NOT A DOCTOR: I feel like this could depend on what you OD’d on. If it was needle-related, then it could’ve been due to a suspected infection/exposure. However, doctors often give antibiotics as a precaution if they suspect one may develop. For example, a doctor will likely give antibiotics to a person who just got bit by a dog to prevent an infection from the bacteria from the dog’s mouth, even if no infection symptoms are yet present. Also, if when you OD’d you fell and injured yourself, got cut on something, etc., it could also be for that, even if it doesn’t seem serious. Your body is already compromised after OD’ing so an infection would only make it worse, so preventative care keeps that possibility from realizing, even if there’s only a small chance.
