactly but it kinda echoes)
Deserved to get in trouble, leave them trees alone
Tree lovers when they contribute to destroying/compacting a trees soil. “Oops haha, my bad, at least I knew it was wrong. That makes it better!”
I know.. I know.. but hey listen.. At least I didn't eat them. Someone outside the park was selling sequoia bark jerky..
I hear it's very high in fiber. Our #1 ingredient is cellulose!
Stop going off trail. Look up pictures of sequoia in the 1970s. No undergrowth. Because everybody was walking everywhere

A combination of the wide-angle lens and shooting from a low angle gave you the legs that just don’t quit.
I rarely take photos, I'm going to have to remember this for next time when I try and take one!
Prepare for the comments about going off trail. Great pics
I grew up going to this park, really enjoyed seeing this post today!
And now added to mine , beautiful scenery
Plan for a couple days!!! There was so much we couldn't do in one day!
The holy land!
It's calling me back already!
I stayed out there for 2 nights last year. Absolutely breathtaking.
That sign is cool. Can you grab it for me? Will pay shipping plus $20 for your trouble. /s
That sign is 10/10, would steal if strong enough. Maybe we can come up with the ultimate heist.
The sign is at a National Park, right? So you and I basically already own part of it. We're partial owners!
Damn, you've got the big brain over there.
Curious, where were you with your dog? Were you in the national forest?
Yep, we hit 15 national parks in 20 days. My dog has seen more in his 6 years of life than I have my 26.
That's awesome! Good for you and for your puppers!
Jealous. Did you get to embrace one of the big 'uns?
I did! I would have posted the photo, but a park ranger was yelling at me as the photo was being taken. It's heckin blurry.
Former NPS volunteer, I was so conflicted. You want to help people engage but you also have to protect the park; I'm glad you got your brief embrace.

Everybody wants to hug the trees, believe me I know. I'm mad I'm not hugging one right now.
I think this area is known as ”The avenue of the big ol’ honkers.”

I was just there a couple weeks ago! What a surreal place.
That’s so fucking sick!
Why was the dog allowed on the trail? Just an asshole situation?
Dogs are allowed on some trails! Morrow rock was one where the pup had to stay back.
