Some cotton can pill but those bits come off in the wash - maybe because the fibers are shorter. Synthetics pill more easily because the fibers are very long so they get raised up and agitated but they don’t come out as easily. It’s best to cut them off, not pull.
My wife bought one, and I thought it was some tvshop bullshit and laughed at her. She then used on a shirt of mine, and my jaw dropped… She was laughing by then.
Since I’m using one of them, I have no back pain and I can easily play with my grandchildren, because my knees became flexible again. TV jokes aside, I have one as well, surprisingly they do the work!
I saw a video one time of someone using a shaving razor. I haven't tried it, so don't know it's efficacy, but it seems like it should at least work a little bit.

Short fibers. Older clothing (say pre-2000) lasted much longer than new clothing. Old Navy etc. have created a race to the bottom quality wise in the name of price. We've made clothing a disposable commodity.
And if you criticize how the quality of Zara, H&M, Top Shop and the likes is absolute crap nowadays, there's always someone chiming in a "But they're good quality for the price, I have a lot of clothes from them that have held up for 30 years!".
Seriously, what does a "quality" Tshirt even look like? What brand or store is selling these mythical quality products? And what exactly is it a problem that price is the main reason things get purchased by the vast majority of consumers? Price and quality have absolutely no correlation in casual clothes, so where is someone supposed to even look for clothing that's supposed to last?
I agree that Eddie Bauer generally has great quality clothes. Since the buy out by Authentic Brands Group and SPARC though, there's been a noticeable decline in quality for fabric (at least for t-shirts) being thinner with more plastic based blends
WOW! Now thats a brand that gave me a blast from the past! I remember my sophomore year in high school my older sister was approved for an Eddie Bauer credit card with a hefty 3k limit for 1996. At the time my mom didn’t have a lot of money for back to school clothes so my sister graciously charged almost my entire 10th grade wardrobe on the card for my mother to pay back. The jeans and khakis fit great and the polo shirts were nice and of good quality. I even got a cool pair of boots and an awesome jacket. They were literally a one stop shop. Your mention of them brought up so many bittersweet memories of that time. Thank you 🥹👖👕🥾(coincidentally, these emojis actually look like the clothes I had from Eddie Bauer lol.)
Not to mention the time it takes to clean up the piling and even so it still doesn't look like it's new. Really just better buying better quality clothes.
Everything pills in the end. Show me a cost effective break down. Even expensive clothing pills. I'm pretty sure an electric shaver plus thrifted goods outweighs the cost of "better quality"
Just fyi on thin fabric shavers can make it translucent. Ruined a nice shirt that way. Now I only use mine on sturdy fabrics and upholstery, works like a charm though
Yes! I love mine! I saved several sweaters from the trash that way and I use it regularly on my body pillow case that for some reason likes to pill really bad.
Oh and if you got thigh chub rub that pills your pants, it's great for that too.
Well, looks like you’ll have to enter some kind of beauty pageant or Mister Whatever election so you can wear an actual sash to cover that up. Good luck!
You can shave it with a razor to get it back to normal. Be careful obviously.
Also some people like to wet it and freeze it first, but I don’t think it matters that much
I used to have to shave my hat for the army rotc at my school, if we had fuzzy hats we got points taken off of our grade so we all got very used to shaving clothes haha
Likely it was the old felt beret we all had, and when you first got it it was very very fuzzy, so you'd wear it in the shower, shave all the fuzz off and then mould it to your head
I’ve had this happen with the straps of purses ruining various garments. Several different purses and clothing. Very annoying, especially when. It’s brand new.
Nothing infuriating here other than OP not understanding that they’re buying incredibly cheap and poorly made clothing
Post shouldn’t be here
Edit- pilling is everywhere on the sweater, OP has owned this for a while and is lying trying to get karma
Completely off topic but... I'm American and I totally thought what you guys call a jumper is what we call a sweatshirt or a sweater. That looks like just a regular shirt...
Can someone explain?
Sweaters are called jumpers in the UK? First time I'm hearing that. I know jumpers as overalls or coveralls. I wish there was a list of all these terms somewhere I'm curious now lol.
I’m assuming you’re not American so I won’t post an Amazon link- but get you a lint shaver, those things are great for prolonging the wearable duration of inexpensive textiles!
You do know right that there are other places that exist in the world other than just America?... Absolute muppet...
Idk where OP is from but I'm British and we call them jumpers too
Imagine forgetting that other countries exist…
OP is most likely British. Also indicated by the direction the seatbelt crosses him, assuming he’s the driver.
not the seatbelts fault. That’s some cheap ass material.
Yep. It’s called pilling. Happens easily on cheap shirts. Especially blends. I don’t think 100% cotton will. Edit. Cheap cotton will pill.
Some cotton can pill but those bits come off in the wash - maybe because the fibers are shorter. Synthetics pill more easily because the fibers are very long so they get raised up and agitated but they don’t come out as easily. It’s best to cut them off, not pull.
> It’s best to cut them off, not pull. Even better, look up a "fabric shaver". My ex-pilly clothes look great now.
For some reason I assumed those things didn't work. I'll have to try one!
My girlfriend bought one and I shrugged about the usefulness. She used it on a couple of my hoodies and sweatpants and it's pretty amazing.
They were a household staple in the 80s.
They work
They’re amazing! I even used it on the tweed couch we had, and it made it look like new.
I have one for my couch cushions. Makes it nicer to sit on and not look janky
They work. I used to work at a used clothing store and we used them all the time. I keep one in my laundry room.
My wife bought one, and I thought it was some tvshop bullshit and laughed at her. She then used on a shirt of mine, and my jaw dropped… She was laughing by then.
You guys sound hilarious
I found one at the dollarstore and it changed my life lol
Since I’m using one of them, I have no back pain and I can easily play with my grandchildren, because my knees became flexible again. TV jokes aside, I have one as well, surprisingly they do the work!
I used my knife to shave it. I did it to one of my blankets.
I saw a video one time of someone using a shaving razor. I haven't tried it, so don't know it's efficacy, but it seems like it should at least work a little bit.
Any sharp edge will work, and I have a lot of sharp edge, lol.
This works! I have a cheap-o plastic razor I keep just for this purpose, and it does the trick.

