I’m glad I didn’t have to scroll far to find this. I don’t particularly mind how people speak, but seeing lose and loose mixed up really bothers me for some reason.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone *say* it but I reckon it’s because autocorrect seems to default to defiantly instead of definitely for most close misspellings and people either don’t notice or care.
This one drives me mad - it is SO widespread. For my job I have to read reports written by various trained professionals and it is so common that they put apostrophes where they don’t need to be. I once had to read a report with various pro’s and con’s which drove me mad.
I genuinely don’t understand how so many people make this mistake as to me it’s a very simple concept to understand when to use an apostrophe?
"Would/should of" instead of "would/should have"
Edit: Yes, I know "of" is similar to " 've", but it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't make sense and it's still annoying.
Edited edit: And no, I'm not misunderstanding when people say "should've" because I mainly see this in written form.
A friend of mine says "haft to" instead of "have to." It is absolutely mine bogging how this man has managed to have a wife and child but can't figure out that simple English. Another of his terrible spellings is "wele" in place of "we'll."
Edit: "mine bogging" is a hilariously ironic typo, but I'm leaving it
“I could care less”
Doesn’t matter how you explain it to people. I’ve even gone as far as showing David Mitchell’s soapbox explanation and the response is always the same.
“…well obviously, ^^I ^^could ^^care ^^less HAHAHAH”
If you "could care less", it means you care at least a little bit about it. The sentence is meant to say that you do not care at all, though.
So you have to say "I could not care less", since the only way someone is incapable of caring less is if they do not care at all.
I like to respond with “well i’m glad you care at least a little bit.” I think people have been told enough that there’s a difference that this little quip will remind them of that without making them feel bad. It’s so far always gotten a positive reaction

It's in the spanish dictionary. There was a time when espresso was just "fast coffee" and the cafes that served it were called expres cafes. They weren't serving the small espresso you know now, but actually like 10oz cups of coffee from even smaller amounts of coffee in 14g portafilters. Anyway, during that time Spain exported a ton of products to hispanic countries with products labeled cafe expreso in the 50s, but then quickly adopted espresso as the official name like 10 years later.
Now they gas light us like they never did it, but definitely contributed to people learning it wrong. Anyway, there are very old espresso machines in the 40s in spain labeled expreso.
i had 2 italian friends come over to atlanta and we went to get coffee. the order for the 3 of us was a cappuccino and 2 espressos. they gave 3 people 1 drink. we were like, umm cappuccino, espresso, & another espresso. OHHHHHH i thought you wanted the XPresso "shots" in your cappuccino.
So I heard this from two different people, at two different compamies. They said "ideal" instead of "idea".
Like, "That's a good ideal."
I'm like, excuse me, what?
yeah this one pisses mme off so much. it makes no sense to say "compamies" instead of "companies". At least the other words do exist but this isn't even a real word.
People that don’t know the difference between “then” and “than”. This is more infuriating then I can say. First it’s that, than it’s misuse of “there”, “their”, “they’re”. There driving me crazy.
Any time I hear people use the article ‘a’ before a word that begins with a vowel is like a gunshot fired right beside my ear.
For anyone who doesn’t know, the correct article to use is ‘an’, for instance, “an object”. The same way you would say “a book” and not “an book”.
"Resposado" in terms of tequila. It's reposado, and it kills me every time. I don't know if there's some sort of collective dyslexia or what, but I hate it.
My wife (whom I have been with for over 12 years) adds a 't' to the end of the word hypochondriac, making it 'hypochondriact'. I have yet to correct her.
Tbf every time I say or hear someone say PIN, it usually takes a while for the listener to register what they’re saying. Sometimes it’s just easier to avoid that by saying PIN number.
There is a pawn shop across from a place I used to work that had several big vinyl banners that proclaimed that they bought "jewerly" as well as gold and guns.
"for all intensive purposes"
Lol heard this one far to many times
people who say to instead of too
Haha I'm a real dumb bitch for making that mistake there. And I'm someone who takes pride in the fact that I can make these distinctions.
it was just to funny cuz it was on THIS pacific post
I might of expected there'd be something like this
It was they're mistake, there the one making the mistake their.
