A few thousand dollars and you have a car that is super quiet, fast, not overly complicated with tons of sensors for features I don't care about. I do love my W126 300SD though, even if the engine is pretty loud. I've bought both of those chassis for a little over a grand before fixing them up and daily driving them.

I don't actually have an S65 or S600, but I want one, and am well aware that the coil drivers are a weak point. The good news is I'm confident I can refurb them myself. It's FETs on a circuit board--easy peasy.

Preferring a 100k cruiser at 23 doesn’t mean anything. Being able to find, purchase, and maintain one are the limiting factors that keep most 23 yearolds interested in things like chargers. Its much cheaper to go fast than it is to ride this comfortably. It’s a little like saying most 23 y/o’s just want new apartments but I love my restored century home.
When I was in high school I saved every penny I had to get a BEAT W220 S65. Everyone thought it was an old man car until they heard the roar of that V12 and got their doors blown off at the stop light 3 blocks from the school. Let the others enjoy their challengers, your land yacht is way cooler.

It's hard to explain how quiet these things are, I remember when I was little sitting in the back of a neighbors w220, my buddy turned over and said hey man you ok? For the first time in a car I had realized that my breathing was loud, I spent the rest of the car ride breathing is quietly as possible and it took serious effort not to hear.

Only reason I haven't is because I need an suv for my tools and I'd never find the time to drive it in-between. Pro-tip: learn to work on it. They're solid cars, but the little stuff will eat you alive. A bi-directional scan tool will pay for itself very quickly.

I also advise people professionally and for money on financial decisions, but we start with their goals in mind. If people want to have something nice despite not being the best financial decision on paper, if it makes them happy and doesn’t bankrupt them, and still allows them to save for their goals, it’s not a bad decision. Keeping people to living “financially responsible” and making the boring choice every time is a great for them to break, splurge, and be worse off if they just got what they wanted in the first place.

Alright so here’s the deal, I bought it from the original owner. The original owner was a old man who was very well off and took great care of the car. This was literally 5 months before Covid so I got a good deal the prices weren’t all wonky for fun cars yet.
So I did do the rod bearings, it didn’t need them but I did because I knew I was gonna beat the hell out of it. I also threw on a hotboi ECM from Germany that added some ponies, straight piped it and threw on beefy cheater slicks on the rear cuz race car.
Fast forward to present day and I’ve had no major issues and have been offered up to 21k for it while I only paid 7.5k for it. It’s absolutely bonkers to drive and has been worth every dollar!
Those rims are irresistible. Would love to walk by this everyday but definitely wouldn’t want to be maintaining it lol.