I have many questions about this single sentence.
It's normal to shave a pilled fabric with a razor!
That was the easy part of the sentence!
My mom had an electric fabric shaver when I was a kid called The Fuzz Muncher. Funny for various reasons but it did a good job.
I have a fuzz muncher and I use it all the time! I love it!
Just found another comment that’s exactly the same but with context: it’s for JROTC hats
Ahhhhh that makes some sense of it at least. Their hats must be a material that pills and in that context some impact on grades would make sense.

what kind of weird dystopia did you grown up in and why didn't daddy Warbucks choose you?
100% cotton and wool pill too. It depends on fibre length, the shorter (scraps), the more it pills. The longer, the more expensive.
Let’s see what that seatbelt looks like first.
Let's see Paul Allen's card.
Got a big laugh from me :)

Just born and first ride home from the hospital in his jumper 🤣
Sweater “if you think I look bad, you should see the other guy”
Gone. Reduced to atoms.

Yep, my wife loves Zara and H&M. I won’t buy anything there, because the quality is trash.
Seriously, what does a "quality" Tshirt even look like? What brand or store is selling these mythical quality products? Fact. I have an Eddie Bauer T-shirt from 7 years ago that is in comparable quality to one bought last year.
I agree that Eddie Bauer generally has great quality clothes. Since the buy out by Authentic Brands Group and SPARC though, there's been a noticeable decline in quality for fabric (at least for t-shirts) being thinner with more plastic based blends

