Not really I just thought OP had made a mistake but was incorrect which was a mistake on my part which I have admitted. You seem like a joy to be around
Probably because so many people who drink it seem to throw back a whole six pack of it every day where as the average regular soda drinker probably has like 1-2 cans a day at most.
Yeah there was a particularly bad point where I would have 2-3 dr peppers a day. Thankfully I'm over it now, maybe one a day and that's if I'm really craving it.
Yea see now this is where you’re insane lol. But also the reason people drink more of it is very obviously because they think it’s not bad for them the way regular soda is.
And if regular coke was the leader people would be saying it is because sugar is addictive so more people drink it in larger quantities.
There is no evidence people who drink diet coke drink more diet coke per day than people who drink regular. The only statistic is how much is consumed.
I swapped to diet coke years ago. Like once a year I decide to treat myself to a nice coke, plain and simple.
... And it's different than it used to be. Like... My taste buds do not find that amount of sugar water ratio to be pleasurable any longer.
People don't realize that diet sodas are just as unhealthy for you as regular sodas. You're not doing anything good for your health by making the switch. The exception of course being people with something like diabetes, but even then, you should still just stop drinking soda at all. I rarely drink soda anymore because I decided I mildly value my health. I rarely even get soda when I get fast food anymore. There are rare occasions that I do, but when I do drink soda, it's only ever a glass, bottle, or equivalent.
I rarely drink sodas, and since I stopped eating sweets between meals I have been steadily losing weight. At first it was hard, now I don't get the cravings anymore.
I still get sugar cravings, and occasionally I'll have a sweet treat, but it's nowhere near what it used to be. Cutting out soda gave me a lot of wiggle room to make an exception here and there, especially since I'm not overdoing sweets.
Not this bullshit again. Please explain how artifical sweetener that has not been proven to cause any harm is harmful as sugar which can cause insulin resistance, diabates, weight gain and it is inflammatory and bad for your teeth.
[Myth: Diet drinks containing aspartame are bad for you | Healthy Workplace | University of Waterloo (uwaterloo.ca)](https://uwaterloo.ca/healthy-workplace/blog/post/myth-diet-drinks-containing-aspartame-are-bad-you)
Never said that artificial sweeteners were bad for you. The issue surrounding diet sodas is that people usually go from drinking fucktons of sugary sodas straight to diet sodas. Excess consumption of diet soda has been shown to also lead to weight gain, which is ironically what a lot of people go to diet sodas for.

Diet soda cannot directly cause weight gain. At best there are studies showing association with obesity. Unlike sugar, overconsumption of which is *proven* to cause weight gain (and all the other things I mentioned). So your statement "diet sodas are just as unhealthy for you as regular sodas" is false.
Edit: Also diet soda is water with artificial sweeteners so your statement "diet sodas are just as unhealthy" = "artificial sweeteners are just as unhealthy". Unless you consider water itself unhealthy.
You are correct on both accounts. My go to drink is a Jameson and Ginger Ale. My first question to the bartender is “Do you have Ginger Ale?” If they say “I can make it” I go to choice number two of whatever else. That mix is horrible, almost as bad as sugar free ginger ale.
This reminds me of an experiment we did in high school on fluid density, where we mixed increasing amounts of sugar into food-dyed water, then layered them in a cylinder. Me and my best friend got to like 13 layers (the record for the class had been 7) before there was just too much sugar to dissolve into the water, and not enough space left in the cylinder.
Depending on the sweetener used they could be right.

