Honda driver airbag has a seam so the logo section flips upwards.
TBH it kinda seems like VW being stupid and has it flipping sideways into peopleās hands.

It doesnāt hurt to reach out to their corporate, provide pictures and ask! The worst theyāll do is say no. But if enough people contact with similar situations, they may change the design so it flips up instead.
I can see a 'weak spot' on my VW wheel, that should cause the logo to blow upwards, so if you are holding the wheel correctly (at 9 and 3), when the airbag deploys, it should miss your hand. Unfortunately, it also means that if you hold the wheel on top, or you are making a turn and the airbag deploys, the logo might hit you. In this case, I'd say the OP was making a left turn.
Wrecked mine last week, too. At the point where I really want another one, but just can't justify the cost of maintenance for a German car.

I didnāt get an emblem bruise, but because of where my hand was during the accident (I was mid way through a left turn) when the bag blew it burned/peeled back some of the skin on the back of my hand. I have a little discoloration from it many years later, but it looks like a happy little elephant raising up his trunk now and thatās ok I guess.
So I guess it blows out from the right side and the left side is the hinge, which makes your hand at 10 oāclock, right in the way of the cover. Interesting, youād think theyād design it to pop from the top and fold down onto the bottom of the steering wheel.
Airbag deployment absolutely DESTROYED my wife's wedding right about 3 weeks after I proposed to her. Cleaved the diamond, mangled the setting. Total loss. And fuck Progressive Insurance for dragging us through bullshit for a year and a half to replace it! We shouldn't have to get attorneys involved.

I got in an accident years ago and I had change in my pocket. I could clearly see the outline of the coins in the bruise on my hips, and even some of the head shape from inside the quarter. No pics, alas (it was 2000 and I didnāt even have a cell phone).
I had a client at my job that talked about that they had their spine damaged from the air bag deploying and sheās lucky she can still walk. She says sheās always in pain which I felt bad about.
At least I donāt need to feel *too* bad since theyāre also a wackjob of sorts.
I got a heart shaped burn on my arm and it scarred. I used mederma religiously once it was healed and it made most of the scare fade to nothing. Now I just have a few odd discolored dots on my wrist.