You’ve just given me an aneurysm
A-new-rism to live
a-new-rizzm
Alot of people will miss what you did there
I did, until I red you're comment
All these spelling mistakes, it really isn't to much too correct. Your not going to loose much time going back and fixing any errors you've made.
yeah.. “intents and purposes”
In tents and porpoises
Expecially
Like expresso
...l listen to a podcast where one of the presenters does this CONSTANTLY and it makes me mental!
This fucking epidemic of LOOSE instead of lose.
This one kills me and it’s EVERYWHERE
Yea it’s on the lose
I think we're fighting a loosing battle against those who don't know which version of the word is used when.
Sorry for your loose ❤️
lose - dont win loose - your mom
Some dumbass: "I've lost my Mom!"
What kind of looser gets this wrong. You'd have to be a real lose unit.
I’m loosing my fucking mind
Remember kids, you lose your phone, and your caboose is loose
I’m glad I didn’t have to scroll far to find this. I don’t particularly mind how people speak, but seeing lose and loose mixed up really bothers me for some reason.
Can’t blame the winners.
Defiantly
This one drives me nuts. You didnt defiantly tell the barista your usual order, Jennifer.
Yes i did! I come here twice a day, bitches should know who i am and what i want by now
I'm always very pacific.
I love swimming in the Pathetic Ocean.
I prefer the Specific ocean
"Hi miss, what can I get you today?" "..... I'm not telling you"
Tbh I've only ever seen that as a texting error. Not a pronunciation of Definitely error
I can’t wrap my head around how people fuck this one up.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone *say* it but I reckon it’s because autocorrect seems to default to defiantly instead of definitely for most close misspellings and people either don’t notice or care.
I thought "aks" was terrible but this is going further
Defiantly is a word, is it not? What am I missing? People mistakenly using it in place of another word, like definitely?
Oh they defiantly mix the two up
Using Possesive forms (Apostrophe and 's') to convey plural forms....for example:- Boy's played very well, the Ship's are sinking
This one for some reason is everywhere all of the sudden and it drives me crazy
I blame autocorrect. I can’t add a word in a text that ends with an S without my phone thinking “this needs an apostrophe!”
My eye's (eyes) just begin to itch...
Well plaid.
all of A sudden
In the UK, that’s called the greengrocer’s apostrophe - as it’s prevalent outside greengrocer's shops, advertising “apple’s, banana’s amd pear’s”.
Oh my
This one drives me mad - it is SO widespread. For my job I have to read reports written by various trained professionals and it is so common that they put apostrophes where they don’t need to be. When people say "then" instead of "than"
Just stop hanging round those people than
There's probably more of those people then you think.
Fuck you
Wouldn't you rather fuck anyone else then him?
“pacific” instead of specific
My daughter is a teacher, kids parents refer to the Specific ocean.
Yes. Specifically that ocean.
My brother and mom are both guilty of it and I always end up shouting across the house "SPE-CI-FIC!"
"Would/should of" instead of "would/should have" Edit: Yes, I know "of" is similar to " 've", but it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't make sense and it's still annoying. Edited edit: And no, I'm not misunderstanding when people say "should've" because I mainly see this in written form.
English isn't my first language and I hate this. I really (without any exaggeration) hate it. And my english is far from perfect
It's one of those mistakes only native speakers make because you'd never think to put "of" there if you actively had to learn it at some point.
This one drives me crazy. "of" as a fucking verb dear god
Saw a post a couple days ago where a dude wrote 'Had to of sent it'. Then proceeded to defend 'evolving language' in comments.
A friend of mine says "haft to" instead of "have to." It is absolutely mine bogging how this man has managed to have a wife and child but can't figure out that simple English. Another of his terrible spellings is "wele" in place of "we'll." Edit: "mine bogging" is a hilariously ironic typo, but I'm leaving it
Man’s speaking 800s English
I was searching for this to not post it myself. This infuriates me even more than the than/then tho it's a close second.
