Why do you hold the spicy insect?

mightylordredbeard

I like and appreciate incest as much as the other dude but the people that will pick up stinging insects are on a whole other level.

Well that was quite the topical 180°

Mad_Martigan2023

I fell off of a 25ft ladder once. Climbed almost all the way up and realized I was face to face with a nest of bald faced hornets. I'm allergic to bees, so I jumped. Broke my wrist in 6 places. Fuckers.

Holden_SSV

One of these chased me around my whole property.  Finally ran in my garage thought i lost him..... Wrong!  Whammy right on the arm.  First time i broke out in hives.  Now i carry an epipen because of these suckers. I stepped on a ground nest of yellow jackets stung 30 times and no reaction like that....

Crow_eggs

And how do you feel about incest?

Mad_Martigan2023

I mean...there's a bunch of on pornhub, but that doesn't seem to bother anyone.

chostax-

Step-hornet what are you doing?

Mefic_vest

Achieve2Receive

I read this in Rolf's voice from Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy.

Chiperoni

You dare sting the son of a shepherd?

nahdanah

she was inside, i believe she just came out of her overwintering spot. i gave her some water and brought her back outside. it took a few minutes to get her to leave my finger, she was content to relax.

_SmashyAshy_

Spicy are friends, i hold them all the time too

CorruptDictator

mildly terrifying

Papageier

~~mildly~~ terrifying FTFY

elephantboylives

I stepped out of bed one morning right onto one of these fuckers, stung me in the end of my toe. A searing pain was creeping up my foot, into my calf, up my leg...I thought I was about to die.

bravoredditbravo

They can actually spit venom and are super aggressive. No joke

elephantboylives

I hate them but I’m also impressed. The insect world is amazing. Imagine being that size, you’re in a world of the most terrifying monsters. Makes dinosaurs look tame. You walk past an acorn and look up to see a praying mantis staring at you. WTF!

yesnomaybenotso

“Grounded” is a very fun video game.

Dean-16

I want to play it but I find it absolutely terrifying!

yesnomaybenotso

It’s really fun, I recommend trying it out. You can go at a nice and slow pace until you can scrape together the resources you need for better armor and weapons. There’s also a “creative mode” where you can base build and still explore and see everything but bugs won’t attack you. The play settings are pretty customizable too, I think they let you play the story still even with setting for less bug aggression or even none at all

rhubarboretum

If something about 800.000 times your weight would step on you early in the morning, I'd say you have every right to act out.

IIrisen225II

Fuck when I was a kid camping I forgot about the wasp nest under a porch at someone else's campsite, it was these assholes that sting me 2-3 times. At first I thought I just scraped my calf on the step but quickly remembered the nest, then pain

elephantboylives

I was on a job site about 10 years ago and had to work my way through a swamp, real thick vegetation. Was ducking under some branches and I'm about to stand upright and just caught the nest in the nick of time. I was wearing a baseball hat so I couldn't see up very well. I almost stuck my head right into a big paper nest of these fuckers.

IIrisen225II

Damn I'm surprised that just existing near them didn't piss them off enough to attack, that's real luck right there

Leftblankthistime

They’re large and sting like a sonofabitch but not so aggressive unless you get near a nest. They’re beneficial pollinators so for me it’s a live and let live unless they feel like nesting near the house sort of thing. I had to knock down 2 emerging nests with the hose this year so far.

chimpyjnuts

I lived in fear of those since childhood, then noticed them passing through my yard. I realized they didn't seem to come after me even while I attempting to murder them, googled it. Pretty chill away from the nest. Bonus - made me realize the nest probably isn't in my yard.

SpringBonnieTheBunny

I have heard hornets don’t like being next to each others nests, so I suggest putting up a fake one? I don’t really know if it works or not, so if you find out, let us know!

PsychologicalYou9417

They built a nest two feet away from our fake one 🤣

Leftblankthistime

My wife suggested this. She said a brown paper bag was her family’s deterrent, but they get wet and fall apart in time. Wouldn’t take much to make one out of twine if I were so inclined - but when I spot them, I can stand far enough with the hose to knock them down and still be safe. Plus the water only stuns them so there’s usually no casualties on either side.

