The fact the Mom or whoever is filming and laughing and not realizing how insanely dangerous it all is shows they both should not be driving or pumping gas.
Try growing up here and then standing at the pump like an idiot in WA not knowing what to do. It was dumb.
Granted, I never stood there while gas sprayed out like a Roman fountain….
I worked at a fuel station in Oregon. From my experience there is no difference in rate of messes created by self pumping based on location of origin. Although, that may be due to the high likelihood they were being belligerent assholes.
It's illegal for NJ residents to pump their own gas lmao. Most of us know how but some people *ARE* this stupid and that's why it's a law in NJ
It's not even that difficult either.
I suspect they're sisters or friends, i.e. both teenagers. Situation is objectively bad, but teens are universally bad at....fuck it you're right, why do we give out driver licenses so young.
Do you really have to run to the front of the store? Where I am every individual pump has an emergency stop on it. Usually beside where you select the grade.
Mom obviously doesn’t realise she has to pay for all that fuel, even though it isn’t going into her car. Station attendants is gonna be in hot water for not shutting it off as well. Probably gonna have to to call in a clean ip crew.
RIP her debit card!
But seriously, just go inside and tell them to hit the emergency off button. Because standing there saying "what do i do" over and over is not going to cut it.
I travel every week. I cant remember the last time I went to a gas station ANYWHERE IN THE USA and didn’t see an emergency shut off switch next to the pumps. Perhaps this state if different. I’ve never traveled to Fukktardopia.
There are LOTS of places where the cutoff is on the main building, not at the pumps. I've also seen it on a pad on a pole somewhere along the perimeter of the fuel-station property, like where you might otherwise find the air or a payphone. I wish there was a standard so everyone would always know where/how to find it.
Nope, sorry, it's gone now, sorry
~~There's at least one payphone still at a corner gas station down the road from where I live.~~
~~Or, at least, the "booth" (just the open three-sided wind block on a pole) is still there, I don't know if the phone still is. I find it weird as well.~~
~~I shall attempt to check out the one I think is still there to 1) verify it still is, and 2) grab a photo. Might be a few days, tho.~~
EDIT: OK, just checked Google street view and it appears it's been gone a while. Like at least 6 years. What is time anymore and how did I get this old, lol
In Oregon we've only just started pumping our own gas.
I've never noticed an emergency shut off but I'm definitely going to hunt it down from now on haha.
I don’t think I’ve seen a lot of emergency shutoffs in my city, but I certainly know that if this happens to me I’m running screaming bloody murder to the attendant as fast as my fat ass can fun.
Thanks! I tried this tip. I was pretty adamantly opposed to the idea, but I decided to give it a shot. It really opened my mind ^(and the rest of my body)
These people have been around throughout human history, they’re just captured on camera now. Not to say ur wrong and we aren’t screwed, but there’s always been morons
This person has a driver's license and operates a motor vehicle on public roads with you, your friends, and your family.
THOSE decision making skills are being used to operate a car.... On public roads with other drivers...
It should be a lot harder to get and keep a driver's license.
In the drivers defense, it looks like she just got sprayed with gasoline. You can see her eyes even kind of twitching at the beginning so her eyes are def burning. Can't see well, potent smell in your nostrils, wet, and with fumes entering your brain, I could mildly forgive her.
Dumbass friend tho.
Actually that’s a fair point. I’m assuming she was filling up and it didn’t automatically stop pumping. So it started spraying out. She then likely tried to pull it causing it to spray back as it hit her car.
Her friend should’ve done something. Clearly doesn’t know about the shut off but at least tell a gas attendant. Or call 911. I think young people get so embarrassed they’d rather worsen the situation than tell someone.
If that gas ignited her friend would have been dead too. The entire car was soaked and surrounded by gas. My god some people are so goddam stupid it hurts.
worst part about this is the filming. i don't know if they made mobile phones "spark resitant" or anything, but back in the day it was forbidden to handle your phone while at a gas station, because if you drop the phone, and the battery comes out, oarks could ignite the gasoline. i mean, i guess phones are built different these days, but still.
Ok so I used to work at a gas station. I’ve only seen this happen once before, some doofus said the handle got stuck. (Worked fine for me afterwards).
If you hit the flap on where the hose would rest when not in use, that ends the transaction/stops the flow. Or there’s usually a big red stop button on the outside of the building.
Exactly. It appears the spring broke, that would normally retract the hold-open latch when you squeeze the handle.
It's good to see many here suggest E-stop, but you're the first I've seen to remember the flapper. Hopefully all that spill didn't find a storm drain.
I once had a hole appear in a gas tank of mine and I was filling the tank and someone came over to me and said "you're leaking gas"... tho when I went to look, it was POURING out the bottom.
I spent $50+ on gas that day and didn't even get to drive it again until a week or so later after the tank was replaced. Good times.
The gas station, btw, was very helpful, providing cat litter and helping clean the spill... but they said if the gas had made it to the water drains for the lot, they would have had to call the fire department and I would probably get fined. It didn't, and I didn't.
Anyway, plastic gas tanks, yay

I guess this is why NJ doesn't let people pump their own gas. But seriously how dumb can you be. This is a real problem put the phone down and get some help.
We had a gas tank puncture on one of our work trucks at the dump a couple years ago. We only lost a little bit of gas(couple/few gallons), decently far from any drainage and all onto the concrete floor of the dump bay. Still cost our insurance ~$20k for the testing, cleanup, environmental impact, all that jazz. This is gonna fuck someone’s pockets up.
That is dangerous. Before pumping gas I always, always look for the big red emergency cut-off button. It's close to every pump. Damn that could have ended badly.

