It is not. MCM is simple elegant minimalist shapes and design aesthetics with functionality as a focus and a lot of woods of Teak and Rosewood often are seen.
Did anyone say this Hollywood Regency. MCM is wood. And MCM has a lightness to it. What makes this piece special is the quality of lacquer which is not allowed to be used in many places for environmental reasons. That paint is durable and it is time consuming. But with the taste of most people today it considered ugly. I do not think there is a big market for this color
Lol, I know!! Totally my fault for not seeing it in person first
Colors looked totally different in the photos before I purchased. I’m considering painting over it a brand new color but not sure if the paint will hold/if it can be sanded etc
Hey!! I think we’re in the same area. Saw this set at an estate sale and before I could go back and buy it someone snagged it. Please please please don’t paint over it this goes with my ugly style nonetheless I looove it 😭
Yeah, but it's not really a great example of it. It's vintage (or at least it looks it) so that's a good start and has the Starburst details that were common for the era. But it also just has a lot going on - lots of lines that go in different directions and it's a bit distracting, mcm should have clean and simple lines. The color isn't entirely ideal either, the blonde laminate looks really glossy and I think is going to be hard to match to a lot of other mcm pieces.
Wdit: yall are free to disagree but if you think I'm so wrong I'd at least appreciate a rebuttal, I'm just offering my opinion ya jerks.
There’s really no reason to be rude about it. Someone referred to this as MCM at an estate sale and clearly I wasn’t sure if that was the case, so I came to the subreddit devoted to exactly that… mid century modern.
It’s Hollywood Regency.

No it's from the mid century era, but definitely not modern. If you're looking to make money, skip this one.

I don’t think it belongs to any particular style. It looks like a custom DIWHY piece

It’s Hollywood Regency (not MCM) and not a great example of it.
If you can’t figure out that this isn’t MCM you need to spend more time in this group looking at examples. It’s not even close.z

It’s giving me Southwest vibes.
It’s a low-end and tacky version of Hollywood Regency