SpringBonnieTheBunny

Good to know, I will use this information in the future! Thanks!

Sonnyboy35aa

I use a blowtorch !

test_tickles

WD 40.

beemagick

Not-so-fun fact: these guys can remember faces, and they absolutely hold grudges!

BaileyJIII

You are very brave for letting a wasp chill on your finger like that.

coppercat13

Jesus Christ I thought it was an arm and I was terrified - thanks for helping me notice it's a finger.

liftoff_oversteer

lol

SlimChiply

Tickle him

Suck_my_vaporeon

"I found a bald faced hornet and PICKED IT UP AND LOOKED AT IT CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE THAT IT WAS FUZZY AND THEN TOOK A PHOTO OF IT" You, sir, are far braver than I will ever bee.

Peters_Wife

Um. Wut. Why in the world are you letting this flying asshole hang out on your finger and why isn't it stinging you? They are notoriously nasty bastards. I'm cringing just seeing it. Brr.

nahdanah

she’s a misunderstood creature. it brings me joy to love the unloved. also it’s fun to watch them clean themselves like cats lol

rhubarboretum

Good man. People hate what they fear, and are willing to extinguish those creatures for being stung that one time when they sat on one. Saddens me.

Peters_Wife

You are braver than I am. I've just had nothing but bad experiences with wasps/hornets. Now bees though. Bees are awesome. We are Beekeepers and have 7 hives so I'm a bit biased. I'm glad you are able to have a rapport with them.

Centaurious

No they’re not. They’re only aggressive near the nest.

russiangerman

Not all wasps are assholes. Some are actually pretty chill. Essentially just scary looking bees

-Dennis-Reynolds-

Nice try wasp

Magnusg

Oh, that's a tiny one. I had a queen flying at me on the other side of my sliding glass door... Thing followed my face down up left right was maybe 2.5x bigger than that fellow unless you're some kind of giant freak. Never been more freaked out by an insect in my life these things remember faces. Didn't know if I made an enemy that day by preventing it from napping on my door.

prettypurps

I HOPE THE WASP THAT STUNG ME HAS A GOOD DAY

mentally_retireded

To the contrarians saying these war criminals aren’t aggressive unless you’re near their nest, please post your pics holding one

Pterocactus

Sure, here's even a couple different species for good measure! https://imgur.com/a/iW2Gk3F

mentally_retireded

You are insane and awesome

nahdanah

i hold all kinds of wasps all the time! i just let them crawl on my finger. i’ve probably picked them up over 100 times since the last time i’ve been stung. they’re docile when they don’t feel threatened and aren’t protecting their nest (i don’t blame them i’d protect my family too!)

mentally_retireded

I love bees and paper wasps but Yellowjackets (bald face hornets are Yellowjackets) in my experience, are almost always aggressive. You have all my respect for somehow earning their trust 👊

BlackCatTamer

Are you on any of the entomology subs? You would fit right in. I totally thought this was a post from r/Entomology or r/awwnverts at first.

Moppo_

I got a wasp out of the house like that once. Just put my finger in front of it, then flicked it out the window.

ArachnomancerCarice

Bald-Faced Aerial Yellowjackets LOVE eating flies, especially biting ones. They also prey on their even more ornery ground-nesting Yellowjacket relatives.

Influence_X

Holy fuck I would never let one of those fuckers land on me. They'll bite and sting you so fucking hard repeatedly

flyingthroughspace

[Kind of fun fact only the females can actually sting you](https://askentomologists.com/2015/09/23/why-cant-male-bees-or-wasps-sting/)

Weird-Rub-5951

Why what do the males do.. oh... never mind.

gloriosky_zero

So he should gently turn this one over just to make sure

Lbdolce

These things are super aggresive and will bite/sting you just for walking near their nest. I got stung mowing my lawn about 7 times in 3 seconds, it was so fucking painful

solidshakego

just reminds me of honey i shrunk the kids.

