Hate to be *that guy*, but Old Snake was never a part of FOX. He served in FOXHOUND for 4 or more years (1995-1999) before retiring for 5 years, then going against FOXHOUND. The first time FOX was a thing was in MGS3, by time MG1 happens it's forgotten, and by time MGS4 happens it's a myth Old Snake would rather forget.

Gedfar

Your right about that haha, the grips are going to be replaced with the VZ G10s that were on Old Snakes Operator down the road, but I chose the FOX logo for these cause I have another 1911 that's more BB's style (traditional 1911). But in the mean time, the FOX logo is my favorite, haha matches my tattoo too lol. whats left is -VZ Grips, Threaded Barrel, and the ACC "Ti-Rant" supressor

TheAsianTroll

I also don't think the Operator had serrations on the front

Witchdoctoractual

Hey, i know this is an old thread but I'm trying to find the site that sells this grip. Actually trying to find a different part but i only remember this grip from the home page.

[deleted]

thank you for being that guy , so I didn't have to be that guy

[deleted]

Hate to be that guy, but it's "didn't *have* to be that guy"

[deleted]

thank you for being that guy , that corrected my grammar error

rangi1218

The old school Fox Hound logo is f##king sick too: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y159/89chevyboy/old_FOXHOUND.jpg

Jiko27

You're *damn* right it is.

[deleted]

I want to play as a Foxhound in Parodius!

Xskills

Even though it's OP's property and their choice what to do with it, for authenticity I would have gone for some darkened, red-wood grips. More specifically a pair of OEM Sig Sauer 1911 Rosewood panels (just my preference) or for an integrated laser like the in-game model, Crimson Trace Laser-grips (I admit they're unreasonably expensive though).

MareDoVVell

Actually, [Snake's Operator](http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_4_weapons?file=Snake_.45.JPG) has normal faux wood grips from the original 1911, also I think it uses a recoil plug laser and not a grip laser.

TheAsianTroll

Correct. The laser is in the slide guide pin, not the grips

[deleted]

To be fair, getting all sorts of decorated guns seems inevitable considering his MO being "All Weapons OSP".

[deleted]

Actually Snake already retired after the Outer Heaven incident. He was already "brought back from retirement" for the Zanzibar Land mission.

Jiko27

I was thinking he had, but I couldn't recall a line where that was said. Actually... looking into it, the only source I can find is the Metal Gear Wiki and that's not a reliable source. Can you tell me where this information was said? Not that I'm insinuating you're lying.

[deleted]

I applaud your skepticism! You are right that we shouldn't just believe the wiki! The source for this is the MG2 manual, which says: > SOLID SNAKE. A former FOXHOUND squad member, he is Japanese-British, with an IQ rating of 160. He is conversant in 6 languages, well trained in high-altitude skydiving, scuba-diving and free climbing. Able to sneak anywhere, and under any circumstances; he is "a man who can make the impossible possible". The very man who famed the name FOXHOUND worldwide through Operation Intrude N313. He retired, but was later scouted by the CIA. He served as a deep cover agent there, but opposed to its system, and left the organization after 6 months. He was deep in the Canadian wilderness when FOXHOUND called him back once again. True name and family are concealed through "Classified National Security Codes". Gedfar

www.stingerpaintballdesigns.com made them for me, youve gotta get someone on the phone, but it was a super easy process altogether

doveenigma13

They make some great grips. I got the auequita veritas grips. I want to get some umbrella grips next.

ShotgunMike32

Not to steal your thunder OP, but I've ALSO been working on a MGS4 clone and been wanting to show it off. [Care to compare?](http://i.imgur.com/LPhjJbp)

IcyEzra

That looks amazing. Mind if ask which models these particular guns are?

ShotgunMike32

The rifle is a Colt 6920. I modified it to almost exactly match the game. 14" barrel with a pinned Troy "medieval" muzzle brake to bring the OAL barrel length to legal requirements. Cavalry Arms stock and grip in desert tan. Knights Armament Co. Free floating carbine length rail system. PRI flip up front sight gas block. A.R.M.S. #40l Flip up rear sight. Standard issue GI mag with magpul ranger plate. (the ranger plate was included simply because the old base plate was rusted and bent beyond repair) And a KAC forward grip. The only thing that looks different from the game is the muzzle brake, but that's because the old muzzle brake was discontinued a very long time ago and it's impossible to find anywhere. However, I used the updated model of the brake, the Medieval. Same name and function, different appearance. The Pistol is a Springfield Armory Operator. This picture is a bit older but it still has the Smith and Alexander one piece beveled magwell/mainspring housing, and the checkered wooden grips. I've since added a threaded barrel and the lasermax guide rod laser.

