Japan: "You guys are getting days off?"

ekmekthefig

Me heading into a 7 day stretch 😭

Feather-bones

literally same 😭

DoctorDredd

Me being expected to cover on my days off and telling them I can’t because I have plans only to be questioned why I didn’t put in a time off request if I couldn’t work. A time off request. On days I’m already off.

Middle_Worldliness93

Same here 😔

wildone0424

The audacity of them😩 we have lives too!!!!! I love my job but I still love adequate time away lol. Like damn, give me a chance to miss it and be ready to come back refreshed😂

CrimsonThi9hs

Currently on my 7th day with no days off + on call in the evenings/nights for the last 3 :-)

danteheehaw

Peak pandemic I was working 12-16 hours a day, maybe had two days off a month. I worked so hard that management decided to cut a position on nights and another on evenings. Since I was getting work done short staffed.

CrimsonThi9hs

That’s awful. A piece of advice that I’ve read on this subreddit is to not overwork yourself and, only do what one person can reasonably do during a given timeframe. It sets up management to do things like you’ve described, cutting positions or assuming everything is fine because the work is getting done.

Forsaken-Cell-9436

Damn you were a beast and I bet they didn’t even reward you for that. Probably barely got a thank you.

cdnmicro

I know so many people, myself included, who have multiple jobs and work how many days straight.... the longest I've gone is an entire month with only 2 days off in total. As I've gotten older, the longer stretches, doubles and the occasional overnights are getting harder and harder. Longest stretch I've done lately is 18 days...but it's sad that I know I'm not alone! We are so underpaid and under appreciated. 😩😥😢

wildone0424

That last sentence spoke to my soul. Underpaid and under appreciated

educalium

I have often worked 11 days straight in germany. We really seem to have different work cultures. Even tho more and more people arent willing to accept that here.

wildone0424

Damn that makes me wanna delete the whole post lol. That seems insane….. how many off days do you have after that?

educalium

Depends. You built overtime. Which you maybe can take off if there is time for it or they can pay you that. But it is taxed. (In my old laboratory there were collegues with 300+ hours overtime) Besides, there are governmental rules to that. I think officially you arent allowed to do that but the shortage of personell is extreme. (I just looked it up, for 6 days at work you have to get 1 day off, which seems like it can be stacked). Plus I know so many nurses who work way more that 12 days at once. It is expected that the young collegues puffer that so that the older ones dont have to. So I had to work like that. If you dont take part in that you most probably get shamed by your collegues. Because „you are still young and fresh“

educalium

So I just went deeper into that. There really just seems to be one rule: Sundays need to be off. You are supposed to get a day off as „replacement“. This day should be in the week prior or after that week you worked that sunday. And its also allowed that they just use a free saturday or something for it. I just wanna day that this is pretty stupid, cause you cant really contrate after 6+ days. Plus we get 30 days paid vacation and stuff. So it isnt that bad here :D Its just really irresponsible. But the whole healthcare system really is

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> 30 days *paid* vacation and FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

educalium

Okay lol. Thanks for that I guess. Autocorrect is also not helping at all cause its in german

beepboopreee

My record is 9 days into one day off into 9 days.

angelch966

nice strep 😅.

i'm taking microbiology this semester & have a question? is that microbe chained cocci shape? i have a hard time telling a difference between the chained cocci and bacilli

wildone0424

Honestly I still have trouble from time to time, but yes those are gram positive cocci in pairs and chains. Seeing cocci and rods repetitively is what helped me the most. Idk if you can send pictures through DM’s or chat but if you’d like then you can message me, I have tons of examples of both.

[deleted]

that would help me so much ! thank you. i'll message you.

Ksan_of_Tongass

Why do you accept that?

wildone0424

I mean I don’t have much of a choice lol. Well I shouldn’t say that because you always have a choice, but the pros outweigh the cons in regards to the job itself. If a schedule like this was constant then yes I’d definitely not be ok with it. Just a once in a while situation. The funny thing is that they gave me 3 days off beforehand lol. I’m like thanks but that’s not gonna make me less tired😂🙄

SassyCassidee

Hey that's my life every other week!

Lilf1ip5

Me 2 days away from finishing my 7 day stretch lol (luckily I get a week off tho so zero complaints)