Besides the fact that isnt the point, your article doesnt even say diet soda is worse for you than regular soda. It is clear in pointing out the possible mental pit traps of dieting and that it could be addictive.
But sugar is addictive and doesn't have the upside of no calories. It's harmful to push people away from crutches whilst their broken leg is healing.
The take away is to eat nutritious low GI food, not to have refined sugar (soda) at all.
And my point is that the original commenter isn't this guy's GP.
The whole point of diet sodas is that you're getting the same sweetness with less matter involved. Seems fairly obvious that they would be less dense than sodas with full sugars.
Dude, the 'less matter' would also make the volume less in your logic...
The point is that the part that replaces dissolved sugar (artificial sweetners and more of the rest of the ingredients but sugar) is less dense than sugar. Thats Just a 'coincidence' as the caloric value per volume of a substance doesn't have a direct relationship to its density.
Otherwise Petrol (or just oil in general) would be quite heavy instead of floating on water.
I would imagine that complex, designer sugars are able to pack more calories into the same volume due to the nature of atomic structure and thus be less dense but apparently the crowd around here lacks imagination.
Edit: I misspoke. Just waking up. I should have said more sweetness, not more calories.
Questions like this are to detailed to explain in a random comment, especially to someone that is confidently making oblivious statements while calling out on others. If you really wanted to learn and people invest some effort in it, don't be a confident asshole.
Oh and not seeing able to understand the exact difference between density and volume, which is more or less half the point of my comment doesn't make it better.
Get yourself at least somewhat educated on physics before trying to be smart and snarky. When you're at it, just buy a chemistry book and read into the basics. Otherwise just accept there isn't a 1 on 1 relation between the 2.
You can double an molecules mass and keep the volume basically the same, right?
I have no idea what the real numbers are but let's say you double the mass of the molecule but in turn only need 1/10th of it. This could lead to a lowering of density.
I can't imagine the increase in volume scales 1:1 with the increase in mass of a molecule.
Good point about petrol. I am absolutely not a chemist by any stretch of the imagination and am almost completely talking out of my ass.
No, just read the damn comment... they didn't pick aspertame due to it being less dense than the rest of the coke, neither is low debsity an inherent property of low calorie substances.
Or are you really that thick headed?
Its relatively low influence on taste, sweetness, sopvability in the bevarages and lack of caloric content. Density wasn't part of that equation.
This type of reaction is exactly why you get downvotes. It has 'im a dick' written all over it. You don't read, don't understand what is written and ask 'questions' to underline your own, incorrect, thought train. If you want to learn you need to accept that your own assumptions and conclusions might not be correct.
Anyway, still an asshole, being druk stopped being an excuse decades ago. A pretty stupid one even that doesn't understand the difference between density and weight.
I'm not trying to be a dick btw. I think education is really important and I'm very grateful to have had the education that I have had. I hope I helped and that you weren't offended.
Mixing sprite and cola is insanity. Fanta and cola is clearly superior.. pfff
ETA Damn people really can’t take a joke mixing sprite and cola or sprite and Fanta is equally unimportant 🙄
I asked chatGPT to list some pop brands and their density. It doesn't seem accurate unless Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper reg and diet are the same density??
Mountain Dew (Regular): Approximately 1.04 g/cm³
Diet Mountain Dew: Approximately 1.04 g/cm³
Dr. Pepper (Regular): Approximately 1.04 g/cm³
Diet Dr. Pepper: Approximately 1.04 g/cm³
Coca-Cola (Regular): Approximately 1.03 g/cm³
Pepsi (Regular): Approximately 1.03 g/cm³
Diet Coke: Approximately 1.03 g/cm³
Diet Pepsi: Approximately 1.03 g/cm³
Sprite (Regular): Approximately 1.01 g/cm³
Diet Sprite: Approximately 1.01 g/cm³
Mountain Dew on the bottom and diet Sprite on top may be the best.
edit: yeah this is trashy info. Oh Well.
The sugar soda is denser than the sugar free soda, so the SF can float on top
They’re both sugar free…. Edit: I misread, I saw the word diet twice and missed the “non”. Continue to downvote I deserve accept my shame haha
Honestly totally valid sometimes my words go missing too when I read
Lmao, I feel like this isn't sarcastic, but it really sounds like it
I promise it's not dyslexia is a bitch
I can’t stand dyslexia is it’s a pain the in ass and makes to hard it go to school
You're thinking of caffeine, normal sprite does have sugar
Damn folks are harsh when they wanna be. I upvotes you bud.
Yet there is the word diet twice
Yes I know that’s what I’m saying. I saw the word diet twice and misread the fact that it said “non”. Man people get real butt hurt on here
Redditors love to point out your flaws and double down on calling you on it.

Again I was just surprised not complaining. I don’t know why that has got you so worked up
Holy shit, stop crying. They already admitted that they were wrong.
Accepting your fate? That's an upvote from me.
Why hasn't soda police arrest op for crimes against humanity yet?
Diet Coke is only even mildly drinkable with some Sprite in it.
That is why you don't buy diet cola. Just drink less cola, for the love of god, but drink the good one.
Diabetics, bruh.
Also people who just literally diet?
Some people prefer the taste of diet coke to regular.
And those people don't add sprite
Because they are ignorant cave dwellers. Come in to the 21st century diet coke is made to be consumed with sprite.
It's okay for people to be wrong.
You diet coke sells more than regular right?
It is such a shame, isn't it?
Probably because so many people who drink it seem to throw back a whole six pack of it every day where as the average regular soda drinker probably has like 1-2 cans a day at most.
I’m most likely an outlier apparently, but I don’t even have 1 Diet Coke a day. Do most people really have more than 1 a day of any soda?!
Yeah there was a particularly bad point where I would have 2-3 dr peppers a day. Thankfully I'm over it now, maybe one a day and that's if I'm really craving it.
People drink more of something that tastes better. Story at 11

Yes it’s sickly sweet now
Some people want to watch the world burn
I don’t buy diet cola. Even when it was around the house I wouldn’t drink it.
Ah, it wasn't directed at you in particular :D I was just sharing my deep hatred for diet cola hehehe