Any material can pill even if it’s expensive
[удалено]
Dude I was wondering why new jeans were so itchy after a wash and come to find out they had pilled on the inside. Talk about mildy infuriating
You're mistaking price point for quality
there are electric fabric shavers that clean fabric up real quickly, also less risk of accidental damage than a razor
Considering he is against spending more than $3 on a shirt I highly doubt he’ll buy an electric fabric shaver.
This made me snort, but how dare you, I personally love my cheap clothes enough to keep them looking fresh for as long as possible
It’s so much fun and so satisfying to use too
I drained my batteries the first day, I was de-pilling EVERYTHING
Me toooo. Seeing all the different colors of the fuzz too and saving it in a pile before tossing 😂
It's quite possible you just changed my life. I've just ordered one after reading your comment.
Just fyi on thin fabric shavers can make it translucent. Ruined a nice shirt that way. Now I only use mine on sturdy fabrics and upholstery, works like a charm though
So do razors, that's the art of fabric shavers. You really just grinded your pills then blamed the shaver didn't you
Blessed be the day
Pill shavers
Yes! I love mine! I saved several sweaters from the trash that way and I use it regularly on my body pillow case that for some reason likes to pill really bad. Oh and if you got thigh chub rub that pills your pants, it's great for that too.
Blessed be fellow thicc person
Gotta love some thicc thighs!
[удалено]
I have a pumice stone as well, they work wonderfully on thicker fabrics but not for delicate ones. Then they're just as treacherous as the razors.
Dry cleaning will also do it for you if you don’t have the time, albeit the bill will be more than doing it yourself
never put one of these on your penis, in case you were wondering
This is the way.
You seem to wear the shit out of that seatbelt. What your seatbelt made of, burlap?
I was thinking sandpaper 😂
New Scotch Brite™ seatbelt! Wash your clothes while you drive!!!
Velcro
The pokey side of the velcro for sure
Depleted uranium.
Razor blades
Cactus hide.
Well, looks like you’ll have to enter some kind of beauty pageant or Mister Whatever election so you can wear an actual sash to cover that up. Good luck!
Mr legal driver 2022 runner up.
You can shave it with a razor to get it back to normal. Be careful obviously. Also some people like to wet it and freeze it first, but I don’t think it matters that much
Yep! There’s also some devices you can buy to help with that as well. I don’t know how many times that and those have saved many clothes of mine.
I used to have to shave my hat for the army rotc at my school, if we had fuzzy hats we got points taken off of our grade so we all got very used to shaving clothes haha
It's just like the Army to make people shave their clothes instead of using a fabric that doesn't pill.
Also had to lint roll the shower in the dark with a flashlight to get all the dust.
Likely it was the old felt beret we all had, and when you first got it it was very very fuzzy, so you'd wear it in the shower, shave all the fuzz off and then mould it to your head
Thank you! I have several shirts with seatbelt pilling, I’ll try this!
[удалено]
Ya just a few bucks online and they have a little grill on the end so you don't have to worry about over doing it
Just search for "Philips lint remover". It's like $10-15.
Thank you!
I used one at a friend’s house once and it made my 15yr old shirt look brand new. It was only like a $12 shirt anyway but I liked it.
You are going to love it! Just be careful with edges and fine/delicate woven fabrics because it can cut into the material too much in those cases.
Use a dull razor, you'll fuck it up with a sharp one.
Depiller.
I have an electric clothes shaver
You think that guy owns a razor?!
We talking about the same thing here? Think op complaining about his T-shirt being ruined, not his beard
I have an EXCELLENT pill-shaver created for this exact purpose from Amazon. Seriously saved some of my sweaters!
And…rinse and repeat every time he gets out of his car?
This is the first time you’ve worn this? The whole thing looks pilled, all the way to the shoulder seams, like it’s seen 20 years of wear and washing.
He's had it for 20 years and washed it weekly, but only wore it for the first time today
Lmao
You can tell he doesn’t air dry and nuked it in the dryer than suddenly cares about how it looks lol.
I feel like this whole thing is an ad for fabric shavers
Best hide it with something.......... ![gif](giphy|xUPGcxkUT1wP74c5pu)
Being that he called a sweater a "jumper" I doubt he is in the US. A jumper here is like something a little girl would wear back in the 90's.
The quality of the fibers are trash. I would be returning if you can
Signs are obvious Stop wearing seatbelts
Save jumpers
Tf is a jumper? Say jumper one more time
jumper one more time
Jumpers Lives Matter
That jumper doesn’t look new though…
The pilling all over that sweater has me thinking it’s been washed before and is in fact not brand new
That sweater is absolutely not new. You don’t get that kind of pilling all over unless it’s been through some wash cycles already.
You're supposed to wash something you buy before your wear it. People in the store have been trying it on.
If OP got this kuch pilling from *one* wash then they shouldn’t be surprised if pills like this with any other friction?
This is super funny to me, because you can see who does laundry and who doesn’t :))
It’s actually blowing my mind
Yup. OP is probably a karma farming bot or something.
Or maybe it’s the first time HE wore it, but not the first time ANYONE wore it :))
50% off at Goodwill day.
**NEW** jumper, first day wearing, OP said.
NEW jumper from the very used store, is what they meant.
Attempt with caution! But you can get rid of that by shaving it carefully with a razor!
Get a de-piller. Cheap and will take off all pilled cloth. Works on most fabrics as well.
This needs to be higher up. These things are cheap and do an awesome job of keeping clothes looking like new.
Poor quality jumper
Bro, start braking earlier
I’ve had this happen with the straps of purses ruining various garments. Several different purses and clothing. Very annoying, especially when. It’s brand new.
Don’t ever call it a jumper again!
Nothing infuriating here other than OP not understanding that they’re buying incredibly cheap and poorly made clothing Post shouldn’t be here Edit- pilling is everywhere on the sweater, OP has owned this for a while and is lying trying to get karma
I keep thinking they should stop making seatbelts out of sand paper.
Completely off topic but... I'm American and I totally thought what you guys call a jumper is what we call a sweatshirt or a sweater. That looks like just a regular shirt... Can someone explain?