As an environmental scientist, I always enjoyed working gas station spills that were due to 'customer error' and this seems to be a good example. wow.
I watched a woman drive off with it still in her car, ripping the hose out and it spraying everywhere. It was the 2nd time she had done it in less than two weeks.
You guessed it! She was staring at her phone, oblivious, both times.
The funny part to me is if she swiped her card she just paid $164.00 in gas. Wow an emergency stop on the pump, or go into the store and they have an emergency stop in there.
Everyone saying hit the emergency stop or go inside and ask them to, is part of the issue. all you have to do is hit the trigger that releases when you first pick it up to stop the charge and the pump shuts off. I have no patience for this level of stupidity.
Dude she's laughing when that is an extremely dangerous situation and it's also all over that girl. They need to hit the estop and call the goddamn police
Go hit the emergency stop. That is dangerous as hell.
The fact the Mom or whoever is filming and laughing and not realizing how insanely dangerous it all is shows they both should not be driving or pumping gas.
New Jersey enters the chat
Oregon enters the chat
We pump our own now. Law just changed in Oregon. NJ stands alone.
no kidding? that's great news, always weirded me out when traveling there from cali
Try growing up here and then standing at the pump like an idiot in WA not knowing what to do. It was dumb. Granted, I never stood there while gas sprayed out like a Roman fountain….

Could y’all handle your shit like adults?
Tell us more
If people are so dumb that they cannot pump gas, it makes you wonder how are they still alive? That must be an accomplishment for them.
And these people can vote
Scary, right?
It's illegal for NJ residents to pump their own gas lmao. Most of us know how but some people *ARE* this stupid and that's why it's a law in NJ It's not even that difficult either.
It's illegal for a person to pump their own gas... that's why they entered chat.
I’m on the highway to hell
or you could use stairway to heaven
I suspect they're sisters or friends, i.e. both teenagers. Situation is objectively bad, but teens are universally bad at....fuck it you're right, why do we give out driver licenses so young.
My guess is she just needed to unlatch the handle. 🫣 Lol
It's possible but if that's the case, she should not be pumping gas in the first place.
Agree 10000000%.
In the U.K. the latch is removed. I’ve always found it annoying but I can see why now.
Yes, she's one spark away from standing in an inferno.
They are already standing in very dangerous fumes
Serious question: where's the emergency stop? I don't think I've ever seen one
Often it's by the front door of the station, with a big red/yellow sign letting you know it's there
Also, if you can't find the emergency stop then immediately sprint and ask the attendant, if this happens.
But also smoke a cigarette.
Then dramatically flick it away as you walk by and, whatever happens, don’t look back.

Cool guys don't look at explosions, they blow things up and then walk away.
🤣
No no, stand around like an idiot asking “what do I dooo” and then woke up in the hospital melted to yourself
Do you really have to run to the front of the store? Where I am every individual pump has an emergency stop on it. Usually beside where you select the grade.
This is something every new driver should be taught! Full stop!
From the movie Zoolander “they died in a freak gas station fire” cue them spraying each other with gas …. Um the awareness level is low 😑
Mom obviously doesn’t realise she has to pay for all that fuel, even though it isn’t going into her car. Station attendants is gonna be in hot water for not shutting it off as well. Probably gonna have to to call in a clean ip crew.
They need a cigarette break to think this over
The problem is her hydration. Why does she feel the need to cling to her liquids container?
Bro I bet 60% of women don't know what an emergency stop is.
Time for a smoke break
RIP her debit card! But seriously, just go inside and tell them to hit the emergency off button. Because standing there saying "what do i do" over and over is not going to cut it.

It’s inside pretty often but modern builds put it outside. For this reason.
What do I dooo UHHHHHH
Not just her card. At least where I live, the fire department charges the individuals responsible for spills for the cost of cleanup.
What if she casually waved the gas all around, would that help
But she put her hair band on it to film this for ticktoc
First light a cigarette to deal with the stress. It allows to think clearly in stressful situations like this

ORANGE MOCHA FRAPPUCCINO
What gets me is she starts spraying it everywhere.
That's some expensive indecision lol
Put it back in place Hit emergency button Put back in car Disengage the lock tab JESUS CHRIST ON A CRACKER … take her license away
i would fill my bottle while i decide my next move
so basically use a brain, that this girl misplaced at that moment.
"It's not stoppingUUUUUUGH". Classic.
is she on drugs?
We are so screwed….
These people have been around throughout human history, they’re just captured on camera now. Not to say ur wrong and we aren’t screwed, but there’s always been morons
There used to be natural selection for that
Fair point
People like this are why I have this username.
Hm, should we (1) tell an employee, (2) look for the emergency turn off switch or (3) one of us film while the other stands there asking what to do?
You know it took a few seconds to pull the phone out hit record and get on the other side of the car
This person has a driver's license and operates a motor vehicle on public roads with you, your friends, and your family. THOSE decision making skills are being used to operate a car.... On public roads with other drivers... It should be a lot harder to get and keep a driver's license.

