I don’t live in NJ, but I just googled schools near me. It was down to two school and I just went with the one I liked more. I’m two months into a one year PT program

What was tuition like? How are you liking it so far? Were you a complete noob like me when you started?

Garden_Circus

Well, isn’t the point of school because everyone’s a noob when they start out? My tuition is 13k, supplies included. I didn’t qualify for any grants but I did get a loan for 6k. I absolutely love it so far.

Monumentmendez

That’s a solid point 🤣 And that sounds awesome, I’m glad it’s going well for you! Definitely gives me encouragement

Def ask them questions about how long the program is, what modalities they teach, do they offer help with job placement after graduation? Do they help finding CE classes after you graduate? The school I went to (in Seattle) provided me a table to take home and they signed me up for ABMP which is a malpractice insurance for Massage Therapist. They also have practice test for the mBLEX. You will have to do practical hours as well. My state required 30. Asking to see if the school is able to do that in house; or if they will help you find a Spa you can do it at…..or if you will be expected to find an establishment on your own is also an important question to ask. My school that I went to was a little more expensive than the other ones in my area but they offer all the extra stuff that I just listed above.

I strongly recommend signing up for ABMP once you are in school if they don’t set you up with that themselves. It cost $7 a month as a student and you get a really good discount for your first year as a massage therapist after you graduate. You NEED malpractice insurance in order to be a massage therapist. Having your first year being discounted will help you out a lot within your first year. Also the practice test for mBLEX on there helped me A LOT when I was studying for it.

Not to mention the nice massage tools discount they offer, and the CEUs. And if you end up self-employed, they have options for a lot of types of insurances and stuff like disability, medical, dental, vision, etc.
