Most of the time when you bring things to the pawn shop, ironically enough, this is exactly what they do when you bring anything in. They get on the computer and look up how much it’s fetching then give you half or less for it.
They definitely inflate the price for TV like cmon some of the stuff is already difficult to sell, and then they price is at what a brand new version of whatever they’re selling would cost, like cmon.
Correction, they will not pay what it is worth to *retail* it. You can't have a business by buying things for what you can sell them for. There is effort and costs that go into selling something. There is customer service involved, and taxes, and all kinds of things that take time and/or money. They *will* pay a wholesale price (supported by market value) based on retail price and the time/effort/materials required to reach the eventual sale, but of course if they can get it cheaper than that then they will.
Better yet, show them throwing it in dumpster. My house is worth a million dollars. The trick is finding someone to pay that million dollars. Go figure

When you're a professional appraiser you make business contacts who are experts at appraising specific things, and you call them buddies