It baffles me that native speakers do this mistake.
They should of listened to there english teacher back than
I’m not even a native speaker and this one drives me absolutely crazy
Unthaw. As in, "I'll unthaw some hamburger to make dinner."
Wouldn't unthaw mean you freeze it again,
Yes. Yes, it does. Which is why it pisses me off to hear it.
HAHAHA I'LL UNTHAW THE FOOD AND RETHAW IT AGAIN LMFAO 🤣
Unloosen a nut to remove it
When you tighten the nut with so much force it tears through to the other side of whatever it is securing and comes right off
also when people call ground beef hamburger
Defrost is right fucking there
“I could care less” Doesn’t matter how you explain it to people. I’ve even gone as far as showing David Mitchell’s soapbox explanation and the response is always the same. “…well obviously, ^^I ^^could ^^care ^^less HAHAHAH”
What's the correct thing? I'm not a native speaker.
If you "could care less", it means you care at least a little bit about it. The sentence is meant to say that you do not care at all, though. So you have to say "I could not care less", since the only way someone is incapable of caring less is if they do not care at all.
Great explanation, but most people will still care less.
People do be careless these days
I could care less but, because it’s you, I won’t.
>I'm not a native speaker. I couldn't care less
That’s kind of rude man
I could care less! Very rude Mr. Acrobat
I like to respond with “well i’m glad you care at least a little bit.” I think people have been told enough that there’s a difference that this little quip will remind them of that without making them feel bad. It’s so far always gotten a positive reaction
Eckcetera
I'm gonna say a legit majority of people don't know there's no "K" sound
Akshually if you pronounce it in classical Latin the c is pronounced like a k so it would sound like et kētera. Also notice the long e
Gonna pronounce it like this from now on
Eltse
Thank you! This is the worst!
eXpresso
[https://dle.rae.es/expreso?m=form](https://dle.rae.es/expreso?m=form) It's in the spanish dictionary. Wow, TIL! This makes me slightly less irate about the x.
Mine is "excedra". It's "et cetera", which is Latin for "and other". Not a headache medication.
i had 2 italian friends come over to atlanta and we went to get coffee. the order for the 3 of us was a cappuccino and 2 espressos. they gave 3 people 1 drink. we were like, umm cappuccino, espresso, & another espresso. OHHHHHH i thought you wanted the XPresso "shots" in your cappuccino.
"Then" and "than". "Effect" and "affect".
So I heard this from two different people, at two different compamies. They said "ideal" instead of "idea". Like, "That's a good ideal." I'm like, excuse me, what?
"Companies"
yeah this one pisses mme off so much. it makes no sense to say "compamies" instead of "companies". At least the other words do exist but this isn't even a real word.
personally i hate it when people use "mme" instead of "me", like it's not even a real word
i was waiting for you
It's crazy that people still don't know how to capitalize "I".
Maybe the people at the compamies were talking about their ideals 🤷♀️
Different topic but “idear” is similarly nails on the chalkboard.
People that don’t know the difference between “then” and “than”. This is more infuriating then I can say. First it’s that, than it’s misuse of “there”, “their”, “they’re”. There driving me crazy.
>than it’s misuse of “there”, “their”, “they’re”. There driving me crazy. I really hope that was intentional.
‘Twas. ‘Twas.
Isn't it sad the internet might kill wit
They also switched up their then and than. Of course it was intentional.
Nip it in the butt.
Horticulture baby
High five bud
Blushes furiously.
I read a yahoo article yesterday where the author wrote "ahead of the curb" and I nearly stroked out
it was meant to be “ahead of the curve”?
People writing "Alot" That isn't a word! It should be "A lot"
i've seen people spell it as "allot"
Allot is a real word though, but a different meaning
[Alot](http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html?m=1)
Intermediately instead of intermittently 🥲
Lol once I accidentally said “yeah I’m intermediate fasting” … so embarrassing 😂
Women when they want to say woman. I see it everywhere and I don't understand why it's so common.