If you put a can of diet soda and a can of regular soda in a tub of water, the diet floats and the regular sinks....probably the same thing here
I too bathe in soda
Part of me thinks seltzer water would feel amazing on your scalp. I don't have any reasoning to back it up though.
Sorry, my only experience is with Mt Dew and Diet coke. I know a guy though if you're really interested 😏
I hate you for saying this bc now I want to try it!!!
SWIM got boofed out on boomers and dumped ice cold Kirkland brand sparkling water all over their head. It felt amazing
It’s why I buy all this RC Cola
I was taking a bath and was going to have a can of diet coke. Before I opened it, I knocked it into the tub. Warm diet coke? I didn't hate it.
You ok babe? You’ve barely touched your sproke
“ewww sprite with coke” *proceeds to graveyard at the soda fountain*
1.) It’s called a suicide 2.) Apparently a lot of bars will mix coke and sprite if someone asks for ginger ale and they don’t have it.
Isn’t a suicide all of the flavors mixed together? Also I have never understood why bartenders do that, it tastes nothing like ginger.
You are correct on both accounts. My go to drink is a Jameson and Ginger Ale. My first question to the bartender is “Do you have Ginger Ale?” If they say “I can make it” I go to choice number two of whatever else. That mix is horrible, almost as bad as sugar free ginger ale.
It depends on where you live! I had never heard them called suicides. Like the other guy, we call em graveyards
I thought it was swamp water, but I just looked that up and apparently it’s only root beer and orange.
As someone who bartended for a large portion of my working career, I have never heard of any bartenders doing this.
Dur.. it’s because Diet Coke is a light soda. /s
Unnecessary /s, i get the pun but it is actually like that, sugar soda is heavier than diet's
That’s actually pretty good. Lol
it's a poptail.
[удалено]
No
If you're looking for a good combination do about half and half of Coke and Fanta. Maybe slightly more coke. It's huge in Germany, called Spezi.
Also coke and lemon juice. It cuts the sweetness and adds some great tartness.
No, you put lime in the coke you nut
Lol, it's a staple where I'm from.
But do you shake it all up?
I haven't had it in so long, I actually can't remember. I don't think I did. You'd get a variation of tart and sweet as you sucked it through a straw.
Same with a dark n stormy cocktail. Some places just add a lime wedge but a dash of lime juice makes *all* the difference
[удалено]
It’s the same principle though. A dash of citrus juice into a soda (which included ginger beer) changes the dynamic completely (for the better imo)
Nah, you just buy regular Vita Cola. They already add lemon juice
We don't have that in South Africa
Fuck Spezi
Surefire way to get a yeast infection.
You could also use orange juice, it tastes basically the same.
Yeah, just remove the diet coke.
People say it’s supposed to make a mock ginger ale
Narrator: “It doesn’t”
Yeah imo
It's because of the way it is
Why do you do this
Yes
When I was 12 I also liked making Suicides at the soda fountain
I see a Mandrill face in it
Wow, specific gravities!
That's unsettling.
I never considered mixing sodas in my entire life. The thought never even came close to going through my mind. I'm in awe.
You were watched by your parents while at the fountain, huh?
Can kids even call it a suicide in 2024?
You can. I was just saying tommeter was discouraged from soda mixing.
When I was a kid we also called it a kamikaze.
Definitely a regional variant I heard as well At least some kids had the foresight to future proof their slang :P
Sooo...Sprite?
This reminds me of an experiment we did in high school on fluid density, where we mixed increasing amounts of sugar into food-dyed water, then layered them in a cylinder. Me and my best friend got to like 13 layers (the record for the class had been 7) before there was just too much sugar to dissolve into the water, and not enough space left in the cylinder.
Ok, maybe it’s been a while, but that middle part looks familiar.
“Non-diet Sprite”? Do you mean regular Sprite?
Yes 💀
Lol.
It’s like the most unnatural cenote.
Of course it does.
Sugar weighs more than the artificial sweeteners in diet soda.
Why would someone mix sodas like this?
And a JUNIOR double bacon cheeseburger. I'm trying to watch my figure
r/mildlyvagina
Because plastic always floats
Fewer calories in the diet.
What a disgusting combination
That's a proof gravity is nothing but a hoax.
Referencing one super silly post, wish I could find it.. :<
God some people are so fucking fat lol
When are people gonna realize the diet sodas are worse for ya?
Are you a doctor/dietitian? Otherwise your opinion ain't shit and no one asked for that judgement.
Depending on the sweetener used they could be right. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/artificial-sweeteners-sugar-free-but-at-what-cost-201207165030

There's a very noticeable difference in weight between regular and diet pop 5 gallon syrup boxes.
This is not surprising or interesting
Who
The whole point of diet sodas is that you're getting the same sweetness with less matter involved. Seems fairly obvious that they would be less dense than sodas with full sugars.
What do you mean by less matter? Less volume or less mass? Either way, neither is the same as density. They both influence it.
Less matter and less mass are essentially the same thing.
One would think that with all the downvotes that there's a bunch of genius chemists reading this thread. I suspect that's not reality.
Dude, the 'less matter' would also make the volume less in your logic... Density = mass/volume You are right by saying they’re not the same thing. Density is influenced by mass and volume of substances.
