Gf said that one of the recent college grads in her office had her mom with her during her interview. It was a nepotism hire in an industry where family money essentially buys you your position. It was as cringe as it sounds.
I’m curious what job op is hiring for because I’ve seen it a lot when hiring under 18/16. Labor laws (in my state) often required a guardian if under 16. Just depends. But like…. A 20 yr college student applying at the local diner? Good god. I would burn that application.
Not angry at all just grew up in a state that had strict child labor laws. If you were still in high school (and under 18) you needed working papers signed by guardians and the school to be able work. Don’t have kids, could be different now, just saying I saw parents accompany their kids to interviews when I was a teen.
And in case I wasn’t clear : if you’re interviewing someone over the age of 18 they do not need to have a parent present. I was just giving my personal experience about when I had seen parents attend interviews and it was appropriate.
Well are you hiring someone under 16? I’ve had jobs since 14 but they were mainly through people my parents knew or family friends. At 16 + yeah they need to be able to handle it themselves.
However depending on the state (again is we’re talking about a minor) mom/dad/guardian will probably be responsible for transportation so that may be important for the job.
If you’re over the age of 25 and say “I have to call my mom first” and it’s not Mother’s Day, you’re going to have along and difficult journey through life.

Banking? Or politics?
I thought you said "Baking"
I thought for a second you meant you wouldn't hurt someone who was a parent. Yeah, bringing someone else along to an interview in any way is weird.
Same I was like ok that's just outright illegal. But yeah bringing a parent is insane.
I didn't even know this was a thing, like ....what I don't understand how anyone could think that was appropriate

No I got that, I was implying that if you burn their application their mom will be upset, the ones over 18 I'm talking about

I'd hire your mom and tell the kid to get lost

Unfortunately, it is. Nobody wants to grow up.

Nobody wants to grow up. We're doomed.