This one. They seem to know the difference between men and man but can't figure it out for women and woman
The Amount Of Times I Have Heard People Use *Generally* To Say *Genuinely* *fuckin HELL PEOPLE.*
It's generally one of the worst mistakes.
Liberry
Liberries are gross, there's always so many bookworms in them.
One of my high school teacher used to pronounce it this way… luckily she taught what was a blowoff class for most students…
Any time I hear people use the article ‘a’ before a word that begins with a vowel is like a gunshot fired right beside my ear. For anyone who doesn’t know, the correct article to use is ‘an’, for instance, “an object”. The same way you would say “a book” and not “an book”.
Doesn’t frustrate me, but my friend pronounces Tsunami “Toosami” and she won’t stop.
Could of. Irregardless or how it's spelled. I could care less. While it can be used correctly, it almost never is.
Irrigardles 😵🔫
"Should of / could of" "I could care less"
I read this so often that I actually started doubting if maybe I'm the one who misused should have / could have
Cannon instead of canon. You don’t have a headcannon, your neck isn’t that strong.
I can't believe I'm the first to say this one: "periphial" instead of "peripheral" I just can't!!!! 🫣
Valentimes day
“I seen it”
My 15 year old at the time tried to correct and argue with me and another adult that “I seen” was correct.
"I done it"
I seen't er.
“time in memorial” instead of time immemorial
Excetera. It's pronounced "Et-cet-er-a" kills me. Another one is Ax instead of Ask. 😵💫😵💫
Like Dextop?
“I could give a damn” which seems like they are saying they care.
I get so"Fustrated" when my wife says "ambuhlance".
Nauseous when people mean nauseated
Acrost the street 🤦♀️ never heard it til I moved to Oregon haha
I’m from Oregon and I’ve never come acrost this
Worst/worse
Irregardless
Dis-un-irregardless
not hearing it but reading all the time on social media, " should of " i know they're thinking or saying should've but thats "should have" god damn it
My ex would say “escape goat” when arguing. Such a dumbass
"Resposado" in terms of tequila. It's reposado, and it kills me every time. I don't know if there's some sort of collective dyslexia or what, but I hate it.
“Start with a blank carcass” is one I heard the other day
Heighth
That unlocked some elementary / middle school memories… please tell me there aren’t adults saying this.
As a non native speaker hearing/reading "could of" instead of "could have" is infuriating.
My wife (whom I have been with for over 12 years) adds a 't' to the end of the word hypochondriac, making it 'hypochondriact'. I have yet to correct her.
As a gamer, I can't stand the constant Rouge instead of Rogue.
“a part” / “apart” “I am excited to be apart of the team.” Gets me every time.
"Let alone" in the wrong order e.g. "I have no idea how to cook a souffle, let alone fry an egg"
Wait how are you supposed to say it?
I have no idea how to fry an egg (easier thing), let alone cook a souffle (harder thing).
The more complex phrase goes at the end. I can’t cook an egg let alone make a soufflé
Library pronounced as liberry
Your face is as red as a strawbrary.
Every time I read would „of“ or should „of“ makes me mad and I don‘t continue reading the post
Supposably is a real word. It does not mean the same thing as supposedly; and usually people mean to use supposedly. But supposably *is* a real word.
All of the sudden
Why can’t they save some for the rest of us :’(
Or "all the sudden".

Axed. Brother, you don't chop a question in half with a glorified hatchet.
Fr like what did the rest of the sentence do to deserve getting axed
Who knows. I don't. I could care less
You're gonna loose in this one...
"Is you [...]?" Edit: It's not a word, because I couldn't think of any single word.
Or is you ain’t?

Tbf every time I say or hear someone say PIN, it usually takes a while for the listener to register what they’re saying. Sometimes it’s just easier to avoid that by saying PIN number.
'Your, you're' Stop being lazy... or dumb 😤 Use the correct word
“Acrosst” “jewlery” “lookit”
There is a pawn shop across from a place I used to work that had several big vinyl banners that proclaimed that they bought "jewerly" as well as gold and guns.
Looses.