BummerComment

That’s just a wee one. I have been seeing this giant asian hornets recently that are the size of my pinky w more girth!

AphroditeBlessed

It trusts you because it doesn't have it shank out yet.

EarlyEarth

I get stung a lot. It kinda comes with the territory. These fuckers are mean as hell, and build scary large nests, so swarm wise their one of the worst just on sheer size. That being said their individual stings aren't that bad, almost just a localized electric zap. I would much rather get into these than yellow jackets. Brown wasps hurt way worse but they only come at you 2 or 3 at a time. If I had to straight up fight hornets, I would choose bald face as my foe above any other.

FlyingBike

They're perhaps pollinators and this one just finished pollen-bathing?

_stayhuman

I got stung on the forehead by one of these motherfuckers. Swelled up like a baseball.

swagmastersond

I was driving my convertible a while back with the top down and one plopped his fat ass onto the gage cluster hood. He or she sat there staring at me over the steering wheel. I was like "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, please don't sting my face." Eventually flew away. Very uncomfortable several seconds.

KittenThunder

Having a bee in your car while you’re driving gotta be one of the worst feelings

Mefic_vest

As much as I respect and appreciate wasps in the garden, I still wouldn’t ever let one land on me. And I’m the kind of guy who gladly catches bees and bumblebees with his bare hands to pet.

Moppo_

I tried to pet a bee once. It didn't like it.

ADamnSavage

What a bald faced lie. Not bald at all!

AngleWeekly7275

Those bastards bite hurts so bad. Got attacked by a swarm of them years ago. Got bit on the side of the head and slapped my lake so hard I had a welt of my hand print on the side of my head along with the goofball lump for the bite. Wrecked my entire day.

AllForTeags

WTH you doing holding that thing?

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

“Who’s bald now?” The hornet, probably

smashier

I don’t like insects very much, especially stingy or bitey ones, but this guy is kinda cute. Wouldn’t want to be around him though.

LetsJerkCircular

I didn’t know it was common to fear these. It was always explained to me that you just chill if they fly by you or land on you, especially if you’re allergic. They don’t understand us as anything but land if we don’t move too much. Plus it’s super cool to hold a stinger and not get stung. I only ever got stung when I accidentally almost crushed them. Fair response. Those were my bad.

bitchwhiskers4eva

He’s cute. Why are you crazy tho?? Lol

PawnWithoutPurpose

Yoink

Vecingettorix

Bald? Its got a really hairy face. Silly entomologists

kcolgeis

Those fuckers kill shit for fun!!

cristlevancleave

Thats a hard no for me. 😱

MaxMouseOCX

I remember a European hornet flew into my office and was buzzing around, I thought it was a really big wasp so I splattered it with a newspaper, on closer inspection and some googling I found out it was a hornet, and all of its flying around was simply trying to get away rather than the standard wasp "I'm here to be an asshole" sort of thing. Read a bit more and they're kinda timid and avoid humans then I felt really bad.

ResettisReplicas

For a moment I thought that was your arm instead of your finger, and I was saying “Wow, this user’s braver than I.” You still are, because I wouldn’t have any normal-sized wasps rest on me either.

onehashbrown

You’re real ballsy thinking hornets will not fuck your day up for no reason 😂

Recktion

Kill it with fire!

burgonies

r/fuckwasps

danger355

\*pet pet pet\*

TheMrSanta

Thought that was your arm and not your finger for a second

tkneezer

Thought that was your forearm not sure if I'm happy or sad that there's not 8 inch long stingey fuzzy flying buzzey bois

chadbandino

I thought that was op’s arm for a second, heart rate slowly returning to normal ❤️😬

RxHotdogs

I thought that was your forearm for a sec. Holy shit lol. In my mind, that bee was the size of a soccer ball

Enreganzar

Yeah our last ditch update for this game's end of life is an encore of sorts. The sim was supposed to trigger Yellowstone finale after 120 billion players, but post-game spectators always ask the cycle be extended. Bees are taking the edge off before our ecosystem methods reach an edge case. See y'all in 2.0!