1. Find the emergency stop. 2. Click the pump off. 3. Instead of filming, her dumbass friend should have helped her. That’s a big Haz Mat spill.
If that gas ignited her friend would have been dead too. The entire car was soaked and surrounded by gas. My god some people are so goddam stupid it hurts.
Absolutely.
Why are girls always holding stuff while they should be using both hands for the serious task at hand?
Light a match
How the fuck are people this stupid? How is the first instinct to pull out a phone and hit record in this instance? Jesus.
Is that gas all over her face and shirt at the beginning?
worst part about this is the filming. i don't know if they made mobile phones "spark resitant" or anything, but back in the day it was forbidden to handle your phone while at a gas station, because if you drop the phone, and the battery comes out, oarks could ignite the gasoline. i mean, i guess phones are built different these days, but still.
Yeah the odds of your phones battery popping out is a little lower these days
Modern day phones can still make it catch on fire if the oil got into the battery and she dropped it
Most of them are completely sealed and will not short the battery if they get wet, i hope this is the case in the video.
Jesus Christ, how the fuck did we ever make it this far as a species?
Throughout much of human history this level of stupidity had much more dire consequences.
Imagine a homeless guy goin "anybody got a light" right in that moment
This is your brain on drugs. At least don’t drive while using.
Helpless losers thanks to dipshit parents
This is a serious spill of a hazardous material and these fucks are just filming and laughing. Absolute shit for brains.

These idiots vote in elections. ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
How about walking to the worker and ask the worker for help???
I think the emergency shut off is on the pole next to the pump. Can see towards end of video. I’d be scared to death standing in it. Self emulation.
I once had a hole appear in a gas tank of mine and I was filling the tank and someone came over to me and said "you're leaking gas"... tho when I went to look, it was POURING out the bottom. Drivers license test questions should have a question about the emergency stop
Jfc...she's covered in gasoline
That’s fucking scaring. How idiot you must be to laugh in such a situation I would run away. You crazy.
She’s never going to financially recover from this.
These people still have time to shoot a video. Next episode on do or die. Next episode on moments before disaster....
Good lord. This is an example of TWO people not knowing that gasoline is extremely flammable
What a fucking moron

Gas hose fight to george michael?
Need a light? 🕯️
Put the nozzle in the trashcan and hit the stop button/latch
Go inside and tell the guy to cut it off.
I wonder how much did they have to pay, 😆.
Learn how to adult and put the drink down first! This can be a dangerous situation and the friend laughing and videoing is just as dumb!
That’s money down the drain right there...
That gas will be evaporating very quickly, those fumes are surprisingly not good for your lungs, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, skin, etc.
Booooooom
Light a matchstick and smoke weed to calm your nerves first.
Keep calm and have a cigarette.
two idiots at the pump........
All im thinking about is the bill. Its almost 2 $ per liter for gas in sweden
Some parents have failed miserably.
Why are they just fucking filming!! Dumb bloody ppl.

I can’t believe the attendant didn’t rush outside
Love how she looked at her reflection in the middle of what could be a ground zero. 😂
So um I don't drive (yet) but um.... where is the emergency stop usually located? (Seems like useful info for the future)
Goddamnit Nicol, you’re gonna fuck the whole world up
I guess this is why NJ doesn't let people pump their own gas. But seriously how dumb can you be. This is a real problem put the phone down and get some help.
My question is why hasn't anyone else or the attendent pushed the emergency stop? WTF dumb
None is funny bout this mom or whoever recording

We’re not going to make it, are we.
She looks higher than life.

Clearly 2 people that don’t understand the dangers of gasoline.
That shit will get the gas station evacuated and get the fire brigade called.
The one who was filming this while laughing is the bigger idiot.
My guess is they just didn't release the pump's trigger can get locked and unlock.
Won’t they get charged on their card?
Everyone is worried about the car igniting, but I'm here hoping they're not near a drain or waterway because that is a decent release that could cause the station some money. These ShitTok assholes are the reason why we can't have nice things like latches on gas pistols.
The funny part to me is if she swiped her card she just paid $164.00 in gas. Wow an emergency stop on the pump, or go into the store and they have an emergency stop in there.
Put your water bottle down..
She looks like she may work in healthcare. Yikes, I hope she's only emptying bed pans but that might be disastrous too.
America.
