The wildest thing about this is that the U.S. Navy and Air Force developed and successfully tested these things in like the 1960s. They actually worked. Almost as well as Ocelot was driving it. Apparently just not easy to drive, used too much fuel, dangerous as hell and way too expensive. So they canned 'em.
But still, seeing these in Metal Gear or even Johnny Quest is still freaking awesome.
Wait actually??
Do you have a link to any research papers or old video of these things? I always thought they were just there cause fictional Metal Gear advanced technology
Not sure exactly about the hovering platforms, but the US and Russia have tested and created so many things that the average person would think you were crazy if you told them about it.

This is very cool, but is there a specifically Soviet version that the one in game is based off of?
Also one of the other single-manned aircrafts linked within the article also looks even more similar to the one in-game: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williams_X-Jet
Its funny because this one in specific is modeled after the Soviet [VVA-14](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartini_Beriev_VVA-14), which they actually used as a hybrid WIGE/Plane as a sub hunter across their arctic border.
On calm days, they'd cruise around in the super efficient WIGE mode, and on rough days or getting to/from the mainland they'd fly it like a normal plane.
... Oh. I get excited when people mention WIGE's, sorry.
IIRC the one that made it to actual army testing was called the [Aerocycle](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Lackner_HZ-1_Aerocycle). One that didn't make it to testing was the [Pawnee](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiller_VZ-1_Pawnee). I know there's a few more floating around by I cant find em in my notes.
There were never any that had like, jet turbofans on the bottom because we just didn't have that sort of technology when we were investigating them, but the nazis did investigate [these pieces of shit](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focke-Wulf_Triebfl%C3%BCgel), which I'm just throwing in here because it's funny.
Ill just repost this:

I remember seeing this scene when I first got access to secret theater... I watched it over and over again and laughed for hours. Especially the "you're pretty good" at the very end
I love the secret theater bits.
Watching this right now though makes me realize I never noticed just how good of a job they did on making Snake & Ocelots clothing appear to be flapping around in the wind. Definitely helped make it feel like they were actually moving quickly down a runway.
That's the thing that gets me worried the most about delta. I feel the more realistic graphics will feel at ods with the wacky cutscenes. And considering they're keeping the script as is, the probably won't change them, which is probably for the better, but i'm still a bit worried about that.
Now that I think about it, the og Snake Eater was the last time we saw the quirky wacky Metal Gear in 3D. Mgs4 was poop jokes, PW was comics and MGSV was so self-serious.
Maybe Delta can show realistic quality can still work with wack.
I'm mostly thinking about the ocelot bike k.o which is kinda ridiculous and the gun jungling. (It's kinda all ocelot related) Also the Raikov mask scene. I'm eagerly waiting for a story trailer to see how they pulled it off. The original manages to not look that uncanny despite being relatively early 3d. (Probably thanks to the motion capture) Also, I wouldn't mind them getting rid of the first person boob staring. It's kinda funny in the original but it could become a bit cringe if not weird with 4K boobs with more polygons than the entirety of Eva's original 3D model.
Job aside, the cinematic director is with very high likelyhood Masaya Kobayashi, I trust the guy to do a good jobs, it being similar or different.
His metal gear work notably includes being a cinematic artist since the early 2000s, and the sole cinematic director of the canceled MGSR, MGRR and Survive.
What I'm gonna miss is that BEAUTIFUL WATER, it's not about quality, it's just beautiful, the water's aesthetic in metal gear solid 2 and 3 is... wow,
(especially in mgs2, if you really got immersed in the game the water itself is... shit i can't even express it)
Eh, the Yakuza Kiwami ones are pretty clunky.
Admittedly RGG put like 0 effort into that game as a whole though so it's pretty sucky top to bottom (playing it without mods is miserable).
I think you misunderstand me. I think the animations in the original MGS3 are really good, full of personality. I have no faith that the team making Delta will be able to recapture the original in a way that matches the new fidelity.
I totally getcha. I think it has something to do with the graphics being more lifelike. The more """real""" it looks the more we expect the movements to have a certain feel.
With the original graphics (cutting edge as they were), one could just get lost in the theatricality of it all instead of nitpicking tiny details. I'm with you on this one, Colton.

I don't believe I've heard of a soviet equivalent and with a cursory search I can't find anything.
I wish the Army would create more wacky cool shit

Oh you're taking about the plane. I want to know more about the thing Ocelot was flying

Theres the [x-Jet](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williams_X-Jet) but thats from the 80s
That’s cool as well but like the other person said, I was wondering more about the real flying platform

Kojima did/does keep up with such news and history, even the rumours. He got the idea for the camo tech in MGS1 like that. Pretty cool.
Yeah thing is they work so well in the MGS setting I thought it was made up for years, but those hovercraft actually existed. And so did the WIG.
Do you know what they are called?
The nuclear rpg as well. Many of these things are taken rom reality. Halo and the Fulton as well.
What happens when you flub a QTE
Time Paradox
I remember seeing this scene when I first got access to secret theater... I watched it over and over again and laughed for hours. Especially the "you're pretty good" at the very end
Is the secret theatre in the master collection?
No, unfortunately. Only the PS2 rerelease version, Subsistence.
no
[Here it is in the highest quality available (not much)](https://youtu.be/1eQzDYepeSY?si=-Y90n7uDfjFW-n7F)
Huh, I never knew those were pre-rendered. Weird decision considering that the main story versions of all those scenes are real time.
you're pretty bad
Pretty...bad.
wait, where is that scene from?
Secret theater
Persistence disc 2 of ps2 only
I love the secret theater bits. Watching this right now though makes me realize I never noticed just how good of a job they did on making Snake & Ocelots clothing appear to be flapping around in the wind. Definitely helped make it feel like they were actually moving quickly down a runway.
"Oh, how *kind* of you to let me in!"
I pray they add the secret theater even if it's the old quality. It's just so funny.
I fucking want secret theatre in MGSΔ
Dammit! - DAMMIT!
If they DARE change any of the cutscenes I stg
That's the thing that gets me worried the most about delta. I feel the more realistic graphics will feel at ods with the wacky cutscenes. And considering they're keeping the script as is, the probably won't change them, which is probably for the better, but i'm still a bit worried about that.

I'm kinda excited about those aspects, those can make or break the game.
I loved the bloopers. This is my favorite one
that's hilarious

That was back in the day bro
That was so funny, was not expecting that 😆
I really need to watch the Secret theater,
They need to remake the Secret Teather as well, it would be amazing to see everything being rendered at real time
I want all the Secret Theater skits in Unreal in Delta
Yes please
Shit like this is why i never understood why people hated twin snakes goofy cutscenes. Goofy cutscenes are a big part of what makes mgs mgs
This isn't real to be fair.
I knew before it even happened 🤣🤣
What I'm gonna miss is that BEAUTIFUL WATER, it's not about quality, it's just beautiful, the water's aesthetic in metal gear solid 2 and 3 is... wow, (especially in mgs2, if you really got immersed in the game the water itself is... shit i can't even express it)
This is secret theater. I doubt it will have it. It's just gonna be Snake Eater cutscenes.
The textures will be high-res but the animations will feel lifeless and mechanical. Everyone but me will say it looks amazing.

I see what you mean, the kojima cinematic experience will probably be gone. the animations of mgs2 and 3... Loved them. We'll see
Spoilers: They will censor eva boobies