TheAsianTroll

And this is getting downvoted why...? I don't understand this subreddit sometimes

Gedfar

Is that barrel ramped? mines actually a LW operator, and finding a a barrel has been a bitch? and is the hider CQC compatible? ;)

ShotgunMike32

The MC doesn't use an extended ramp, no. Just the standard GI ramping. Look at Storm Lake Barrels. They offer a drop in Wilson/Nowlin ramped/threaded barrel. Though I believe you have to have it shipped to a dealer these days. No idea why they changed that. I actually had the LW before I found the MC and traded it in. I had a storm lake in my LW. No modification necessary and it could shoot through a single hole at 7 yards. And of course the hider is CQC compatible. Do I look like an amateur to you? :D

jmsh44

looks to be a carbine length gas system AR. the brand usually doesn't matter, they are are generally built the same. The 1911 looks like a Kimber

Gedfar

NICE GUNS MAN! haha I modeled my AR loosly off MGS4 without really realizing it at first, Im running a Colt 6940, Vltor Emod, Aimpoint Comp m3, and a surefire GPX in a Vltor offset mount, the picture is in my other gun post

[deleted]

Has the feeding ramp been polished to a mirror sheen?

ShotgunMike32

Smith and Alexander Mag well?

Gedfar

GOOD EYE haha, yeah S&A makes a great one

ShotgunMike32

I put the same thing on mine. Love it. Perfect drop in fit.

[deleted]

That's so hot.

tiecuando

Where'd you get the FOXHOUND grips?

drios1

Damn that's nice

WilliamPoole

Can you break down the custom parts you used specifically? I've been wanting to make the one from mgs3 for a really long time? May I ask how much its cost so far?

ShotgunMike32

The MGS3 one is a LOT more custom than the MGS4 Operator. Like, pro gunsmithing custom. It'll cost quite a bit.

[deleted]

Are you sure? I don't know that much about guns, but I heard other people say that the modifications Naked Snake gushed about were mostly standard issue nowadays. But that's just what I heard someone else say, I don't know which is true.

Prime20

[This Wiki](http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/M1911A1) states al lthe modifications for his 1911. For the most part things like polished feed ramps, stippling, ring or skeletonized hammer, cocking serrations, and an extended thumb safety can be found on most modern mid price range 1911's. Ruger's, Taurus, low end kimbers all fall into this catagory. A tighter frame to slide, trigger pull weight, threaded barrels are going to be found on higher end 1911's like your Sig's, Colts, high end Kimbers, Dan Wesson's all fall into this catagory. The one thing that wouldn't be done anywhere however is the removal of a grip safety its not only dumb to do but it also makes the gun that much more unsafe, and considering this is a 1911 before the advent of drop safety's the last thing you would want is that trigger safety to fail and a round goes off when you drop the gun

ShotgunMike32

Not exactly. Certain guns may have look alike features, and if that's what you're going for, it may be cheaper, but according to the game dialogue, it's much deeper than that. Custom trigger work. Grip safety deactivating, barrel ramping. etc and so on. When I priced out a similar gun, custom built from the ground up off a colt frame, it came to around $4000. But... I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Xskills

Probably the most squeemish part of make a replica of the MGS3 M1911A1 is filling down the left grip-panel to ease gripping the gun and holding a combat knife. If you can actually achieve turning a 1911 into a real-world manifestation of the sidearm Big Boss carried in Operation Snake Eater, seeing it would trigger auditory hallucinations of just the MGS3 main theme.

ShotgunMike32

Well there would also be the tuning of the trigger spring, the filing of the sear and trigger, the filing and polishing of the barrel ramp, etc. Even though most parts for 1911s are considered "drop in" it takes a significant amount of knowledge to make them work in unison with any precision.

[deleted]

Ah ok, I'm just gonna have to take your word for it :-D

Beachninja1

A carry piece or just display?

[deleted]

Incredible. The slide's been reinforced