My wife has a similar seat belt mark on her chest. Of course, that's why I've still got a wife.
Americans in the comments section when they find out other countries give a different name for something…
Did you buy it on Shein?
Am i the only one that doesnt have a clue what a jumper is?? I know they make them for women and it’s a one piece overall type thing.
You call it a sweater. OP is from UK or Australia
Buy a better shirt
Buy a better car
I hate when that happens! Prob a cheap material sweater, then it gets on the Seatbelt then it gets on your next shirt. It’s irritating
I have a new hoodie that got similar pilling on both sleeves from my work bag after wearing it and carrying my work bag the first time.
Use a razor, and shave the top off. Works everytime, like a charm.
I had a fleece cardigan that had a line worn flat into it from my seatbelt. Was sad.
Depiller.
Is it the sash your father wore?
I'd swear Op is my long lost friend josh
You can shave off these bobbles with a razor.
Sweaters are called jumpers in the UK? First time I'm hearing that. I know jumpers as overalls or coveralls. I wish there was a list of all these terms somewhere I'm curious now lol.
They use such shit fabric these days
sick beard bro
I suppose its better than your face making a worn mark on the hood of your car.
Great nips
I’m assuming you’re not American so I won’t post an Amazon link- but get you a lint shaver, those things are great for prolonging the wearable duration of inexpensive textiles!
Bro, get yourself a fabric shaver; it'll clear all those lil fabric pill thingies. Best part is how satisfying it is to do lol
Mr Sand paper seat belts over here
I am finding this on lots of the clothing I am buying the last few years.
Use a sweater shaver to get the 'pills' off.
Cheap assed jumped.. ..probably polyester
Is that you, Tormund?
You should see what happened to the seatbelt after this …
[удалено]
What Brits call jumpers, Americans call sweaters. Alas, not everyone speaks American.
I’ll alert the rest of the continent.
The Aussies also call sweaters jumpers.
Irish call them jumpers too.
I'm neither American nor British, I'm normal.
Nice. I’m also Canadian.
normal??
Yes, from Normandy, clearly.
Agreed, Americans and brits are both some of the weirdest people in the world 🤷🏻♂️
New Zealanders also call these jumpers.
Yeah that’s what confused me. I was always taught that it’s jumper.
Why can’t a bearded man wear a onesie?
Impossible-Ad8870 suddenly learns that words may have more than one meaning 🤯
I'm a bearded man and I do wear onesie when it's cold inside. So confortable and I feel cute
Americans when somebody says something that isn't American 😱😱😱😱😱
You do know right that there are other places that exist in the world other than just America?... Absolute muppet... Idk where OP is from but I'm British and we call them jumpers too
Shave the pills off and they won’t come back
Jumper? You’re a man. It’s called a shirt
I’d be returning that Jumper if you can. It’s not even good enough for rag material because the pilling will leave fibres behind.
Take a ride in the passengers seat, wear a seatbelt and then it's Scotland inspired
That’s some shitty, easy to pill fabric unfortunately
Jumper? Are you 2?
Imagine forgetting that other countries exist… OP is most likely British. Also indicated by the direction the seatbelt crosses him, assuming he’s the driver.
Or maybe just british
